This forum is for discussion of all anime, not just the Pokémon anime. Keep that in mind when writing future threads. I would have had no idea what on Earth you were wanting to talk about had you not mentioned "ashs voice" since this told me not only you were wanting to discuss Pokemon but that you were wanting to discuss the English-language dub.

I don't watch the English-language dub, but from what little I have seen of the newer episodes in English, I think that the new voice for Ash sounds more like a boy and a lot less nasal than the old voice, so I guess I'd say I'm in favor of it. And this is from somebody who grew up with the original: as in, I started watching the show with "Battle Aboard the St. Anne" the very first time it aired in the USA back in September 1998. So it's not like someone can say, "Well you just didn't grow up with it! " Yeah, yeah I did.

The more important thing for me, as somebody who got back into the show with Season 12 and is now watching Season 13, is the change in the characters' faces. The Pokémon anime's budget had really improved in between Johto and Hoenn, and it improved yet again in between Hoenn and Sinnoh. When I jumped back into things in Sinnoh, I was pleased and surprised to see the Ash from my childhood looking very well drawn. Particularly his eyes, which retained their characteristic design from Season 1 but now had some additional tones added into them. Well, fast forward to BW001, and it's Terrible City. The Pokémon and their attacks all still look top-notch, but the animation for the people has gotten terrible. I don't think it's looked this poor since b/t Seasons 5 and 6 (Johto-to-Hoenn transition). I don't know if the new faces are just because they wanted to try a new style (IT'S TERRIBLE ) or if there's a more cynical but accurate reason like them having less of a budget to work with, or something. But regardless, the BW anime faces are godawful.

When I started watching Pokemon I wasn't really concerned with the animation or art quality, but I can say I don't like how the anime looks now. It is very "plastic", with characters looking so glossy one gets the impression they've been laminated. I've seen this before in some anime where a girl's thighs have some odd colour that makes them look like a Barbie doll's. For me, the whole Pokemon anime has looked like that since mid-Hoenn.

Some has claimed the BW anime has a consistent narrative rivaling the original, but I can't bring myself to watch the show with so many different VAs from the 4Kids anime. Not to mention it's a product of a company I don't really have any affection for (Pokemon USA).

I used to watch the show religiously but stopped once I got older. It quickly stopped having any sort of plot and each episode was a "lets show off this Pokemon" thing. I was young so I put up with it for much longer than I should have.

Also the voice changing really annoyed me.

You grow used to a certain voice associated with a certain character. When it changes, even if it is for the better, it can bug you. So even if the new VA is better, people will dislike it. Like myself. lol.

I couldn't listen to the new VAs, so I quit right around then. I'll occasionally watch a Japanese ep with subs, but the new voices are just decidedly "not Ash" in my mind, and I don't think I'll be able to get over that. Hell, that's why I haven't really watched the fourth season of Ranma 1/2. My mind says "You are not Ranma, you are Inuyasha, stop that."

What's funny about that is Ranma and InuYasha have the same CV in the Japanese dub (Kappei Yamaguchi), but it didn't work out in English.

Badges are a post count thing. Some boards give user ranks based on the post count, but we decided it'd be cool to have Pokémon badges instead. No one's yet earned the Earth Badge, though iirc Jerichi and I are pretty close to getting it.

I think it's kind of funny you say that considering almost everyone who was in the Fandom then complained a ton when the VAs got changed. I really don't blame them considering the only one that even stayed roughly the same was Jesse's, and hers was the least essential of the bunch.

And it's a little weird to me to see 13 year olds on this forum or at all really but hey, that's how we keep the series alive. Welcome.

Jeri and the others are used to having mostly people their age around- 18+, in other words. Other than Jeri. He's permenantly 13.

I really don't get what they did with the eyes in B/W. I mean, the attack animations have just gotten better and better (have you SEEN Iron Tail?!), but the people... eww.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. The moves still look great, but the faces went from best budget the series has ever known (in DPP) to something truly embarrassingly low-grade.

Every once in a while, they get it right. Like ... here's a close-up glimpse of Ash's new eyes in BW Episode 013. They look pretty good! Sure, they're not the original design, but they're close and they're not bad at all!

But then they revert to drawings like this. -.- And you're like, "Really? Really, guys? This is how we're going to be drawing frowny faces from now on?"

Still, I'm loving the BW anime so far. (Through episode 13.)

Someone on Arlong Park's IRC said it was the best anime season since Indigo (comparable to YGO 5D's), so do give a review of this! Are you watching it dubbed or subbed? I am insanely curious, after 5D's injected new life into the YGO franchise I'm very receptive to giving the Pokemon anime another chance.

I'm sure if you've watched a lot of Pokemon anime that the faces often look goofy in mid-animation. I think it shows how light-hearted and comedic its supposed to be, as opposed to more serious anime. Check out the other two stills for that scene here and she looks just fine.

I've been watching BW subs in my spare time and I have to say this is the first time I've enjoyed the anime since the origional series. They've really put effort into the Pokemon's personalities. The episode with Bell/Bianca, the episode with Dent's rival Cabernet (BW19?) and the episode with the three duck Pokemon (BW20?) are actually laugh out loud hilarious. The chemistry within the group is so much better than DP, where Brock and Dawn's interactions were virtually nonexistent.

Seconding this- Lately, I've only been watching for things to use in the PASBL.
