Well yeah, that's pretty stupid of them Fake Out is generally a good move to use since it cancels out the speed loss on the mega evolution. I personally wouldn't run it and would rather run Return / PuP / Sucker Punch / [filler]. Can't have Thunder Punch thankfully.

Skarm does ok, heal off damages and whirlwind away. But I think most defensive ghosts work well against Kanga. From what I've seen, the only thing it has to handle ghosts is Sucker Punch and sometime the elemental punches and/or EQ. Ghost would prevent it from setting up power-up punches and any decent defensive ghost carries WoW. Acting defensively mean it can't hit you with sucker punch and you are either immune or can heal off the other moves. At least, I think.
I've had some success with a ScarfTran revenge killing it/burning it, but even that iffy after a few round of power-up punches. She's still a bitch to handle though.

The only defensive Ghosts that are even worth it in OU ARE Cofagrigus and sometimes Golurk. Cofagrigus gets special mention for Mummy.
Skarm does good because you can't get the E-Punches outside of Pokebank.

I was sort of thinking of Jellicent and Dusclops as well. I've seen the two new ghost/grass around and they have been mainly defensive. But hey what do I know, I've been doing steel mono.

>paralyzes Chansey
>Parasect Yep all I needed to see right there. I could tell something was off with the other player when he didn't try to paralyze Alakazam, and was using Thunder on Starmie(oh god why), but he seems to be a novice. Unless I'm completely wrong. + points to use of Zapdos though. Gen I = Crit metagame. |

Yeah I saw a faint glimmer of hope when his last 'Mon was Parasect. I definitely got lucky with sleep mechanics but hey I think it made up for some of the stuff earlier on. Losing the speed tie and Thunder critting Starmie for one.

I would say you played pretty well, if only because of luck on your opponent's side that ended up endangering your chances of victory. A critical hit Drill Peck, and then you can't get a critical Blizzard? HAX.
I used to have a Gen I team, have they fixed the EV thing or do we still not invest at all? |

Gen 1's been fixed for months. Just enter in the moves and it auto-maxes your DV's.

Don't you mean EVs? Cause I remember that being the problem, not that the IVs were screwed up.

Typos happen to the best of us. :P
And by "I played horribly" I really played poor with Alakazam. Should have remembered that Earthquake isn't a contact move against Rhydon. Gave him a free turn. Should have switched out Alakazam before he was KO'd. That way Tauros would've never been able to fall asleep in the first place. Once I realized that AND Chansey went down to crit + paralysis I thought I was screwed.

Nah, it was far to broken IMO. Any skilled player could easily get 2 KO's a game with it at least, and you were kind of forced to have a counter for it. And even then, your counter could get KO'd via Destiny Bond, leaving you down another team member.

Ow, I understand the ban, don't get me wrong it's powerful as hell, either as revenge killer how I used him or with a Destiny Bond / Perish Song set.
I just hoped they wouldn't ban him so I wouldn't have to change my main team (the vote was a close one in favor of keeping it OU, with less than 1% but okay :P) That said, I never had any problem with any Mega-Gengar myself. But that's probably because the way I build my teams, if I don't have Mega-Gengar I have a scarfed one XD

So wait, is Mega Gengar only banned or is it both Mega Gengar and normal Gengar?

Gengarite is banned. You can still use normal Gengar.

So if you can ban items and ban Abilities, why can't you ban specific combinations?
Read as: Why is Blaziken banned when you could just ban Speed Boost Blaziken, but it's fine to just ban Sand Veil to allow everyone to resume wanking over Garchomp in OU? |

Because Dave that leads to a whole 'nother hell of "well why can't we use Water Absorb Politoed in NU" and all that jazz. It completely fucks up everything.
Tiering megas separately from their normal forms is what I want to happen. But while this is a step in the right direction, I don't believe they are going to do that. Which is retarded.

It doesn't exactly make sense to me, either. If I could tell you, I would, but that's not my department. I'm sure there's explanation somewhere on the Smogon forums... actually let me look for that.
EDIT: Yeah what blaze said probably works, but I'll look anyway.

I believe that was the explanation phoopes. It brings another variable into question that makes it that much harder to actually tier, plus it makes things about 1000x more complicated and confusing for new people who are trying to get into competitive battling. Should it be like Dave said? Yes, it should for a true Pokemon experience, it just isn't practical.

I hope at least, cause there are quite some Mega's who can be in a higher tier while their regular counterpart has no reason to be in said tier. And it would probably limit the options in the lower tiers a lot too if regular and Mega forms are judged as one.

I remember a long time ago (quit competitive battling about a year ago) when smogon was having some trouble deciding if some Pokemon should be judged separately depending on their hidden abilities. The end result was they just judged it as a whole to make it simpler on themselves. They could very well do that with Megas
