Not at all. None of the shops require you to have an adventure going on to use them. Closest there is to such a thing is the PokéBank (you can claim 250 Pokédollars for each zone reply you make that's over 300 words) and the Egg House (need to have caught something in a zone in order to be able to pick up Eggs).

Tyoyo hasn't gotten back to me about Mantyke, though, and I feel like whatever time table we set up for the trade (3 months?) has long since passed. So there's that. (Tyoyo! If you're reading this and planning to become active again, let me know before it's too late!)

I need to update my profile post. Haven't updated it since before Christmas. So I have Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's, and Pokémon's 20th to all update in there plus at least two new hatches (Bergmite and Lunatone) and a number of other shop-related things. Yeesh.

That's okay. Fire was once a popular hatching type, and if we have a large enough influx of newbies it's sure to be a popular hatching type once again. My biggest criterion with any trade these days is, "Do I think the creature will actually see use?" You're a proven FB success story and so I won't lose a wink of sleep trading you the Houndour.

For FB's second trick, registration opens and in less than 24 hours there are already six submissions on UPN alone.

One wonders what FB's third trick will be. Which makes me want to ask. How many of the current people here are planning to become updaters? Why or why not?

Also; Is it Updater or Updator? I use them both but there must be one that's correct.

Probably not me. Outside of occasionally updating someone in the FFA Zone, the idea's never really appealed to me for some reason.

I did indeed plan to do it there. I had decided it before EBE had evolved his Chimchar in there, which is why Bart seemed mildly annoyed at Aiden's evolution.

I'm not at all mad that I didn't get any of those to be honest. I woulda had my Pika run a multiple personality thing depending on current costume, and I'd probably have popped the shadow swine for trade given I already have a fire/fighting type.

I’ll answer this in retrospect. Updating for me is by far the most fun part of FB. When you’re updating you’re the storyteller. You’re the game master. You can do whatever you want to the unfortunate soul who rocks up in your zone (which becomes like a home to you) and watch as they squirm or delight in the twists and turns you inflict upon them. It’s also incredibly rewarding. For example, seeing GS roleplay with his Lanturn which is one of his strongest and most developed team members and knowing you were the one who introduced that Chinchou into the storyline, giving him his first capture and completed adventure, it’s just really cool.

It’s also great writing practice. I was originally terrible at writing, but saw a marked improvement in the quality and length of my essays and coursework at college when I first started updated. I’ve since finished college and university and I’m 3 years into a career where copy writing is a large element.

I really do think anyone who’s been here since before registration is more than qualified to give updating a shot.

10 years ago, I took the updator test and failed it. I couldn't be bothered to re-take that test, so no, I don't plan on becoming an updator in FB.

Having new members gives me more of a reason to take the test again (Which I passed, but none of the zones I was interested in updating needed updaters at the time).

I have more then enough free time for updating, but getting started with writing has always been my biggest problem.

As for why I want I'd want to do it, it's mostly for the sake of getting points so I can get my hands on the numerous super rare Pokemon I need to round out my dream team, though I'd also like to get some writing practice before diving into a fanfic concept I've had on the back of my mind for numerous years.

I used to be an updater way back in the day, but college got in the way of that...as did work. But now I'm a lot more free and I really should become an updater. I forgotten how much I enjoyed pbp style of RPing till I wrote up just recently. And despite my personal arguments of how things could be more effective I really don't want to see FB die, it was the first big RP I was a part of. And I'm here till its death, even if it is in the background. Though I'm not gonna use the shops very often. :P Even if it is free stuff...

..except for the Bank, since it actually does reward RPing :P

I sort of know what you mean. The potential influx of new members is getting me interested in RP'ing more as well.
