The time had arrived for their first tussle co-ordinated by the leader of the NeoKnight Gym and Zak had decided to continue the season's raiding with his Blaziken, Guillermo, hoping to make use of his new-found experience and bulked-out
Nearing the site of the battle the two had signed up for, the man decided that he wanted to give another one of his Pokémon the chance to observe and get a feel for the atmosphere of a raid. Selecting a Pokémon of the same type as their foe, a Klink materialised before Zak and Guillermo in a flash. Unsure of where they were but happy to see their friends, Left and Right spun excitedly. "C'mon guys, you're going to join me for Guillermo's battle, see if you can pick up a few pointers from the Cufant." An even quicker spin from the pair of gears served to show the Klink's excitement at the idea of getting to be the first Pokémon to join the man in observing and coaching during the raid. With the elation clear, the three of them pressed onwards. The Blaziken entering the upcoming raid seemed to have been given a boost of confidence at the prospect of one of his Pokémon friends joining Zak this time and he was strutting into things with his head held high. "Okay, Guillermo, we're about to arrive at the den where this colossal Cufant has mysteriously shown up - as soon as you lay eyes on it, I want you to High Jump Kick (130 BP) things off strong!"

Slowly the Trainer and Pokémon arrived on the scene, joining their fellow raiders who were all set for action. Maribel didn't look too concerned- after facing off against the Eldritch Champion last month, what was a Cufant to her, Dynamaxed or otherwise? Hippopotas was looking slightly nervous, but was not to be deterred, even as he realized that the Cufant looked even more massive up close like this. Indeed, as Maribel looked at him, Hippopotas looked back with a determined look. "Hippo," he stated firmly.
Maribel smiled and nodded. "You'll be great, I know it," she said. "Hippopotas, are you ready?" "Hippoooopotas!" Hippopotas exclaimed in response, now a defiant battle cry directed at the enormous elephant before them, a battle cry that left Maribel in no doubt about the answer to her question. Maribel grinned at this. Hippopotas might not have a lot of moves to work with at the moment, but she knew he only needed the one good one. It was one that a Sizzlipede already seemed to be using, at that, which further cemented her belief that this would work out fine. And what was more, Hippopotas seemed to share her belief that what they had would suffice. That sort of confidence, that was half the battle right there. "Then use Scorching Sands!" she commanded, gesturing to the Copperderm Pokémon. "Hippooooo... POTAS!" sneezed Hippopotas, forcefully ejecting jets of steaming hot sand from both nostrils. Nice super effective damage, with the possibility of a burn to top it all off- what was not to like about this? OOC: Hippopotas used Scorching Sands (70 BP). Last edited by Missingno. Max Raid Boss Cufant ★★★ Health Gauge: 81% Shields Up: 0 Status: Sand Tomb (1), +1 Def Raid Boss Attack Summary: Attack 1: Play Rough (90 BP) Attack 2: Bulldoze (60 BP) Attack 3: Max Steelspike (140 BP) Raid Challengers:
A mixed bag of raiders but a confident start as they all lay some hurt on the poor, not so little Cufant. The hits fail to push the Raid Boss to shield up, but they get close! Cufant wastes no time dealing out some hurt, showing some Sheer Force as it bashes Pidove with a Play Rough. A Bulldoze then shakes the field before a Max Steelspike overwhelms Houndour, granting the little teapot-like elephant a defence boost. Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia (Palossand)

Watching on as the first round of attacks were exchanged between the raiding party and the Cufant they had chosen to face off against, he was glad that he had not underestimated the pachyderm: it might have looked cute but it was anything but in reality, managing to lay waste to one of Zak's fellow raiders' Pokémon with relative ease. The Houndour had managed to hold on through the elephant's bulldozing but could not weather a Max Steelspike attack, falling into a heap amongst the other raiding monsters.
The sight of this swift defeat sent the Klink that man had brought along to witness the raid into a frenzy, the two gears spinning this way and then the other, changing directions independently every now and again. Though the man had added the strange Pokémon to his team quite some time ago, he wasn't sure exactly what the pair were conveying in their strange motions but they certainly seemed riled up. Luckily, despite having taken a hit from the Cufant's assault on the raiders, the Blaziken appeared to be enjoying the gusto of his strange supporter, screeching at the pair of cogs before turning to squawk loudly at the monstrous mammal before him. Though the two Pokémon had spent little time together, Zak could only assume the pair had taken to joining up in smack talking the Cufant and found himself smirking despite the risk of such an act. "Good work, Guillermo - let's carry on hitting that thing where it hurts with a Focus Blast!" (120 BP)

The attacks blasted Cufant for lots of super effective damage, though unfortunately, no burns manifested themselves on its steel skin, which meant its retaliatory barrage of attacks were not hindered. Well, most of them, at least- Maribel figured that the Max Steelspike was physical as well, but wasn't completely sure. She didn't know off the top of her head every move Cufant was capable of learning, but she was pretty certain very few of them were special attacks.
As for the moves themselves, they weren't to be taken lightly. A Pidove took considerable damage from Cufant's Play Rough, a Bulldoze shook things up for several of the present Pokémon, Hippopotas included, and the aforementioned Max Steelspike was, to Maribel's surprise, sufficient to finish off the Houndour. "Wha...?" she murmured, taking out her Rotom Phone. "Wait- that color, it's gotta be a Shadow Pokémon," she murmured. "OK, Rotom," she added, addressing her Rotom Phone. "Do Shadow Pokémon take greater damage from moves than normal?" "Shadow Pokémon take more damage from moves than if they were non-Shadow," confirmed the Rotom Phone. "Proving objectively that karma is indeed a bitch." Maribel chuckled, stowing away her Rotom Phone. "Rotom's spending too much time talking to Uncle Gavin," she remarked, before looking over at Hippopotas. "You OK, Hippopotas?" she called. "Hippo!" nodded Hippopotas. Maribel nodded back, smiling. That Bulldoze, she knew Cufant had to have been powering it up with Sheer Force, so she was happy to see her Pokémon still raring to go. "Then use Scorching Sands once more!" she ordered. "HIPPO!" bellowed Hippopotas, spraying burning hot sand from his nostrils once more. More solid super effective damage, and maybe this time it would even cause a burn, Maribel hoped. OOC: Hippopotas used Scorching Sands (70 BP). |

Hmm, if Shields aren't up yet, then I'm exceptionally poor at estimation. Anyway, it's Dynamax Time-! How'd you like a hearty helping of Max Quake (based off of Scorching Sands; 120 BP), eh?

Max Raid Boss Cufant ★★★ Health Gauge: 72% Shields Up: 2 Status: Sand Tomb (2), +1 Def, Burn, Psychic Terrain (1) Raid Boss Attack Summary: Attack 1: Max Mindstorm (130 BP) Attack 2: Zen Headbutt (60 BP) Attack 3: Power Whip (120 BP) Raid Challengers:
One raider down, the party quickly launch their attacks, managing to push Cufant onto the defensive. Shields go up and Palossand grows into a literal palace, Dynamaxing to massive proportions. Only a couple of shields remain after the barrage and a cheer helps Pidove to recover. Cufant makes things weird, bringing down a Max Mindstorm to set Psychic Terrain. A powered up Zen Headbutt makes good use of the terrain, before Cufant whacks Hippopotas with a powerful whip of its trunk. Dynamax Initiative: Median Dia (Palossand)

With one of the raiding party down, the remaining Pokémon unleashed their next round of attacks against the colossal Cufant and his freshly formed defences. One of the party, a trainer and their Palossand, took advantage of the Dynamax Initiative when their turns came around and the already large sandcastle grew to palatial proportions to deftly batter its way through the pachyderm’s protections.
The Cufant they were facing off against didn’t seem all too bothered by his fellow monster gone massive, though, choosing to continue on with his own assault instead. All around them, the atmosphere started to feel tense and it soon became evident that the elephant was preparing a Max Mindstorm to unleash upon the party of Pokémon before him. Zak knew what this meant, having made use of the same Max Attack himself in recent times and his suspicions were confirmed when the terrain around them began to fade into a bizarre pink haze. Given the typing of his Blaziken companion, the man would need to be cautious of this change in the battlefield going forwards. “Careful Guillermo, that thing could deal you some serious damage with this strange new terrain in place - that being said, I want you to continue your all-out assault with another Focus Blast (120 BP)!” With their trainers words, the Klink he was accompanied by whirred as loud as they could to encourage the Blaziken and his fellow raiders once again. Though they were a strange pair, the man was glad that he had selected them to join him as they really seemed to be getting in the spirit of things.

Cufant wasn't holding anything back, so it was extraordinarily fortunate that one of the attacks it had just taken had managed to inflict a burn at long last; one of the moves was a forceful and super effective Power Whip directed at Hippopotas, and Maribel was certain that were it not for the burn cutting Cufant's Attack power, Hippopotas would have been knocked out on the spot. "Hippopotas! Are you OK?" Maribel called.
"Hiiiippoooo... Hippo!" declared Hippopotas, managing to climb back to his feet. Maribel exhaled in relief- Hippopotas was looking a little shaky on his feet at the moment, but was far from down or out just yet. "Good. Now just wait," Maribel added, noting the shield Cufant was hiding behind. "Don't attack yet..." As they waited, Maribel noticed the Riolu not doing anything, but rather looking as though it was waiting for Cufant to make a move. Initially, Maribel was surprised by this, but as she'd remembered it making use of Vacuum Wave earlier, it occurred to her why this change in tactics was happening; the Psychic Terrain. Cufant had previously used Max Mindstorm, setting a Psychic Terrain, which Maribel knew good and well prevented the use of first-strike moves such as Vacuum Wave. Perhaps, she realized, such moves were almost all that that Riolu had to work with. And it dawned on her just how similar she and Hippopotas were, in a sense- Scorching Sands was Hippopotas's only Ground-type attacking move at the moment. Should something happen to stop Hippopotas from using that, there went any way for the Hippo Pokémon to hit for super effective damage. That said, as it stood right now, they were more than fine to keep using that move, and so once the sad remnants of the barrier fell away, Maribel seized the opening at once. "Now! Use Scorching Sands!" she commanded Hippopotas. OOC: Hippopotas used Scorching Sands (70 BP). |
