Omanyte Haiyore! Nyaruko-san

So with community interest in this having risen with both my shameless advertising of it in the Skype chat and with a few members having already watched it I think we can have a thread on it (or I want to start one anyways). Apologies if there was already one (although I don't think there is), you'll have to blame it on UPN's search feature!

Since the Wiki is far better with words than I will ever be:

Quote:
The story of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san centers around Nyaruko, a formless Cthulhu-deity of chaos (Nyarlathotep) who can take on the shape of a seemingly ordinary silver-haired girl. Mahiro Yasaka is a normal high school boy who is being chased by a fearsome black alien one night, until Nyaruko saves him. She explains that the creatures from H. P. Lovecraft's works are actually races of aliens, and that she has been sent to Earth to protect him from being kidnapped by an alien trafficker. Eventually, Nyaruko and two other Lovecraft-creatures, Cthugha and Hastur, end up being freeloaders at Mahiro's place.[3]
The main inspiration for the characters in this anime are H.P. Lovecraft's work, which is referenced repeatedly throughout the show. It's a nice comedy/satire show that doesn't like to take itself seriously, which makes it enjoyable for me to watch. There is also the sequel Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W which I've only just begun to watch. Each series is 12 episodes long and each are about 25 minutes which means its a pretty short watch. Again, I'm really not good with words so I encourage people to watch it and make their own opinions! I'll likely be rewatching it to give my opinions on each episode for people to read.

As a note, all opinions are welcome here, even if you've never posted in the Anime forum before. While more negative opinions will not be frowned upon (as everyone has different tastes), being rude or condescending to others will be and might see a swift kick in the rear.

I'm still only on Episode 6 (Though that'll change today because yay sick day) because ahahaha what is free time, but I'm definitely planning to watch the rest of it as soon as possible. There really isn't much to say other than it's crazy chaotic comedy, and it's a kind of comedy I really enjoy. Nyaruko brings energy to every bit of the show, and I think it's that kind of energy that just draws me in to keep me entertained. The references are on point just like the comedy, so that's another plus. I guess the only bad thing I can say at this point is that this show is one that you can tell from the first 10 minutes or so whether you'll love it or hate it, and there's probably very little in between.

Linking my posts here for posterity's sake: Episode 01, Episode 02 (series dropped here).

I'd discourage anyone from reading these posts until they've seen the first episode for themselves. If you dislike the series, you can click my posts once you've seen the corresponding episodes or you've dropped the series altogether. If you like the series, I'd discourage you from clicking on them until you've finished the first season. You can then at that time go back if you like and address various of the points I've raised. The reasoning is pretty simple: I don't want to rain on anyone's parade and if you're having fun then I'd rather not pop your balloon until after you've gotten to see the entire thing.

I'll let him speak for himself, but bbb will probably be of great support to you guys if you want to find other shows that are like Nyarlko in any of various ways. He's seen a lot of anime and he enjoyed the Nyarlko series. He even championed a few of characters for SaiWaifu 2012.

Based on personal experience, I think this is very true. Everyone I know either hard dropped the series early, refused to even pick it up, or picked it up and licked their fingers clean afterwards it was so scrumdiddlyumptious.
