PokéRinger Opening Round - empoleon dynamite vs. Music Box~
"Welcome to the first of eight opening rounds of the Delibird Ridge PokéRinger contest, my name is Zak and I will be commentating today. Our challengers today go by the names of Wes and Tim. Wes is entering with Poptart, a newly evolved Yanmega and Tim is entering with Birdie the rather quirky Delibird. Both participants look positively on fire as they look upwards towards their pokémon's prize, the PokéRinger ring. Without further ado, a reminder of the rules." The commentator's booming voice stopped for a few moments to draw attention to the LCD screen.
1 vs. 1 72 hour DQ Tournament Trainer Battle (Pokemon will be considered to be of equal strength but will not gain or lose any attacks) Return = KO PokéRinger arena - a 60 x 40 open-air arena surrounded by four spectating stands. Suspended 100 metres above the arena in a balloon, attached to which is a PokéRinger ring for the trained or rental pokémon to retrieve. Once retrieved it is to be taken to and dropped onto a 5 metre tall goal post directly below the balloon. "If both trainers could take their places on their opposite balloons..." the voice appeared once more, "Once you are in the balloon and off the ground, I would like to send me your opening commands with the built-in microphone and release your chosen pokémon." On the screen, a humongous Magikarp coin appeared. Two banners appeared, showing that heads was representing Wes and tails was representing Tim. With a quick flip, the coin reveals a heads, meaning Wes will order first after the opening round." [Please PM both the release of your pokémon once the balloon is in the air and your opening commands. You don't have to roleplay too much, but it's always welcome :3 Do not rush with your PMs, if you are still waiting for TMs and what not.] |

Opening battle round one

As both participants take to their respective balloons, the crowd looks on in great anticipation, almost complete silence coming from the stands. Wes makes his way onto his balloon and turns up the heat, raising his balloon to around twenty metres before the ropes keeping it in place stop it from going any higher. Tim does the same and, as he does, both trainers release their chosen fliers, Wes with Poptart the Yanmega and Tim with Birdie the Delibird. As each trainer gives their pokémon their initial orders, speaking into the balloon's built-in microphone, the pokémon leap into action. With his significant speed advantage, the Yanmega begins first. Forming a large white sphere of energy within its legs, it fires the ball directly towards the Delibird, knocking the pokémon off of its concentration and hitting it for moderate damage. Retaliating, the Delibird flaps his tiny wings several times and, as he does, several small hailstones begin to fall from the sky above. Noticing this, Yanmega begins to use his speed once more, initiating a quick attack to move upwards towards his destination; the PokéRinger ring. In cold pursuit, the Delibird flaps his tiny wings once more, this time attempting to summon up a harsh blizzard. Though the attack succeeds, the speedy Yanmega's quick attack assists in the dodging of the attack. Noticing he needs to catch up to the dragonfly who is already beginning his ascent, Birdie attempts to summon up a whirlwind and, as he does, Poptart multiplies itself several times, creating confusion for his opponent and making himself more evasive, the perfect idea for a contest such as this. As the whirlwind rips upwards, the Yanmega copies begin to disappear, each one being engulfed in the tearing winds. As the real Poptart attempts to get higher, the whirlwind finally collides with him and knocks him off course slightly. After this round, both pokémon have quite a lot of energy still remaining. Birdie has used up more energy with a failed Blizzard attack, however. In terms of distance from the ring, Poptart the Yanmega has about sixty metres to go and Birdie the Delibird has about seventy metres between him and the ring. Both trainers look on at their pokémon in the sky, confident they can succeed in the contest. empoleon dynamite to order first, followed by Music Box~ |

Wes bit his lip in angst; he’d never anticipated such harsh weather conditions. The odds would have surely shifted with the frosty stones beating against the poor bug. “Ok Poptart, use your Whirlwind attack to direct most of those icy rocks en route to that penguin. It probably won’t do a lot but it should reduce the bitter sting. Then, sub up and fire a spew of toxic onto Birdie!”

Birdie is a female btw PP. ;)
As Wes gave directions to Poptart, Tim came up with a plan that he thought could work. "Birdie, use the incoming hail as platforms to travel on while you preform Rollout on Poptart! Then strike him with an Aerial Ace when you get the chance! If you need to, try regaining energy by using Roost, then go for the ring! Good luck girl!" Not only did the next commands come from both trainers but the hail did too. The sky seemed to dull as the tiny shards of ice began falling from the sky onto the battlefield and both pokémon flying above it. Being of the ice type, Birdie merely absorbs the ice, but Poptart suffers a slight bit of damage from the falling hail. Poptart is the first to make a move, his ability seriously upping his speed each turn. Flapping his wings in a supersonic manner, the Yanmega manages to keep the majority of the surrounding hail off of itself and aim them towards its opponent. As the whirlwind attack rips across the aerial arena, Birdie attempts to use the hail to her advantage, flapping her wings and trying to use the tiny stones as a way to get her higher.
Noticing this strategy and how the Delibird seemed to be flailing around mid-air, Poptart looks on in complete confusion. Suddenly, Birdie begins to somersault in the direction of the Yanmega. With this, Poptart begins his next attack, opening his tiny mouth wide before spewing out a large pool of bubbling poisonous matter. As the toxic attack makes contact with the Delibird, it engulfs the rolling penguin, causing her to stop flying in such a manner and return to her normal flying stance. As she does so, the poison that did not splash off of the Delibird during the rollout attack begins to seep into her bloodstream, causing her to cry out in pain as the poison begins to course through her veins. Angered by this, Birdie flies at Poptart, glowing white as she does so, before making contact with the Yanmega's underside. At the end of this round, neither pokémon has made much more of an advance towards the ring. The hail is still falling heavily across the arena and has so far only done a slither of damage to Poptart and Birdie is badly poisoned from Poptart's Toxic attack. Both pokémon have a good 3/4 of their hitpoints left and seem raring to go in terms of energy, Poptart's powerful poison move having caused him to lose a little more energy than Birdie. Birdie, use another Whirlwind on Yanmega to distract him while you go for the ring! Then use a Water Gun to dampen Yanmega's wings, that should slow him down some. And while Yanmega's wings are still wet, use Icy Wind to freeze them! Good luck!

Arial Ace over the wind current with your newfound speed boosts giving you an extra kick. Then use a double team once more and go for one fell swoop with your quick attack for that ring!

[Little later than anticipated guys, I'll try and be quicker with the next round of attacks :3]
With pokémon having orders to advance towards the ring in some way or another, the next round began in an instant. Flapping her tiny wings in what looked like a distressed manner, Birdie whips up a large funnel of wind. Luckily for Poptart, his speed, boosted again by the speciail ability, allows him to use a speedy aerial ace to escape the whirling winds. Seeing this happen before her attack, Birdie sprays a jet of water upwards at the Yanmega, lapping at his bottom for a slight bit of damage. As the water attack finishes, Poptart seems to split itself into a circle of Yanmega above the Delibird. Birdie, not having sufficient leverage to determine which clone is actually the real Poptart, opens her beak as wide as she can before breathing out a chilling icy wind attack. As the wind mixes with the already haily conditions, the attack reaches Poptart and his double team clones. Realizing that this is his time to move, the Yanmega zooms upwards with a quick attack, leaving his clones to suffer to blow from the icy wind. As he gets closer and closer to the destination of the ring, he gets buffeted by the hail for a tiny bit of damage. After this round, Poptart's focus on the ring moreso than battling has gotten him a height advantage over Birdie. With this, Birdie has taken no damage this round and Poptart has taken a moderate hit from the water gun attack and lost a tiny bit of health after being buffeted by hail, leaving the Yanmega with just above 2/3 of his health. In terms of distance from the ring, Poptart is thirty metres from the ring and Birdie is fifty five metres from the ring. empoleon dynamite to order first, followed by Music Box~ |

Now that your whizzing about at lightning speed, It's time to leave Birdie in the dust and take what's rightfully yours!
Create a Lightscreen to warden off any special attacks, then fire a Flash Cannon for good measure! Finish up by getting the ring, drop it on the goal post if you can. Use a flash to dazzle her if she comes too close. |

Okay Birdie, show Wes that that ring doesn't rightfully belong to him by diving upwards throught the Lightscreen with an Aerial Ace which should break it, then blow Poptart away from the ring using a Whirlwind. If he gets the ring, let him flash you and follow up with the never-missing move, Swift to knock the ring away from him and grab it, then dive down to the goal post!

[Again, bit late, I've been busybusy :} I only just realized that I forgot about Toxic, sorry D:]
With both trainers eager for their pokémon to be the one to obtain the coveted PokéRinger ring, the orders came thick and fast. In a heartbeat, the super speed Yanmega began forming a translucent barrier around it, protecting it not only from the hail, but seriously cutting down the damage recieved from special attacks from Birdie. Not taking this lieing down, the Delibird begins to glow white before flinging herself towards the defense barrier, beak first. Successfully getting rid of the special attack barrier by piercing it, Poptart begins his second attack in an instant, forming a huge sphere between his tiny legs and firing it right at the Delibird. As the attack hits, Birdies cries out, having taken a decent hit. As the Yanmega uses his time wisely, darting upwards as soon as the Flash Cannon attack is finished, Birdie attempts to whip up another whirlwind. However, this time, with Poptart being much higher than before, the attack merely laps at its underbelly. Having reached the ring, Poptart snatches it with a large grin before instantly beginning his descent. Eyeing her chance to intercept, Birdie flies upwards slightly, where the Yanmega creates a humongous flashing attack, which the Delibird follows up quickly by the non-accuracy based swift, the tiny stars ripping through the air and buffeting the Yanmega. However, despite this, the dragonfly's grip on the ring is a tough one and he remains in complete control of it. As the penguin attempts to get the ring back, she becomes crippled by poison, dealing her a nice slice of damage. After this round, Poptart has managed to obtain the PokéRinger ring and begin his descent towards the goalpost. In terms of hitpoints, Birdie the Delibird has about 1/3 left and Poptart the Yanmega has around 1/2. Poptart the Yanmega has used quite a lot of energy, using both his speed and a powerful flash cannon attack, but seems to be pumped and ready for more. With not moving a whole lot and sticking to attack specific to her type, Birdie the Delibird has quite a bit of energy left. Both combatants are about fifty five metres above the goal post, where the winner will be decided. Mewsic Box to order first, followed by empoleon dynamite |

"We need to get that ring quick! Use Brain Freeze (description)! Fire off a Tri-Attack as well. Then swipe the ring away by using Aerial Ace as a speed boost. If you get the ring, flap to the ring post with all your might, and keep a firm grip, too!" shouted Tim as he anxiously awaited to see what will happen next.

Ok Pi, set up a sturdy substitute to buffer against the two attacks, then when he's busy attacking the artificial doll, Use another Quick Attack to get to that goal post and finish things. Detect any of Birdie's snatching techniques and dodge accordingly if need be.

[I'm getting worse and worse with my reffing, been so busy D:]
With Poptart in control of the ring, both pokémon set about the beginning of this round with the same goal: to get the ring and make it down to the goal post to win the match. Having another boost of speed with the round's start, the dragonfly pokémon saps a portion of his health in order to create a doll form of itself. As the bizarre substitute is formed, the Delibird begins her own assault. Placing her wings together, she summons up two tiny fists of ice energy, directing them at the Yanmega's head. Luckily, the substitute is blocking the attack and takes the damage caused. With this, it disappears in an instant. Noticing the destruction of his substitute, Poptart, with his already greatly boosted speed, begins to beeline towards the ring with a Quick Attack. Above him, Birdie opens her beak wide, firing out three bizarre triangles of energy directly at the Yanmega. As the three triangles, each one representing a different element, career through the air towards Poptart. With the impending attack getting closer and closer, Poptart quickly detects the oncoming threat and manages to dodge. Visibly aggravated by none of her attacks working properly, the Delibird begins to follow the bug down towards the ring. However, with the incredible speed boost, Birdie fails to catch up in time and, in what seems like no time at all, the Yanmega arrives at the goal post, dropping the ring with a great deal of ease. Congratulations to empoleon dynamite and Poptart the Yanmega, you have made it through to the next round and Poptart recieves one level up. My condolences to Mewsic Box, but you're not going away with nothing, you win a Flying Ball to take away with you. [Great match guys, it was close throughout the whole match but the last round sealed it, with emp's strategy. Hope you enjoyed this battle, I know I certainly enjoyed reffing ^__^] Last edited by Pearl's Perap; 04-20-2009 at 05:43 PM. Reason: Forgot level up :x |

Kudos to you Mewsic, you almost had me. Ice Shard would have surely hurt harder than a can of bug spray Oo;
Being one of my oldest FB friends, I look forward to our future battles ^^ A smirk beckoned upon the young trainer’s face cherry-hued ring clanged onto the fortified pillar. They’d done it without a hitch. The speed bandit had held his own in such blustering conditions and despite the bitter shards of hail beating away at his brittle endoskeleton, he’d won the battle with flying colours! Zipping left and right as his distinctive ability brought him to supersonic velocity, XLR8 spun rearward and whizzed en route to the wicker balloon at lightning speed. Grappling ahold of the trainers head with his serrated claws, the odd bug emitted a cheerful drone to show his fondness. The two had certainly grinded to get into such shape, and it seemed their tireless endeavour was starting to pay off. Stroking the bug’s jagged hide as he dismounted the wicker balloon, Wes only wondered who he would face next in the areal play-offs. The two gallantly waved at the booming crowd, soon to face off against a second advesary. |
