Beginner Trainer Battle: Mon1010 vs. Gemini Spark

The sun was high in the sky, today it was a very warm and pleasant day. Hardly a cloud was obstructing the sun from beaming down onto the ground. The battlefield was on the outskirts of Fizzytopia in a large deep quarry. An electromagnetic field energised the fencing on the perimeter to the quarry, it wasn't as strong as usual today due to the hot weather but it still sparked every now and them.; a warning to all those entering the quarry. This excavated hole in the ground was large enough for trainers and their Pokemon to hold a battle but it wasn't the safest of arena. This was once a working quarry and the equipment and machinery had been left when it was abandoned. The sides sloped steeply down and loomed 15 metres above the ground, any Pokemon climbing them would need to be very careful, a rock slide could occur with any small tremor. There were ors and large boulders strewn around the battlefield, possible weapons for those with the strength to hurl them.

The referee stood in the centre of the arena with a diamanté hard hat on, a bizzarre form of fashion I guess and she smiled warmly at the approaching trainers. They slowly and carefully made their way into the quarry looking a little unsure of the referee's choice of arena.

"Hello to you both. Now I can see you're wondering why I chose this arena, well it is a challenge for those who battle within it and I feel the need for a good challenge. Now after I go over the rules you can both make your way to your trainer boxes. You must make sure you remain within your trainers boxes throughout the battle and if you could wear these hard hats for the duration that would be great" she said handing them yellow scuffed helmets.

Arena: Fizzytopia's Energos Quarry: Fizzytopia's Energos Quarry: An electromagnetic field surrounds this abandoned quarry giving Electric Types who battle here a power boost. A "pit" of sorts, the quarry is approximately 20m x 20m wide at its lowest point, the steep slopes surrounding it around 15 metres high. The quarry is filled with ores and debris as well as some abandoned machinery while small boulders and tons of rubble line its sides. Any Pokémon with strength enough to lift the boulders are able to use them as weapons.

She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Mon1010 to Heads and Gemini Spark to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Heads".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:

– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round (I am happy with up to 3 being used per round)
- I will then ref the first round.
- Mon1010 will then order their attacks for the next round.
- Gemini Spark then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!

Bio: While walking through a town, Hyrem stumbled upon an adoption facility and saw this Seedot in the window hopping around. Sera transmitted a purplish color into his mind. He wasn't sure what that meant, but he did get the feeling Sera wasn't sure about Seedot. However, he didn't let that dissuade him, and he added the spunky Seedot to his team. Daphne hasn't shown any of her abilities yet, but she might just be keeping them secret until the time is right.

Energos Quarry was definitely a dangerous place for a friendly battle between two trainers, but the two involved left it up to the referee to decide, and Hyrem wasn't about to protest. Besides, Daphne was in good spirits despite this arena being less than optimum for her. After all, she loved the hot, mostly sunny skies with a nice, cool breeze occasionally filling the place. Still, Hyrem was a little nervous about all this. There was abandoned equipment and machinery everywhere, and rocks were strewn across the battlefield. It looked like more could fall into the giant hole if they weren't careful. Also, this being Daphne's first battle, there was no telling how she'd do.

As the referee explained the rules, she cautioned both trainers to stay within their boxes for safety reasons, and she gave both of them yellow hardhats to wear for protection. Hyrem put on the hardhat and wished Scott good luck in this battle. This was also his Togepi's first battle, so it really could go either way. With that in mind, Daphne took her position on the battlefield, Hyrem went to his box, and they were ready to go!

"Alright, Daphne, let's synch up and battle!" he called to his Seedot.
"Seedot!" she replied as she stood firm and confident.
Hyrem knew a strategy from the beginning would be key. "We'll start off with some setup! Use Harden to protect yourself, then Growth to boost your attacks! Then go for a Leech Seed! One of those early on can help us gain control of this battle and keep it!"

Both trainers looked nervous as they took in their surroundings, this was definitely a dangerous battleground for two young Pokemon to have their first battle. Still they had left the decision to the referee and she was confident enough that all involved would not come into harm here. Both took their places in their assigned trainer boxes donning their donated hard hats before choosing their Pokeballs. Hyrem sent out a little Seedot called Daphne who bounced up and down with excitement, she was looking forward to her first battle. Scott sent out the cute little egg Pokemon Togepi, she was called Angela and she stared around the wasteland with concern. Both trainers exchanged pleasantries and the referee checked both were ready before dropping her flag indicating the start of the battle.

Daphne was the first to move having a slight speed advantage and begins to glow as she Hardens her skin boosting her defences for the rest of the battle. Angela has a similiar plan to boost her stats and her face draws into a wicked grin as her mind fills with Nasty thoughts, Ploting how she was going to take the Seedot down. Daphne is oblivious to all of this however and begins her second boost feeding on the sunshine beaming into the arena and using her Growth to boost her attack and special attack.

All was going well so far and Angela has plans to halt Daphne in her tracks. She waddles closer to the Seedot and begins to put on her Charms flattering her and trying to reduce her attack. Daphne falls for the Charms' effects and blushes at the compliments the Togepi was paying her causing her to forget to attack her. Angela smiles at her success and prepares to deal the first blow. She charges an orb of Rock energy before her before launching the Ancient Power at Daphne knocking her off her feet and making her blink in alarm and hurt. How could she attack her like that when she had been so nice and charming a minute ago!

After Daphne Hardened herself, Hyrem noticed that Scott's Togepi, Angela, had changed her demeanor from cute to downright evil; it reminded him of an evil Togepi seen in a Pokemon cartoon show. Meanwhile, Daphne continued her Growth process, but her trainer had a bad feeling about this Togepi. His suspicions were confirmed when Angela used her Charms to lull his Seedot into a false sense of security, making her unwilling to use Leech Seed against such a "friendly" Pokemon, then betraying those feelings with an Anciently Powered stone to her face.

"Man, that Togepi sure can be a Nasty Plotter! Since Angela wants to get in close, try a Leech Seed again! Then it's time for some Foul Play! Show her you've got a nasty streak of your own! Finally, while she's using Metronome, back up and use Bullet Seed! Maybe you can pelt her enough so she breaks her concentration, but if that doesn't work, be ready for anything!"

Angela has a slight lead over Daphne as she still had all her health remaining. He cute innocent face was back in place but the Seedot was not going to be fooled by the Togepi, she knew that the egg Pokemon meant business; and that that business was to hurt her! Scott was pleased with how his Pokemon had started out and Hyrem was also cheering on his little seed. Soon the action began again.

Angela waddles up to the little Seedot and leaps up landing back down on her with a Body Slam. Daphne winced from the move but with her hardened exterior and Angela's small size the attack didn't cause too much pain. Angela wiggles off her foe and as Daphne was in such a close proximity to her the Seedot take advantage of this. She forms a Seed from the tip of her hat and launches it at Angela, the seed making impact and breaking to form life sapping vines that will Leech the health from the Togepi.

Angela grunts in pain and feels her little limbs constricted by the vines sapping her health. This gives Daphne time to work on her Foul Play and she waits for Angela to make a move. Angela wiggles her body and manages to loosen the vines enough to move towards Daphne who was lying in wait, ready to counter her attack. She couldn't however counter the Sweet Kiss Angela plants on her shell shocking the Seedot and putting a glazed look in her eyes as she becomes confused.

Angela sighs in relief and wiggles some more trying to get her arms free enough to move them and does so after some effort. She begins to draw on her Metronome as Seedot looked on in confusion at what was occurring. Angela begins to dance back and forth in a weird manner and Daphne begins to following mimicking her movements. Soon both Pokemon were dance the same dance of Entrainment and now Daphne's ability matched Angela, she would have the Serene Grace ability for the remainder of the match. Both Pokemon stop dancing and Daphne was left looking confused as to what she was supposed to do next forgetting her orders entirely.

{I should probably read the PASBL Attack Descriptions before choosing my attacks, huh? :P Also, if Angela's health is being drained, shouldn't it be less than 100% somehow?}

Daphne didn't take too much damage from Angela Body Slamming her and in fact was able to capitalize off of her close proximity to fire a Leech Seed on the Togepi, draining health and energy and restricting her movements. However, despite Daphne's attempt at Foul Play, Angela blew a Sweet, sugary Kiss at the Seedot which resulted in her being confused. Fortunately, her Metronome only resulted in an Entrainment, changing her ability to Serene Grace. Well, definitely could've been worse. Confusion, however, was clearly going to take its toll for a while, as Daphne was too confused to launch her Bullet Seed.

"All right, Daphne, hope you can shake off the confusion soon! Let's go with Bullet Seed, then see if you can get back in there with a pair of Quick Attacks! Watch her movements and most importantly: don't fall for her tricks!" Hopefully Hyrem's commands were sufficiently received by his Seedot despite the confusion.

Scott snapped his fingers in disappointment. Body Slam didn't do much, and it actually got Angela Leech Seeded. Metronome didn't go quite the way Scott had hoped, Entrainment gave the opposing Seedot the Serene Grace ability. At least she didn't explode or do something detrimental. The confusion seemed to be helping, it prevented the opponents from carrying out it's Bullet Seed. Angela still had plenty of health left, unfortunately, there wasn't much she could do. "Alright Angela, fire off a couple of AncientPowers!" because it was the only reliable attack she had.

Both Pokemon were fighting hard to win this battle and at the end of the last round it appeared as though Angela has the lead with all of her health still intact. She had expended a lot of energy however and had to be careful not to burn out before she finished off her foe. Daphne had yet to land a single blow but the Leed Seed attached to the Togepi was loosening and soon she would recover some health and deal some of her own damage.

Daphne hears her trainer's orders but is too confused to act upon them, instead she runs forward and right into a metal drum making her fall over and sniffle in pain at the lump forming on her head. Angela grins at her opponent's misfortune and stretches her arms out finally freeing herself from the Leech Seed grunting as she feels the health sapped from her in one foul sweep as it returns to its owner. Never mind, she could deal with that pain. She charges up Rock Energy before her arms in the form of an orb and throws it at Daphne who squeals as the Ancient Power smashes into her.

Daphne is certainly no longer confused and looks about as she hears her trainer calling out to her with orders. She has missed the first order but clearly heard the second. She spies the mean little Togepi standing not too far from her and picks up speed as she charges towards her. She slams into Angela with her Quick Attack sending her flying, fortunately just pass a metal drum that would have caused more damage had she impacted it. Angela has just enough to get back to her feet as she's slammed into again by another Quick Attack. Daphne feels a lot better for having dealt some pain at last.

Angela rolls over onto her feet recovering from her blows rather quickly and charges up her dwindling rock energies before launching another Ancient Power right at Daphne who grunts in pain and falls back over.

Angela looked to have the edge in this battle. She had more health. But it's still early in the match, and it's still anyone's game. Angela appeared to be running low on energy, which means he had to hold off on the Ancientpowers.

The Seedot had recovered from her confusion, and she rammed into Angela with a Quick Attack. She's sent flying, and was barely able to get up before being hit by another Quick Attack. Fortunately Angela managed to retaliate with another Ancientpower, knocking her foe down.

"Alright Angela, hold off on the Ancientpowers. Use Body Slam again, and confuse her again with another Sweet Kiss Then try another Metronome

It took some time, but Daphne was able to overcome her confusion... after running into a metal drum and some Ancient Power, that is. At least Daphne's Leech Seed was there to give her some much needed health back as well. From there, her Quick Attacks were able to deal some more damage before she got slammed by another Ancient Power. Now it was time to start taking control of the battle.

"All right, Daphne, we finally dealt some good damage! Keep it up with some Foul Play to turn Angela's Body Slam against her! Then use Bullet Seed so that maybe we can block Sweet Kiss and deal some more damage! Finally, hamper her movements with another Leech Seed, and maybe that'll stop Angela from using Metronome!"

Daphne had finally landed a blow to Angela but she had still finished the round on her butt. Both Pokemon were fighting their first battle with everything they had and neither was willing to back down to the other. One had the advantage on health, the other on energy and now it was time to see who would end up on top at the end of this round.

Angela waddles over to Daphne preparing to squash her ... theoretically ... but Daphne has a sinister look in her eyes as she braces herself. Angela leaps forward with her Body Slam but as she does Daphne uses her Foul Play and mimicking the Togepi she leap up meeting her mid-air. Both Pokemon slam into each other before the force throws them both back to the ground. Both Pokemon blink out the dust from their eyes, that was a downright dirty move from Daphne, Angela certainly wouldn't fall for it again.

Both get back to their feet and Angela toddles towards Daphne preparing to latch a Sweet Kiss to her wooden cheek but the Seedot has other ideas. Before she can reach her Daphne shoots out a barrage of Bullet Seed that thuds against the Egg Pokemon propelling her back and halting her attack. The attack stops and Angela looks positively unhappy with her success so far. She closes her eyes and begins to sway her hands back and forth calling on Lady Luck with her Metronome. Daphne prepares to launch a Leech Seed at the Togepi but she had begun charging ground energy into her hand. Daphne shoots off her seed as Angela forms the energy into a Bone and runs towards the Seedot. The seed catches the top of her head but doesn't wrap around her until she Clubs the Seedot with her attack. She comes to a tumbling halt as the seed's vines wrap around her body and begins to sap her energy.

Daphne had plenty of energy to spare, and now was the time to start showing what she could do. As per the usual for Daphne, she used a little Foul Play to counter Angela's Body Slam, then her Bullet Seed kept Angela from getting even close enough for a Sweet Kiss. She may have gotten Bone Clubbed by Angela's Metronome, but another Leech Seed found its mark, brought the target to the ground, and started draining the little Togepi further.

"Yeah, there you go, Daphne, keep up the good work! Now Quick Attack her while she's down, step back for another Bullet Seed, then it's back in there with another Quick Attack! We just have to keep wearing her down and not fall into another trap right now!"

Drat, I somehow knew this was going to happen. Oh well, I was hoping I'd get Daphne a couple of levels without spending candies, but I went ahead and candied her... guess who evolved as a result?

While I'm here, I'll go ahead and put Togepi into my Pokedex since I forgot to do so at the beginning of the battle...

Togepi, the Spike Ball Pokemon. It stores happiness inside its shell and collects it from the positive emotions given by people and Pokemon. Then it shares that happiness with others. Rumor has it that if you can get a sleeping Togepi to stand up, you will receive good luck.

I wished some of that happiness extended to Daphne, but maybe it just happened indirectly. Meh, moving on then!
