Grovyle Intermediate Trainer Battle: Stark vs. psychopath

Today the location of our intermediate trainer battle is the courtyard of the wonderful and majestic King's Castle in Kumo City. The location itself is nestled high up in the clouds but not too high otherwise I'd be out of breath right now. Beautiful foliage lines the four walls of the courtyard and in the centre is an ornate fountain in the shape of the draconic pokémon, Kingdra. If our trainers today happen to cause any damage, the guards wont be too happy, but I'm sure they wont. Todays combatants enter the gates together before resuming their places at either end of the courtyard.

Stark vs. psychopath
1 vs. 1
Single Battle
Intermediate Tier - Lv. 50 Pokemon agreed on.
Arena: Kumo City's King's Castle- The courtyard of this majestic castle floating in the clouds is approximately 50m x 50m wide. Rose bushes and thorny hedges line the walls of the courtyard while at the very centre stands a Kingdra fountain. It is forbidden to damage the castle or its grounds in any way, so if you do the guards Arcanine will be quick to intervene.

Now, to flip the super-duper Pokétch Magikarp coin to see who goes first... (Stark is heads, psychopath is tails)
...and it's heads, Stark will be first for this match!

Though I know I don't really need to remind you but here are the rules, better to be safe than sorry.

Now, the order will go as follows;
- Both trainers will PM their Pokemon's stats, healing items, and first round moves to me.
- I will ref the first round accordingly.
- Stark will then order his attacks for the next round.
- psychopath will then go on to order his attacks for the round also.
- I will ref and then the order will alternate.
- Rinse, repeat!

That's everything, I guess. Though it's not needed, adding a little roleplaying to your posts is always more fun than simply ordering your attacks. Good luck to both of you and away we goooo!

Pokémon Info: Buizel was found on the mysterious island of Excelsior when Stark came upon him bullying a group of fish by using them for target practice. When Stark tried to warn him about the dangers of picking on those weaker than him, Buizel retaliated by spraying Stark with a Water Gun in the face. Not one to back down, Stark and Spearow proceeded to battle Buizel and eventually capture him. Buizel has now become a valuable and much needed member of the team. More Coming Soon™

Stark stood in the courtyard. His long blond hair and long red coat gently flowing in the light breeze. His green eyes almost glistening as he prepared himself for what was about to come. It had been a long time since he had been in a battle. And an even longer time since he had battled another trainer. Still, an air of excitement swelled up inside him, giving him an energy and anticipation he hadn't felt in a long time. Across the courtyard was his opponent. One he'd never met before, but had heard a few things about during his travels. If the rumors were to be believed he was going to have one heck of a battle on his hands. A slight half smile curled Stark's lips as he nodded to the other trainer while reaching down to his belt to remove the small red and white orb that hang there. Reaching back, he tossed the ball onto the field in front of him while a glow of brilliant white light lit up the field only to reveal a brown and white furry sea otter.

"Floatzel," the sea otter called out excitedly. Stark smiled.

"Alright pal, I know we haven't done this in a while, but I have all the confidence in the world that our training is going to pay off," Stark said to his partner, "So take a look around at your surroundings while you can and get a feel for the area. There is a fountain over there that maybe we will be able to use to our advantage somehow, but for starters, we'll try not to outsmart ourselves. Ready?"

"Floatzel," the pokemon gruffly replied while nodding his head and leaning forward almost as if he were waiting for the green flag to drop in a race.

"Let's do it," Stark said with a low intensity in his voice, "Floatzel use Rain Dance to get yourself a better playing field. Then use Aqua Jet to get in close and hopefully catch them off guard."

Tyson entered the field with surprising joy in his expression. He felt that he was due for a win considering he'd lost before, 3 times. He looked at the other end of the field where he could see a person that he knew as 'Stark'. He looked across the field and nodded, they had agreed to fight here before. He tossed a ball in the air, out of which materialized a white Weavile with a blue crown on its head. "Look Freeze, I dont want you to take it easy, give it all you got. Begin with a Taunt to get it in close, then Punch it with Ice."
Freeze nodded, and prepared to attak.
As the pokémon are released and they begin to process their initial commands, the battle commences. Right away, Floatzel holds his paws into the air and as he does the clouds above the battle field seem to part as a light drizzle begins to cover the battlefield. Once the attack begins, Freeze begins to taunt his opponent, pointing and laughing as he does so, this angers the Floatzel quite a bit as it begins to ready itself for the next attack.

Running forward, his speed boosted by the falling rain, Floatzel forms a jet of water at his feed, propelling him at an even greater speed at the Weavile. Unable to avoid the sheer speed of the attack, Freeze is hit for a moderate amount of damage. However, as the pokémon was approaching the Weavile, he was cooling the air around his claws, creating tiny crystals of ice and, as the pokémon make contact, he swings both claws into the Floatzel, causing the pokémon to cry out.

After this round, both pokémon have taken a small amount of damage and have plenty of energy left. The rain begins to intensify further, moving from a mere drizzle to some what torrential rain.

Stark's teeth gritted tightly. He never liked watching his pokemon take damage. Even if the damage was negligible. He understood that it was all a part of battle, but even so, he found himself wanting to rush out to protect Floatzel. For all the good it would do. Floatzel could probably take a lot more than the trainer could in a scuffle. Of course, that didn't mean he still didn't want to do it.

The white Weevil's taunt had done more than just provoke Floatzel. It had driven Stark to want to knock the unique pokemon down a peg or two himself. The nerve of the creature to laugh at them. Granted it was merely a strategy and Stark couldn't say that he wouldn't have led off the same way if the trainer's roles had been reversed. It was a smart tactic. Still he didn't have to like it.

Clenching his hands together in fists, Stark quickly lashed his right arm out pointing at the weevil and shouted to his partner, "Now Floatzel! While you're close! Rock Smash to knock it back away from you, then hit it with a Water Pulse!"

Tyson looked at the clouds. He could use the pouring rain to his advantage. He heard the opposing trainer's commands and made a strategy that could accomodate for the speed of his opponent and the advantages of rain. "Freeze, buckle down and prepare for it's attack, then counter it with a Blizzard! Since it's raining you can just freeze it, and won't spend all the energy it would normally take to bring the water! Then match the speed of the water pulse with a Pursuit. Be weary of the Brick Break, its effective against you." The Weavile nodded, as it prepared to attack, not sure how he would fare this round

Both pokémon, still close to one another, begin the second round of attacks right away. Floatzel begins by slashing at Freeze with a single arm, smashing him away in the opposite direction. However, as the attack does little damage, the Weavile has the perfect chance to attack right away. Using the rain to his advantage, Freeze cools the falling rain and uses it's power to direct the now-frozen rain directly at Floatzel, causing moderate damage.

As the blizzard finishes and the rain returns to normal, the water pokémon forms a regal blue sphere with his paws before throwing it in the direction of the Weavile. However, Freeze begins to move at the right opportunity, using pursuit which covers it in a strange dark veil. However much the Floatzel attempts to dodge the oncoming Weavile, it chases it down, speeding up as it does so before eventually feeling the hit and taking the damage right in his back. This attack deals moderate damage and leaves a mark on the Floatzel's back.

After this round, both pokémon have used up little energy with attacks belonging to their type or weaker moves, Freeze would have used up more energy if he hadn't used the rainy conditions to his advantage with the blizzard attack command. Both pokémon have plenty of hitpoints left and seem more than capable of battling for quite some time yet. The rain looks as if it wont give up at any point soon...

Tyson looked at the field and smiled, his strategy had worked out well since he countered what the other trainer had ordered, now however, he had to make a strategy that couldn't be easily countered after he explained it. "Stay where you are, if it wants to attack it can get close to you. Then prepare your Icy Power to push it away with some wind, as it can't attack you from up so close and you can see long range attacks will be easier to evade." Freeze nodded and prepared to attack.

"Hold on, you also need to evade all long-range attacks, or even better, counter them. Use a Dark Pulse to match attacks with that power."

Stark scowled. That last attack had caught them off guard and Floatzel had the mark to prove it. Regardless, they were still doing alright despite the miss of one of their attacks. A fact that no doubt would bother both of them long after this battle was over considering how much time they had spent on accuracy training.

Floatzel stood hunched over, a snarl on his face as he awaited Stark's commands. If there was one thing the sea otter disliked it was being shown up. It's eyes narrowed on the white furred opponent who had gotten the better of him. Like his trainer, Floatzel now felt a burning determination to reach within himself for that extra something he would need to win this battle.

As it was, Stark and Floatzel held the speed advantage thanks to Floatzel's natural ability to move through wet conditions with ease. Stark knew that they would need to use that if they were to win. Afterall, the rain wouldn't last forever. His eyes surveyed the field as Tyson gave Freeze a set of commands. A plan began to form in Stark's mind. One that could quite possibly be brilliant or foolish depending on how it turned out. The white weevil was not to be taken lightly, but playing conservatively was not going to get them the win in the long run. Floatzel was trained for fast accurate battles, not long marathon fights.

"Alright Floatzel, let's take a page out of their own playbook," Stark called out to his partner, "Use Pursuit and your speed to get in close to him before he can make a move. Once you are close to him, grab him and use your Strength to throw him into the fountain over there."

As the two pokémon listen to their trainers strategies keenly, they begin the next round of attacks. Freeze, wanting to keep as much distance between himself and the Floatzel, begins to blow a cold blast of air towards Floatzel, utilizing the rain once again so as to use the attack with far more ease than usual. However, seeing this, the Floatzel uses his increased speed in the rain to avoid the majority of the freezing icy wind attack, running towards the Weavile with a pursuit attack. With this burst of speed and attack, Floatzel dashes towards Freeze, coated in a black aura, before uppercutting him in the stomach.

Freeze, now the previous attacks were over, held his claws upwards and began to create his own dark attack. As he did so, waves of energy seeped from both claws, hitting into the Floatzel and dealing it quite a bit of damage and causes the water pokémon to flinch, meaning Freeze has plenty of time to avoid his next attack and await his next set of orders...

After this round, both pokémon have now suffered from a light pursuit attack. Floatzel has been dealt a significant amount of damage from the Weavile's dark pulse attack, but other than that, both pokémon seem just as capable as continuing with their bout as they had in previous rounds. The rain is also still pouring heavily from the sky. Both pokémon have quite a lot of energy left, also, due to them sticking with attacks mainly of their own typing.

Stark furrowed his brow as Floatzel took the full brunt of the Dark Pulse hit. He had taken a risk and in hindsight it was a mistake. The attack had thrown both trainer and pokemon off and forced them to try something new. Still he didn't want to completely abandon his earlier strategy. For now though he needed another edge.

"Floatzel! Now while you're still fairly close! Use Ice Beam! He's wet enough that if you hit him it should slow him down considerably when his wet fur freezes despite his type," Stark shouted to his partner, "Then follow it up with an Iron Tail!"

Tyson was surprised of the outcome of the last round. He expected to keep the Floatzel at bay, but not to actually damage it. He heard the commands of the opposite trainer, and looked at his Weavile, who he knew could match the power of the other pokemon, as long as he knew what to do.

"Match the Ice Beam with one of your own!" He thought about the second attack. "Let's take a-" he changed his mind taking a hit would not be good with Iron Tail as the attack. "Match the Iron Tail with Double Hit, one to block and one to attack."

[Bit later than I anticipated, I've been pretty busy :x]

As both trainers issue their attacks, the pokémon begin attacking once more. At their respective locations, they both begin to muster their own ice beam attacks. However, as anticipated, the two attacks fire from the pokémon's mouth, meeting in the middle and matching each other in power, thus causing no damage to either side but using up energy.

Eyeing his chance, Floatzel uses his increased speed to get up close to the Weavile, jumping upwards before thrashing his glowing tail on the head of Freeze, not giving the Weavile enough time to use double hit to block and causing it to take damage. However, as Floatzel finishes attack, Freeze still attacks with double hit, beating the Floatzel twice, once with each claw.

After this match, both pokémon have used up more energy, Floatzel moreso than Weavile due to the typing of the attacks. Both pokémon still seem rather even in terms of hitpoints, but iron tail damaged the Weavile moreso than double hit damaged Floatzel.

Tyson was shocked at the outcome of the last round. Sure, Freeze hadn't been completely annihalated, but damage builds up, and neither he or Freeze wanted to lose because of aa 5-point lead. He thought fo a second, then gave his orders.

"Look at whatever he hits you, and use Counter to fight back against any physical moves then use Dark Pulse to counter al long range attacks!"

The Iron Tail did its job. Floatzel was back on even footing with the Weavile and its clever trainer. Still, they had a long way to go if they were going to win this battle. Stark looked over the field as Tyson gave his commands to Freeze. The other trainer was going defensive. A smart move, but not one Stark or Floatzel was about to copy. Not after that Taunting they took back in the first round. They had spent too much time working on fast attacks to keep opponents off balance to try to change strategies now.

"Alright Floatzel let's see how they react to a little different strategy. Try to fake 'em out with a Sonic Boom. Then while he's reacting to your attack head for the fountain and start swimming until you are able to create a Waterfall to drop on on him."

[I'm not very punctual, apologies :x]

Leaving no time at all, the pokémon jump right back into their battle. Floatzel, using its increased speed, darts towards Freeze until he is within a matter of a few inches, where he speeds up even more, creating bizarre shockwaves which knock the Weavile back a little, causing him to slip backwards, blinking heavily. Wasting no time, Freeze attempts to swing a claw around, trying to counter the attack and dealing his own damage on the Floatzel but fails as the Floatzel leaps into the fountain immediately after the sonicboom attack.

Now in the fountain, the water pokémon begins to form the water within it into a humongous attack, the liquid rising up in a cascading column above both pokémon. Seeing this, the Weavile stops and looks upwards before attempting to counter the attack with a pulse of dark energy. However, due to the rain, being already provided with the water energy and being a water type, the waterfall attack is far more powerful and it surges right through Freeze's attack, sending the pokémon far across the arena before crashing into the wall, severely damaged. The guards and their pokémon look on in shock but this wasn't intended damage, so the Arcanine disregard it.

After this round, Freeze is significantly lower hitpoints wise due to a powerful waterfall attack whereas Floatzel is still in pretty decent shape. Both pokémon have used up moderate amounts of energy still and Floatzel used up less energy than it would have normally by utilizing the water already in the fountain.

"Great job Floatzel!" Stark shouted out to his partner. The plan worked even better than expected and now that they had a way around Freeze's defenses Stark felt the best course of action was to keep pressing the attack. His eyes quickly scanned the guards and their Arcanine. For a moment he wondered if maybe they could take them in a battle. Afterall, he and Floatzel had the type advantage. The thought soon faded as the reality of taking on multiple opponents after an already difficult battle would be foolishness. Instead the trainer turned his attention back to the matter at hand. The last attack worked well, but he doubted that Tyson and Freeze would let them get away with something like that again without paying for it.

"Alright Floatzel, now while we have the advantage! Use Surf to send a wave at him from the fountain, then leap up to the top of the Kingdra fountain while sending a Swift attack their way."

He looked at the battle's outcome the last round. He looked at the now injured Freeze in disgust, how could he let this happen to his pokemon? He shrugged the thought from his head and looked at the Battle. Although Freeze had less hitpoints than Floatzel he had an advantage. Water Froze! Tyson looked at the Area and took his chance.

"Freeze, Its still raining, water freezes and you are an Ice type! Aim for the Surf and slow it down with a Blizzard, maybe enough to freeze it. If that's not enough then use Blizzard again and get the hell out of there. Swift probably can't hit you if its frozen, but just in case, your attack will slow it down.

With the last round causing serious damage for one trainer's pokémon, the two trainers attempt to either continue said damage or recoil in their own fashion. Sending orders, the pokémon, both pumped, begin their attacks once again. Already being in the fountain, Floatzel uses the water around him to his advantage, using the energy within it to create a colossal wave, which begins to make its way towards Freeze. Prepared for this, however, the Weavile uses the rains and his icy breath to create a blizzard, aiming at the base of the oncoming wave. The attack does as intended, causing the whole wave to completely freeze, protecting it from its onslaught.

Despite his first attack not working out as intended, Floatzel moves straight in for the next attack, leaping high onto the very top of the Kingdra-shaped fountain, using the water to propel itself higher. Landing ever so carefully, the water pokémon begins to fire a flurry of stars at the Weavile through the rain and, as he does, Freeze matches the attack with his own; another blizzard attack. As the two collide, they both continue towards their intended targets, the swift attack damaging the Weavile and the flurry of ice particles sticking to Floatzel, causing severe damage. On top of that, the water pokémon seems to have become frozen solid atop the statue.

After this round, the first attack was well combatted by Freeze and both pokémon's second attacks dealt damage, Freeze's blizzard significantly more. On top of that, Floatzel is frozen. Energy wise, both pokémon are still raring to go. Both pokémon are capable of going on, but neither have got a terribly large amount of hitpoints left.

Tyson looked at the field he had a frozen foe on a statue and some guards that could cause him pain with a pokemon with a type advantage. If he destroyed anything they would unleash the dogs, and that was bad really bad in this case. He thought about just telling Freeze to Shoot a Hyper Beam at the trapped pokemon, but that could lead to his downfall if Freeze missed and hit the statue.

As a quick plan formulated Tyson gave some quick orders to his Weavile. "Look's like he's stuck in place for now, but if I know battling he'll probably try to break the ice around him, so we need to take advantage of his current state. Hit him with a Brain Freeze to cause shock to slow him down, then jump into the air and hit him with a Night Slash."
Thoughts raced through his head, I hope this works, Freeze is getting near the limit.

Stark looked on in horror. His face a mix of anger, frustration and fear. He knew that sooner or later Tyson would begin using ice attacks to counter their water attacks, but he had hoped that they avoid the freezing effect. Unfortunately that hope was now dashed. Until they found a way to break out of the frozen state Floatzel was in they weren't going to be doing much of anything. On the plus side, if one could call it that, they were frozen on the architectural center of the battle zone. Meaning that the White Weavil wouldn't be able to use any truly devastating moves without risking damage to the centerpiece of the courtyard.

Stark grit his teeth in an attempt to figure out a way to free Floatzel while Tyson ordered his commands. His fists clenched tight as he shouted to his partner in hopes that his frozen friend would be able to hear him, "Floatzel! Use your Strength to try to break free of the ice. If that works or if that weavile knocks you free with an attack follow up with a Slash of your own!"

There was nothing left now but to watch and pray as the events played out toward their endgame. Come on Floatzel. You can do this. I have faith in you.

[Here it is, I've been busybusy again :x]

With Floatzel being stuck atop the statue, encapsulated in the ice formed by Freeze's blizzard attack, the match was surely coming to a close. However, the water type weasel was not ready whatsoever to give in just yet. Where he was rooted, he began to thrash about, using his increased strength to break the majority of the ice prison from his legs. However, as he did so, the ice weasel moved in for another attack. A look of malice overtook his face as he flung his claws high into the air, pointing them at the Floatzel who had a look of fear in his eyes. As the attack hit, the Floatzel seemed to become stiff as a board, a vacant expression on his face as his brain seemed to freeze.

Noticing the perfect opportunity, Freeze looks back at his trainer with a grin before leaping up towards the Kingdra statue, swinging on it until he reached his foe. As he did so, his claws glowed a shadowy hue and, upon reaching the top, he slammed both claws simultaneously into the Floatzel's head, which had already taken the traumatizing brain freeze attack. With this attack, Freeze leaps back to his intial position on the ground below and, as he watches, his foe falls from the top of the statue and into the water in the fountain with a splash. As this happens, the rains seems to dissipate and it appears as if the match is complete...

Floatzel is unable to battle any further meaning Freeze the Weavile is the winner!

And with this victory, Freeze gains two levels, levelling her from 51 to 53 (if he has not gained any levels post-entering this battle). On top of this, psychopath wins this little beauty, an Intermediate Trainer Battle trophy!. Upon the collection of three of these you will be able to take a Lvl 2 Gym challenge.

Thanks guys, hope you enjoyed the battle :3

OOC: Thanks for the battle Stark, and thanks for reffing P_P.

Tyson ran forward towards the ref and took the trophy, then ran to Freeze, who looked like he was ready to lay down and sleep for three days. "Thanks dude, this was our first win ever. Lay down and sleep, I'll reward you later." He opened his pokeball and let Freeze in, he deserved the rest.

He walked over to his opponent and let out his hand to be shaken. "It was a great match, and I would love to battle again."

OOC: Figured I'd add a quick thanks to you psycho. And thanks to you as well Pearl's Perap. It was fun.

Stark stared with wide eyes and clenched teeth as Floatzel fell into the fountain exhausted and beaten. He wanted to scream, but something inside him found no voice to express himself. Instead he lowered his and closed his eyes as he took in a deep breath to calm himself and his disappointment. Granted he was happy Tyson finally won the battle considering all of the effort the young man had put into it, but defeat was never an easy pill to swallow. Still there was always next time.

Stark smirked as he raised a familiar red and white orb into the air, "Floatzel return." A flash of bright light shot forth encapsulating the sea otter in its glow. A moment later the flash receded back into the pokeball taking Floatzel with it.

"You did great pal," Stark commented to the ball in his hand, "We'll get 'em next time."

Soon Tyson ran over and extended his hand to the trainer. Stark smiled and shook the hand and listened as the young man said, "It was a great match, and I would love to battle again."

"Anytime you want," Stark replied with a sly wink, "Although knowing what I know now, I won't go quite so easy on you next time."

The trainer turned and started to leave the arena only to stop and look back at Tyson adding, "By the way, congratulations on winning a great match. You earned it." With that Stark continued on his way to whatever the future held for him and his companions.
