"So...unsuccessful?" Melissa asked, glancing around the field as though she could see the layout through the garden. Fletchling twittered, tilting her head to one side, and Melissa raised her eyebrows. "Oh? Well, that's not too bad then. Probably would've been a good idea to use some Agility on your getaway, but live and learn, right?" Melissa shrugged with a crooked grin. Glancing up at the sky, she said, "You know, I think I've finally thought up a proper name for you." Melissa looked at her Fletchling. "How do you like the sound of Zephyr?" Fletchling turned to look at her own wings and then back up at Melissa with an amused chirp. "Well, it's appropriate, isn't it?" Her Fletchling tilted her head to one side, considered, and chirped agreeably. "Glad you think so." Melissa smiled. "Now, let's see how we do with only Hiero left." Quote:
Zephyr grew from level 22 to 24. The Pokémon troupe left the gazebo to cheers and one of the other gardeners stepped up to the microphone to announce that the next event would be starting momentarily. Melissa returned Zephyr and settled in to watch the entertainment. Quote:
What falls on the water and never gets wet?Her first thought was leaves or flower petals, but they would probably still get wet. Technically. So...the riddle-answer would probably be...shadows. Which meant...she should probably look for some kind of pond or water feature. Melissa followed the sign pointing towards the Waterlily Display, which, if the name was accurate, would mean her next clue could be any number of shadows over there. Pulling a different Pokéball off her belt, she released her Snivy, who shook from head to tail as he materialized. Looking up at her, Vine tilted his head to one side expectantly. "Scavenger hunt. We got one clue; we gotta look for the rest," Melissa explained, showing him the clue. Vine flicked his tail as he read it and then raised a brow at her. "I think it's a shadow. Or maybe light, now that I think about it, but let's take a look around, huh?" Vine hummed his agreement and glanced around pointedly. "Hmm. Split up and look for anything that might be a clue?" Vine nodded and darted off to begin his search, taking the farther half and leaving Melissa to search the closer half. "Meet at the gazebo?" she called after him. Vine's tail waved in acknowledgement. Melissa glanced at her surroundings. "Now where would I hide the clue?"

Sure enough, a morose expression was fixed on the Pidgey's beak when the wet bird found her way back to Drew on foot. As Drew had kind of expected, wet wings don't lend well to flight. Taking a towel to gently dab water off the dripping bird, he tried to fend off the worst of Ace's mood. "Hey, you little acrobat, don't feel bad, you did great out there." All he got was a pout. "What? No I didn't. I got out second round!" "Out of four rounds, and the last one was just down to two anyway. Besides, the only reason you got hit was 'cause you were too busy kicking ass and taking names; you never missed a shot!" At her non-committal shrug, he continued. "Seriously, Ace, I'm nothing but proud of you; you did great for the situation you were in." Still, she didn't seem convinced; nothing if not a stubborn bird. Drew let out a sigh, spotting the four gardeners begin rounding the teams up. It looked like he'd have to work with Ace at a later time. "'K, you little daredevil, it's time to move on, but don't let this eat at you." Running a finger down the Pidgey's head feathers, he hummed in thought when it returned damp. "You should probably relax until you're all dry. Maybe in a round or two you can jump back in." That thought seemed to finally do the trick, Ace perking up at a sudden realization. "And then maybe I can face that Fletchling in a rematch!" Mood immediately rebounding, Ace began muttering to herself, planning her newfound rival's swift retribution. Inwardly, Drew groaned, sympathy swelling for that trainer and her Fletchling. They wouldn't know what hit them if Ace got her way. Recalling the oblivious Ace to her Poke ball - towel and all - Drew trotted along to catch up with the rest of his team, venturing on into Roserade's section of the garden. *Ace grew from Lv. 9 to Lv. 11!* ------------------------------------------------- "I know I said this the other day, but this really is the kind of garden I'd prefer. Neat, orderly, and most importantly functional." At Drew's side, Rotom gave him a side-eye, plasma aura crackling as it continually shifted around the Electric-type. "Yeah, 'cause you're definitely the gardening type." "Hey," Drew huffed indignantly, "you never know, I might just have a green thumb. 've kept our new base alive, haven't I?" Moving on from the water war brought the teams into their respective Queen's gardens. Passingly familiar with the Queen Roserade's from his previous time in the Cloud Gardens, Drew had only paid the barest attention on their little tour, instead focusing on the new task: a classic scavenger hunt. With Ace resting and Zylia a laughable choice for a scavenger hunt, he only really had an option between Rotom and Donnie, his relatively newborn Grubbin. Rotom won out in the end, just on the off chance they need to do some 'creative thinking' with his cell phone's Internet browser. Besides, he mentally justified, it wouldn't be as if Drew would be the one searching for hints. "Ok, I'll give you that, but only cause you managed to install a stinking lift without killing the thing," Rotom retorted with an eye roll. "You have any idea on that riddle?" "Actually, yes! We're lucky, I've heard that one before," Drew said, steering the duo towards the rather well-manicured lawn. "The sharp slim blade, that cuts the wind? A blade of grass. There is just one problem to that." Gesturing widely out to the sprawling yard, he let the reason go unsaid. Rotom, thankfully, caught on quick. "...Well, shit." "Yep," Drew said, popping the 'p.' "We might as well be finding a needle in a pile of grass." The plasma Pokémon let out a heavy sigh. "Better get looking then. I swear, if we are looking for a literal individual blade of grass I somebody's ass is getting thunderbolted." "I second that sentiment. Ok, let's split up and cover ground quicker. Let's say, you start by the rangers over there," he suggested with a vague gesture to the garden rangers handing out brochures, "while I start near that camera-guy?" "You just don't want me to get distracted taking pictures," Rotom accused with no real heat. "Got it in one, Rotom," Drew laughed, changing course towards the cameraman's section of the lawn. "Good hunting, try not to destroy the place." "I make no promises," the plasma Pokémon stated to empty air as he went the other direction. |

"I’m yellow but I’m not a banana, I can be over ten feet tall but I’m not a giraffe. What am I?" "That's an easy one," Hiero said to Jotaro. The Lombre looked a little out of it, but agreed with his trainer anyway. Hiero knew the Lombre was probably just too embarrassed to swallow his pride and pretended to follow along. He chuckled slightly and knelt down besides the Lombre. "There aren't many yellow things around here that can be over ten feet tall aside from sunflowers. The problem is, well... they're everywhere," he said with a sigh. Jotaro stared at his trainer for a moment, and then tilted his head to the side and pointed towards the throne room. "I mean... yes, I suppose it could be the throne itself, given that is might be the most obvious sunflower here, but... well, I suppose it can't hurt to have a look. The only other place I could think to check, if it isn't the throne, would be the spaced out sunflowers we passed by in the rock garden. What do you think?" Jotaro put his hand on his chin thoughtfully and then gave a nod. "Bre." "Alright then. Let's check the throne, and then... well, if it isn't the throne, we'll check the sunflowers on the rock garden path!"

Welcome to the group TKF!
Jerichi: As he witnessed the battle play out, Lucas had a feeling things were beginning to draw to a close. Violette had taken a few hits, and her condition was far from perfect, but Whimsicott wasn’t doing too hot either. Fortunately for him, Lucas had one final ace up his sleeve; the ultimate trump card that he was dying to put into action. After calling out his strategy to his Vulpix, Lucas tossed her a Pecha Berry in order to rid her of that nasty status effect. Violette smiled through labored breaths as the Pecha Berry rolled to her feet. The Leech Seeds had already sapped enough of her health, but the added effect of the poison just made things worse, so she happily began to chow down on the berry. Seizing the opportunity while its opponent was distracted, Whimsicott dashed in and hit Violette with another Mega Drain, taking even more of her health and adding it back onto its own. With the poison now cured, Violette got back to her feet and stared the cotton ball down. It was time to put an end to this for once and for all, and she nodded at Lucas that she was ready. Lucas nodded in return and stood behind his Pokemon, holding up his Z-Ring with the Icium-Z inserted. The crystal glowed a soft white, and Lucas held his arm up in front of him diagonally. He then crossed his other arm to form an X, and then crossed his arms in a similar fashion a second time but slightly higher. Lucas then swiftly held his arms straight out at his sides before swinging them straight forward in front of him. “SUBZERO SLAMMER!” he called out as a bright aura enveloped Violette and him. The icy Vulpix howled in unison, stomping the ground with her forepaws. The chilling atmosphere caused by the Hail suddenly got twice as cold and a layer of frost coated the ground around them. A pillar of ice appeared beneath Violette’s feet, rising higher and higher as it lifter her into the air. Taking a deep breath, Violette stared down at the Whimsicott and cried out, “VULLLLLLLL!” A massive beam of ice burst from her mouth and shot forward, blasting the Whimsicott with incredible power. The cotton ball never stood a chance as it was completely encased in a block of ice, and as the attack culminated, the block of ice erupted with crystals in every direction, forming a magnificent spiky flower made entirely out of ice. As she caught her breath, the pillar of ice crumbled beneath Violette, allowing her to land. Petunia stood there in awe and Lilligant stepped forward, clapping her leafy hands together. She didn’t need to check on Whimsicott’s condition as the battle was clearly over. In fact, the expression on the queen’s face showed that she was quite impressed by the beautiful spectacle left behind and didn’t slow the slightest of intentions of freeing Whimsicott from the display. Completely exhausted from the battle, Violette laid down on the ground, a victorious smile on her face. Violette has grown 5 levels! A queen of her word, Lilligant stepped around the icy flower and directed for Lucas to follow her inside her personal treasure room. Petunia was grinning from ear to ear, this being an opportunity she didn’t get to experience very often. Before them lay seemingly endless piles of collectibles and various other shiny objects. If Lucas didn’t know any better, he would have thought of Lilligant as a hoarder. The flower queen stepped up to one pile and pulled out the item in question. It was a large yellow seed, big enough to fit in the palm of one’s hand, and it had a golden sheen to it. As Lucas waited to be handed the Miracle Seed, Lilligant held up her hand to tell him to wait one moment. “I think she’s up to something,” Petunia whispered to him. Lilligant walked over to another pile and pulled out a tan and orange colored berry. She cracked open the berry and squeezed its juices all over the seed before licking the rest of it off her hand. Lilligant had a maniacal look in her eye as she stepped toward Lucas and handed him the seed. It was a little sticky and it had a peculiar odor to it now. Lilligant stared at Lucas right in the eyes and crossed her arms, showing how serious she was about him making sure he delivered the seed to Roserade exactly as she had given it to him. Petunia looked at Lucas and silently nodded, indicating that it was probably best to honor Lilligant’s request when she had this kind of expression. With the goal now in hand, it was time for Lucas to make his way back toward Roserade. He could choose to make another detour to the gazebo in the center of the garden, but at this rate it might be best to not keep Roserade waiting too long. What will Lucas do? Patches: As the battle tournament kicked off, Patches eagerly watched and cheered on her Charmander. Not to be deterred by Mankey’s assault, Kei nodded quietly to himself in order to drum up the confidence to keep going. He had a new friend depending on him to win this, so from now on he would need to put his best foot forward. As the Mankey hopped in place, still practicing his warm up punches, Kei quickly thought of what he wanted to do next. Desiring a distraction to buy him time to set up, Kei took a deep breath and blew forth a thick black cloud which filled the ring. Mankey let out an angry “Ukee!” to call Kei a coward and charged forward into the Smokescreen. Mankey Swiped the air Furiously, but was unable to find its target. Disappointed, Mankey began to Focus its Energy while it waited for the smoke to clear. However, this gave Kei all the time he needed to finish his Dragon Dance. The Charmander glowed with a pinkish-red aura as he hopped back and forth, becoming faster and stronger than before. As the smoke finally cleared a bit and visibility was clearer, Kei dashed forward with his fist enveloped in Fire. He Punched Mankey right in the back, knocking it down. Mankey screeched angrily once again, getting back to its feet and staring Kei down. The two Pokemon charged forward once again, Kei with another Fiery Punch while Mankey aimed another Karate Chop. The two attacks collided with their targets, Mankey taking a brutal hit while Kei getting chopped in the side for critical damage. While Kei had taken a nasty hit from Mankey, he clearly had the upper hand at this point. Mankey was leaning against the ropes, desperately trying to catch his breath after those powerful punches. If Kei were to go on the offensive, he could have this battle in the bag in a hurry. What will he do? lilbluecorsola: The sun was shining brightly overhead as the heat and humidity in the jungle-like section of the Rose Garden. Despite having taken some damage, Comfey and Iris were in a position of strength having hampered Steenee and Cherrim’s mobility. However, the two opponents were enjoying the effects of the increased sunlight, so Jess thought it would be best to not underestimate them. Looking over at Iris, who seemed as ready to go as ever, Jess called out her strategy to the little caterpillar Pokemon. Facing off against the Steenee, Iris began to glow a soft red as she smugly taunted her opponent with her Swagger. Steenee’s eyes turned red with anger, ready to have a go at the Sewaddle, and began to Spin Rapidly to shake off the hindering strings and webbing. However, as she did so, Iris’ turned from a soft red into a bright white light, a Flash blinding Steenee’s eyes. Steenee yelled in frustration, wobbling unsteadily from her dizziness, charging forward at Iris for a Double Slap but missed her target entirely. Meanwhile, Comfey targeted the other immobilized foe and sought to hinder it even further, Wrapping her long flowery tail around the Cherrim. Cherrim proceeded to Grow even further, which seemed to stretch out and loosen Comfey’s hold on it before Tackling both Comfey and itself to the ground. With her hold now loose, Comfey let go of Cherrim and turned her attention back to Iris, offering a Helping Hand as the Bug Pokemon went in to Bite the Steenee. The fruit flower yelled in pain from the boosted super effective hit. Despite having no practice beforehand, Iris and Comfey’s teamwork was proving quite effective so far in battle. Iris had taken no damage this round while Comfey took a slight hit along with Cherrim, but Steenee had suffered a pretty damaging blow and was still enraged and disoriented. Sensing its partner’s peril, Cherrim looked ready to strike, and with the amount it had grown under the intense sunlight, that could prove dangerous to Iris and Comfey. TheKnightsFury: It was a beautiful morning as Jayson made his entrance into the Cloud Forest. He had wandered into the foothills of Mt. Zephyria a short while before, but he was still relatively new at finding his way around the area. With tales of adventures and trials as his motivation, Jayson was inclined to seek out his own challenge that lay before him as he had plans of scaling the mountainside. But first, some light training would suffice for this morning as his Scyther, Spartacus, along with newly hatched Skorupi Trieu tagged along. The further the group walked into the forest, the more the overwhelming presence of the gigantic trees around them seemed to envelop them. Plenty of birds were chirping all around the forest and the warm summer breeze gently shook the leaves above. Playing the role of the older brother, Spartacus led the way, to try and show Trieu the ropes of how to become a tough bug Pokemon. The tall mantis proceeded as the vanguard of the group, taking extra time to slice up some bushes that weren’t necessarily in their way all for the sake of showing off his scythes. As they continued through the forest, a soft chirping sound was heard up ahead hidden behind a bush. It wasn’t the chirping of a bird however; it sounded more like an insect instead. Ready to take control of the situation, Spartacus sliced his scythe through the air with such speed that it created a Vacuum in the air and a Wave shot forward, piercing the bush. As the shockwave hit, the bush practically exploded, leaves and twigs flying everywhere. With the foliage no more, a cowardly Kricketot lay before them, shaking with a large bump forming on its head. It timidly began to Growl at the attackers in an attempt to fend them off. While he may not have intended to play the role of a bully, Spartacus was in search of a sparring partner to accelerate his growth, so this Kricketot would have to do for now. As he held up his scythes in anticipation of the coming battle, a sudden noise suddenly came from above. “Karra…. BLAST!” A small blue beetle had leapt out of a branch from the trees above, horn pointed straight at Spartacus as it plummeted to earth. The beetle’s horn collided with the mantis, striking him with a super effective Peck. As it landed, the Karrablast angrily Leered at Spartacus and Trieu with an icy glare. It seemed like this scarab possessed a chivalrous spirit and wouldn’t let the Kricketot be ganged up on.

War of the Roses Note: Team Lilligant's section was written by Patches. Team Lilligant After receiving their first clues to this next challenge, Team Lilligant takes a bit of time to think over the riddles and come up with a strategy based on the answers they each reach. One would think that finding the answer to the riddle is all there is to it, unfortunately, it would seem that each member of the team has encountered some type of obstacle that they must overcome before they can have their next clue… Rorik – You are the first one who decides to enter the domain in search of their next clue, this event is fortunately right up your alley after all. You know that trying to get out of this and disappointing the queen is probably not a good idea so at least now you might be able to enjoy some part of this. Deciding that Munchlax deserves a rest you decide to bring Staryu along with you for this one. The riddle seemed to trigger some nostalgia within you so there was no question that the answer was lavender and since that path to the right was lined with purple flowers of all sorts, it must be over there. This path feels like it goes on forever, you aren’t sure how long you’ve been searching for but it seems like every single purple flower besides lavender has shown up. You’ve even reached a point where you’re now digging through purple sage knowing full well it’s not actually lavender in hopes that maybe the clue just meant it needs to look like lavender. Of course, you are having no luck with the sage and stand up in frustration while thinking maybe finding a way out just might be the best course of action to take. But you’re encouraged by your Staryu to keep going so you decide to keep pressing forward for now. Finally, after many more twists and turns that familiar scent hits your nose. This is it! This is definitely lavender, you’d recognize that smell from your childhood anywhere and begin to speed up following the scent around a few more turns until you are forced to stop dead in your tracks. “PSY YAI YAI… duck.” You can see it. The lavender is right there in front of you, you can even see an envelope clearly sticking out of the flowers, not even hidden. You could just walk right up and grab it, that is, if there weren’t several Psyduck blocking your path. “Psy yai yai yai yai…” There are four Psyduck, all clutching their heads while constantly voicing their complaints over each other. It would appear that they all have a headache and are also about to give you one since they have decided to all come together right in this very spot, blocking you from being able to reach the lavender. You’re going to have to figure out how to get around them if you want to grab that next clue. Lucas – Although you’re happy that your team is in first you can’t help but feel guilty that you weren’t able to contribute as much as the others. Deciding that you are going to make up for it this round, you begin to wrack your brain trying to find an answer to the riddle that is written on the paper in your hand. Since Horologie is still full of energy she will be accompanying you in this round as well and she seems to be just fine with that idea. After a lot of concentration and a few guesses that just didn’t feel right, you suddenly believe you’ve found the answer! This must be referring to a path or road of some kind. It doesn’t take you long to figure out that there were way too many paths in this place for it to be just any old path so after deciding that the cement one was similar to a road, that is the path you choose to take. You’re determined to prove your worth to this team and decide you’re going to check every single possible place these clues might be hidden. This path is pretty straight forward and a lot of the same and even though nothing really stands out to you, you continue to hunt through the bushes looking for something that is different even if it’s a small difference. You even resort to crawling around on the ground to see if maybe there is a piece of cement that is loose or something even though that doesn’t look to be the case. Eventually, you reach a water fountain and this gets your hopes up at first but after examining it thoroughly and feeling around it, it seems that this isn’t the place either. You had even momentarily lifted up the Sewaddle that was relaxing on the fountains edge in hopes that maybe the clue was hidden underneath it but still no luck. The path splits off in two directions but only one direction is still paved with cement so you decide to stick with your gut and continue to follow it while continuing to be just as thorough as you had been up to this point. Horologie seems to be enjoying the atmosphere as she follows closely behind you. Finally, you’re coming up on a dead end where you can see a man standing a little bit away from a group of flowers in the ground, knowing that at this rate that is your last hope you begin to approach. There is a sign posted that says “Caution: Wet Cement” which is probably why that man is standing back so you just decide to look ahead for now to see if anything stands out to you and finally, something does! You can see an envelope sticking out of the flowers plain as day, looks like you were right after all! At this point you aren’t going to allow a little wet cement to stop you from getting to that clue and so you begin to step toward it. “Aaaaah! Wait!” Startled, you step back and look over at the man who just yelled. He is holding a clipboard in his arm and a pencil in the other. Adjusting his glasses, he gives you a stern look. “I’ve just discovered a set of incredibly rare Pokemon prints. Please stay back, I need to make the perfect sketch.” He then seems to get back into his zone and begins to scribble on the paper that is attached to his clipboard. You look down at the cement in front of you and see that the footprints appear to be those of a regular pair of shoes. You still need that clue and it’s so close, of course it has to be right on the other side of those prints. Alex – After the big win in the previous round you decide that your Aipom has earned herself a much needed rest and return her to her ball. After which, your team was approached by Petunia who explained what you will be doing this time around. After looking over the riddle you accidentally release your Ferroseed and figure he is still good company and decide to keep him with you for this one. Seems that bringing him along is already proving to be the right choice since he helps you solve your riddle by poking at a nearby decaying leaf. Now that you’re onto something, you decide to go and explore the area with the trees that you’ve heard about. You figured it would be easy to find the trees since the directions seemed to be pretty straight forward but that quickly proves to not be the case. It was straight forward at first, but once you found yourself on the gravel path you ran into many different unmarked splits in the path where you would have to guess which way to go. After hitting your 12th dead end you were starting to feel exhausted. Pridwen seemed to be doing just fine though since the gravel created an interesting texture for him to roll around on and watching the little stones fly out behind him was also entertaining. You wonder how much longer this was going to go on, at this rate you probably wouldn’t even be able to find your way back out let alone finding the trees. With no other choice, you continue to search, only now you’re even eyeing up the hedges along the way just in case the “leaf” the riddle was referring to really was from the hedges after all. After a few more dead ends you finally, by some miracle, made a correct choice somewhere and find yourself now looking out at a small gathering of trees. You haven’t even found the clue but the happiness you feel at finally finding your destination is almost overwhelming. After taking a few moments to get your mind back in the game you step into the gathering noticing that the trees all have different shades of green leaves. When you look at the ground around them you see that the ground has been very well maintained, there are all of these trees but not even a single leaf on the ground. At least, that’s what you thought at first but once you walk behind the tree with the darkest leaves you see it, there is a single leaf on the ground, just one all by itself. What catches your eye even more than the leaf is the bright white envelope sticking out from under it. Well, at least the search wasn’t too difficult after what you just went through trying to find this place. You walk up to the leaf and bend down to grab it but then, once your hand is just inches away, it disappears! You stand back up and watch as a Pansage quickly climbs up the tree carrying the envelope. Once it reaches a branch that is just out of your reach it decides to settle itself down comfortably while it begins playing with the envelope. Seems like grabbing your clue wasn’t as easy as you might have hoped. Please post your replies by August 20. Continue to use the same Pokemon you chose in your previous reply. Team Bellossom As the scent of strawberries filled their noses, Team Cute took a moment to look over and solve their riddles. Bellossom gave a wave to each trainer as they headed off to explore, but as the last trainer exited she couldn’t help but let out a giggle. Would her adorable little team be able to solve their riddles, and get past the obstacles they encountered? Melissa: From Bellossom’s throne room, you and your Snivy soon arrive at the waterlily display. You are greeted by the calming sound of water and a slight breeze. Waterlilies in several different colors float gently on top of the water, and in the distance, you can hear the croaking of a Poliwag. As there were several ponds to look over, you and Vine go separate ways. You look for almost opposite answers to your riddle. With the way the sun is currently positioned, neither light nor shadow is particularly significant in this display. The water is clear enough to see the bottom of each pool, but there isn’t anything in them besides plants and the occasional sighting of a native Pokemon. Vine scurries up to you as you finish looking over a pond with yellow waterlilies and orange lotus. He shakes his head, unable to find anything of interest in his search. The Snivy gestures behind you to the gazebo where you initially planned to rendezvous. You turn to face the white, wooden stairs of the structure. The gazebo is lined with rose bushes in varying shades of red, and two gardeners chat while watering the plants with Squirtle and Wailmer shaped pails. It would be ideal to use the shade of the gazebo to get out of the hot sun to think of where to go next, but a dark brown tree stands on the top step. It has long branches with three groups of green, and its trunk is dotted with yellow. Oddly, the tree has a mouth and eyes that blink as you approach. It stares past you, and as you make eye contact with it, its eyes shift in another direction, looking uncomfortable. Besides this slight movement, the tree is unmoving, and doesn’t look to be interested in going anywhere any time soon. Hiero: Still in Bellossom’s throne room, you make sure you and your Lombre are on the same page. The answer seems to be right in front of you, with Queen Bellossom perched right on top of it. You approach the Queen, and Peony looks worried that she hadn’t reminded you to bow in front of her highness. Bellossom looks surprised at you, but not upset that you weren’t humbling yourself in her honor. You begin to examine the large sunflower throne, but two Gloom frantically stop you. In panic, they release a foul-smelling spray that make you and Jotaro immediately cover your noses and retreat. Peony giggles as you exit the throne room and instead head to the Rock Garden, far away from the awful stench. The path to the rocky area of Bellossom’s domain is dotted with sunflowers of different heights. You take a look over each one, Jotaro looking at the flowers on the other side of the path. You begin to hear the sound of the garden’s waterfall, and wonder if you are in the right place. You get even closer to the end of the past, and can feel some flecks of water against your face. Jotaro lets out a loud exclamation, and waves you over to where he is looking. You join him, hoping that he found something to indicate you had chosen the right answer. In a small patch of dirt lays a Sunkern smaller than the palm of your hand. It looks to be recently dug up from some wild Pokemon, and it is shaking in shock and fear. The two leaves growing from its head are drooping, and they look slightly wrinkled. The soil around it is dry, and the nearest sunflowers are rather far from where you found the Sunkern. Your Lombre looks at you worriedly, unsure what to do about the young, helpless Pokemon in front of you. Jessica: Deep in thought, you wander out of the throne room. You read your riddle thoroughly, and make decisions about where to look as you walk. You look over the flowers resting gently in the ponds of the Waterlily Garden, and decide that you need some extra help from one of your Pokemon. Lilac quickly identifies the Rock Garden as a better place to look, and you follow her down the path. The two of you pass by tall sunflowers to the area of the garden with stacks of rocks decorating it. Nearby are comfortable looking benches that are slowly being covered up by soothing shade. Uninterested in any of the living things in this area of the garden, you turn to the dark grey objects placed about. You skip past the stalks of bamboo in favor of the treasures of the earth that must be the answer to your riddle. You both look over the rock waterfall, not recognizing any rocks that were particularly unique. A loud, distressed squeaking noise pulls your attention away from scrutinizing each and every rock. “ZUUU RI RI RI” A cry comes from a small blue Pokemon sitting on a rather shiny cluster of rocks. Behind the sobbing sphere is an Icy Rock. You and your Petlil gently approach the creature who begins to wail more and thrash about. It bounces up and down on its tail in a manner that seems almost dangerous. The sun is high in the sky, and the heat would make anyone feel rather worn out. This Pokemon’s tantrum is only getting worse, and you and Lilac are gradually getting soaked by its tears. Please post your replies by August 20. War of the Roses Team Tsareena Tsareena gave a nod as each member of Team Unique went off to find the answer to their riddle. The Fruit Pokemon’s garden soon proved to be as harsh as the Poni Wilds, and trainers found themselves running into rather challenging obstacles. Chroma: You and Berure felt quite comfortable in Tsareena’s domain. The Tangrowth was delighted at the amount of moisture at the air, and was glad you had chosen her as her partner for this round. With some kind of flower in mind, you left the throne room and went to explore the rest of the garden. You walked through soft underbrush and tall trees with vines hanging from them. Though it might have been because you were walking fairly fast, you felt yourself get sweatier as you went on. Tsareena’s gardeners had spared no expense when it came to mirroring the deepest jungles of Alola. At the same time, it was counterintuitive for a garden who was hoping to attract guests looking for a relaxing time. By now, the humidity was oppressive, and it was feeling like you were swimming through the air. You winded through trees and past ferns that were only growing taller. A haze had appeared and obscured visibility quite a bit. Berue suddenly stuck out one of her long vines, pointing in the distance. Though it was difficult to see, you could make out a patch of bright, tropical flowers growing at the base of a tree. You approach the flowers, but everything goes white, and you feel the overwhelming urge to cough. “So sorry! So sorry!” A voice rang out through the thick fog. A silhouette of a person stood in front of you and your Pokemon. The voice was deep and likely belonged to a man, but it was almost impossible to tell. The person fiddles with a boxy object on the ground in between the two of you. There is the sound of buttons being pressed randomly, and another large cloud of vapor spews into the air. You, Berue, and the person cough. “Persimmon asked me to check all the humidifiers, but this one is on the fritz! I can’t see anything like this, and with this much moisture people might start slipping. If only I could figure out how to fix this darn thing…” Alice: Quickly adapting to the new environment, you and Pineco leave Tsareena’s throne room close behind your team. Together, you go through all of the ring-shaped things you can think of, ruling out anything that wouldn’t be found in the garden. You soon settle on an answer, and make your way towards the grove of berry trees in the domain. You pass by bunches of Bluk, plenty of Pecha, and accumulations of Aspear. Before long, you find a thinly trunked tree with bright yellow fruit hanging from it. Wiggly lines on its skin form the rings you know you are looking for. Excitedly, you lift up Pineco to help you retrieve one of the berries. You feel a sensation on your leg, and pull yourself and Pineco away from the tree in shock. A man in a security guard outfit lays against the tree, his sweaty hand sliding down your leg as you notice him. “Please…miss…” He croaks. His dark hair sticks to his forehead, and his uniform is dark with sweat. “I’m so…thirsty…” It was certainly hot enough to dehydrate someone in this area of the garden. You start to check if you have any water on you, but he stops you and speaks again. “Need…that…Only that…” The guard holds up a shaky hand to point behind you at the smoothie shack. Specifically, he points to the sign that advertised the special of the day. was a busy day, and many guests were lining up to get a refreshing drink. The longer the line went on, the more disgruntled the people waiting looked. More and more people were joining the line, and the owners were frantically calling out numbers when each order was ready. Though the man on the ground was on the verge of passing out, he looks determined that he needs that smoothie and nothing else. Please post your replies by August 20. Continue to use the same Pokemon you chose in your previous reply. Team Roserade The Roselia guards of Roserade watch carefully as each member of Team Cool looks over their riddles. As the trainers file out one by one, the guards give a flowery salute. Everything about Roserade’s domain was laid out perfectly, and Team Cool began to wonder: Were these obstacles planned out too? Seiko: Aiolia bounds out of Roserade’s throne room with you following close behind. You pass by rows of roses to arrive in the section of the fields that housed more varieties of flowers. The flowers are organized by color, and you weed through patches of red carnations on to orange poppies. You even spot a flower aptly named ‘Litleo’s tail’, a discovery you and your Pokemon are rather amused by. Both of you focus your sights on the ground and keep an eye out for the single blooming flower referenced in your riddle. As tulips could be almost any color of the rainbow, you weren’t quite sure where they would be hiding. You make it into the blues, and are suddenly stopped by bumping into something. You look up and realized you had actually run into someone. The tall woman turns around, a wide grin on her face. You open your mouth to apologize, but she grabs your hand and gives it a vigorous shake. “Hi sweetheart! I’m Eileen, it’s so GREAT to meet you! What’s your name, honey?” She doesn’t pause for an answer and instead lifts up a briefcase. She unlocks it and it falls open, revealing rows of Ragecandybars. “Are you hungry? Of course you are. I’m from Mahogany Candy Co. and I have a GREAT new flavor of Ragecandybar for you and your Pokemon to try. I used to be a trainer too, and isn’t it so DIFFICULT to make any money? I almost gave up until I found this GREAT opportunity.” Aiolia spots a patch of purple tulips on the other side of the woman, and tries to walk around her to reach them. While the woman goes on about how much her life has changed since she started selling candy, she swiftly moves a heeled foot to block the Litleo’s way. You try to step around the other side of her, but she quickly mirrors your movement and moves the briefcase closer. She seems to be the kind of person who would respond well to the same kind of enthusiasm for Ragecandybars as she does. “So what do you say dear? You really can’t miss out on this GREAT offer. I’ll go ahead and sell this entire case to you for $10,000, and you can turn that around for a GREAT profit, I promise!” Sypher: Jill takes up the note in her claws, and both of you head to the large field in the middle of Roserade’s garden. The sprawling lawn is bustling with people, and some look excited as you, one of the participants, approach. The Ranger handing out brochures stands on one side, with the photographer on the other. With different answers in mind, you and Jill part ways. You head over to the photographer whose camera is pointed to the hedges, his eye firmly pressed to the viewfinder. He is focused on a hedge sculpted to look like a Nidoqueen and Nidoking couple. On the head of the Nidoking sits a Ledyba, which flees as you approach. The photographer lets out an exasperated sigh. “What do you want, kid?” He looks down at the recent pictures he has taken on his camera, not looking up at you. You start to explain that you are part of the event. “Yeah. I know. Good for you.” He is sounding even more annoyed. You decide to get to the point, and ask him for a picture to complete your task. He finally looks up with you, confusion on his face. “What? Why the hell would you need that? I’m just from the local newspaper and I’m trying to get my job done. Get lost.” Meanwhile, Jill flies through the garden towards the Ranger. She narrowly misses getting hit by a Frisbee, and several people call out in apology. The Noibat plans to land on the brim of the Ranger’s large hat to get her attention, and she stretches out her feet to prepare. With a squeak, she is yanked out of the air and into a tight hug. “I caught a Noibat!” Declares the child who grabbed Jill. His celebration is short-lived before Jill is pulled out of the boy’s grasp. “No I want it!” Whines the much younger girl. Another boy approaches, looking like he had seen quite a few fights on the playground. He easily plucks Jill from the little girl’s hands, and starts to play keep-away with the two children that are shorter than him. Jill start to feel dizzy as she is pulled and tossed in every direction. Hearing the commotion, you run to Jill’s rescue, as does the red-uniformed ranger. “Uh, woah! Stop that you guys!” The young Ranger starts, keeping a safe distance from the angry tangle of children. “Don’t fight you guys. Violence is uh…bad?” The Ranger is holding the brochures in front of her as a kind of shield, and you can see a map of the Rose Garden printed on it. The children continue to bicker and throw punches at each other, and the Ranger’s words don’t seem to be of much use. Drew: Dreading your search of the most prominent type of plant in the entire garden, you and Rotom make your way to the freshly-mowed field. Guests mingle about, chatting and enjoying refreshments that had recently been passed out. You decided to split up to cover more ground. You scan the ground as you walk, looking for anything that stood out about the grass at your feet. You pass by the photographer, who looks annoyed at another member of your team. On the other side of the field, Rotom zips around the legs of garden patrons and around strollers. It moves quickly, not focusing on any one part of the grass for too long. Soon, both trainer and Pokemon find themselves approaching each other once more. Rotom floats under a table, surrounded by speakers on each side. Instead of going around the large speaker, it easily phases through the device and appears on the other side. You meet up with your Pokemon to discuss any possible findings, and suddenly music starts to blare from the speakers. Immediately, seven men in identical orange shirts jog out to the middle of the field and begin to dance and spin. You and Rotom see a single blade of grass much taller and larger than the ones around it. However, the dancing men are directly in the way. You attempt to approach the blade of grass, but find that you are nearly having to dance yourself to avoid getting hit by swinging arms and legs. “Today we are dancing for no reason! Someday, we’ll disappear for no reason!” Sings the man in the middle of the group. Over by the speakers, two more men in orange shirts argue with each other over who started the music at the wrong time. Each of them deny that they had anything to do with it, and seem to be struggling to find a way to turn the music off. Please post your replies by August 20. Continue to use the same Pokemon you chose in your previous reply. |

"Steady yourself Trieu, this is your first real fight, let's take it steady and play it smart. Let's try and poison the Kricketot, give it a Poison Sting, give it another if it doesn't look poisoned, otherwise give it a good old Leer. Spartacus lead from the front as you do best, Dual Chop the Karrablast then blindside it with a Quick Attack before raking it with another Dual Chop. It wasn't the most extravagant plan but the stakes of this battle were far from high and the last thing Jayson wanted was to confuse Trieu in her first battle. |

Berue, on the other hand, found it all rather enjoyable. Despite the brightness of the day, much of the sunlight was was filtered by the makeshift jungle's canopy, leaving only a small dappling of soft yellow to reach the verdant ground. The humidity, too, was hardly a hindrance to her, as her vines proved to be adept at trapping water within them even in such seemingly extreme conditions. This was the sort of place her kind were adapted to thrive in, she realized- the sort of climate she would've lived in if her egg hadn't been in the Egg House of old. She wanted to enjoy her time here, of course, but she could tell that her trainer was nowhere near as comfortable here and they had a goal to achieve, a queen to appease. There was no time to dilly-dally! Oddly, a white mist began to come to view, thickening as they continued. "That's probably weird, right? Fog requires it to be cool to form, and it's anything but cool right now!" Another minute or so of walking passed before Berue pointed at something bright in the distance- most likely a patch of flowers that could very well match the description they were looking for! Just as the pair moved to get a closer look, however, the white mass suddenly thickened significantly, assaulting their lungs and obscuring the blooms from view once more. "What the heck?! Not even Ghost-infested graveyards are this bad!" Another collection of coughs alerted the pair that they weren't alone, though the third party hardly seemed to be threatening. In fact, they were having a bit of a panic attack regarding the busted humidifier. Well, this was a scavenger hunt rather than just a riddle chase, so if that was the right batch of flowers, then... this pour soul's present misfortune was likely set up that way on purpose! Of course, they could be way off target and this meeting was merely a coincidence, but... it probably wasn't worth the risk. Though said risk did bring up another question as she approached the figure and asked if she could do anything to help. What exactly were they going to do with a busted water-spewing machine in the first place? |

Using all of the power he could muster, Elenchos lifted himself back up telekinetically and began a slow but determined journey back to the middle of the playing field. With the Lycanroc focused on protecting her flag, the Inkay was able to return to his goal uninhibited. The Midnight Lycanroc rushed Louise, angrily falling for the Taunt she spat in her direction. She let out a whimpering bark as Louise battered her with Ancient Power, then returned the attack by Throwing Rocks of her own. In retaliation, your Mawile focused her energy on the metal that lay deep in the minerals that were being hurled towards her. They exploded mid-air, raining shards down on both Louise and Lulu, the latter taking more of the hit. Near your flag, Miapladicus and Berue followed through with their attacks. Madoka’s Larvitar was struggling to stand, and his trainer even had his Pokeball out, contemplating whether he was still able to battle. The Larvitar stared at your Tangrowth with a Scary Face, and Berue felt herself slowing. Following your instruction, Berue lifted large stone from the ground with an Ancient Power, and charged sent them toward Godzilla and Lunatone along with a Wave of Shocks. The rocks kept Larvitar down, but the electricity merely ran through him with no effect. Lunatone was meanwhile overwhelmed with attacks from both Miapladicus and Berue. It rose itself higher and higher in the air to try and avoid its opponents on the ground. A last Water Gun sent the Pokemon spinning with a distressed cry. Suddenly, it stopped at a high point in the sky, and both you and Madoka looked up at it. The shrine maiden had that same smile on her face. You blinked, and were unsure if you had actually opened your eyes again. The bright moonlight that had lit up the field disappeared, leaving you and your Pokemon in darkness. Other than a few twinkling stars, the only light came from your Staryu’s Illuminate, but its circumference only reached so far. Your Pokemon could of course still hear anything you called out to them, but it certainly would be difficult to maneuver in this darkened battlefield. ------------------------------- Maskerade: Cursing at whatever forces were currently manipulating your fate, you bounded after the Bunnelby. Staryu was keeping up with you, his determination in this pursuit ever growing. With Munchlax lagging behind, you decided it would be best that he took a break and recalled him to the comfort of his Ball. Between breaths and complaints, you directed Staryu to attack, and the Pokemon sprang into action. It swiftly launched itself in the air and began to spin similar to a popular children’s toy. Staryu directed itself toward the nearest Bunnelby and struck it at an incredibly high speed. The Normal-type stumbled, and continued to roll on the ground from the momentum. Your Pokemon continued through the air toward the other two, striking the second in the ears. This redirected Staryu and sent it whirling skyward. Not looking back, the third Bunnelby continued to run, rounding a corner in the distance. The second rabbit was obviously hurt, but not enough to hinder its speed. It too rounded the corner up ahead and out of sight. Seeing an opportunity, you lunged forward and nabbed the small brown Pokemon Staryu had helped to take down. You slid across the dirt as if you had just scored a home run, holding tight to your capture. The Pokemon wriggled in your arms to try and free itself from your gasp. You resisted against its strong legs and wrestled it firmly onto the ground. The Bunnelby had given up and gone limp, and you were easily able to remove the paper from its mouth. You unraveled it and noticed something strange – the paper is blank. You stare at it in disbelief for a moment before it is again snatched out of your hands. The Pokemon takes off back towards the trees, looking offended that you had touched it in the first place. At the end of the path, your dizzy Staryu calls for your attention. You dust yourself off and make your way over to it, noticing that it is gesturing around the corner. You almost miss it, but the two other Bunnelby have run into the mouth of a large cave. The wall is lined with several torches, allowing you to see that the path splits off into two. One of the furry creatures rushes off to the left, disappearing into the darkness. The other speeds into a more well-lit tunnel, and you can hear the faint sound of dripping water in the distance. ------------------------------- Raves:Herex scuttled away from her duty of hedge clearing to the patch of flowers you directed her toward. She lowered her head to get a closer look, tilting it in different directions. After a few moments of the flowers remaining unmoving, the Drapion looked at you again with a shrug. In the corner of her eye, Herex spotted movement. She jolted back to the flowers and looked at them suspiciously. She was unsure if she had just been seeing things, but she knew she had to check just one more time. Carefully, she touched a claw to the top of a flower. It jumped at her touch and Herex recoiled in surprise. The flowers began to raise from the ground, revealing thick stalks. Two orange figures popped out of the dirt, black eyes staring at Herex. The Pokemon squealed in horror at the purple beast looming over them. Before they could get away, Herex Confided in the small Bug-types. She conveyed to them a quick apology before explaining what you and your Pokemon were up to. “Paras?” The two Pokemon looked at Herex skeptically. They looked to each other, and after some quiet chatting amongst the two of them, they both shrugged. The Paras turned back to the hole they had been buried in, and grasped some of the grass around the edge of it with their claws. Together, they pulled back a large square of grass. A hole was revealed, a slope leading into a musty, underground tunnel. It was dark, but you could see a faint glowing light in the distance. The Paras both looked at you and your Pokemon, gesturing into the hole. It was big enough for all of you to fit into, with a little bit of crawling, but was it right to trust these tochukaso-carrying strangers? |

The lack of light was hardly much of an issue for many beings, of course. Mawile were a cave-dwelling race, adapted not only traversing the tenebrous depths but manipulating others' emotions despite the supposed handicap. Louise ducked as her Head took on an Iron-like sheen and charged to meet Lulu head on head-on, hoping that her apparent lack of concern regarding the latest developments would be enough to make the wolf flinch in alarm or something. She had every intention to give Lulu a good Toss of Seismic proportions as soon afterwards as she could manage- the sooner the lycanroc was out of the way, the better. For Elenchos, even less had changed. He was still sneaking his way to the other side, and hoping that he could make it in time. He'd cleared his mind enough to decide on using Psywave to fend off any attackers. His was one of the more vital roles from the get-go: if he couldn't claim the enemy flag, the trial was as good as lost, right? "Mia, keep the larvitar lit up!" Chroma might not have seen the situation as being as grim as others would have, but that didn't mean that it was without peril. "If it tries anything aggressive, use Vine Whip and Water Gun on it- we cannot afford to lose our flag now!" At least the lunatone had landed itself firmly out of the picture for the time being. That's one less thing to worry about... |

Melissa winced as the Scyther knocked the Poochyena out, the latter seemingly trusting her to take over for it, which Signal did handily. His Thunder Wave landed perfectly, preventing the Scyther from fleeing, though the following Charge Beam didn't seem to do much damage. "Well, at least we stopped it from getting away," she said to Signal, who blinked 'questioning' at her. A nearby "Oomph!" distracted her. Figuring the Scyther wasn't going anywhere soon, she and Signal exchanged glances and looked towards the source of the noise. "Wildfire?" There was a moment's pause. "Quil quil!" She was just about to ask if he was successful when another voice drifted over to her. "Are you serious!? I'm done playing games with you!" Footsteps approached and the boy emerged from the trees, taking in the partial battle. Wildfire followed close behind, almost looking like he'd herded the kid her way. "You know what? Fine. It's not like I have anything better to do now anyway." He sprayed a Paralyze Heal on his Scyther and released another Pokémon that Melissa doesn't recognize. Likely some sort of Water-type, based on its coloring, and maybe something else? Either way, probably a good idea to have the Water-types face each other. "Scyther, Focus your Energy and then Slash at that Chinchou twice! Papi, that thing attacked me earlier so use your Aqua Ring and then hit it with a Bubblebeam as pay back for what it did!" "Wildfire. Aerial Ace on Scyther, then follow up with Rollout. Signal, Soak the other one and then Charge Beam again." Orders given, she pulled out her Pokédex and pointed it at the Pokémon she didn't recognize, calling out to the kid as an afterthought, "By the way, were you setting the forest on fire for a reason or just for kicks? Because that doesn't seem like a very smart thing to do while you're in it..." Water and Ground. Of course. And first identified in Unova, so no wonder she hadn't recognized it. That was after she'd moved here. Wildfire goes from Lv. 52 to 53.

Scratching his head, he began to look up at the tree leaves, and on spotting one tree darker than the rest ventured towards it and looked around, before spotting on the ground below it a single leaf, astride a white rectangle. Most certainly this had to be the clue. With a shrug, he bent over to pick up the clue, only for a green blur to swoop by and the envelope to vanish before his eyes. Was that the wind? No, that was no gust of wind, but a Pansage, who had scampered up to a branch out of Alex's reach, and began playng with the paper. Not only was it denying him progress, but could potentially tear the clue, rendering it impossible to read. He wasn't climbing that tree either, and trying to bargain with the Pansage would be rather futile for now, meaning the only method would be to get the chimp down, without damaging the envelope. He thought for a few seconds before something pointed poked into his leg, as he suppressed a hiss of pain before tilting his head towards the Ferroseed looking up at him, having pronged him with his iron barbs. Of course! "Pridwen, could you roll up the tree and get under the branch the Pansage is on, then give a gyro ball while attached to the branch to give it a good shake and knock the chimp off, so I can grab that clue? No concern if it gets hostile, as I'm confident your iron hide can block anything it throws at you." |

The paper, half-crumbled and very much empty, was in a way the perfect representation of Rorik's entire life work on understanding the mystery of Bonds: gallons of blood, sweat and tears poured into an utterly fruitless labour. He couldn't form the slightest hint of a connection with his own Pokemon, despite his extensive studying of the subject, and he couldn't find the next hint in this silly game of riddles after literally crawling through the mud to reach it. The resemblance was uncanny, and utterly infuriating. Angry, the tackled Bunnelby wound up retrieving the useless paper, and Rorik wasn't about to object. At that point, he was pretty much ready to pack up and go home, his intellect and his dignity thoroughly shattered by a pack of rabbits and whatever twisted mastermind had concocted the whole thing to begin with. But Staryu, ever resilient, ever unreadable, persevered. "Listen, we... we should go," the Professor sighed, disheartened. But when he realized Staryu wasn't about to follow, he turned back around in surprise. "Are you lis... what's wrong?" Not all was lost after all. In the distance, he could barely make out the two remaining Bunnelby fleeing into a large opening on the rock wall up ahead. If they gave chase, maybe they could still catch up to them. But what's the purpose? Why should we keep going? Why am I subjecting myself to this humiliation?... Absent-mindedly, his hand found its way to Staryu's empty Ball. He'd had enough. It was time to go home, take a bath and get some rest. He'd be damned if he would allow a bunch of wild bunnies to make a fool of him any longer. But you are a fool. A disgrace to the Holstadt name. Is that why you don't even use it? The uninvited, most definitely unwelcome words came rushing in to the forefront of his mind, spoken in the tone of the only man who would utter them. Memories of past times he'd much rather forget entirely, but couldn't. Memories of that scumbag... Ulrik Holstadt... Father. There was no doubt about it - he'd mock Rorik incessantly if he were here now. If he saw him give up yet again. If only for that... "Y-you're right. We should follow them." Without another word, Rorik walked past the very-much confused Staryu, who couldn't possibly figure out its Trainer's conflicting thought processes and shifting decisions. But it seemed he'd settled on giving chase, and that was all that mattered. Much to their surprise, the cave entrance lead to a lit tunnel - torches burned on both sides of the wall, revealing at least some degree of maintenance. At the end of the corridor, the road split in two, and - of course - each of the Bunnelby took off in a different direction. Rorik stopped and looked at each of the paths available to them. Personally, he'd pick the darkest one - likely less tampered with, and the Bunnelby would have a hard time maneuvering in such low-visibility terrain. But this time around, he decided to leave the choice to his partner; after all, it had already helped out so much, it deserved at least a say in the matter. Staryu immediately turned to the tunnel from whence a dripping sound could be heard further down, and Rorik really wasn't surprised. With a chuckle, he tapped the starfish on its gem and nodded in approval. "It's been a while, hasn't it? Come on, you deserve a bit of water after all that," concluded the Professor.

A flock of Psyduck stumbled back and forth, plagued by their usual headaches, the kind that came when their latent psychic power became uncontrollable and overwhelming for the feeble-minded beings. And that posed quite the problem for the Professor. This is an unsolvable problem! He saw no way of progressing past that point. And the reason for that was abundantly simple... The only known way to cure a Psyduck's headache is through administering Secret Potion, the ingredients of which have never been disclosed to the general public - not even I, a Pokémon Professor, know how to recreate it! It was infuriating. He couldn't be expected to muscle his way through either - these Psyduck couldn't have ended up in Lilligant's garden by mistake. They were, in all likelihood, guests of the queen, which meant harming them was out of the question. I can't cure them and I can't hurt them. With Staryu as my partner I can't fly over them or dig under them, hedges on both sides mean I can't go around them... And then it struck him. They could do none of those things, but.... "We can go through them!" Staryu's gem flashed repeatedly, signalling its confusion, but Rorik was quick to explain. He dropped to one knee and whispered his instructions to the psychic starfish with a coy smile. "This will risky, but I trust you completely to pull it off," he said encouragingly. "I need you to use Minimize, then make your way across that flock in your miniature state - just be careful not get stepped on! Once you make it across, read the note and relay the contents to me with your Psywave. Got it?" It was the only solution he could think of that did not involve tampering with the Psyduck's minds, physically hurting them or destroying the garden around them. But he made a mental note to read up on the newest articles regarding the Secret Potion as soon as he got back home...

As she approached the gazebo, Vine scurried over, shaking his head at her questioning look and looking somewhat disappointed. "No luck on your end either, huh?" Melissa said, turning towards the gazebo itself. Vine huffed and eyed the front of the gazebo, particularly the 'tree' standing on the top step. His Tail changed from green to Aqua and he glanced questioningly between Melissa and the 'tree.' "Probably, but I dunno if they'd appreciate us attacking their...citizens?" Melissa wondered whether that was the right word for a moment before setting that aside for another time. "We can probably just ask one of those gardeners if we can borrow their watering pot." She watched the probable-Sudowoodo for a moment and spotted its gaze shifting away uncomfortably when she made eye contact. "Or maybe ask it to move?" Having said that, she directed her next words to the probable-Sudowoodo. "Any way we can have you to move out of the way without resorting to water? Or should I ask the gardeners if we can borrow one of their watering pots?" Beside her, Vine waved his still-aqua-colored tail idly from side to side, watching the 'tree' expectantly.

Had the security guard been sent by divine forces to test her? Had he not seen this fucking queue, holy shit? Maybe the dehydration was making him delirious, but whatever the answer was, he deserved a good smack and to be left to die slowly and without mercy. If a security guard fell in the garden, did it make a sound? Did Teddiursa shiz in the woods? Alice deserved to win the entire tournament just for enduring this mess. She was British, and now being faced with that queue? Disgusting. "Are you sure you really need that?" Alice asked. Farren could sense his trainer's temper rising, but he at least kept his cool. He rocked a little in her arms, reminding the young woman of her task overhead. A trusty pin missile dropped one of the required berries down onto his jagged body, and Alice made a point of packing the treasure away. This was clearly going to be a test of her patience, and they only had limited time. "You look really dehydrated right now, and that queue's super long. You'll be in a lot worse state by the time I get to the front, and I don't have time to stay through it." She reasoned, "I could go and alert staff to what's going on, and maybe they can get you one while they help you out, yeah?" It seemed reasonable to her, but if there was one thing she knew about Cloud Garden, was that everybody was fucking mad here. Including her. In both senses of the word that Alice knew.

They were abruptly distracted from their hunt however, by a wailing coming from a shiny cluster of rocks. Approaching the source of the sound, they came upon a small, spheroid-shaped creature that was bouncing up and down on its jagged tail, using its own blue behind as a springboard. Jess vaguely recognized the bubble being as a precursor to one of her other comrades, and briefly wished she could've brought Atzu to help calm his younger brethren down. For the time being, they'd have to find some other way to placate the poor Pokémon, before it dried itself out by shedding so many tears whilst directly exposed to the heat. Emotions and elements did not mix well together in this scenario. (Plus the waterfall streams were starting to soak her shoes and Lilac's dress, as she shook the droplets off her petals with a sigh.) Jess quickly knelt to address the crying critter: "Hey, what's wrong, little guy? Is there anything we can do to help? Do you want to maybe move towards some shade and we can talk about it? There are some nice, cool benches over there... Or do you want to go in the water?" Turning to Lilac, Jess decided to try a different tactic as well in case conversation didn't work. "Maybe some music will help it feel better. Why don't you try your GRASSWHISTLE?" Lilac nodded, preparing to play. While she wasn't nearly as talented a musician as Hoshiko, she could perform a passable harmony now at least, since she'd finally accepted some lessons for her Birthday. For an instant, Jess was once again reminded of a song from the show she'd been watching lately, feeling the weight of its sorrow as acutely as if it were her own. Hopefully, this one's overwhelming sadness was something they could solve, before they really would be drowned under a flood again...

But theirs was not an easy victory, as the young woman and her companion would soon realize. For with every step, Seiko could feel her frustration growing--neither left nor right, here nor there, not a single tulip was to be had! The further the pair trekked, the more Seiko doubted herself. Were they even headed in the right direction. What if she was wrong about the riddle? Her eyes fell on Aiolia. The Little Cub radiated conviction, undaunted as he pressed onward the swaths of cosmos. Seiko shook her head. No. I can't back down--not if Aiolia's sure we can do this. The two thus carried on, pausing only to momentarily scrutinize the plots of flowers at either side. Some were flamboyant, others dainty--then there was the apply-named "Litleo's Tail", which elicited smiles from the trainer and her partner. Aiolia's resolve was contagious; Seiko was certain that were closing in on the prize.... The young woman collided with something, jarring her from reverie. Something? No, someone. Seiko was about to apologize when the individual, a woman, began to prattle on at a hundred miles a minute. What, Ragecandybars? Buy? No, I--wait! The tulips! As she struggled to process the information thrown at her, Seiko spied Aiolia maneuvering every which way in an attempt to reach the purple blossoms which had nearly escaped her notice. But this Eileen, true to form, just wasn't letting up, and so the flowers remained out of her grasp. Seiko would've given her money--anything to go away. Then she heard the asking price... and choked. She coughed. "Um, well, I... sorry, but y'see I'm...," Think, think! "Allergic! Yes, I'm terribly allergic to Ragecandybars. Can't handle the stuff." |

"Jotaro, I need you to do me a favor," Hiero said, gently lowering the tiny Sunkern into a make-shift hole in the soil. He covered it slightly, making sure the sprout was sticking out upright. "We need to help this little one. Go gather some water from the nearby waterfall into your dish, and bring it back - we need to water it to make sure it can heal and get the proper nutrients it needs to grow." The Lombre agreed, nodding in acknowledgement. He saluted his trainer and leapt toward the waterfall briskly. "With any luck," the trainer said, "this should help patch you up." |

Staring blankly ahead, Drew couldn't help but agree. He and Rotom had just regrouped to share their load of nothing, when... well, whatever you would call a troupe of spontaneously dancing men happened. Entranced despite himself at their rather energetic performance, Drew's head slowly tilted to the side. No, no way you can actually bend like that... Beside him, Rotom had continued on his profanity laden tirade, promising some poor soul a Thunderbolt to the ass for making them search 'the entire fucking lawn for a literal blade of goddamn grass.' "...Especially when these bozos come out of fucking nowhere and start dancing around it! And don't get me started on that sound system; it was working fine when I phased through-" Both man and Pokémon froze at those last words, a realization hitting each. Slowly Drew turned to glare at the Rotom. "When you what? Exactly?" Suddenly a whole lot more interested in the dancing men - or at least in not looking Drew's way - Rotom waffled a bit before responding. "I would like to pre-emptively claim this is not my fault." "That isn't an answer." "Well, I may or may not have phased through a sound system that may or may not be spontaneously blaring dance music that strange men may or may not be dancing to around the goddamn blade of grass we may or may not-" "Oh stop," Drew muttered, running a hand down his face. "Okay, so we gotta get past them to the..." A sigh. "Blade of grass. How hard can it be?" ... Apparently, it can be very hard. Trying to slip between the dancers only led to some creative dancing-cum-dodging on Drew's part. And yes, apparently you can actually bend like that. "Okay, new plan:" Drew proposed as they regrouped (or rather when Rotom stopped snickering) a distance from the dancing men, "stop them from dancing-" That perked Rotom up, electricity crackling along his body. "Ooh! I can do ‘zat!" he said gleefully in a bad accent. "-without getting us arrested," Drew finished. "So, no, no Thunderbolting relatively innocent men." The Electric-type pouted. "You ruin all my fun." "Yes, yes I do." Studying both the men dancing and the men failing to stop the music, Drew debated what strategy to use. Eliminating the option of physically stopping the men - because lawsuits - that only left a couple options… "Okay, I'm thinking we take out the music they stop. So, then, we just got to stop that sound system from working. Think you can do that?" "Drew, I'm a Rotom," the Ghost-type deadpanned, as if that explained everything. Which, yeah, it kind of did. "Good, so you phase into it and-" He froze midsentence. A palm connected with his forehead. "I am an idiot." "No disagreement here," Rotom hummed, unsure where Drew was going with this but always willing to be a little shit. Drew looked over at Rotom, "You are a ghost." "I prefer the term poltergeist but yes." "You can phase through the men and get to the blade of grass." Rotom blinked. "Oh, huh. Yeah. Didn't even think of that." The trainer grinned. "So you do that and completely bypass those men, and get the clue! And then if-slash-when it inevitably goes wrong we have a back-up plan in you possessing the sound system and forcibly stopping it. Preferably without irreparable damage but, eh, by that point beggars can't be choosers," Drew finished with a shrug. |

Lucas – After searching everything extremely thoroughly up to this point, you were pretty annoyed to finally find the clue only to have a random man hold you back from grabbing it. Deciding not to be rude, you tell Horologie to use her Mindpower in order to pull the envelope over to you. It’s not like that guy would believe you if you tried to convince him anyway so this is probably your best option. Horologie walks up to the wet cements edge, positioning herself between you and the man, and begins to concentrate on that envelope. She begins to lift it up very gently at first in order to make sure the flowers that it was sitting in aren’t disturbed. The envelope is now floating in the air and slowly coming closer. “Aha!” The man exclaims and slaps Horologie’s rear, breaking her concentration, causing the envelope to drop onto the wet cement. At this point it is actually close enough for you to grab but you look over at the man first, who is incoherently mumbling to himself and seems to be so lost in thought that he probably didn’t even realize what he just did. Turning back to the envelope, you bend down and pull it out of the wet cement, the envelope now has a layer of the cement caked on it but at least you managed to grab the clue. Handling it with care in order to not get your own hands covered in cement, you slowly open the envelope and pull out your next clue. “In the forest I got it, so I sat down to seek it, since I couldn’t find it, I took it home with me. What is it?” Alex – Knowing that it’s probably not a good idea to have your Pokemon attack the Pansage you instead try to think of a way to knock it out of the tree without attacking it directly. Once again, Pridwen uses its barbs to give you an idea only this time you were the one being poked instead of a leaf. Painful as it may have been, it still managed to get the point across and it wasn’t long before you had an idea. After explaining the plan to Pridwen, he prepared himself to go through with it and seemed to be pretty happy with this plan since he seemed to like any chance he could to use his barbs. He effortlessly began to roll up the tree but was more careful when it came to the branch, slowly easing his way out to line himself up beneath the Pansage. This has grabbed the Pokemon’s attention and it takes a moment to stop playing with the envelope, tucking it under its arm, in order to watch what Pridwen is up to. Once he was satisfied with his location, he bagan to use Gyro Ball to shake the branch. The Pansage seemed to be really good at balancing, despite the unsteady branch beneath his feet, so Pridwen began to make his move even stronger. Perhaps he got a little carried away because the branch eventually gives, the Pansage saw this coming and leaps off the branch grabbing onto another branch above it, this causes the envelope that was tucked under his arm to fall so it seems the plan was still a success. However, the branch did break while Pridwen was still attached to it so he lands with a thud and a branch stuck to his head, he seems to be alright though. You then reach down to pick up the envelope and open it up in order to read the contents. “With or without words I can portray, it depends on the author whether or not I lead the way.” Rorik – Taking a moment to process this situation, you come up with many different ideas but you just couldn’t see any of them working out. Finally, after a lot of thinking, it hits you! You have managed to come up with something that actually might work and begin to whisper the plan to your Staryu. Staryu takes a moment to observe the Psyduck who are stomping around and kicking their feet every which way, and is somewhat concerned with how this is going to turn out for it. But, it seems to be your only option and Staryu doesn’t want to let you down so after taking a moment to mentally prepare, it uses Minimize to the fullest making itself extra tiny. Now in its small form, the Psyduck feet all seem to be that much more intimidating, if it gets stepped on it’s surely going to hurt. It bounces in place a few times to pep itself up before it takes off spinning through the air at full speed weaving in and out of the Psyduck’s legs. Once it thinks it has made it through it lets its guard down for a moment, which was a moment too soon, and one of the Psyduck ends up hitting Staryu with the back of its foot. The force of the hit causes Staryu to be thrown through the air and into the hedges on the other side. Staryu becomes full size again in order to get out of the hedge, it didn’t go perfectly but at least they did make it to the other side. Staryu leans toward the envelope that is resting in the lavender and lifts it up causing a piece of paper to fall out and onto the ground. Using Psywave it relays the message that is written on the paper to you and then minimizes itself once again and rejoins you on the other side of the Psyduck. The message you received was as follows: “It’s so weak that a little wind can move it. It’s so strong that you can cut it with a knife and leave no track.” Please post your reply by August 27th. After coming up with an answer to the riddle, state the answer in your response and which area you plan to explore. Melissa – After splitting up with Vine in order to cover more ground quickly, you both come up empty handed since it would seem that this entire area is covered in sun. That is, except for the gazebo which you had saved for last. It is the only place that the sun doesn’t manage to hit because of the roof causing a nice shade inside so Vine huffs and brings your attention that way, toward the ‘tree’ blocking the entrance. He prepares himself for a fight as you approach as his tail becomes aqua in color. You stand in front of the unmoving Sudowoodo and think the situation through a bit first, explaining to Vine that attacking the Pokemon would probably upset the queen. You take a moment to consider asking one of the gardeners if you could borrow the watering can but decide that maybe this Pokemon should be given a chance to move on its own without resorting to force. The Sudowoodo continues to look around uncomfortably as you ask it to move while letting it know you will resort to water if you have to. The Pokemon glaces over at Vine who is staring it straight in the eyes while wagging it’s Aqua Tail back and forth. Finally, the stillness is broken as the Sudowoodo makes a loud gulp sound out of nervousness and it begins to move aside. You use that opportunity to walk past it and enter the gazebo with Vine following you from behind. The Sudowoodo, however, wasn’t finished and extended its foot out just in time for Vine to trip and fall flat on its face. You are completely oblivious to that because you saw an envelope sitting on a bench and were too busy opening it up to read what’s written inside. “Always in you, sometimes on you; if I surround you, I can kill you.” Jessica – You search the area, looking at all of the rocks very thoroughly, determined to find something that would stand out to you. It seems to be a lot of the same, the rocks are of different sizes but nothing is really distinct, suddenly, your attention is turned to a crying Azurill throwing a little tantrum due to its discomfort. You try speaking to it but the sounds of its wailing is tuning your voice out and the little one doesn’t even react because it probably can’t even hear you. Since that doesn’t seem to be getting you anywhere, you turn to Lilac and ask her if maybe she could play some music for the distressed Pokemon. Lilac seemed to agree that it might work, plus she had received lessons recently so her music was now passable while it wasn’t before. She takes a deep breath and then begins, a lovely calming melody begins to play out, the sound is loud enough to cover the entire rock garden but it’s still very calming. The Azurill’s tantrum continues only for a few moments more until it begins to actually listen to the melody. Becoming quieter and less bouncy, the little blue Pokemon seems to be enjoying this song and is now staring at you while letting out a little sniffle here and there. Finally, as the song continues the little Pokemon has a big smile grow across its face and then it happily leaps into the water beside it, swimming away. Lilac continues to play her song as the Azurill seems to bob up and down in the water to the music, it seems Lilac really managed to cheer it up. Now that the shiny rocks that Azurill was sitting on are left all on their own you take this opportunity to dig through them a bit since they actually do stand out in a way. Moving the pile around you find an envelope sitting at the bottom of it. It seems you’ve found the next clue! You grab the envelope and open it up in order to read what’s inside. “Where can you rest but aren’t allowed to sleep?” Hiero – After being forced out of the throne room by the stench of some very unhappy Gloom, you make your way to the sunflowers that are slightly spaced apart down the path toward the Rock Garden. As you walk further down the path, Jotaro brings your attention toward a shriveled up Sunkern that was clearly forcefully dug out of the dirt. Immediately feeling sorry for the small fragile looking Pokemon in front of you, you jump in to help, carefully picking it up in your hands doing your best to be as gentle as possible. You explain what you need from Jotaro as you very carefully burry the Sunkern in a makeshift hole you created in the soil. Jotaro understands and runs over to the waterfall as quickly as his legs would carry him and leans into the falling water in order to collect as much as he could inside of the dish on top of his head. He begins to return at a brisk pace while being careful to not spill all of the water on his way. “Flora flora flora!” A determined looking Sunflora runs past Jotaro while speaking with each step, it’s leaf arms are held out in front of it but don’t appear to be carrying anything. You watch as the Sunflora reaches your area, taking only a second to acknowledge you and the fact that the Sunkern is now buried before tilting its arms toward the Sunkern’s spot and only one tiny drop of water slides off and onto the dirt. The Sunflora looks momentarily defeated but then Jotaro makes it onto the scene and begins to pour a generous amount of water from his head and onto the little sprout that is sticking out of the ground, giving it plenty to drink. The Sunflora begins to smile wide and dances in celebration, it was having a hard time keeping the water in its arms on the way from the waterfall to the sunkern so it was very happy for the help. Once its dance was over, it disappeared between some sunflowers nearby and then returned with an envelope, handing it to you. It seems to be rewarding you with your clue for making it so happy by helping its friend. You open up the envelope and pull out the paper and begin reading. “What is a Ghost-type’s favorite plant?” Please post your reply by August 27th. After coming up with an answer to the riddle, state the answer in your response and which area you plan to explore. |

War of the Roses Team Tsareena Refer to the previous description of Tsareena's domain here. Additionally, you may find the location of your next riddle in this section of the post. Good luck! Though they were unable to see almost anything, Chroma and her Tangrowth Berue kindly offered a hand to the exasperated man. There is a lot of sputtering, both from the man and the machine. “UH. UM.” He panics. More beeping and clicking noises come from the machine as he continues to try and fix it. “OH LET’S UNPLUG IT?!” The man exclaims. Then came the loud sound of him slipping and crashing to the ground. He moans in pain and wriggles around on the ground to find the machine’s power cord.. Chroma and Berue take their search to the ground as well. After pulling at patches of grass and even some of Berue’s vines, there is the sound of the machine powering down. The water vapor in the air begins to clear slowly, and the three of them are just barely able to see. The man, careful not to slip again, rises with the cord in his hand. “Um…Thanks…” Said the flustered man, who looked just as absent-minded as Persimmon. He scratched his head and wondered aloud how he could go about clearing all this moisture. He seemed to remember something and reached into his pocket with difficulty. He pulled out a piece of paper, thoroughly soaked by the humidity. He looks embarrassed as he hands it over. “Oh yeah uhhh this is for you…hope you can read it still…” On the paper, though the ink was running, read the following: If you take a photo of this, it might look quite grainy. The guard’s eyes widened in disbelief as Alice questioned him. He looked a little hurt, too. He lifted a shaking arm to his head and wiped off the sweat beading on his forehead. Alice felt some of it splash against her legs. Alice made other suggestions to him, but the man just shook his head sadly. Farren’s Pin Missile soared past the man’s head and into the tree. The guard flinches, but then looks relieved that the attack was not meant for him. The Pineco retrieves the Pinap berry and loyally presents it to his trainer. There is nothing particularly special about it, and the strangely spicy juice flows out of the berry and onto Ferran’s spines. Using the tree as support, the guard lifts himself to his feet. He looks Alice straight in the eye and opens his mouth a couple times as he thinks of what to say. His eyebrows are furrowed in frustration, but he looks like he can barely focus on his own thoughts. After a few moments, he sighs deeply. “Just…take this.” The guard reached into his breast pocket and retrieved a folded note. After shoving it into Alice’s hands, he shuffles off toward the smoothie shack, glaring at her and her Pineco the entire way. As he approaches the line, someone seems to recognize him and lets him join them farther up in the queue. Even after the guard gets his extra-large smoothie, he is still glaring in Alice’s direction. Alice and Ferran unfold the sweaty piece of paper. It reads: What kind of room has no doors or windows? Back at Tsareena’s throne room, Persimmon sits against a tree, scribbling notes into a field journal. A pile of discarded notes was forming next to him each time he made a mistake. He had recently been studying the effects of weather on the local Grass Pokemon, and was writing furiously about the recent behavior of Cherubi and Cherrim he had seen climbing to the very tops of berry trees on sunny days such as this one. He had also included drawings, Punnett squares, equations, and stains of coffee and ketchup from the sandwich he had been eating. “…determination…survival of the fittest…adaptation…carrying capacity…” Persimmon mouths as he writes. A tap on his shoulder from the tall Queen Tsareena brought him back to reality. She held out a piece of paper to him with the name ‘Elka’ on it. Persimmon squinted through his glasses at it, then took the paper gently out of the Queen’s hands. He thanked her with a nod and a nervous laugh. Tsareena seemed amused, flipped the hair-like petals on her head, then returned to a comfortable spot on her throne. Her Stenee servants offered her a glass of fresh Combee Honey with a Razz berry swirl. “Oh yeah...we need to get this to her somehow,” Persimmon remarked. He bookmarked his field journal on a page detailing a certain fungus that had been attacking the garden’s palm trees. Flipping the paper over, Persimmon mumbled Elka’s next riddle aloud: I have a red cap on my head, and a stone in my throat. Please post your reply by August 27th. After coming up with an answer to the riddle, state the answer in your response and which area you plan to explore. Team Roserade Refer to the previous description of Roserade's domain here. Additionally, you may find the location of your next riddle in this section of the post. Good luck! As soon as Eileen hears the word ‘allergic’, she quickly closes the case of Ragecandybars and her demeanor changes. The woman’s bright smile become a stern, thin line. Then a look of horror spreads across her face. Her numbers were already low this month, and there was no way she could risk a potential lawsuit at this point. Aiolia starts to cough as convincingly as possible. Eileen backs away from the suddenly sick Litleo. She started to feel sick to her stomach. Were allergies contagious? “Terribly sorry. I have to go.” The business woman avoids making any further eye contact with Seiko. She pulls out a business card to hand over, but then realizes that she doesn’t want to give any evidence. If this girl and her Pokemon suffocated to death right in front of her, she would be outed as the culprit right away. Now she was feeling light headed. Was it getting hot in here? “I was never here. Goodbye.” Eileen stutters out. In pointed heels that sink into the soft earth of the garden, she scurries away. The woman makes it to a picket-fence, and skillfully scales it. The Litleo and his trainer finally get a chance to approach the flowers they were after. Seiko realizes that they have now entered a large section of tulips in different shades of purple and blue. The flowers create a neat square, with a blank patch of grass in the middle. Aiolia spots an envelope gently placed in the center, and retrieves it for his trainer. Inside the envelope is a slip of paper that reads: My head bobs lazily in the sun. You think I’m cute, For my face is yellow, My hair is white, and my body is green. The dancing men around Rotom and Drew only got faster and flashier with their moves. The two quickly discuss a plan before Drew is suddenly grabbed by the hand and whisked into the dance himself, sent twirling down the line of orange shirted performers. At the end of the line they spin him the other way, laughing and singing along to the song. Taking advantage of its ghostly abilities, Rotom easily floated into the group of men and past their fast-moving legs. It plucked the blade from its place in the ground and headed out back to Drew, who was now recovering form dizziness on the ledge of a nearby fountain. The water rushed out of the mouth of a sculpted Buizel, landing in a round, clear pool. Upon reaching its trainer, the piece of grass was no longer in Rotom’s possession. Rotom could of course pass through anything as a ghost, but grass was still tied to this world. The answer to their riddle lay in the middle of the field, being stomped all over by dancing feet. The music came to an abrupt stop. At the table with the speakers and laptop, the tech staff continued to bicker about who was responsible. The dancers finished in a prepared posed, then jogged back off the field as if nothing had happened. One headed straight for Drew and his Pokemon, passing off some kind of paper into his lap. Drew took a moment to regain his senses, then took a look at the envelope he had been given. Inside was a wrinkled paper that had the following: What runs around the whole yard without moving? Before Sypher could do or say anything, a loud shriek rang through the air. “CHILRDREN! WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU DOING!” Screamed a woman with a bleached, ‘can I speak to your manager’ haircut. The three children simultaneously let go of Jill, who flew safely back to Sypher’s arms. Each mumbled some kind of apology and looked down at the ground. “JUST WAIT UNTIL YOUR FATHER HEARS ABOUT THIS!” The woman continued. She pointed behind her sternly and the three kids hurried away. The oldest one scooped up the young girl as she started to cry. Hoping the worst was over, Sypher went back to obtaining the answer to his riddle. “AND YOU!” The trainer was stopped by the angry woman pointing a manicured finger in his face. “How DARE you let my children fight like that! You should watch your Pokemon more closely. What if they had gotten hurt!” After some huffing and puffing, the woman stormed away. She gathered up all three of her children, put the youngest in a stroller, and went off to go find someone to complain to. On the way there, she tripped over a garden hose which only made her fume more. She looked back to Sypher and the Ranger as if they had been the ones to place it there. The Ranger shrugged, as if she had seen this kind of thing before, and asked Sypher if he needed anything. As she handed him a brochure, Sypher noticed that she slipped an envelope between the pages. He opened it up, revealing a slip of paper. The paper read: I only exist when you are here. Where you never were, I can never be. What am I? Please post your reply by August 27th. After coming up with an answer to the riddle, state the answer in your response and which area you plan to explore. |

Meanwhile, Kei’s idea worked, he may have been called a coward but that type of thing has never bothered him anyway, since usually it was true. Just not today. After finishing his dance, he went in with his punches, he managed to hit the opponent but also suffered a critical blow. That hit hurt. A lot. But he wasn’t about to give up since he wasn’t fighting for himself. That’s when he engulfs his entire body in flames and prepares to charge at the Mankey while it’s still trying to catch its breath with a Flame Wheel. And just in case this plan doesn’t work out, he prepares himself to follow that up with another Brick Break. He knows he can do this and has no intention of giving in.

As the contents of the paper were mentally relayed to him, Rorik adjusted his glasses, lost in thought. All this was becoming strangely reminiscent of his trip to Cloud Garden’s Stone Shrine… As he pondered on the new riddle, Staryu made its way back over to the Professor, then stood motionless while he tried to decipher the charade. Until it grew tired of waiting, that is, and blasted Rorik in the face with a squirt of Water Gun. “H-hey!!What on earth was that fo… oh. Ooooh!” The answer dawned on him mere seconds after Staryu’s provocation – or what he initially assumed to be a provocation, but quickly realized was actually the answer to the riddle. Water. Of course, it makes perfect sense… It seems Staryu trumped me this time around! It could be argued that the starfish was naturally attuned to the element that was also the riddle’s answer, but there was no denying it was also revealing itself capable of quick critical thinking. Did it always have that ability, or was Rorik’s own intellectual prowess starting to rub off on his Pokémon? If Munchlax is anything to go by… probably not. Now that he’d found the answer, all that remained was to locate the physical representation of that answer. And now that he thought about it, he did recall the sound of splashing somewhere along the way inside the maze of hedges… Fortunately, Staryu also seemed to recall this, or perhaps it simply sensed the presence of water with more ease than a human would. Taking initiative, it led Rorik back to where they’d come from, almost to the very entrance of the maze, but instead continuing onwards until the ground turned to concrete – the road they would’ve taken if they had turned left instead of right upon first entering Lilligant’s domains. From there, they kept going, until a small fountain with a Petilil statue came into view. “I see… well Staryu, time to see if your hunch is as right as I suspect it to be!”
