So is Pokémon GO the Chris Pine Star Trek of Pokémon then? Not really anything to do with Pokémon but a great way to make loads of money?

I wouldn't go that far. Like, yeah, if you're expecting AR Pokemon Red then you're gonna be disappointed. AR isn't good enough for that yet. The system is fairly rudimentary. On the map screen there's a bar at the bottom right that tells you what Pokemon are nearby (and when you open it up, roughly how far), but there's not much in specifics or even a direction. Puffs of grass will show up here and there to give a general location of where Pokemon are, but it is annoyingly not perfect. Borrowing from Ingress, landmarks are called poke stops and that's where you get pokeballs and potions and all that. There are no centers (and of course you can buy things with micro transactions). Then there are gyms in places. If it's on your team, you can load up a Pokemon to defend it if there's an open slot. Otherwise you battle it to take it over or at least weaken it. You can train at it if it's your gym, though. Still working out how they actually work. Battles are fairly simple and are mostly tapping and swiping, but I've hardly done any so fuck if I know the nuances.
And yeah, the two currencies for training your Pokemon are stardust and Pokemon specific candies. Evolving them costs a certain amount of candy, and then leveling them up is 1 candy and X amount of stardust. The amount of stardust depends on how leveled up you already are. You get stardust and candy from catching Pokemon, so basically to get my pidgeot I had to farm the shit out of some pidgey. It's not the mind blowing game we may have been wanting, but it's still pretty fun. I imagine they'll be updating and expanding the game as time goes on to stop the novelty from dying off (at the very least, there are five more gens to add in). But Niantic and Nintendo are totally making major bank off this. |

Honestly? It is mind blowing. Just want to say that.
Also there is no evidence of whether or not Eeveelutions can be influenced. I'd recommend visiting somewhere with a river though.

Due to servers being on fire, they have delayed EU and Canada etc. launch for the time being. On top of this, the game is getting a lot of one stars on the app store because of this issue and I'm sure they are trying to mitigate it as much as possible.
Big sorry. |

What a day! I went from level 4 to level 6, joined Team Valor, caught a Venonat, an Ekans, a Grimer, a Meowth, a Bellsprout, a Spearow, a couple of Seel and Drowzee, and a buttload of Pidgey and Rattata. Finally got to evolve some Pokémon, too, albeit just a Pidgey and a Rattata. Though I'm slowly gaining enough Drowzee Candy to get me a Hypno, too. Wish I could find a damn Koffing, though. I want a Weezing to end up being my absolute best Pokémon.

Just download the APK but make sure you find a legit one. There are some malicious ones going around.

>wakes up
>checks GO >encounters a Drowzee >catches the Drowzee >catching the Drowzee puts me at exactly 49 Drowzee Candy >is upset at being just one away from evolving a Drowzee >realizes I can transfer the extra Drowzee and get my 50th Drowzee Candy >does so >now wants to hold out for an extra Drowzee Candy anyway so I can power up the Drowzee before I evolve it |

And that's nothing. One time, I had this dream where all I remember is that it took place on Christmas morning, and that a Pokémon was present in the dream, but I don't remember any other details about it. What's eerie about it is that the Pokémon that was in that dream? A Drowzee. And there are Pokédex entries stating that if you know you had a good dream but can't remember it, a Drowzee probably ate it. |

Just got done mowing the lawn (BEES. BEES EVERYWHERE. >_<), checked Go, found a Jigglypuff. Threw a Poké Ball at it, but then the game seemed to freeze. I reloaded the app, and to my relief, I appeared to have caught the Jigglypuff.
Also finally evolved my strongest Drowzee into a Hypno, and it has surpassed my Jynx as my strongest Pokémon. |
