Ultimate Pokémon Competition 2008
Better late than never... Yes, it's that time again - to submit an entry for what YOU believe to be your Ideal Pokémon!
Rules 01) If you have won this competition before, you may not enter again. 02) You may submit a previous entry, or you can create something entirely new. 03) You may create a pre-evolution OR an evolution of a current Pokémon if you believe it to be viable. 04) You must submit both normal and shiny pictures of your Ideal Pokémon, and its evolutions if it has any, with its statistics. 05) Sprites are a preferable addition, but not necessary. 06) You must submit a FULL moveset including Gender Ratio (percentage of male to female), Classification, Type, Height, Weight, Evolution Chain if it has one, Ability based on those available in the games, Flavour Text, Egg Group, and a full set of Level Up, Egg, Move Tutor Moves, HMs and TMs. Base Statistics will be a nice addition, but not necessary. 07) When thinking of what you'll need to add, believe you are creating something new for the next generation of Pokémon and make it as detailed as possible. The more you add, the better your entry will be. 08) You may NOT make the Pokémon too powerful. If we believe you're adding too many overpowered moves your entry will be disqualified when they are put to the public vote. 09) If you include any Platinum moves and win the competition, those moves may not be taught to your Ideal Pokémon until Platinum Tutor Moves are introduced to FB. 10) Please be original. No Digimon, Neopet, or other animé copies will be accepted. This is supposed to be your Ideal Pokémon, so be creative. Voting * Entries may be submitted from now and will close on Sunday, November 30. * Entries will be put up for a public vote beginning Monday, December 1. * Voting closes on Monday, December 8. * The winner will be announced either Monday December 8, or Tuesday December 9. Have fun! 2008 Winners! |

The other part is based on guard dogs, thus a guardian canine for ancient tombs. Ankhal's headdress is a stylised version of the real Anubis', while the gold markings on its body is a stylised ankh (the ankh's upside-down drop is the circle around its neck, et cetera). Its shiny colour uses a sand-like shade for the body while the ankh marking is black as it is on some hieroglyphs. IMPERAMID: Imperamid's pose is a poke at the monumental Egyptian Sphinx, while its headdress is "upgraded" to contain elements of pharaoh's headgear. The dark tealish colour of its normal form makes Imperamid seem like a statue or figurine -- the colour of such items placed in tombs, made out of mineral, while its shiny form reuses Ankhal's body colour scheme, suggesting that the guardian statue has regained the sentience of the animal it emulates. The red and white headgear of shiny Imperamid is a reversed combination of the ancient pharaoh crown, symbolising Upper and Lower Egypt combined. STATISTICS: Ankhal came out as a mix between the original dark dogs, Houndour and Poochyena -- between the two in height but leaner and meaner. As a result its height is between the former two but its weight is lower. Imperamid, on the other hand, seemed to emulate Arcanine more, albeit more defensive and slower and not so big. However, it's still capable of transporting humans like Arcanine can. Ankhal's moves range between a mix of damaging and crippling the opponent, portraying its relentless nature towards its opponents. Upon evolution, Imperamid gained mystic powers in the form of hexes and spells, this reflected in its new pseudo-psychic movepool (Psych Up, Trick Room) in addition to its new-found gaiakinetic abilities, plus the Fire-type TMs (which other Rock-types like Rhypherior and Golem get in any case).

I like the idea and design of Carnivine, but I just don’t understand why he floats! So I put a stop to that by grounding him in his pot, this makes him heavier than Carnivine, but a lot slower. I also throw a couple of Mud-based attacks in there to symbolise the soil pot and how that could be manipulated. He’s a fairly large baby Pokémon, because of the size of Carnivine and also to represent his constant growth and large appetite! I chose to enter Ventitch as my entry because I didn’t want to enter a completely new Pokémon, simply because it would be so hard to visualise that Pokémon, even with pictures. So I went with a Prevo. At least with a Prevo/Evo of an existing Pokémon, you have a general understanding of the personality, traits and styles of the Pokémon by looking at the other members of it’s family. Imprice: Imprice is designed after the Cockatrice, a mythological creature that had a serpentine body and avian features that could kill a human either by looking at it to simply kill, or to stare in the eyes to turn to stone. This stone stare feature is shown in the fact that it gets the paralyzing move Glare. Imprice is classified as more of your â€generic bird’ Pokémon, what with the possession of rather blunt base stats geared towards getting in fast and strong hits. The minor draconic ability shows in the knowledge of Twister, and the Pokémon’s movepool is rather small, the natural moveset consisting of a meagre nine moves. As a Normal and Flying type, it remains largely neutral, and as a result of this, Imprice seemed a good idea to use as a basic Pokémon, as it is somewhat large in size, with a length of about six and a half feet in wingspan, large enough to fly around on realistically, if with difficulty. The spirally eye motive continues through the whole evolution chain, and shows mystical confusing properties, as the Cockatrice was a mystical beast. The three serpentine tails are merely the reptilian side of him. Tryvern: Named after the trident and a Wyvern, a serpentlike beast of mythology with similar properties to dragons, sans forearms or legs. Like Imprice, its stats eschew towards being a fast offensive sweeper, but evolution has changed it from a smallish bird to a monstrous snake monster. It has traits similar to the Skeletal Wyverns from RuneScape, but shares none of the looks of said beasts. Dragon and Flying is a clichéd combination, yet its huge mouth brings the whole moveset to life. With his massive jaws, it is loud and devastating in these aspects, but this brings weaknesses in the fact that it’s an open target. Tryvern is a mostly physical Pokémon, yet it possesses breath attacks, like the Skeletal Wyverns, as well as being very, very long and huge. It seems to also share a couple of traits with a few other dragons, such as Salamence, in that it’s closer to an oriental dragon rather than a dragony dragon or European one, which Mence is designed after. Tryvern is the sort of Pokémon you’d expect to be rare and elusive, but not highly spectacular aside from the giantism, but Onix is long as well. Wraithos: Named after the Wraith, a ghostlike figure, and Typhos, a demigod who fought against Zeus in Greek mythology and was defeated when the big guy dropped Mt. Etna on him, this Pokémon is unlike any other out there. For a start, it’s a defensive Pokémon with a complete lack of speed, as shown in the abysmal base 35 Speed, but at the same time it supplements the mediocre physical offense with high-power physical moves, the most notable being Shadow Force, Giratina’s signature move, which is learnable only by the strongest of Wraithos at level 99, to balance it out. I included this move for the reason in the data. Wraithos are thought to be servants of Giratina, being ghostly dragons, and one figured that with the mystical power of the dragon, they can easily go between the realms of the living and dead, though with some difficulty. Wraithos, however, has a massive movepool supplemented for all aspects of life, whether it is a physical set with Dragon Dance, a special set with Nasty Plot or even a supportive movepool with the screens. Wraithos also has forearms, which is where the idea came from. As mentioned before, Skeletal Wyverns are an awesome concept, being skeletal dragons. The lack of bonelike Pokémon made me sad, and one based Wraithos partly off said enemies. With mysterious ghostly energy animating his wings, claws and vertebral tail, which ends in a spearlike symbol, Wraithos indeed seems a skeletal Pokémon. Wraithos is smaller than Tryvern, simply because of the loss of flesh. Visuals and Abilities: The setup of this, from a generic bird to a skeletal dragon, was to see exactly what sort of Pokémon I like. Firstly, all Pokémon have Guts as an ability. While it seems strange, Larvitar and Heracross have Guts as well, and the fact that Wraithos can run a viable physical set with Guts abuse is key to this. Tryvern only has Guts for an ability, as I figured that Intimidate would be making it too much like Salamence, and Imprice has Keen Eye, simply because it won’t cry if sand gets in the eyes. Wraithos has scales, yes, and being a bulky dragon, I figured that statuses can mess it up, so I gave it Marvel Scale, unique to Milotic. The ideology here is that it’s defense, if boosted, allows it to take hits from all around, but hampering it with something like health drain or the inability to attack. The colouring of Imprice is typical of a canary, bright yellow body. The brown beak and legs is in a similar vein to Moltres, which is where much of thecolours for this bird come from. The tails remain green, like the body of Tryvern, while the muddy wings are a rather natural birdy colour. The shiny form is designed to look more like crystal, with the blue body and sandy tails, while the grey legs symbolise stone and the inability to move. Tryvern is simple: A green dragon. Blue claws are a hint towards Salamence, and the brown horns lean towards those found in RuneScape dragons. The wings are set as a translucent golden colour, as though you can see through them. Tryvern’s shiny form follows on to the next stage in dracology in RuneScape: The menacing red dragon. With the blue wings providing the classic Red/Blue and Green/Yellow contrast, the grey horns are a more natural dragon colour, with green claws holding a hint at the shiny Salamence, which is naturally green. Wraithos is interesting. His skeletal parts remain a boney grey, and the body is blue, symbolising the classic picture of a spirit, which many people would perceive as blue, but the red horns and plates emblazoned on the head and back are shown as bloodied, as though it were beaten to death, and the light green is reminiscent of the glow conceived by infra-red cameras, as shown in Most Haunted, as many know, but also of the ghosts we all love in Ghostbusters. Wraithos’ shiny form is simply more spectral appearance, with varying greys in body and mist, as well as a neon glow in the bones to show major possession. Other stuff: The whole symbolism with the Dawn Stone/Reaper Cloth evolution is simple. The two pokemon who are evolved via Dawn Stone, Gallade and Froslass, are fixed genders, that is Male and Female respectively. Dusknoir, who evolves via trade and Reaper Cloth, is a ghost, and in the sense that ghosts are dead, the Reaper Coth would kill Tryvern. However, the Dawn Stone, being the rare evolution item it is ingame and in FB, brings new life in the pokemon, such as Gallade's physical sweeping power and Froslass' spectral ability saving it from fighters, so the Dawn Stone keeps Wraithos alive as a whole. This is a unique evolution form, and also brings forth the fact that Wraithos is incredibly hard to obtain, as well as completing the whole Dawn Stone evolution circuit with a genderless pokemon. I chose genderless because of the fact that Wraithos is very hard to conceive as having a gender, and the breeding groups of Monster and Indeterminate are chosen as it seems unlikely that a monster like Wraithos can breed, and being genderless, it can only do so with Ditto, limiting the movepool, but the wide variety of TMs it learns covers for this, as does the large number of tutor moves. As a Ghost type pokemon, Wraithos was designed to share the body matter of a pokemon like Dusknoir or Sableye, which is that it is solid form, with spectral energy in the limbs holding the bones together, and due to this, it merely has partial resistance to normal and fighting moves that involve contact, such as Brick Break and Body Slam, though it feels the full force of moves like Hyper Beam and Aura Sphere should anything use those moves. Attack: 95 Sp. Defense: 70 Speed: 20 Pre-Creator's Notes: Orbivis: This Pokemon spends most of its time in caves, congregating with others of its kind since it tends to accidentally suck other Pokemon it tries to make friends with into the depths of its body. To evolve, a massive amount of raw materials must be pounded and compressed onto its body. To accomplish this, they constantly suck in minerals from the inside of caves, or in extreme cases can sometimes be seen tumbling down mountain paths. Because they are so heavy, Orbivis move around by altering the gravity around them, since it is difficult for them to control this power, some Orbivis can be seen altering gravity in bursts, in order to "hop" across the ground. Abyvoid: Gaining mastery over the forces churning inside of them, Abyvoid hovers effortlessly in the air, propelling its massive form in whichever direction it pleases. Gravity around Abyvoid tends to be heavier to other Pokemon, making it difficult to move in its presence. This in fact is a defensive measure developed upon evolution, warning other Pokemon not to get too close, or they will be sucked inside its massive arms. The cloak that has formed around Abyvoid is a mysterious material, harder than steel, but it is completely flexible, just like normal cloth. Antimaster: Finally understanding the purpose of their existence, these Pokemon leave their cave, usually traveling to the top of the mountain they were born on to continuously hone their abilities. During mountain expeditions to discover more about this Pokemon, there have been consistent sightings of only a single Antimaster on the top of a mountain at any time. This leads scientists to believe that only one Orbivis in each cave colony will eventually evolve into an Antimaster. The pendant around Antimaster's neck is made of a brand new kind of material, scientists still cannot prove what exactly it is made of, or what purpose it has. Creator's Notes: My girlfriend and I -both- created these guys. And I can't tell you how much I love her for helping me out. I gave her the typing that I wanted (Dark/Steel) and she came home from work that same day with the first sketches of all three on receipt paper! She captured absolutely everything I love about the Dark and Steel types, and even threw in a "mage/sorcerer" kind of look for the final evolution, which I absolutely -adore-. From there, I started coming up with the movesets, abilities, and stats. She and I are both very protective of this little guy, and at first, we felt that its final evolution should edge out Metagross in stats. But, as I looked at it more and more, I felt like that was too overpowered for this contest. After quite a few nerf bat attempts, I finally cut out a lot of Sp. Defense. Originally, I had the whole "Black Hole" motif to say that Special Attacks just get sucked right into the Pokemon, decreasing the amount of damage considerably. But, I instead opted for Special Attacks being more -drawn- to it, thus lower Sp. Defense. Its high attack and defense is basically its immense weight, with an awful speed to go along with that. Due to the fickle nature of black holes, I decided to put HP on the lower side, with Sp. Attack on the higher side. In the end, Antimaster's Base Stats put him -just- above Togekiss, and below Arcanine in the hierarchy, which I felt was much more reasonable, and right below any of the Legendaries. Its moveset keeps with the "Black Hole" motif, with moves like Vacuum Wave, Cosmic Power, Gravity, and ultimately Trick Room. Trick Room was something I thought long and hard about. I've -always- been annoyed that there isn't another Pokemon that can learn it naturally. So, I made one! It fits in perfectly with the "sorcerous" attitude of Antimaster, and the strange and unknown properties of black holes. Note that none of the evolutions can learn Trick Room by TM! It takes long, hard work for even Antimaster to learn it! Other than that, I think that their movesets are pretty balanced. I wanted to make people really think about the moveset they would give their Pokemon, but at the same time, I feel like I've limited it in a way that gives these guys an equal opportunity at being clearly good against some Pokemon, and clearly bad against others. And so, I hope these guys the best for this year's contest! We love you! *waves as they set out to the UPC thread* |

I find this Pokémon the most original, and I love the idea of a black hole powered Pokémon. Its final evolution is amazing also! I'd love to see this Pokémon as part of FB. ^^ |

Even though I'm casting my vote for Shadow, I'm wishing everyone good luck. Let's hope we get some more votes before this is over ^-^. |
