Lunar New Year 2022; Year of the Raikou
"Many blessings, Fizzytopians. We gather here to celebrate the changing of the Year of the Grumpig to Year of the Arcanine rolls in, Today's celebrations will be kicking off with-" KRRAAAACCKKKKKKLELLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ZZZZZZZZZZAP A flash of lightning and the crackle of thunder violently shakes the area as a pokemon appears before the crowd gathered- "Wait... What's this??? RAIKOU???!!!???!!" The said legendary pokemon sparkles with an unusual glow, the normally purple mane sparkles a golden-colored hue... this herald of thunder and storms was shiny! With another roar reigning echoing out the area, A mystical power changed all the decorations from those depicting Arcanine into those that showcase Raikou. Everything in sight changed from red to gold, it was quite a spectacle for all to see! Music played faintly in the distance, causing Raikou to perk its ears over to it and ride off, slow and steady as it jumped over the crowds, but no one person could quite fully make out what the music was nor where it was coming from, in fact, it was quite unusual how this music was playing out and sounded very eerie to all that heard it but altogether it blended well into the following music for celebration that the announcer decided to start back up following Raikou's sudden exit. "Well that was quite unexpected folks, but I suppose we will continue forward with this Year's Celebration with the Year of the Arca- I mean Raikou! ~ Be sure to come forward and grab your gifts! Happy Lunar New Year to all!" “The music was thunder and joy. Lightning bolts of happiness and praise, foot-stomping, dance-shouting, good-feeling singing from the soul.” Trainers may claim the following rewards from this event: * A Red Envelope that contains 500$ * An incense of your Choice ( You MAY NOT claim a Fizzytopian Essence Custom Essence, it has to be one from the mainstream games ) * A Red Paper Lantern ** ( You must craft one of three lanterns with a Pokémon of your choice, with a minimum word count of 200 to gain 5 levels for that specific Pokémon you crafted the lantern with ) **THIS IS OPTIONAL** **Trainers may craft one of three forms of a Chinese paper lantern; Hanging Lanterns, Sky Lanterns, and Floating Lanterns. Red Paper Lanterns were used to scare away beasts that would feast on People and Pokémon alike in times of old, and while these beasts no longer seem to appear anymore, the tradition still remains to scare away bad luck. Rewards from this thread can be claimed up until February 15th 11:59 pm GMT Last edited by Prof.Enigma; 02-08-2022 at 01:36 PM. Reason: Clarification Edit |

Accompanying Raikou's sudden appearance, a large number of colorful eggs have appeared in the fields behind the Hatchery. With their bright colors evoking the same decorations and feelings often seen and felt around this time of year, staff have aptly named these Zodiac Eggs, and are offering one to each Fizzytopian to stop by during the festivities.

The sound of an announcement draws Minerva's attention, though the voice is quickly cut off by a thunderous crackle. The crowd's loud gaping and gawking does nothing to drown out the deafening roar of the brilliant Pokémon that's appeared on the scene - a shiny Raikou, here to spread a bit of festival magic! "AH!" With a scream, Minerva doubles over as electricity surges through her body, her mask and kimono transforming in the same manner as the decorations around her. With the momentary shock dissipating, she admires the golden accents woven into the thread of her newly-golden Raikou attire. Talk about serious alterations... Mr. Nose smells the burned toast. Is angry lady making a bad fortune breakfast? Whirling around, Minerva comes face to face with the one and only Mr. Nose, who motions to his trainer to follow him. Mr. Nose will lead the way to better fortunes. For better breakfasts! Though wary of his intentions, Minerva closely follows Mr. Nose straight to the front of a large crowd, where gifts and lantern-making stations have drawn Fizzytopians from all walks of life. As Minerva gratefully accepts a basket full of gifts, Mr. Nose makes his way over to the lantern station. Placing a rock on the table with a little plastic light attached, he motions over to Minerva, who indulges him by creating a red paper lantern around the rock, and attaching an embroidered red tassel on the bottom of the lantern. She reaches to grab some thread and a hook to hang the lantern (heavy though it was), but Mr. Nose holds up a nubby hand to stop her. Mr. Nose needs no hooks for Sky Lantern! Minerva blinks once, opening her mouth to speak. Before she can explain to Mr. Nose that Sky Lanterns had a very particular construction that required fire - and to not be weighted down by rocks and plastic lights - the lantern begins to float in the air. Floating higher, higher, higher - And Mr. Nose, too, begins to float. Once again, the day is saved! Good fortunes to all noses, big and small! Mr. Nose, awaaaaaaaay! It was quite the mystical spectacle - to watch lantern and Nosepass lifting into the air, seemingly defying gravity... Was this another Festival miracle, like her mysteriously altered attire? The sound of two loud clangs send Minerva back into reality, as she realizes that both the lantern, and Mr. Nose's magnetic nose, were attached to the undersides of two Magnezone, who appear to be part of a massive flock of the species... Attracted by Raikou's electric display, no doubt. For a moment, Minerva considers whether to get Mr. Nose down. But that was the thing about Mr. Nose... his sense of direction was unparalleled, and he could always find his way back home, no matter the situation. Besides, this probably wasn't the first time his magnetic personality attracted more than just a bit of good luck... --- Claiming:
Thank you!!!

Resting after dropping possibly a bit too much money on snacks for herself, Kerry observed the plaza she stood in. Other plazas were dancing mostly, but this one was full of people building paper lamps of some kind. Surely a dangerous endeavour, but as she watched several float off into the night sky, curiosity overcame her as she stepped forwards to give it a shot. She was a mechanic, surely she could make something this simple, right? Some time later... Kerry swore violently as the paper tore again. She missed working with metal, it was a sight more durable. The frame was fairly easy to work with, but when it came to properly encasing it in paper, there was always something poking through or stretching too far. Sighing with a mix of frustration and anger, she left to get more paper, going for blue this time. Blue was always a good colour, and hopefully this one would work. Returning to their spot, she laid the paper down for measurements, before being startled by her frame moving. Slowly, it was being pushed over to the workstation where the paper lay waiting, which in turn struck Kerry with inspiration. Picking up the frame, she went with a slightly different approach of rolling the lantern in the paper, rather than trying to wrap it around the upright frame. And... Surprisingly, it worked. Setting it down, she admired it, before being shocked by the lantern twitching. She'd put in on Dwebble's shell. Laughing as she picked up the lantern and her pebble-dwelling helper, she moved to light the lantern and send it off. Fates unknown awaited, so why bother worrying about it? Claiming: 1 Red Envelope containing $500 1 Galarian Incense 1 Raikou Bell 1 Thunder Ball 1 Zodiac Egg Dwebble grew from level 1 to level 6, and learnt Withdraw and Rock Blast!

Harper Marisol watched the street from a small quiet alcove, notebook out, and watched her friend Lucia walk by, Dashiva the Impidimp looking wildly at every new sound and spectacle. As the small creature turned to her, she waved at him and smiled, pointing at Lucia and crooking her finger, hoping the Impidimp would get his trainer's attention. with the motions, the small grey-green lizard creature in her lap uncurled and stretched, looking up at her with sleepy eyes. "Did you have a good nap, sleepy boy Hartha? I don't know how you can sleep with so much noise but I even heard some snores, huh?" she said, placing her notebook on the box beside her, careful not to roll the egg she had purchased, painted to look like a bright yellow Raikou, off onto the street. Idly scratching the Larvitar's rough scaled back, she watched Lucia weave her way through the throng of people and Pokemon toward her, Dashiva now having climbed down into her arms. The treasure hunter looked at ease and strolled from the crowd with a long, easy stride, bouncing the Pokemon in her arms lightly as smiled at Harper. "hows the festival treating you, Harp? I expected Prof T. to have had you back out in the field by now, what with the new grant money having come in." She said, crouching to let Dashiva down and scratch Hartha under his chin. "We just got here, Cap had us out on a little recon on the outskirts of New Fizz City, sizing up some abandoned warehouse she thinks might have some old tech we could pick up and refurb for some project some of the eggheads over in R&D are working on...Dashiva don't touch what isn't yours, hear?" Harper smiled as the woman scooped the Impidimp up again before he could scramble up the box to investigate the egg and the small paper lantern she and Hartha had made at a stand earlier in the night. Truthfully, the lantern had been constructed almost entirely by her, as Hartha's coordination was still not the best, newly hatched and hasty, but he had picked the colors and held down the seams so the glue would hold. when it had been done, he had been unable to put it down, gently feeling the ribs and ruffles of the red-orange globe. "We're doing well, Lews. just a little tuckered out. We'll probably be heading home soon, as we leave tomorrow for the Ashen Coast. The Professor wants current geological survey data as the lab's archives are a little out of date out that way. If y'all are still fresh, you should try making a lantern! Hartha enjoyed it a lot and Dashiva looks like he's interested. it might be a good bonding experience for you two!" "Heh, we might at that, good looking out, Marisol," Lucia grinned, hoisting Dashiva to her shoulders again and looking back toward the lamp stand at the corner, "good luck out there on the archipelago, we'll see you around!" Lucia waived and made her way back through the crowd. the night was still young, and she was ready for good food, good shows, and good memories made with her Pokemon. A new year, a steady job. Bring on the year of the Raikou. claiming: +5 levels for hartha the larvitar, growing him from l.01 to l.06 1 lucky incense 500 pokedollars 1 red hanging paper lantern Quote:
claiming: 1 raikou bell, then ringing it to gain 5 bond for dashiva the impidimp, raising him from 0 bond to 5 bond 1 thunder ball

So, she and Clair began to work together to create one such lantern. The Espurr looked to be enjoying the experience, gathering red paper and folding it to the best of her ability. It was cute, and the woman helped her little kitten with the folds as necessary. This little moment brought back memories of organizing arts and crafts with the kids. This felt bittersweet, at the very least. With those thoughts in mind, the Kalosian woman decided the course of the lantern they would make. A Floating Lantern; it was something sent from shore to the waves as a way to send off the dead. While those funerals have happened so long ago, she hoped that this would allow her to send them off on her accord. To help ease her burdens, even if it wouldn't clear them entirely. Minutes later the duo managed to finish their Floating Lantern. Lighting the candle within, Star watched as it gently floated around the shrine pond. Yes, this would work perfectly. Once the time was right, and she could go back to Shalour... She would send this off on the waves. For now, though, this was the token of her and Clair's labor. Retrieving the lantern from the pond, she blew out the candle and looked towards her kitten. The psychic cat mewled happily and looked to be reaching up to try and hold the lantern she worked hard on too. With a gentle smile, the woman handed her little kitten the papercraft. Though, she was not expecting the Espurr to soon become enveloped in a white glow on receiving it. Her body began to shift and change... to take on a taller, more elegant form. Star braced herself, the light soon becoming too much to bear. And once it was gone, she looked with a blink of surprise. Before her was Clair, happily holding the lantern, in a new form. Vibrant, fluffy pearl white fur. A fluffy collar of dark blue, as well as a coiled hair tuff the same color. her hands and feet had the same blue, looking like a little lady's gloves and shoes. Not to mention a gorgeously curled tail. Though, her ears looked... folded in? It mattered not, as her yellow eyes were glittering in awe at the craft made. "We did it!" the woman heard, looking around confused before looking at the Mewostic before her. "Wait." the Meowstic looked at her trainer in shock. " You're able to hear my thoughts now?" Star nodded. This, perhaps, was a form of telepathy that the psychic cat had developed. "Well then, Madame... I will be your voice," Clair swore, putting down the Lantern before jumping up into her trainer's arms. With a little nuzzle, the duo looked towards the sky, where various lanterns... and was that a Nosepass???? flying skyward. Star and Clair have crafted a Floating Lantern together! Clair has gained five levels, going from 20 to 25. Clair was evolved into a Meowstic (Female)! Claiming: x1 Luck Incense x1 2022 Red Envelope (Contains $500) x1 Raikou Bell x1 Thunder Ball x1 Zodiac Egg.

Pinch. Tuck...and fold. While many outside were revelling in all the festivities, in a small warehouse a few hundred yards from the outskirts of the celebrations stood one bird, carefully heeding the words spoken by a woman dressed less for the lunar new year and more for the bitter cold of a snowstorm. The white and green avian was currently working with a length of scarlet paper, gently pleating it to the lady's commands, with their wings working with some deftness. Pinch. Tuck...and fold. Paper slowly curled around a slender cage of twig, a ring adorning the top indicating the lantern to be of the sort to hang from a length of rope, or a hook. Pinch. Tuck...and fold. The Dartrix was steadfast in their work, and yet careful in how they approached each section. Another set of folds, and the end was within sight, yet the grass pokemon did not falter, nor rush. Fools rush in where wise men prepare, their master frequently dispensed. Pinch. Tuck...and fold. In a way, this was surprisingly relaxing. No conflict, no reproach, no howling winds and biting snow to endure. The bird completed the step as stated, before patiently awaiting further instructions. "Now then. Crease. A thin strand of glue. Smooth it out...and attach." She watched as the Dartrix, with one of their signature feather quills, softly brushed across one length of the paper, taking great care not to tear it, before using a wing and taloned foot to squeeze the slightest sliver of glue from a tube, drizzling it in a fine line past the crease. Placing the tube of adhesive down carefully on the workbench, the starter then used a plastic scraper to patiently brush across the glue, spreading it across the paper, stopping only a millimetre or so from the crease, before wrapping the paper around the lantern frame, worming around a spoke of the frame and gently connecting with the other side of the sheet. The grass type finished, admiring its handiwork, and gave a curt nod to the woman, awaiting inspection. Several seconds passed as she scrutinised the lantern, every minute detail, before giving a small grunt. Gingerly lifting the lantern up, she carefully placed a small wax candle in the base of the object before placing it down on the table beside her, and giving a quick once over. "...that is acceptable and to the necessary standard. Now then..." she hummed, before gazing up at the warehouse's rafters, with a stern look, as the pair of them took a quick summary of their surroundings. Dozens of lanterns hung from the ceiling and walls, each one just as meticulously crafted as the one sculpted by the Dartrix, albeit with one distinct feature that set them apart from the pokemon's handicraft. Each one of the hanging lanterns in the room bore a large feather quill embedded through them. "...another one hundred and seventy one replacement lanterns to craft." Collecting the following goodies: x1 Red paper envelope with $500 x1 Luck Incense. x1 Red Hanging Lantern, out of 173 crafted through the night by Dartrix, who gains 5 levels from the experience from 34 to 39. x1 Raikou Bell (+5 Bond) x1 Thunder Ball. "That was Raikou, wasn't it?..." "Indeed. And a most special one at that." The gentle voice in his head belonged to Cixi, his devoted - if overprotective - Gardevoir, who had grown to reveal prodigious psychic powers. Ary was never sure how to feel about her: on one hand, he felt secure knowing he had her by his side; but on the other, he always feared she would take her duties too far, if she ever wrongly perceived him to in danger. Cixi could be... overzealous when it came to keeping her Trainer safe. He did his best to focus again on the celebrations, which came easy all things considered. The organizing committee had put on quite the event, and everyone around him seemed to be having a wonderful time. "I supposed we should, too." ~~~~ The red paper laid out before them, pristine and without a single stain or tear, felt both majestic and intimidating at the same time. Impressive, really, considering it was just paper. "No... it's more than that." "It is the tradition of an entire culture, yes?" Ary nodded. By his side, a small Pokemon stared intently at the red paper. Occam the Froakie was one of the few Pokemon the Kalosian had yet to bond with properly, owing to the frog's overbearing pride and sense of self-worth. Not entirely unjustified, considering his skills, but Ary had never imagined even Shingen would prove easier to get along with than Occam. But this was personal to the Water-Type. The art of folding paper was which awakened a latent passion with him, for reasons Occam could not explained. The red sheet called to him, and before Ary could even consider a different, potentially more suitable companion for the task, Occam gently and deftly began folding the red paper with a delicate, expert touch Ary most definitely had not expected. Smiling at the sight, the Trainer dropped to his knees and followed Occam's lead, and before long... "Wow. Occam, this is incredible!..." It really was, for a first attempt. The frog proudly, smugly even, displayed the Red Hanging Lantern, and by the end of it all, Ary was certain he'd grown just a little bit closer to his companion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happy Lunar New Year everyone! ^^ Claiming the following:
*Occam grows from Level 8 to 13!* |

Spoiler: show The Lunar New Year- in recent years, it had become something of a big thing to celebrate in the Fizzytopia region. A great deal many Pokémon Trainers came out to partake in Fizzytopia's celebrations, and the Masterses were no exceptions. Keith and Willa Masters, along with their daughter Maribel, were all present today, but before the celebration could kick off properly, the announcer was interrupted by sudden thunder and lightning, heralding the appearance of a large beast of a Pokémon. "What?!" Keith and Willa exclaimed at once. Maribel dug her Rotom Phone out of her bag and held it up, catching the newcomer's image in the phone's camera. "OK, Rotom- who's that Pokémon?" she asked. "Raikou, the Thunder Pokémon. An Electric-type," said Rotom. "Said to have descended with lightning, it fires Thunderbolts from the rain clouds on its back. Also, this thing's Shiny," it added. "A Shiny Raikou!" Keith breathed. Maribel dug a Quick Ball out of her backpack. "I'm gonna try to catch it," she stated. But before she could so much as start to throw the ball, Raikou had dashed away. But not before one of its roars let loose a strange power. Not even upset at losing her chance at catching a legendary Pokémon, Maribel marveled at what this power did- the decorations depicting Arcanine, for this was supposed to be the Year of the Arcanine, had all changed to depict Raikou instead. "Ooh, wow!" breathed Maribel. "Amazing," Willa murmured. "Yeah," Keith nodded in agreement. "...also, Rotom, I'm impressed- no snarky remarks," Maribel added to her sentient smartphone. "Well, one, I'm not stupid enough to sass a legendary Pokémon," Rotom replied. "Two, Gavin's reaction to this is gonna be priceless enough." "...it really would be," Maribel conceded with a giggle. "Now, Maribel, you're not really going to be antagonizing your Uncle Gavin, are you?" Willa inquired. "Well, how can we just see a Shiny legendary Pokémon and not tell him, Mom?" asked Maribel. "If we know there's a Shiny Raikou running around Fizzytopia, I think Uncle Gavin would like to know about it." "...true enough," conceded Willa. "Agreed," Keith nodded. "So... what do we want to do first?" he asked. "I was thinking I might try my hand at making a paper lantern," said Willa, holding up an Ultra Ball. "Oh, yeah, you're allowed to have a Pokémon help with it, right?" Keith nodded. "Who did you have in mind? Hitmontop?" "I would think Mienfoo," Maribel added thoughtfully. "This seems like something she'd be interested in." "Or Vivillon, even," added Keith, shrugging his shoulders. "All valid ideas, but no, none of them," Willa shook her head. And she threw the Ultra Ball into the air. "Mudkip!" she declared. In a flash of light, the Ultra Ball emptied its occupant out into the open. The Mud Fish Pokémon peered up curiously at Willa. "Muuuud?" he squeaked. Willa smiled. "Mudkip, how would you like to help me make a paper lantern?" she asked. "Kip... Mudkip mud!" Mudkip smiled. He jumped up into Willa's arms, though in the process, sent her stumbling backwards a bit, a fact that did not go unnoticed by said Mudkip. "Kip..." he murmured sheepishly. But Willa smiled reassuringly. "It's quite all right, Mudkip," she said. "Let's get moving, shall we?" And with that, she headed off to fetch the materials they needed. Keith and Maribel followed not far behind, the former pausing for a moment as he witnessed quite the spectacle, as a paper lantern seemingly made using a rock, as well as the Nosepass responsible for creating it, were flying through the air courtesy of a pair of Magnezone. "...Mr. Nose?" Keith murmured in quiet surprise, before continuing onward. It was slow work, making the lantern, and not due to the complexity of the project- Mudkip's attempts at helping seemed to be doing anything but. Invariably, every sheet of red paper Willa attempted to use in the making of the lantern would end up in shreds as a result of the Water-type's attempts to assist. Even when just following Willa's instructions, he continued to underestimate his own strength. It wasn't long before Mudkip found himself standing in a pile of red confetti, looking down in shame. "...Mudkip," Willa said gently after a moment's thought. "Perhaps we're goung about this the wrong way. These lanterns are meant to be special, unique, the result of Trainer and Pokémon collaborating with one another... it is only fitting for the Pokémon's strong points to come into play in this process, and doing it in this way does not play to your strengths at all... I'll be right back," she smiled, leaving Mudkip to watch, slightly bewildered, as Willa went off to get more supplies, but not from the stockpile of good ones. Instead, Willa fished a bunch of hideously misshapen metal frames out of the nearest garbage can, and brought them back over. "All right," stated Willa. "First things first, I dug these out from under a discarded Starboks coffee cup, and, well, it wasn't completely empty." She placed the slightly dirty pieces of metal atop a nearby rock. "Mudkip, use Water Gun," she said. Mudkip brightened up. "Muuuud... KIIIIIP!!" he exclaimed, opening his mouth and spraying the metal frames with a jet of water. This cleaned them off, but had the additional effect of sending them flying- fortunately, Maribel was quick on the uptake, and rushed to catch them as they fell. "Thank you, sweetie," Willa said as Maribel brought them back. "Mud Mudkip?" Mudkip asked, tilting his head as Willa produced a cloth from her bag and proceeded to dry off the metal frames. Willa's slight smile widened a bit. "You see, Mudkip, these metal frames were discarded because they got bent out of shape, and the people and Pokémon working with them hadn't the patience or the strength to fix them. But I know a Pokémon who does," she added. Mudkip's eyes lit up. "Kiiiip!" he exclaimed. Willa nodded. "And so, we will work on this lantern together," she stated. "I will handle the paper, and you will handle the metal frames." Mudkip set straight to work with vigor renewed. His small front legs packed more power than they looked like they did. Bending the metal with considerable Strength, utilizing Rock Smash to hammer out some of the kinks as best he could, and persevering through every mistake, every wrong move, every misstep. And indeed, while the finished product was hardly what one might call perfect, it still looked really good in its own way, and with not a bit of torn paper. "Wow, that looks cool!" smiled Maribel as Willa held up the finished paper lantern for her family to see. "Yeah, you and Mudkip did good on that," Keith nodded. "Mudkip...?" Mudkip murmured, smiling. For once, his great strength came in handy to create, rather than destroy or disrupt. He smiled up at Willa with great admiration, receiving a reassuring smile from the Kalosian Ace Trainer in response. They arrived at the shrine pond, Mudkip carefully carrying the lantern on his back. Willa took the lantern, carefully lit the candle within, set it on the water, and then turned to Mudkip. "All right," she said. "Mudkip, just tap the lantern and set it in motion." "Mud..." murmured Mudkip. He looked at the lantern floating just before him, then down at his front legs. "Kip..." he murmured thoughtfully. He tentatively reached out, and very lightly tapped the lantern, which sent it floating off at a decent speed, though it slowed down quickly enough, and though it rocked a bit, it did not capsize, the flame did not go out, and the paper did not catch fire. As Willa and Mudkip watched the lantern float around the pond, a glow came over Mudkip's body, a glow that stole the attention of the Masterses as a whole. Mudkip reared up on his hind legs and did not go back down on all fours as his torso rapidly changed to work better like that. One tail fin became two, and the front legs grew thicker and more armlike. The head fin changed shape as well, and before Willa knew it, she was looking in surprise at an equally bewildered ! "Shtomp?" the newly-evolved Pokémon exclaimed in surprise, looking at what he now knew to be his arms. Willa, at a loss for words, produced her Pokédex. "Marshtomp, the Mud Fish Pokémon. A Water and Ground-type, and the evolved form of Mudkip," droned the device. "Toughened hind legs enable Marshtomp to stand upright and to have sure footing, even in mud. It travels through mud faster than it swims through water." Willa smiled warmly. "Very well done, Marshtomp," she said. "On both the lantern and the evolution." "Marshtomp!!" Marshtomp exclaimed happily, throwing his arms around Willa... and knocking her to the ground in the process. "Marsht..." he chuckled feebly. But Willa laughed as she hugged Marshtomp back, which put the Water/Ground-type at ease. Even Keith and Maribel started laughing as well, they couldn't help it. And as they went home later on, Willa made sure to take the paper lantern she and Marshtomp had made together, the better to remember this day by. *Obtained ₽500!* *Obtained the Luck Incense!* *Willa obtained the Red Paper Floating Lantern!* *Mudkip was elevated to level 18!* *Mudkip learned Bide!* *Mudkip learned Supersonic!* *Mudkip learned Water Pulse!* *Obtained the Raikou Bell!* *Obtained the Thunder Ball!* *Obtained the Zodiac Egg!* Quote:

By contrast, the couple beside her were here to celebrate the first financially successful year of their startup bakery business, and pray for continued good fortune in the future. Blue and Waffle smiled as they held heart and hand together, followed by their number of children - which had also grown considerably in that timeframe. For this was an occasion to be together with the whole family, to revel in red and reunions. Some of their staff members had tagged along too, eagerly checking out the food stalls as Miru and Kim merrily munched on small sweet rice balls shaped much like the former. Momo likewise shared a tray of dumplings with her new bear buddy Mitsuki (since the season wasn't quite appropriate for mooncakes yet), the latter of which had fashioned cloth covers around her ears like hair buns. (Of course, Makoto had come too, and made a Combeeline straight for the meat buns.) Blueberry had also accessorized a bit as well, attaching twin knotted tassels to her strings for luck. While Waffle was already decked in red, he'd painted some black stripes along the sides of his oven body in ode to this year's special species: the regal Arca- Raikou?! Lightning suddenly exploded in the sky, filling the air with fireworks as over by the diners the dumpling-stuffed Pichu's ears perked and pouches flashed, while Waffle's own static started to run haywire. The god of thunder gave an almighty roar to announce its commanding prescence, granting everything a sheen of gold to match its own shimmering coat before taking off with a graceful leap into the night, vanishing as mysteriously as it arrived... Shaken and awed by the experience, Blue quickly checked to see if her husband was all right, to which he answered he was fine - just a little on the fritz from the excess discharge. Urging him to rest his fried circuits for a while to recover, vice-versa he insisted she and the kids should still go and enjoy the event rather than wait for him. Despite some stubborn protests, they eventually agreed to split up and meet again later in the evening, as Blue accompanied Jess alone until the literal storm in her spouse's stomach settled down. Although he apologized for not being able to participate in activities with her, the Drifloon merely shook her head and planted a kiss on his cheek, promising to bring back plenty of souvenirs. With that, the young ones excitedly went their separate ways to go play games, while the girl and inflatable wandered off down by the river, where previously she came to watch the dragon boat competition. Now rather than racing ships, glowing boxes bobbed like lotus flowers atop the calm water's surface. Guided by the path of lamps lining the bank and hanging from nearby stalls, they came upon a booth that taught how to make their own homemade lanterns. Blue's eyes lit up when she saw the third potential option, and tugged keenly at her trainer's sleeve, who nodded in understanding. The two swiftly set to work gathering the necessary materials, cutting and assembling according to instructions. However, rather than the standard cylindrical shape, the Drifloon decided to take some liberties to put her own spin on the design - fastidiously adding finishing touches with a fitting shade of paint. Once the craft was completed, Blue proudly took the final product back to where her family had designated to gather. As the kids curiously congregated around to inspect the contraption, she showed them how it worked by inviting Patty and Pan to help ignite the fuel source. (While she hesitated towards permitting her son near something so easily flammable at first, she recognized with a mix of nostalgia and parental pride both had matured considerably by now.) The Drifloon then demonstrated by releasing the object alongside several other visitors' simultaneously, conjuring a beautiful dream-like scene as hundreds of fairy lights floated above their heads. As hers expanded to full size, it became easy to pick out from the crowd of typical tubes as it took on the unique image of a Valentine's heart instead. In its center depicted a single golden lightning bolt - resembling an arrow pierced through by Cupid - symbolic of the union between her and the titillated toaster beside, proof of their pure love and devotion to each other. The impressed Rotom-H readily treated his talented wife to an intensely romantic kiss, sparks flying hot between them. Despite having been together for so long, the balloon still blushed deeply as their children both clapped and gagged at such a gushing display of cloyingly public affection. Surrounded by all her friends and family, tears began to form at the corners of Blue's eyes as she realized there was no need to make a wish, for how truly blessed she already was. Overflowing warmth spread through her own soul, inflating to the point she almost felt like she could burst from joy... Jess watched with wonder as Blue's figure enlarged before her eyes, swelling to a full-scale hot air balloon. The blimp blinked as she slowly realized her new form, her companions cheering in congratulations as the jumbo Drifblim jubilantly embraced them all in an emotional group hug - squeezing tightly until the oxygen was almost squished out of all of them. Scooping to carefully collect the entire flightless bundle at once - including even the human - the balloon began to gently lift off the ground, carrying their combined weights with ease as they soared majestically up amongst the stars and flames, flickering softly through filtered scarlet fabric all around them. While her ecstatic offspring snuggled safe and secure against their mother's shelter, Waffle grinned as he utilized his recharged static electricity to add to the aerial display by drawing a portrait of the legendary Pokémon witnessed earlier in the atmosphere, to the amazement and applause of onlookers below. Tracking the specific signal fire created together with her trainer, the dirigible diligently trailed after it; drifting lazily behind across the scenic skies of Fizzytopia, overlooking gorgeous landscapes and vistas on the way. Letting the flow of winds direct their course like a peaceful stream's current... Joining on its journey to wherever it may go - just as she did with Jess so long ago, and never regretted that decision since. Wherever and whenever it landed, they would be there to pick it up and dust off - accept and adopt into their brood to adore and cherish the memory forever - and bring it home. OoC- Claiming: 1x Red Envelope ($500) 1x Odd Incense 1x Heart Shaped Red Sky Lantern (+5 Levels) 1x Raikou Bell (+5 Bond) 1x Thunder Ball 1x Zodiac Egg Giving 1x Heart Shaped Red Sky Lantern to Lv. 40 Drifloon to raise her to Lv. 45, and Evolving her to Drifblim. Spoiler: show Funny that he should set out shortly after New Year’s, only to arrive in Fizzytopia just in time for another one. Twice the festivities, double the fun! Clad in his Dragonite hoodie, Hatchley wades through the sea of gold that lights up the town. He’s completely lost within unrecognizable scenery and not caring a single bit. Every new thing he comes across is a joy to behold, from the parade of spectacular performers to the thunderous music that rings out from the waterfront stage. Every bite of festival food he buys along the way only seems to make room for more, until he ends up with a calorie count to last him into next week! The Year of Raikou... He remembers listening with wonder at Rhinea’s retelling of that story. Of the great tower that burned to ashes, and the three Legendary Pokemon that rose from the dead. Her soothing voice explains it all in his head again: Entei embodies the flames that consumed the tower and all its inhabitants; Suicune embodies the rain that eventually quelled the blaze, and Raikou embodies the lightning that started the fire. Hatchley looks up at an electronic display, looping over a stylized animation of the shiny Thunder Pokemon appearing from a swirl of dark clouds. Symbols for bravery, power, resilience, and exorcism flash across the screen in a portant for the year to come. Courageous Raikou will lend its strength to those who persevere, and seek to drive evil away from the world. Nevermind borrowing its strength, is it possible to even catch one? What kind of Trainer would it take to make a companion of a Pokemon so fearsome and revered? The Trainer chuckles to himself, and keeps walking. Is what he's thinking really any different to how most people react to the idea of training a Pokemon like Salamence or Kommo-o? He already knows what it takes: Passion that burns hotter than magma, and nerves made of tungsten! So what if someone else catches a Raikou? That’ll just make them a worthy adversary for his dragons! Sensing his excitement, the Pokeball on his belt rumbles. Ah, well maybe the Dragon Tamer shouldn’t speak so highly of himself yet. After all, he’s gone all night without even entertaining the idea of letting Prince out of his ball. “Sorry, buddy,” he says, patting down the rowdy sphere, “I really wish I could let you out, but it’s too crowded here.” Not to mention, there are way too many things here that he’d have to pay for, if they got eaten and/or destroyed. He thinks for a moment. There has to be somewhere they can go... Hatchley wanders around the area a bit, poking his head up over the crowds. Everywhere he looks is just more people and Pokemon to deal with, and it’ll only get more cramped as the hour counts down toward the fireworks... He crosses over the arched bridge into the garden area, which has been beautifully decorated for tonight. It’s packed here, too, with all the pavilions filled to the brim with people laughing, dancing and drinking. The aroma of traditional confections and drinks mixes with the natural fragrance of the flowers, creating an atmosphere that’s as joyous as it is intoxicating. Ah, but there, in the corner! Hatchley rushes over to a dark spot where two walls meet, and finds himself all alone inside a small rock garden. The walls are covered in mossy stones that look like mushroom caps, while in the middle, a table made out of white rock is surrounded by pebble stools. Yeesh, no wonder nobody comes to this place. It looks uncomfortable as hell. Still, it will have to do. The Trainer pops open his only Pokeball, and Prince comes streaming out of it in a flash of light. The cooped-up Tyrunt immediately starts running around the little hideaway, jumping on everything that could possibly he jumped on. He tries to gnaw at the scenery, but thankfully it seems he’s not brave enough to try and eat literal rocks. “Alright, good. Everything here is safe from you,” Hatchley chuckles as he sits down cross-legged atop the table. Now that he has a bit of time to just relax, the Trainer decides to open some of the goodies he’d received throughout the night. The young man pulls out the red envelope and looks it over, admiring the beautiful calligraphy which adorned its front. Grabbing the tab and pulling, the broke teen is delighted to see a five-folded fan of 100 Pokedollar bills spring out! Finally, some spending money! As he puts the money away in his Shelgon wallet, Hatchley’s nose is drawn to the smell of something else in his bag. Oh, that’s right. He passed by an incense shop that was giving away blind bags, and caught up in his food bender he just sort of grabbed one, thinking it was take-out. He retrieves said bag from his pack, and upon popping it open he’s hit with the pungent smell of roses. Hatchley recoils, and immediately closes it back up before he ends up choking. Roses are absolutely not his style, but it might make a good gift for someone else, in the future... The next item he retrieves is... a Quick Ball? No, the colors aren’t quite right, this must be one of those special Pokeballs they only have in Fizzytopia. Hatchley admires the rich colors that adorn the ball’s surface, though if its electrifying design is any indication of what type it specializes in catching, he doesn't quite know what to use it on. Lastly, the Trainer pulls out a small box wrapped in a red ribbon. When he opens it up, he looks inside to see a golden bell, along with a kit for constructing paper lanterns. His eyes glitter and gleam when he picks up the bell. It’s practically begging him to shake it, whereupon it produces a deep and rumbling chime! Prince comes running over, his tail wagging with renewed excitement now that there’s something to do besides saunter around and teethe on the weeds. Hatchley looks down at the little guy, watching as he jumps up and down and tries to bite the dangling metal berry out of his fingers. “Hey! Watch those teeth!” he scolds, quickly lifting the bell out of his reach. Surprisingly, Prince seems to obey, plopping down onto his rear and staring up at him, wide-eyed. Hatchley glances between the paper lantern kit and his Pokemon, and an idea creeps its way into his mind. He pulls out a sheet of red paper and holds it up for the Tyrunt to see, “wanna help me make this thing?” Prince responds with an enthusiastic nod... before promptly jumping up and snatching the paper out of his hands to scarf it down whole! “I said make it, not eat it!” Exasperated, Hatchley pulls out a spare sheet, and is vigilant not to let it enter the dino’s reach. He references the instructional pictures printed inside the box. Looks like it should be decorated before you start shaping it... Grabbing a couple bamboo pens from another gift set, Hatchley got to work. He’s not much of an artist, but a simple design should be enough to make this lantern pop, right? After just a few minutes of trying to sketch out a design, Hatchley sighs in frustration and crumples up the paper. He looks around for a trash can to throw it in, since he’s not about to go littering, but it doesn’t seem like there’s one here. “Graah!” Prince cries, his eyes affixed to the ball he’s holding. The Dragon Tamer holds it high, and the little fossil mon cranes its big head up to follow, to the point of nearly stumbling backwards. “You really want this thing, huh? Alright, guess it can’t hurt,” he chuckles. With a slight flick of his wrist, Hatchley tosses it straight into Tyrunt’s mouth, instantly transporting it into the bottomless dimension that is his stomach. The young man grabs another sheet and tries his drawing again. Soon enough, a hail of crumpled-up papers descends upon Prince, giving him a pulpy feast that’s fit for royalty! Yet, for every mistake and dead end, Hatchley sees his drawings improve, little-by-little. Soon enough, he’s getting consistent at the linework he’s going for, and he’s getting further into the coloring stage before he ends up trashing it for a new iteration. He loses track of time completely, until eventually he lands on a drawing that he’s satisfied with! He puts his pens back in the box, this time with a sense of finality instead of fluster, and holds the drawing high above his head for Prince to see. His paper lantern is a battle scene, depicting two Legendary Pokemon facing each-other down in combat. On one side, the courageous and golden Raikou sits atop a swirling cloud of thunder, while from the heavens above descends the writhing, jet black body of awesome Rayquaza! Poised between them is the swirling parts of Yin and Yang, giving the piece a symbolic sense of wholeness. It’s a little roughly-drawn, and not nearly as impressive as the traditional prints he was inspired by, but he’s proud of it regardless! He hasn’t felt this much joy from drawing since he was a kid laid out in front of the TV, sketching his favorite Trainers and their Pokemon during matches and interviews. “Okay! Now we just need to shape it!” he exclaims. Hatchley looks into the box for a pair of scissors or a knife, but the only thing that’s left are the last of his spare sheets and the candles that will go into it. Guess they expected the person making the craft to provide one, but he doesn’t have a pocket knife on him... Well, he does. A whole pair of them, in fact. Hatchley glances between his beautiful artwork and the raptor dancing below him. A part of him doesn’t want to risk it, and yet these crafts were supposed to be an effort between both him and his Pokemon. If he just does everything himself, what’s the point? “Hey, Prince?” he asks. The Tyrunt stops in his tracks, tilting his head side-to-side curiously. “I need your help here. I promise that you’ll get some more to eat... Real food, I mean, not paper. I just need you to lend me your claws for a second.” Prince responds with an affirmative growl, and rolls onto his back! The dino presents his feet to his Trainer, each one lined with sharp talons that could easily cut through his skin like butter. Hatchley already knows what’s going to happen the moment he offers the paper, but... Dammit, if there’s any night to be courageous, it’s tonight! He leans in with the paper, holding it taut between his fingers. He’s ready to let go the moment it starts getting turned into confetti, and yet Prince remains calm and still, only wiggling his tail as he stares at him with excitement in his eyes. Can he actually do this? Hatchley takes a deep breath, and slowly draws the paper along Tyrunt’s claws, nice and steady. He can see their points carve through the paper, creating the finely-cut slits he needs to start shaping the lantern! He can hardly believe it, he got his Pokemon to sit still for ten seconds! “Hahaha, we did it!” he yells, grinning like an idiot as he holds the segmented paper aloft. Prince skips to its feet and starts to celebrate with him, dancing and chirping happily. There’s a bit of drool already forming in the corner of his maw, meaning that his promise of food better be fulfilled quickly, before he makes the same mistake Hatchley made about that Rose Incense... “Okay, okay. I’ll get you some niangao in a sec, just let me finish this-” Following the rest of the instructions, he wraps one end of the paper around and glues it into a tube, before splaying out the accordion-like strips into a spherical shape. A few bamboo rods go into the center to help it keep structure, as well as providing a cradle for the candle that’s to go inside. Once he has it all assembled, Hatchley places it atop the table, and admires their creation. It is certainly rudimentary, and probably a little bit embarrassing for a 19-year-old, but he doesn’t care. He and Prince made this. The first thing they’ve ever made together, instead of destroyed. He leans in with a lighter, and carefully lights the candle inside. The whole lantern begins to glow with a flickering amber light that slightly bleeds through the paper, giving life to the art printed upon it. If he knew any of the characters, he certainly would’ve added a few, but that probably would’ve required another kit’s-worth of paper. Hatchley picks the sky lantern up gingerly, already feeling the lift that the hot air is generating. Looking up to the sky, he sees the hundreds of motes of light that have already been let loose over the city. Wanting his and Prince’s creation to join them, he raises the lantern above his head, and lets his fingers fall away... “Hey, Prince?” he says, still watching the lantern slowly drift off toward the heavens, “I know I’m kind-of bad at this whole training thing, but I’m glad I have you.” He turns to give his Pokemon a grateful smile, only to see the space beneath him empty. The sound of growling catches his ear, directing his eyes up to the rocks above him. There, he sees the silhouette of his Tyrunt standing against the moon, legs coiled up and ready to jump toward the rising lantern! The Trainer’s eyes dilate in fear, and before he can reach for his Pokeball, the Rock-type takes off like a rocket! Jaws lock open, and the jurassic missile expertly snipes the lantern mid-flight, destroying both it and his precious artwork in an instant. "PRINCE! STOP! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" *Claiming $500!* *Claiming a Rose Incense!* *Claiming a Thunder Ball!* *Claiming a Zodiac Egg!* *Claiming a Raikou Bell and using it on Prince!* *Prince gained 5 Bond!* *Prince rose to Level 6!*

Picking a Wave Incense, and using the raikou bell on neko the espeon. The Year of The Raikou. Crazy how life flew by - it was already a new year. Danny chuckled to himself as he traversed the city square, Lucha mewling at his feet contentedly, moving like a serpent through the legs of the people walking by. "Come on, let's pick up the pace, we need to get to the lantern-making stand before its too late, that's what you wanted, right?" Danny was talking to the cat that was at his feet, who nodded vigorously, pointed its nose to the sky, sniffed, its whiskers crinkling, then it shot off in a direction, Danny jogging to catch up. "When I said pick up the pace.." he panted. "I didn't mean pick it up this much!" The two came to a stop at the aforementioned lantern shop, where trainers sat about, with their Pokemon, crafting lanterns and having a jolly old time. "Alright, let's start." Danny received a kit from a kindly man at the counter. He sat down and patiently snipped delicately with a pair of scissors, while Lucha, excitedly, slashed up the paper into strips, careful to not mess it up. Once they had enough strips Danny set them up into a nice round shape, and Torracat, holding the glue bottle in its two paws, glued the shape together, making a hollow ball. "Now, paint!" Danny dipped the wooden paintbrush in his hand in the inkwell, and artfully, painted the Chinese character for tiger, 虎, onto the lantern. Torracat breathed out some heat, drying it quickly. The two laid back, admiring their creation. "Now, let's set it into the sky!" Danny had a novel idea, a lantern hot air balloon. To execute his contraption, he cut open a hole in the bottom, and then got a candle, and used some strong twine to tie the candle underneath the hole in the lantern. Torracat lit the candle with a single touch of the claw, and the lantern slowly soared into the sky above. The two bowed their heads in silent, thankful prayer. When Danny looked up, Lucha wasn't a Torracat anymore. In a great blaze, the Pokemon had evolved, and was now the towering form of a glorious Incineroar. *Lucha grew from level 29 to level 34!* What? Lucha is evolving! ... ... ...! Congratulations! Your Lucha evolved into Incineroar!

"It's official, festival food is dangerous. I can't get enough of these rice balls!" Catharine said between mouthfuls. "I have to find a recipe for these things." she added. "These steamed fish are sooooo tasty!" Clarisse said, licking her paws between bites to savor the taste as much as possible. "Thank you for getting it for me." the Teddiursa added. "It's my pleasure. Just remember, it is a Sinnovan tradition to pick the bones clean, then set them back in the water." Catharine said, patting the small bear Pokemon on the head. "Right! I don't think I'd want to leave anything on the bones anyway, it all tastes so good!" Clarisse replied, plucking the last few stray bits off the bones of her current meal and eating them to drive the point home. "You can say that again, I can smell it." Catharine remarked, with an easy smile towards her partner. "You know what, though, let's see about the other gifts on offer before we eat too much more. Give our stomachs the chance to settle. Do you want me to bring you to the water for your bones?" Catharine asked, betraying her utter hypocrisy by biting into her last rice ball. "I suppose...it is getting late, anyway." Clarisse relented, lapping up the very last bits and pieces left, cradling the leftover bones gently in her paws as she followed Catharine to the nearby river. Once they were there, Clarisse slowly let the bones down into the water. "Thank you for the meal." Clarisse said softly as the bones drifted away downstream, until they were no longer visible. Once the pair were done, the pair returned to the main throng of the festivities. Catharine simply placed many of the gifts in her bag, though she very carefully wrapped up the Luck Incense given to her-it would make an excellent gift for Fortuna, and she didn't want anything to spoil it. When she was given the kit to craft the paper lantern, however, her eyes lit up. "I know just what to draw on it!" Catharine said, finding the nearest table. It was hardly empty, a number of other festival goers and their families stretched down either end, but Catharine began working with such a single-minded focus that she was practically oblivious to any distraction they might have been. Her planned design sought to be something uniquely from her homeland, while still paying tribute to the festival's surprise visitor. Once upon a time, after all, the great Raikou, as well as his kin, had fallen into the hands of Cipher and been made into Shadow Pokemon, during their first appearance in Orre. And unlike the mysterious preternatural effect responsible for the presence of Shadow Pokemon in Fizzytopia, Cipher's Shadow Pokemon had all been the result of unspeakable cruelty. But all that time ago, someone had rescued and purified the Great Raikou, as well as his kin, before setting them all free-as gods of the open road, their savior had felt it wrong to keep them for himself. Soon, with a little bit of Clarisse's help, the lantern was fully complete. On one side, a stylized depiction of Raikou showed the beast engulfed in shadow and enraged. As one went around the lantern, though, be it to the left or the right, a solitary figure was shown with the Shadow Raikou, before finally, on the far side, a purified Raikou stood proudly beneath an image of Celebi, the Time Travel Pokemon. Catharine hurriedly brought the lantern to be hung along with so many others that had been made, heart swelling with pride as it was given its place among the eaves. Still, once they were finished, as Catharine graciously accepted a mysterious red and gold Zodiac Egg, she just couldn't help herself, and looked down at Clarisse. "...you want some more rice balls? Because I sure do!" Catharine said with a slight grin. "Is Raikou an Electric-type?" Clarisse responded, with a smile to match. "Then it's decided. And I'll see if I can't get my hands on a recipe..." Catharine said. It would be a pleasant surprise for any guests she might have later. (OOC: Claiming: x1 Red Envelope! +$500! x1 Luck Incense Made x1 "The Purification of Raikou" Hanging Lantern! Clarisse was elevated to Level 25! x1 Raikou Bell x1 Thunder Ball x1 Zodiac Egg Thank you for the fun event!)

Raikou, the Thunder Pokemon. One of three creatures said to have perished in a fire that engulfed a famous tower of the Johto region, Raikou is believed to have been reborn as an embodiment of the very lightning that struck the tower down. Its roar carries a sonic blast that causes a wide area around it to tremble and quake as if a clap of thunder had traveled through. The mane traveling down its back is theorized to be a set of rain clouds attached to its body, allowing it to control where any bolt of lightning can strike. He didn't have much time to admire beyond the Pokedex entry before the golden Raikou bounded away and allowed everyone to continue their celebration, this time for the Year of the Raikou! As part of it, he would be crafting a paper lantern, and he was asked to have one of his Pokemon assist him in some way to do so. To that end, it was time to bring out his partner of choice. "Come on out, Diego!" he said, opening up a Premier Ball to reveal a small feline with a mostly black body and orange stripes to go along with the orange on the lower part of his face, the Litten mostly watching as his trainer did most of the work crafting the basic paper lantern before he turned to him. "Okay Diego, you've got the most important part: it's time to decorate the lantern! And you'll be doing it using your claws so we can get some nice Raikou themed stripes on it! Think you can do it?" "Lit lit!" Diego nodded before extending his claws, running in for a Scratch attack that neatly shredded through the paper. "Oh, uh... that wasn't.. quite what I was going for," Hyrem nervously stated as he worked to replace the paper. "Try gently scraping your claws against it, otherwise the paper is too delicate and will break! Maybe you can heat up your claws a little too?" "Lit!" Diego nods again as he spit a small gout of flame on his claws, making them just hot enough to sear whatever they touched, though even touching the paper would cause it to ignite... instead, he brought his claws close to the paper, the nearby heat turning the paper brown, then a near charcoal black as he slowly moved his claws, having spread them out so they formed a neat striped pattern. Then he would do the same to the other sides of the lantern until they were all showing the stripes he drew. "Great work!" praised his trainer. "Now we can let it float into the sky; light up the inside with an Ember!" Another tiny gout of flame was spit out of Diego's mouth before it lit up and started to float upward. "I guess it's good to go; we did it!" Hyrem would go to hug his Pokemon, but he soon found himself blinded by a familiar light engulfing the Litten. "...Diego?" he asked, shielding his eyes before stepping back to allow him the space to grow into a new form. A bigger form, and a more defined one at that, particularly towards the front, his whiskers growing out, his front claws much more visible now before he stopped glowing, save for a little ball in front of his neck. "Well, I guess you really wanted to celebrate the new year in your own way, huh?" Hyrem conjectured before opening his Pokedex once more: Torracat, the Fire Cat Pokemon, and the evolved form of Litten. Torracat's front legs have developed such that a single swipe of its paw can topple a beam of iron used in construction. It can be difficult to raise because too close of a bond may cause it to act spoiled and grow too attached to its trainer. Its fur standing up or laying flat determines if it is in a good or bad mood. The bell on its neck bears a flame that burns more intensely depending on how excited the Pokemon is in combat. "Wow, who would have thought you had an evolution saved up for this event? Congratulations!" he said after reading the Pokedex entry. "Torraaaaaa~!" Diego roared triumphantly, letting loose a Fire Spin in his excitement. "Oh, no Diego, wait-" Hyrem was too late to stop the swirl of flames from engulfing the Floating Lantern and reducing it to a burning pile of paper and wood on the ground. He sighed dejectedly and slumped to the floor while the newly evolved Torracat looked at him confused. "Oh well, I guess we can just make another, can't we?" ********** Claim: Red Envelope Wave Incense Floating Red Paper Lantern Raikou Bell Thunder Ball Zodiac Egg Use: Floating Red Paper Lantern on Torracat Level Up! "Okay, Meowth, you and I are going to build a nice lantern," PJ said to the small cat Pokemon he had brought along to the festival. Being The Year of the Raikou, he'd thought it fitting to bring his own cat to the celebration, and do this little activity with her. "Nyar?" she cried out inquisitively. "Oh, you're not familiar with the lanterns?" PJ responded. "We cut and fold paper to create a nice little lantern. I really like the ones that float. You put a candle in them, and I think it's the flame's heat that makes it able to float away. I think. I don't really understand, if I'll be honest. But I know they're pretty, and they're fun to make. If you follow my directions, you and I can make a nice lantern together. Would you like to?" "Nya!" she responded, nodding her head. PJ grabbed some paper and walked over to a flat surface to work on, her plodding on all fours behind him. "That's my girl. So, I'm going to need you to use your claws to make the cuts needed. I've seen how you use them, and I know your Technical skill is very good. So be careful, and Scratch there... and there... and there. Okay, now we do some folding". The lantern really started to come together with the two's teamwork. Finally, the pair were done. The Floating Lantern was a little crude, folded mostly by PJ's young, unskilled hands, but the cuts were clean and, after testing it with a candle, they found it did float just like they wanted it to. The clumsiness just added character. PJ's as of yet unnamed Kantonian Meowth grew from level 4 to Level 9! Last edited by Slash; 02-15-2022 at 08:28 AM. |

Spoiler: show “Whoa, did you catch that?” The air tingled with electricity as Raikou departed as suddenly as they appeared. The collective breath held by the crowd sighed as the celebrations resumed. Traditional music blared from loudspeakers on stage, an abrupt transition from the eerie tune in the distance that was drowned out by the host’s swift recovery from the surprise. Fizzytopia’s annual Lunar New Year celebration was going strong, and it seemed to be going great if Elijah’s team—which he had let out to enjoy the festivities (he wasn’t really fond of keeping them confined to their balls all the time)—had anything to say about it. “Nope,” Ion, Elijah’s Rotom, responded from inside his phone. “Definitely caught something about Raikou, though. Feels like Raikou, too. Dunno if it’s just me, though.” “Dang, that thing looked powerful, though. I would’ve loved to see what was up with it,” Elijah lamented. “You think we might be able to see another one someday?” “Bro, it’s Raikou, I don’t think there is another one. I’d be shocked if there was.” “Whatever,” Elijah sighed, then turned to a nearby table. “Hey, it looks like they’re making lanterns over there. You think you’re up for that?” He asked Ion, pointing towards the table. Ion hesitated for a moment before their eyes widened. “You bet, I just had the best idea in the history of ever. You know how I can understand Epoch?” “You can what—” “Trust me on this one. We’re going to build the perfect lantern.” ——— “Seventy-two?” “No, it’s seventy-five, I think.” Elijah penciled a mark about 75 inches from the left side of the scarlet paper sheet, sliding a ruler along its edge to make sure, then cut it with a pair of scissors, taking care to keep it as straight as possible. It wasn’t enough, however; he offhandedly lamented the complete lack of bonafide paper cutters on site as he stared at the jagged edge of the cut, hoping that he could somehow hide it when the final lantern came together. Next was the corrugation; he’d need to keep everything even, so he turned to Ion to answers. “Okay, how far down do I have to fold this?” Elijah asked. Epoch, his Porygon, responded with a sequence of beeps. “Epoch says twenty-two centimeters,” Ion translated. “...Centimeters?” He stared at the paper, eyes wide. Centimeters. In his fervor to make sure that everything followed Epoch’s instructions to the letter, he’d completely forgotten about the fact that Fizzytopians measured everything in meters and centimeters compared to the Unovan system of feet and inches that was much more familiar to him. Sighing, he dropped the pencil that he was holding, mildly wincing as it clacked on the table. “Uh, about that, I think we gotta start over.” “Seriously, bro? This is the third time that you’ve screwed this up. Guess we’re taking things from the top again, hold on—” Apparently Thorn had begged to differ, jumping on the table before Elijah and Ion could restart the project. The Fomantis sliced off the awkwardly cut end of the paper just enough so that it was straight, then lightly cut the paper crosswise to the point that there were about twenty small indentations running its length. It didn't take long for Elijah to catch on, proceeding to accordion-fold the paper across each of the indentations until he was left with a reasonably sized corrugated sheet. “Hey, guess we can call off the whole starting over thing,” he said as he got to work on a wiry metal frame, measuring it by eye (and an occasional furtive glance at the others also making their own lanterns). “...Sure,” Ion responded dejectedly. It wasn’t too hard to figure out why. “Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Elijah responded, looking up from the frame that he constructed, leaving Thorn to wrap the paper around it. “I wanted it to be perfect too, but I think we’re getting a lot further by just winging it. Why don’t we do things the wrong way?” Ion stared for a brief moment. “’Kay, I’m sold,” they eventually stated after seeing the progress that both Elijah and Thorn were making. ——— “Y’know what, that looks fuzzin’ dope. Dunno what I was thinking earlier.” Ion was right: after half an hour of labor from Elijah and Thorn, their lantern looked just shy of spectacular; while there were a lot of oddities coming from their inexperience with the craft, they would be hard-pressed to try to distinguish it from all of the other lanterns being made. They even went as far as hanging a red envelope from its bottom; Elijah wasn’t quite sure what it was for but he saw everyone else doing it so it was probably a good idea to throw it in as well. “Told ya,” Elijah responded with a grin as he admired his handiwork. “Now all we need to do is light this thing up, hang it somewhere, and go see what they’re offering over at the front.” He stared at his team expectantly. The Fomantis, Rotom, and Porygon stared back. “...I’ll go see if anyone has a lighter.”
