Mewtwo Expert Trainer Battle: Treepandaone vs. lilbluecorsola

It was getting colder now as Autumn was well under way with a bitter wind making people pull out their winter coats and thick jumpers. Fizzytopia's Energos Quarry stood in the dwindling light with the erected spot lights beaming bright lights over the arena ready for a battle. There were many machinery and discarded drums and large boulders lying around with those who abandoned the quarry many years ago. Now it was used for battling Pokemon, the battles here could be vicious if the equipment was used against the other. Two trainers made their way towards the deep quarry greeting each other before finding the safest way down to the arena floor towards the referee who was sporting a purple hard-hat with a diamonte ghost on the front. The trainers manoeuvre around the rubble and machinery as the referee smiles at them.

"Welcome to you both, I can see that you have a great battle planned out with your chosen Pokemon. We shall see which evolution is best in the arena meant for rock types. Remember to be careful here as rocks may fall, here wear these to protect you," she hands Jess and blue hard hat with a blue and white Corsola on the front and she hands Matthew a bronze hard hat with a Sheildon on the front.

"Okay lets go over the rules"
Treepandaone vs. lilbluecorsola
Expert Trainer Battle (Pokemon from Lv’s 76-100 used only)
1 vs. 1
72 Hr DQ Period
Arena: Fizzytopia's Energos Quarry: An electromagnetic field surrounds this abandoned quarry giving Electric Types who battle here a power boost. A "pit" of sorts, the quarry is approximately 20m x 20m wide at its lowest point, the steep slopes surrounding it around 15 metres high. The quarry is filled with ores and debris as well as some abandoned machinery while small boulders and tons of rubble line its sides. Any Pokémon with strength enough to lift the boulders are able to use them as weapons.
She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Treepandaone to Heads and lilbluecorsola to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Tails".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:
– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round.
- I will then ref the first round.
- lilbluecorsola will then order their attacks for the next round.
- Treepandaone then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!
"Love can rock you
Never stop you
Ah Ah Ah Ah
Love is like a rock"

Thanks for taking it Arc and good luck Lilblue! I'm sure we'll have a great fight. Let the best Rhy win :P.

Standing atop an Aerodactyl Matthew Brown prepared himself for battle, stand-meditating on the martial art teachings, moving his body as the Aerodactyl moved through the skies to avoid the clouds, shifting his body in anticipation after finally mastering Aerodactyl surfing. The rock-type cawed with affection as it got a chance to spread its wings, swooping through the air as it saw a lone Pidgey flying through the sky, a sharp yell from the young trainer stopping it from picking up a tasty morsel of a snack.

Matthew anticipated the battle like any other, but this was a special one; a chance to meet a friend and battle for the first time, many a scrap happening in the Fizzy Bubbles bar but no real winner was announced. He knew that this was the time for Odin, his starter Pokémon and special comrade, to show Rocky truly powerful he was. Mentally, the young man prepared himself, making notes of strategy and move-sets of both Pokémon, knowing he too would have to play his part and he couldn't afford to mess up in this match.

The match had been organised before today and Matthew had spent it honing his and Rhyperiors battling technique, the usually powerful Pokémon working on smaller movements to increase his fighting skills, knowing that they would need it in such a titanic clash. Although they were not as strong as Rhyperior each member of Matthew's team chipped in, lending their powers to help the Rhyperior improve.

Matthew felt Aerodactyl's muscles tense, opening his eyes to see clouds whiz past at an extraordinary rate, the descent to his destination close. After a quick nose-dive through the clouds Matthew saw the quarry from the sky, the wide open spaced pit the setting for this rock-throw down. Aerodactyl's speed lessened with each section of the descent before slowing to a reasonable pace some metres off the ground; Matthew jumping off and sticking the landing, withdrawing Aerodactyl mid-air as his feet thumped against the ground, moving the trainer to a crouched position.

A Pokéball popped involentarily from his leather jacket to reveal a Togepi on the side-lines, holding up a small card with the inscription '10.0' written on it, a clear signal that everyone was getting involved for this battle. Matthew's face blushed a bright red as he withdrew the Togepi, thanking it for its efforts with the amazing card and the more than bias judge rating.

He smiled as he saw Jessica standing across from him, looking equally ready to get the battle started. He was called over to the referee as he bowed with respect, getting a Shieldon helmet to prevent head injuries during the battle.

“I'm going to have to pilfer this”, the trainer thought to himself, sure that Hermes would appreciate his likeness.

Matthew shook Jessica's hand before putting his game face back on, turning on his heels and walking to his corner. Withdrawing his Rhyperior, Matthew Brown fist-bumped the hyper up Pokémon as it snorted with anticipation, clutching a Shed Shell in its grasp. Now was the time. Surely his opponent would forget about the one major advantage Rhyperior has over Rhydon; the Solid Rock ability, the ability that allows Rhyperior to take less damage from super effective attacks.

“I think she'll start out with a powering up move so hit it with an Earth Power to make it feel to power of offence. Then use a Dig to avoid Rocky's next attack and hit it from underneath before finally Dynamic Punching it into the Stone Age.”

He gave his orders to his rocky soldier, a customary thumbs up following.

Jess sighed as she stretched out on her Rhydon's backside, staring lazily up at the sky as he stomped diligently towards their destination. It had been a while since she had ridden Rocky like this, just the two of them. Despite the pair's relaxed nature, there was tension in the air. Static. Stone. Today they would be facing two of their toughest opponents yet: a boy named Matthew and his Rhyperior.

Jess smiled to recall their first meeting. Recognizing a senior of the same species, a young Rhyhorn had once gotten into a scuffle with the normally passive Rocky for position of alpha male. Since then, RhyperBea- er, Odin had grown tremendously, perhaps even surpassing Rocky in a sense. Still, she patted her Pokémon, pleased with his current stature. He purred in response.

Carefully, they maneuvered around discarded machinery. Signs that humans had once worked here, now only sad leftovers, stripped of pride. Jess wondered briefly why the area had been abandoned - perhaps it had been deemed dangerous? If so, what were they doing here? ...She decided not to dwell too deeply on the matter.

Approaching the field, she could feel her hair start to stand on end from the energy in the earth. Though bereft of activity on the surface, the soil still hummed with life. Jess quickly accepted the referee's offer of a hard hat to hide the frizz, eagerly donning the custom Corsola-themed cap. She then turned to Matthew to shake hands and wish him luck before assuming her spot. Years had passed since she had last seen the boy, so when she heard he had returned from his absence she wished to be one of the first to welcome him - with a battle to test both their strengths, and prove once and for all who was the better boulder beast.

"All right, Rocky, it's been some time since we've fought, so let's start out slow by WORKing UP those muscles first. Then, MUD-SLAP some of that debris into his eyes, and blast him with ICY WIND!"

Both trainer sure knew how to make an entrance, Matthew flying atop his Aerodactyl before landing gracfeully in the arena and dismounting and Jess riding atop her Pokemon for this battle, the Rhydon easily carrying her weight all the way to the arena as she gracefully lands on the ground. The referee was very impressed, these were two strong trainers with strong Pokemon indeed and ... did that Rhydon purr??? 0o Anyway, she explains the rules and both trainers appear to appreciate their specially made hard hats and they take their places in their trainer boxes. Rocky was already out and ready to take on his evolution. Matthew sends the Rhyperior called Odin out and he roars happy to be in such an environment. Both trainers show their sportsmanship and exchange words of luck before the battle began!

Rocky begins to boost his attack and special attack by Working Up the red hue fading as he finishes, he sure looks stronger now! Odin was prepared for this and ready to go on the attack from the word go. He glows gold and pumps ground energy into the Earth, infusing it with his Power and sends the shockwaves right towards the Rhydon. Cracks sneak their way towards Rocky before gold energy erupts underneath him sending him up in the air and landing back down with a crash, that ... really ... hurt!

Rocky gets back to his feet growling and whips his tail along the ground picking up the debris and grit and sends it Rhyperior's way. He had already began to Dig but the attack catches his hide but doesn't get in his eyes and he was soon under the ground. Rocky growls as he observes the ground beneath him, where was the beast? Suddenly he pops out of the earth knocking Rocky off his feet again and dealing more super effective damage.

Odin was feeling a little cocky, he was all over his pre-evolved form and now to seal the deal with another hard hit. He pulls his fist back and it glows red as he prepares his Dynamic Punch Rocky is back on his feet and grunts before breathing in deep. Odin charges back in towards Rocky just as he releases his Icy Wind. He shudders in pain at the cold and miss-fires' his punch smashing a boulder into thousands of pieces, that didn't go to plan!

OoC - Sorry for the delay, guys. x.X Reply's not so great, but I just want to get my orders in. =x

Jessica winced as she watched Rocky eroded by the earth, half of his own element. A scream very nearly even erupted when she saw his rise and fall over sand, reminding her of something… A scene she never wished to witness again…

No. Stop. Enough. That was then, this is now. She couldn’t keep freaking out every tiny trigger. Besides, this was just a battle between friends. Breathe. Believe. Everything will be all right.

While their own ground maneuver had failed, she cheered somewhat to see the ice hit its mark at least. She sighed with relief when the opponent’s final strike slipped and pulverized a boulder instead, but still shook from the thought of impact. Had it struck the sweet spot, they would surely be done for.

Come to think of it, something seemed off about the balance of strength. Certainly, they had started slow, but even the snow surely should’ve done more damage…

She noticed a smirk light Matthew’s lips.

Panic gripped her, and she grabbed her Pokédex (which matched her current headgear). Scanning the opponent’s Pokémon, she gasped and groaned at the entry’s annotation. “Rock Solid”, an ability that granted the bearer partial immunity to super-effective moves. No wonder. She clutched the device, cursing her ignorance of the latest developments in Pokémon discovery. Matthew was mistaken; she hadn’t forgot, she simply never knew in the first place. He had gotten her good.

She bit her lip as Rocky struggled to regain his stance, half of his health already eaten away in one round. It seemed they were having the worst of luck when it came to picking proper matches/fair foes lately. Perhaps all their preparation and training had been for naught.

Still, they couldn’t give up at this point, especially since she was the challenger. If anything, she was impressed by just how strong the small Rhyhorn had become. Perhaps their loss was inevitable, but at the same time it may be time to hand over the torch. They wouldn’t go down without a fight though.

“All right, Rocky, looks like we can’t go easy on these guys anymore. They’ve gotten pretty tough, huh?”

A grunt of affirmation, followed by a grin.

“Let’s give it all we’ve got then. Put on your best SCARY FACE and ROAR to show him who's boss! Then, hit him with your strongest DRAIN PUNCH!”

Matthew gritted his teeth as he watched the battle rage on; the two colossus rock-types engaged in a friendly rivalry that had been there since Matthew had come to the region, his once low leveled Rhyhorn often having small playful rumbles when the two friends met, though Odin had often come out the loser. This time, however, the two were prepared to not let that happen, the young trainer feeling his team had been reborn after his long time away, leading him to change the names to represent their new personalities. As the oldest and most powerful of Matthew's group, the Rhydon formerly known as RhyperBeam had been given the privilege of pertaining the name of the powerful Nose God; the ruler of Asgard.

Many hours had gone into training down at the Oasis by Matthew's snowy snug-away to prepare Rhyperior for this battle, the Pokémon itself waking from its long slumber in order to strengthen his core, laying the foundations for this epic skirmish. Though Odin had fought powerful foes before, conquering an undead Machamp to the battle of a reborn Caiman, this was his true masterpiece, the one opportunity to show the world just how far he had come. Matthew looked in with pride, his head held high.

His search of information had done him justice, preparing for the battle by watching the tapes of Jessica's many wins, the formidable opponent having defeated many trainers with many different Pokémon on her way through the Fizzy Bubbles region, but the strategy that the two had contrived had seemingly come off, knowing that Jessica preferred a boosting move, Matthew and Odin hitting on the counter with an epic Earth Power, the attack dealing major damage and ensuring that they had got off the first blow. The trainer held onto his Sheildon hard hat as rocks flew around the Energos Quarry, narrowly avoiding a large chunk sent up from his Pokémon's attack.

The next move, however, didn't go so swimmingly as the massive rock monster failed to dig quite as quickly as Matthew had anticipated, being blasted on the backside by the Mud Slap causing Matthew to grimace as the Pokémon lost speed. Flashing a worried glance to the hole in which Odin had just disappeared to, Matthew knew that while Rhyperior had gained many things since evolving from Rhydon, speed was not one of those attributes he had in abundance. Watching carefully for any tell-tale signs of movement underground Matthew spotted the Rhyperior burst from the ground, dealing damage and knocking the Rhydon further away, but the killer move of the Dynamic Punch crashed into a rock thanks to the Icy Wind Rhydon had managed to get off. Matthew cursed as he re-thought his strategy, perhaps there was a way to turn the lack of speed into an advantage.

Seeing that his opponent had gotten out a Pokédex, Matthew wondered if she had forgotten or just simply didn't know, after all there was no need for her to if she wasn't going to evolve Rocky. It had played into his hand but as he looked around the battlefield his mind went blank for a plan before finally coming up with a gamble.

“Odin, you won't see the Scary Face if you use a Swords Dance” he shouted, hoping that the spinning movement of the swords dance technique would focus more on spinning that looking at the opponent, “The roar might be less effective too, you're winning by a decent margin and will have an attack boost.”

He considered his options once more, knowing that he would have to deal Rhydon's considerable power. He turned back to the battlefield and looked at his Rhyperior

“Then use that motion to smack Rocky with an Aqua Tail as he comes in for the drain punch, your massive boulder tail will give it some extra kick.” he said, considering the lack of speed verses the time taken to get to Rhyperior “Then finish off the round with a Hammer Arm!”

He gave his Pokémon a thumbs up, but with the Pokémon quite far away he wasn't sure if he saw it. Rhyperior looked transfixed on Rocky, intent on continuing the exciting battle.

Round 2

The first round had not gone well for Jess and Rocky, they had taken a lot of damage already and it looked like Odin was ready to dish out more. Jess had forgotten about Rhyperior's ability Solid Rock that reduced Super Effective damage down, that was not going to help them win this battle. Matthew was happy with how well Odin had fared despite the failed Dynamic Punch. His starter had more tricks up his sleeves and was ready to make quick work of his pre-evolution.

Odin is ready to bring the pain with his Swords Dance but he's slower than Rocky who fixes him with his Scary Face, his frustration and anger showing making Odin hesitate and halter in his attack his speed falling even further. Rocky then follows up with a bellowing Roar that shakes the arena sending a few light rocks falling down the quarry's sides. Odin has a bead of sweat on his face as he trembles slightly, he was wrong to underestimate this Rhydon he was fierce and pissed and he isn't able to perform his Aqua Tail! Rocky was panting hard from his moves, less from energy use more from his anger at how poorly he was fairing. He would sort that out right now! Before Odin can snap out of his stupor Rocky goes charging in towards him his fist glowing green and he slams him with his Drain Punch feeling some of his health return to him.

Odin goes stumbling back wincing in pain holding his side, damn that hurt. He growls at Rocky and lifts his arm above his head as it glows white. Rocky looks up with concern and the Hammer Arm slams down on his head making him roar in pain and fall backwards holding his noggin, okay that hurt more!

Don't want to be a pain but I used Swords Dance instead of Aqua Tail to block the Scary Face then Aqua Tail as Rocky came in for the Drain Punch. Don't know if that changes anything or not but I thought the spinning would negate the scary face.

Sorry, its the purple text its so hard to read =/
Odin is still too slow so its first two moves would be blocked by the Scary Face/Roar combo but I'll edit my post anyway.

Sorry about the colour :x

As the battle raged on between these two powerhouses Matthew bit his lip in anxiousness, the counter-attacks had actually been counter-intuitive and he was on the receiving end of another bout of anti-speed. He cursed at the Scary Face, not knowing that it both stopped the opponent and lowered speed, the newfangled attack being one he possessed but knew little about. Odin had stopped dead in his tracks because of the angry Rhydon and had not completed the swords dance Matthew had made pivotal in his attack; instead standing there hesitating.

A few seconds later a Roar filled the arena, Matthew dodging the light rocks falling down the quarry, one hand firmly held on his head. Thank the deities that he had been provided with the nifty safety hat, the Shieldon coloured helmet certainly providing protection, both psychically and mentally, for the young trainer.

A pair of attacks collided giving Matthew reason to cheer once more, Odin taking the drain punch while giving a Hammer Arm in return, but he once again was on the bad end of speed loss, taking Odin down to a level where he really didn't want to be. Matthew thought for a few seconds about his battle plan, owing extra time for priority vs. speed loss, but was at a loss himself as what to do. He settled, in the end, for a much simpler strategy than he had used before, the overcompensation of thinking had led him down the strayed path into trouble before and this was certainly no time to visit it again.

“Okay Odin, Earth Power on the double.” he yelled, his Rhyperior gruntng back in recognition, “follow that up with an Iron Tail. Then Secret Power to finish the round.”

He gave his Pokémon a thumbs up, eluding to a confidence that deep down he didn't have, knowing that his orders hadn't been so good last round, worrying about the quality of them this round too.

Jess risked a sigh of relief when she saw Rocky survive another round. In fact, she swelled with pride at such a show of strength that scared even one in a superior position. Rocky’s appearance might not be as intimidating, but they still had seniority – not to mention smarts – on their side. Perhaps there was a chance to win after all.

Though the hammer came crashing down on Rocky’s head and his trainer winced alongside, a slight sense of triumph stirred as she noted the Rhyperior’s further decline of speed. Even with priority, he was (probably) practically a sitting duck at this point. She could discern Matthew struggling to determine his next step, seeming to deem that deliberating only led to defeat. She smiled. The boy had been smart to study her strategy and counter with simple offense, but the opponent’s haste (and current lack thereof) might just prove to be his downfall.

Speaking of strategies… What would her own be? Should she try and take advantage of the Rhyperior’s deceleration to deliver the first blow? She didn’t like the way he eyed the sand though, prepared for any sudden shift… Jess did some quick calculations based on her observations from the first bout. Although Rocky had managed to gain some spirit back, any retaliation could prove fatal at this point. She needed to remain calm. Though she had previously considered copying Matthew’s method of unleashing all hell last round in revenge, keeping cool and clever had turned out to be the correct decision. In that case…

If tried and true tactics had succeeded so far despite some setbacks, then maybe it was time to truly trust in her instincts. It was a gamble, certainly, but it had saved her hide so many times before, or at least gotten her close to victory. Even if it didn’t knock the opponent out immediately, if her predictions were right… She caught the eye of her stone soldier, who slowly nodded, knowing her intent. No need to worry. He could take it. If there was anything either of them excelled at, it was winning through sheer stubbornness attrition.

“Rocky, buckle down and ENDURE the blows as best you can, then return your rage in full with REVERSAL!”

She crossed her fingers. If she were wrong and Odin still somehow managed to get the primary strike in before they could prepare, she hoped Rocky’s extra health would at least provide some insurance. And even if the resulting damage wasn’t enough, surely with this they would be safe at least until the next round. As long as Rocky was still standing, then they’d be in the perfect position to hit a home run. Slow and steady wins the race after all…

Round 3

It looked as though Rocky was simply outmatched against his evolution, Odin was waling all over him and he still had over 50% on his health left. Odin was tremendously slower now so Rocky could take advantage of that and get in the first blow but Jess had other ideas, it could be suicidal but it was worth a shot. Matthew was going to finish off the battle quickly, his Odin couldn't fail with his attacks. The Rhyperior pumps ground energy into the ground and his Earth Power erupts underneath Rocky throwing him into the air where he lands with a thud. He manages to get back to his feet and a light white glow was surrounding him. Odin looks shocked, how could Rocky still be standing after that? He charges steel energy into his tail and whacks Rocky with his Iron Tail knocking him back but he still remains standing though looking a little green around the gills. Odin blinks in shock, this Endure was sure a powerful move to keep the Rhydon standing after those two super effective hits. He finishes the round with a Secret Power unfortunately with no secondary effects.

Rocky looks up with a wicked glint in his eyes, he felt like he was about to drop but he knew now was him time to exact his revenge. He roars as he goes charging in before grabbing Odin with surprising strength and throwing him with his Reversal sending him crashing into a set of drums and sliding into the side of the mountain. Odin has his eyes closed and the referee has to get in close to see if he was still conscious. He grunts and opens an eye looking battered with his plates dented in multiple places, he was badly injured but still able to fight. She backed off as he slowly got back to his feet panting in pain matching Rocky who looked about ready to drop.

Jessica sucked in her breath when the SECRET POWER struck – and released when she saw Rocky still standing, fortunately without any secondary side effects. Though the resulting scratch was slight in comparison to previous assaults, such a wild card had surprisingly been the worst of her worries.

Despite the fact he looked near about to faint, Rocky reared his head and finally exacted his revenge, hefting Odin by the tail and hurling him straight into a set of drums. Despite having to duck to avoid ensuing debris, the crescendo of a crash was music to Jessica’s ears as she cheered her Rhydon’s might. She quieted as the ref approached the crater to check on Odin’s consciousness. He stirred, and finally managed to stand, although now looking just as worse for wear as his opponent.

Red eyes met, registered. The strength of the other. There was no denying. The two were match for match. But still, there was little doubt who would emerge victorious, and who would go home in defeat. The behemoths were matched in might now, certainly, but not in speed. And therein lay the secret to the blue team’s looming success. The veteran trainer had drawn on her own experience to precisely gauge the time, knowing when to wait for stars to align. Patience had paid off, and now the tide had turned fully in their favor. Jess sighed, smiling smugly but also sympathetically at the boy across from her. The greenhorns had grown tremendously, and had given the girl and her Rhydon a run for their money. But they refused to give up the title of King of the Mountain just yet.

Sorry.

Her mouth moved silently.

“Let’s end this, Rocky. Unleash an EARTHQUAKE before he knows what hit him! Shake up the entire arena so he can’t escape! If he’s somehow still standing after that, put him in SUBMISSION and slam him with SEISMIC TOSS!”

She grinned and gave the floor to Matthew Brown. By all means the battle wasn’t over yet, and if Matthew managed to pull a miracle at this point, she’d like to see it. If so, they would graciously accept the loss. Who knew, perhaps premature pleasure would be their own undoing. Slow and steady wins the race, but so does pride goeth before a fall.

Did Rocky survive all three attacks with endure, because the wording sounds like it survived Earth Power and Iron Tail due to endure then secret power had no power so to speak.

Also is there a -chance per each attack like the PASBL description per move used because of the 3 attacks? Also is the -53% health reversal because it used Endure or is it the standard health reduction of a 1% health Pokemon?

Just asking so I know in future.

Sorry if my wording is off, when Endure is used it tries to brace against all attacks in the round so it endured the Secret Power too. Had you'd gotten a status effect it would have probably finished him off.
Reversal has a 100% hit rate normally and reduced by 25% minimum with Endure, she rolled high enough to get a successful hit. Reversal deals 200 damage in the games when the Pokemon has 1% health remaining. That converted to 36% damage, with Odin's Solid Rock it was 1.5* that so that equals 54% damage with a 2% increase for boosted Atk strength.

Hope that clears things up a little =/

Sorry it's late :x

Matthew's heart sank as he saw the round unfold, his own rotten luck once again becoming his downfall as all of the subsequent rolls of the metaphoric dice went the other way, teasing him with double sixes before landing on the ever-treacherous snake eyes; the single pip of luck tiding and turning in battle, but this was a time of great sorrow for the young trainer.

His opponent, however, was far more pleased, offering him solitary words of comfort and apologies as she sounded the final attack. Matthew nodded, knowing he too would have done the same, but this disastrous battle proved to him that he needed to train much more, to prevent this type of situation from arising once more. He clutched his hands into a ball, angry with himself for forgoing Rhyperior's ambition to become the alpha-male of the Rhy's, it was a goal he had since they first joined Fizzy Bubbles and now, thanks to his poor ordering, that goal was almost out of reach, the ever-lasting ideals of last minute miracles fading by the second as Odin had ended up in the side of the mountain.

“We turned to hope, but she had fled”.

The Rhyperior rose to his feet, his armour battered and bruised as it grunted, still fighting to its dying breath. Matthew stood and watched, breathless as it did so, every worrying for the comrade he had been proud to call his own since they ventured to the new region of Fizzy Bubbles, and while they had been through many highs and lows, this was certainly their lowest.

He looked back to the battle, realizing he had delayed for long enough. Though his mind thought of no master-plan, he had but one idea left. Their opponents did have all the cards while he held jokers, but there was the smallest of chances.

“Rhyperior. Protect against that Earthquake then use the distance between you and to launch a Bubblebeam at Rocky as it comes in to attack.

His heart was in his mouth, but Matthew could do nothing more.

Round 4

This would be the last round for both Pokemon no matter what happened. Both were wobbling on their feet looking ready to collapse any minute and both trainers looked concerned. They were thinking hard on how to get out of the sticky situation. They had proven how strong their Pokemon were that the battle will have ended quickly, now it was time to prove who could think on their feet.

Rocky looks beyond battered but he's still got energy in the tank so he moves to finish off his opponent quickly. He slams his foot on the ground making a small Earthquake that shakes the arena knocking over machinery and sending rocks tumbling down the steeps sides. Odin, despite his slow speed, manages to just get up his Protect the green shield preventing the earth shaking beneath his feet. Fortunately for Rocky none of the falling rocks land near him otherwise that would have ended his battle there and then. He takes a few deep breaths has his energy dips too, now onto Plan B, pity he was at least 25 metres away from his target.

He starts towards Odin who was fighting against his sluggish body to attack. If he could just get out the Bubblebeam, he would have this attack won. Rocky is right there before him and wraps his arms around Odin preparing his Submission when two solitary bubbles come from Odin's mouth popping against Rocky's skin. He winces and drops his arms from Odin before sliding down against him to fall to the ground unconscious.

"Rocky is unable to battle, Odin is the winner!"

Congratulations to Treepandaone and Odin, you were all over Rocky right at the start of the battle and you were really lucky with the RNG at the end to come out on top. You've shown that Rhyperior is the superior form well done. Fir his victory Odin receives this Expert Trainer Trophy. . You may also choose two TM's from the Coins for Prizes thread for Odin.

Commiserations to Yuki.N and Rcoky, he';s had such bad luck once again. I thought they had you so early on and your Endure/Reversal combo was inspired and worked tremendously well. You should of had it in the bag but the RNG was not your friend I'm afraid and Odin got his attacks in before Rocky could finish him off (the distance between them clinched it, if only Rocky had been closer but he threw the beast a long way with the Reversal!)
Rocky receives 1 XP for participating.

I hope to see you both back here soon ^-^
Keep trying Rocky!

The battle swayed with ebb and flow, the two rock-types clashing with extreme power, and much like some of the best battles Matthew had seen on TV, the battle was came down to the last moment of the last round. Though he had been cursing his luck of the last round, this time he was depending on it and though it was never really his strong point he had nothing else left in the tank; he had run through so many scenarios in his head to think of a way to counter the Rhydon's impressive predicament, refuting many because of Odin's slow speed; a situation he had brought on himself.

“Why did I use Hammer Arm? Why did I not use Rock Polish when I had the chance” he thought, critically analysing the battle thus far, unhappy with the choices he had made his opponent expertly finding holes in his orders.

The arena shook as it snapped Matthew out of his daydream; deadly rocks falling down from the sides of the quarry causing him to grab onto his hard-hat and tighten it to his chin, several machines tipping over at the Rhydon's attack. He crossed his fingers, knowing that the priority of the protect was in fact a gamble within itself, not only the move's unpredictability but knowing that Odin might have put the protective barrier up too late.

Matthew was in luck, however, and his Pokémon managed to avoid the attacks. He wiped a beat of sweat from his forehead and waiting for the second part of the plan. He saw the visible difference in distance but also the difference in speed. As Rhydon began his charge, Matthew could do nothing but pray, his stomach curling with butterflies, adrenaline pumping through his veins, his heart in his mouth and his brain pounding with anxiety.

Rocky got closer and closer, Rhyperior struggling to move as it fought the speed deficit desperately, as Matthew waited and hoped. As Rocky managed to grab Odin he thought it all over, unable to turn away like he was watching a car crash, the slow motion of Rocky's hand wrapping around Odin, when two bubbles popped out from Odin's mouth, the watery savior just about clipping his opponent as Rocky slumped to the floor.

Matthew stopped, time seemed to stand still and it took a while to sink in. Odin too looked like he was confused, taking a while to realise he was not knocked out, thrown half-way across the battlefield or submitted.

Odin wobbled as Matthew approached the middle of the battlefield, a walk turning into a run as his captain sat down with exhaustion, a large thump accompanying the rock-type's bottom hitting the ground. His most trusted companion sat on the floor; tired, battered and bruised. Matthew placed a hand on its plates, acknowledging a battle-well done, but deep down they both knew how lucky they were to win. They would certainly need to battle better and continue to train for the next time Rocky challenged for the role of alpha-male.

Withdrawing his Pokémon back to its familiar Rocket Ball, Matthew walked to the centre of the torn up battlefield, dodging pieces of debris, bowing respectfully to the referee before taking his trophies, extending a hand to his opponent. He knew he was lucky to win and was accepting that next time, the circumstance might be different and the rivalry between Matthew and Jessica was sure to burn brightly with the fires of friendship.

“Thank you for such an excellent battle Jessica. That was one of the best battles I ever had the pleasure of participating in. We'll have to do this again sometime” he said.

Lil' Bluey

Two bubbles. That was all it took to topple the stone tower. The blocks they had so carefully built from the bottom up came tumbling down before her eyes. She could hardly believe it.

The first failure was astounding enough. Despite everything, Odin had barely managed to escape the EARTHQUAKE – and then it was Rocky whom she realized was in danger of falling debris. Even a pebble could probably knock him out at this point. Luckily, none of them hit, and she could only pray that small fortune would continue. She honestly didn’t expect to have to close the distance. Now it was a race against time for both. The stretch across sand seemed to last forever. 25 meters, she guessed. Rocky was already sprinting to a start, even his usual slowness a stark contrast to his rival's at this point. Fingers still crossed, the final countdown commenced.

20. The green shield faded. Odin struggled to stand.

15. He got up. Rocky was closing the gap.

10. Odin turned to face the oncoming charge. Rocky was almost there. Come on...

5. Odin sucked in his breath. So did she. Just a littler farther...

0. Rocky was before the victim. He grabbed ahold of Odin, and…

Two bubbles. That was all it took. The tiny travelers’ journey from mouth to skin felt like an eternity. But when they burst, so did her accumulation of stress. She sighed, shook her head, and smiled sardonically. Not at the other side, but herself. She had been so sure, so starved for a win that cockiness carried her away. Now here was the price of pride staring her in the face. She had wanted a flashy finish, a move with meaning… In more ways than one. To show even though their Levels were now matched, Rocky could still best the boy beast who had begun a brawl with him that day. Instead, the whole affair had ended in a flash, rather than with it. No honor or flair, only despair. Disappointment.

But still, she was more than impressed by their opponents – not just to have defied defeat at the last moment, but their overall power and prowess during the match were tremendous. They had truly proven their worth of the title for top titan. Her smile quickly switched from sarcastic to sincere.

And so, it was without regret that she quietly clapped her hands, and walked towards Matthew to shake them, congratulating him on his victory. Turning to a tired Odin, she bowed to the new King of Quarry, promising they’d be back to reclaim their right. But for now, she patted her precious Rhydon on the back, whispering he did well before restoring him to his chamber for a hard-earned rest. No matter what, he was always number one in her heart. Saluting the ref, she quickly absconded with her Corsola hard hat, hugging it tight to her head before the judge could ask to have it back.
