If nothing else, these results show just how much Americans hate Hillary Clinton.

And Paul Ryan wins re-election, because as foretold in Revelations evil shall rule the Earth until the days of judgement.

As my Facebook friend said, I can't wait to feel like a second class citizen again, and that's to say nothing about the minorities he actively disparaged.

So what is it? He catered directly to one group of people: the white working class. Read that article, it hits the nail precisely. It's a group of people who feel like they are being left behind by the rest of the country. Be it economically by manufacturing jobs leaving the US (and they're not coming back), or culturally as multiculturalism and cosmopolitanism was embraced, and they were ignored. People who felt their way of life was not only being eroded, but rejected. In their defense, they weren't wrong. And in comes The Donald. Who tells them that what's going on isn't their fault. They don't need to change. It's the fault of the government. Of the establishment. Of immigrants. Of foreign countries. Of minorities. And, of course, Hillary Clinton just so happens to represent every single one of these things. Trump told them precisely what they wanted to hear, and when that's happening, you'll overlook other things. You won't look too critically at them. This isn't a condemnation specific to that group. It's a wider human flaw. Bernie was similarly guilty, if less bigoted. The policies may be skin deep, and impractical. But who cares about practicality when it's a fantasy? |

I'm actually trying not to throw up. Or cry. Or get drunk and do things I would regret.
We're going to have Trump as a president. We're going to have a Republican congress. Our next SC justice will be conservative. Social conservatism has won. I don't feel safe anymore. I know people on this forum, on UPN, who are afraid to go outside tomorrow. Right now I'm watching CNN and I'm listening to every single tried and true Trump supporter talk. They talk that Trump speaks for all of us. He doesn't speak for me. It's like reading a Shuckle post. They think that he is going to unite the country. Ye, My sense is humor is trying desperately not to break down.

This is so awesome. HRC will go down as one of the worst politicians in the history of the nation, and she has to live with this.
Sorry to all of you who are not happy with the results. Seriously.

Bush/Cheney started huge wars, plural, had actual gripes with abortion and gay marriage, and were the worst kind of conspiratorial neo-cons. My sincere hope is that people here are pleasantly surprised.

I'm sure you'll survive it alright, the question is how you come out of it. If a truly Republican agenda will be pushed through, it will leave the US a lot worse off in terms of social issues, and possibly also economically. And not to mention the world in terms of climate change, which most certainly is not a Chinese hoax...

This is probably one of the most complex American political elections/climates in recent history; I have no doubt in my mind that both parties are going to analyze the circumstances intensely and reformat. Even if by some .01% chance miracle the election swings the other way, it still has highlighted some dramatic failures in both party establishments. One way or the other, change is coming. To be honest, I'm more interested to see how the parties reshape during this next four year term than what actually happens (let's face it, despite a Republican majority, things that are completely batshit crazy are likely to be smited down pretty quickly; the entirety of the GOP is not stupid.) I'm admittedly concerned about the Supreme Court, but I'll worry about that in a few months.

This just in, Hillary has conceded the election. There will be no recounts. Donald J. Trump will be the 45th president of the U.S.

As for the bolded: Yes we should. We absolutely should. Great chance to get some actual innovation going before it's too late to reverse the bad effects of the enhanced climate change in time. And besides, we as Western countries have been putting tons of CO2 and what not into the air for decades, and now emerging economies start doing it because they enter an industrialization we've long since had, and we now say they can't do it? That's imho very hypocritical and selfish. What we should do is INNOVATE and then sell our innovations to China and whatever other industrializing country so they can benefit from it too for clean air. I bet you Beijing and Shanghai will be very interested. And also, people should remember that we're not destroying the planet. What we're destroying is a planet we can live on as humans. So every bit we can do helps, and thus if China and India say they first want to be at our level, than we have to be front-runners in green innovations and help those countries develop to where they want to be in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. Trump was surprisingly gracious in his acceptance speech with very little of his ego leaking through, thanking Hillary for her service and hard fought campaign, and asking for advice from everyone who did not support him throughout his campaign so that he can be a proper President for all of the United States, not just those that got him there. I'm honestly a bit taken aback by the entirety of said speech, and hope that we are pleasantly surprised and he follows through with what he said up on the podium. And if not, well, the country has been through worse and we'll tough it out for four years.

Donald Trump should write a book. It would be titled,
"How do you overshadow the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, ending the most infamous championship drought in sports history, a week after it happens?" I've watched the polls (and read this thread) since the tallies started and had a party all to myself at a local restaurant. I had a blast, and I am stoked for tomorrow where I am going to be one rich futhermucker. I've got OVER $9,000 to blow on pretty much anything. It's going to be glorious. Like everyone else, I didn't expect Trump to win, but as FiveThirtyEight cautioned, the possibility of Trump outperforming his polling numbers given the documented difficulty in gauging opinions of the rural midwest, meant that there was a high volatility in the numbers despite Clinton's projected win. Is this more impressive than Dewey defeats Truman? Yes, because we have modern polling methods and a more advanced understanding of politics. I don't want to call Trump a genius - especially after the fact, and bemoaning his behaviour multiple times, it makes me look like an arsehole - but he doubled down on the white, uneducated crowd, like what Sneasel says, rather than doing what Romney did and trying to reach out to every corner of the base. Trump also benefited from a lot of factors outside his control, like the selection of Hillary (probably the best serious candidate he could ever hope to go against), the maggot infighting that plagued the corpse of the Republican Party following the 2012 presidential election, and international specters like the Islamic State. Yet, the biggest one of all might have been Scalia's death. Because in dying, Scalia stirred fears among religious conservatives about Supreme Court mandated social change. They had seen Harry Blackmun initiate such before and consider the president secondary in power to what the courts can accomplish on that front. Trump promising to elect a social conservative, and publishing a list of his candidates, got the evangelicals to rally around him in a way Romney (HIMSELF a social conservative) couldn't get. Trump ended up uniting the Republican Party in the end, getting full support not only from Also, according to 538 (armchair numbers) Trump pulled support something like 35% from Hispanics, and 38% from college educated women. If you're Hillary, those are depressing numbers considering Trump's entire campaign and personality scapegoated those two groups. HRC also pulled 88% blacks to Obama's 93%, and you can assume more than just hardcore black Republicans were voting Obama. I think a humour factor played a big role in making Springtime for The Donald and GOP a runaway smash hit. What Trump did is hilarious if you assume it's satire. I wonder how many white un-educated guys heard the lewd comments and, rather than be offended, took it as advice. For an entertainer, making the audience laugh is critical. By contrast Hillary is was as un-funny as humanely possible. Also, speaking from pure male instinct, a president's sex comes into play only when she's physically attractive. Natalia Poklonskaya? She's cute, would elect. Hillary? She was cute once, but isn't anymore, and has a rotten personality to go along with her high intelligence and vast political experience. When I'm looking past the physical appearance and evaluating personality/intelligence/experience, surprise, I'm not really considering sex as a balancing factor on election. Some guys might even make it a negative, i.e. they'd vote Megyn Kelly but not an old bat like HRC. Anyway, maybe sleep? I am high on caffeine yo. AMA.
