(MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS) Just saw The Dark Knight...

...and I could not have been more impressed. It was a spectacular example of what a film should be, and is the best Batman movie period. Ledger's performance was the stuff of legend, and outranks Jacky-boy's, in my opinion. As a former actor, I notice some things others usually don't when watching movies. Consistency is a big one. Ledger became the Joker for this movie. In every scene he was in, he nailed the quirks, the ticks, and most of all the menacing, disturbing presence that the Joker emanates. My jaw dropped several times in sheer awe of his portrayal of a Joker who wants nothing more than to "watch the world burn."

Bale gave another great performance, and we see more of the internal conflicts writhing beneath those pointy ears. Gary Oldman gave another wonderful performance, and definitely is the right man to play Commissioner Gordon. Michael Caine's role was limited, but the time he did get was poignant and in line with Albert's supporting nature for Bruce. I was anxious about Aaron Eckhart playing Harvey Dent/Two Face, but the writing was so well done that nothing seemed forced or cheesey. Same goes for Gyllenhaal. All around, it was a phenomenal performance by everyone.

The acting, cinematography, light and shadow play, writing, casting...I'm simply amazed, and I don't think words can do this film justice.

I agree, it was one of the best movies I have ever watched. Heath Ledger was perfect for the Joker, as Sciz said, nailing everything the Joker usually does, including the crude humor. And all I wanted to do was praise Ledger . Everyone else acted brilliantly, I couldn't have been more pleased.

You shouldn't have claimed Bale did a good job, VGM, that takes away some of your credibility when it comes to Ledger. :P I have heard TDK is a great flick, though, but I don't know how to evaluate it since so many people are so set out to give Ledger Oscar nominations based on his untimely death. From the sharpest of critic, I've heard he gives a "great" performance so there is some truth to the matter.

I'm not a fan of the new Batman films though. Mostly because of the modern setting instead of Burton's "timeless gothic" land that inspired The Animated Series. However, I do want to see TDK if only for Ledger's Joker.

VGM? oO;

Bale does play Batman remarkably well, and to say the man isn't a talented actor takes away some of your credibility, regardless of his private life. :X

And I thoroughly dislike it when people disrepect a person's memory by pandering to them and making them greater in death than they were in life. Believe you me, I've seen a LOT of great performances, and Ledger's Joker is mind-blowing.

I don't know anything about his private life, but I found his performance in Batman Begins to be middling. I'm not the only one either - many others acknowledge him as good, but not great.

Yeah, I should post more. :X

Batman rates as my favorite superhero, tied with Supes. I have very fond memories of watching Batman cartoons (there were a few different ones) when I was a kid.

Bale has been the best Batman so far, including Michael Keaton. I generally thought the Burton films were too goofy for their own good, and the new series is finally doing justice to the character.

Adam West was the best Batman.

That's true, in spite of the series trying to move away from the campy nature of the TV series it still had quirks, but those were more Burton issues than related to the previous tongue-in-cheek of the older incarnations.

Personally, what I'm hoping for is a movie adaption of Batman: The Animated Series. That was no-nonsense compared to Burton's movie but still retained the unique feel and setting of the story, yet was "distantly modern" and even futuristic.

The cartoon from the 90s~ was pretty much one of the best batmans ever. That was what really got me into Batman. Didn't see the Dark Knight yet, as I am way too lazy and busy working atm.

Re: (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS) Just saw The Dark Knight...

I am NOT a Batman fan. Heck, I can care less about superhero movies. However, The Dark Knight is still one of the most impressive movies I've seen. The entire film was breathtakingly exciting, and had tremendous pacing to boot. Heath Ledger is terrific, and created a villainous persona on par with Anthony Hopkin's Hannible Lecter. He certainly deserves an Oscar, but I have a feeling that he's only going to get a nomination. I think this is only the second movie that I've ever seen in the cineplexes multiple times in my life. (The UVA theater where I worked doesn't count, and I think the other movie is Pokemon: The First Movie.)

Good stuff. Let's hope it stays hot enough to pass Titanic in the box office.
