It's good to know current and former LOs alike are keeping up with the next generation of Pokephilia.

I wonder how long these poor saps got. I know Gen V's starters had porn within like six hours or less, according to TV Tropes.

If we're still talking about starters, I thought maybe a fire/phychic would be cool? Or would that be a fail...

What can I say. Pokémon is inherently super creepy. Cats are really just a given.

I'm actually inclined to agree with IT's fears, even though I won't be too upset, because I'm pretty sure we've seen a Hoshido symbol flash on Sun!Legend's head in official footage. It is Daycat, fighter of the Nohr Scum, champion of the sun

Question, how many months after the EU release (or year?) would the quarantine last?

While avatars and signatures can be disabled temporarily by the members wishing to avoid spoilers, wouldn't it be more cooperative to extend the spoiler ban until one week after the games come out in Europe? One week is only somewhat arbitrary: in my experience, most of the excited kids manage to push through Story Mode within one school week and most of the more mellow adults also manage to push through it in about a week since haha no homework. If we give the community one week to complete Story Mode, then that means they don't have to worry about permitting sig images and then seeing something like this XY endgame favorite.
If we're being completely honest here, though, we have a lot of younger teens in the PASBL right now and teenagers tend to be the demographic hardest hit by autumn video game releases: they don't get the games until Christmas because they're the perfect Christmas present for Mom and Dad to buy. We can either sympathize with these kids and extend the spoiler ban until one week after Christmas Day (a.k.a. the first day of the new year) or else there isn't any meaningful reason to separate out our adult friends in Europe from our child friends in America and we might as well allow spoilers the moment the American adults are ready for them. It's really a question of compromise and of how much you want to give the spoiler avoiders vs. how much you want to give those who wish to express their love of Alola things instantly via their sigs, avatars, and forum posts. Like ... I'm sure that right this very second we have members who want to have starter images for their avatars or signatures but can't. I'm sure that's frustrating. It's all a question of tempering their frustration against the frustration of the spoiler avoiders were you to spoil them on stuff. At the end of the day I guess it's not unreasonable to ask a teen to go on ASB hiatus for a month (and UPN hiatus in general for a month) if they want to avoid Pokémon spoilers between November 18 and Christmastime. I used to do that with the Harry Potter books. It's harder to ask a UPNer to go without the forum for six months, which is why I think that having a spoiler ban in place right now is a nice courtesy. But it wouldn't be so difficult to go on hiatus for a few weeks.

What do you mean "Talon's"? I made three different proposals. You could easily be in favor of one of the proposals while disliking the two others.

One way that BW2 and especially XY's spoiler season suffered was in the Pokémon forum. Almost all discussion was relegated to spoiler-friendly threads in the News forum. You couldn't make stand-alone threads for discussion topics in Pokémon, because the very thread titles would spoil people trying to avoid spoilers. (Example: how do you make a thread about Mega Evolution that isn't titled awkwardly and that doesn't spoil people about a new game mechanic called "mega evolution" arriving? Emphasis on the solution not being awkward!) While we mostly discussed HGSS and BW1 in their own threads too, these games were discussed on UPN in a much friendlier atmosphere re:spoilers. I remember having a Cinccino avatar back when Cinccino's design was first revealed to the world. I remember having a picture in my signature that showed my BW1 dream team, consisting of Emboar, Lilligant, Cinccino, Galvantula, Chandelure, and one more Pokémon. And I'm me. A guy that half the community likes to decry as the biggest party-pooper on the forum when it comes to spoilers. Here I was, spoilering it up with Gen 5 pictures all over my profile. We all discussed the new region openly. We all discussed the new starters openly. Hell: because the games were released a year earlier in Japan back then than they were in America, when I played the game in 2010 in Japanese while the rest of the forum was just finishing HGSS, I provided a lot of live feed of my gameplay experience! I told people about the gyms I encountered, the characters I met, what the story was like ... I made it all the way to Route 5 (the route west of Nimbasa; that's 5, right?) before I put the game down. No one complained. No one barked at me that I had ruined the game for them. I'm sure I spoiler tagged my stuff, but that's kind of not the point: the point is that the climate in 2010 was very different from what I feel it had become by 2013. We were a lot friendlier towards spoilers back then. And my question is -- was that objectively better, worse, or no different from what we're doing now? Don't get me wrong. At the end of the day I'd like to duck out of SM spoilers right around now. I'm having fun chatting with you guys in this thread, but I was only ever signed up for starter basic form spoilers, box cover legendary spoilers, the region name, the region's IRL inspiration, and the region map. That was it. Well guess what? I got every last one of those things all at once in this month's trailer. I'm done. I'm out. I don't want to be spoiled on anything else. But that doesn't mean that I don't think about whether it's right of me, or Kuno, or anyone else on the forum who is anti-Alola spoilers, to force our wills upon the rest of you who do want to spoiler-talk it up about Alola. Are we ruining people's fun by prohibiting avatars and signatures from having Gen 7 imagery? Are we ruining people's fun by corralling all Gen 7 spoiler discussion into one thread, this thread, instead of allowing them to post one thread per SM discussion topic the way that Reddit, Serebii, and Bulbagarden are doing? Are we weakening or strengthening the community's experience? I told you, I gave it a lot of thought by the end of 2013. Off again, on again, I've given this topic thought for the past three years. I don't have a good answer for you. For me, this is a hard question to solve. It seems like any solution is bound to frustrate people and damage their experience. But I can tell you one thing -- asking me or Kuno to duck out of the forum for two weeks is not a tall order. I mean, I shouldn't speak for Kuno, but I'll call him out right now for being a baby ;P if he can't agree to just ... sit the forum out for a few weeks between Nov 18 and Dec 1 while we play the game at our own pace. Wouldn't that be kinder to the members who want to start gushing about SM instantly the day the games hit the streets? Asking someone to leave for six months, while it's a tall order, even that I have given thought to as to whether or not it's a better solution than prohibiting all spoilery images for six months during the pre-release season. It'd be rather difficult to ask Kuno to leave for six whole months, but is that the (more) ethical thing to do? Leave for the duration of pre-release season and allow the community to gush it up over PokéHawaii in all corners of the forum and not just this thread? It might not be possible for Kuno, but it's certainly possible for me or for empoleon dynamite or for other members who have voted in the SM poll that they would like to avoid spoilers again this year. Should we leave? Or should we stay, and essentially force our will upon a host of members who voted in favor of spoilers?
