Apples or Oranges?

Because you just can't compare the two.

If it was apples vs. citrus, citrus would kick apple's sorry ass, no contest. I love grapefruits, I eat raw lemons on a semi-regular basis, and I cook many meals with lemon and lime (the fruit or the juice). But orange is probably my least favorite of the citrus fruits and it just doesn't hold up to a good Fuji apple.

I should note that one of my favorite flavor combinations on the entire planet, however, is orange + chocolate.

Okay, what the fuck.

Apples are better than oranges (especially the Red Delicious kind), but tangerines are better than them both.

It's a cultural thing. Believe it or not, people the world over used to eat lemons. Crazy, I know.

My only beef with oranges is the skin isn't particularly palatable. Apples, if you're starved you can even down the core, but oranges have too much cellulose (I presume?) to be an all-in-one meal.

I like apples a lot more than oranges, because they're more versatile. When's the last time you had orange pie, or orange cider, or orange butter? I'm sure these exist, but they're nowhere near the quality as their apple counterparts.

(Also, I'm with Talon in that I eat raw lemons occasionally.)

Tangarines/Mandarin Oranges win out hands down. Mango and papaya are second, with pineapple and Pomegranate very close behind.

But generally apples are better than general oranges, not as much work required to eat them. >.< And no yucky pulp in apples either.

Oranges are good though, and I love orange juice (with pulp! strangely enough) better then apple juice.

Orange Chocolate is also very good.

This is tough. Oranges taste way better than apples, but they're cursed with a skin that is ridiculously tedius to peel and enjoy. Orange Juice is the drink of the gods, but applesauce and caramel apples and apples with peanut butter all exist...

This is a matter of quality vs. convinience. Oranges taste 50x better in every way, but apples are 50x more convenient and versatile... It's a tough one. I think I'll go with Oranges, simply because the juice is so magical.

lol, eating raw lemons is awesome, you just have to eat them slowly.

also, Oranges simply taste better- I mean, the funny thing is that you see red apples all of the time, but they are quite possibly the shittiest fruit on earth, meanwhile, Oranges that are advertised usually taste excellently. Not to mention that Oranges are more convenient to move around and such. When it comes to cooking however (not soda, juice, ect.) Apples are the superior actual dining dish, but otherwise, Oranges are far better.

Citrus fruits > Apples

Why is this even a question?

Culturally, oranges represent prosperity while apples can be grim (because apparently apple trees are oddly common at cemeteries), but as something I eat, I'd take apples.

Can't ever resist squeezing those pieces right into my mouth. Damn, that feels good.

Also: Apples. More specifically, green apples. Even more specifically, green apple pie. Can't do that with oranges :p

Hm. It went from Talon being a weirdo to me being the odd one out for NOT eating lemons.

Just putting it out there, I really do not like apples. Only apple pie.

And Applejack.

Don't worry, FW's wrong as usual. Why you would eat a lemon slowly is beyond me.

Oranges are great when they're really tart (tangerines basically), but apples are also great when they're a nice balance of tart and sweet.

I mostly prefer apples, since they're more filling, and the fact that the apple pie I make is delicious.

Pomegranates are the fruit I've heard that grow best in cemetaries, because the supposed saturation of nitrogen in the ground is allegedly healthy for the fruit. Given how modern cemeteries work, though, I'd think we'd have to see natural burials or shallow graves for such to be effective.

She doesn't taste like apples either.

Unless... *thinks*

Anyway, apples are better. oranges have a tendency to raise sores on my tongue. Allergic reaction maybe?

I'm on the same boat as Talon, I love eating lemons (the peel is my favorite part), but oranges aren't as good as apples.

The only time I've ever eaten lemon peel is:
  • in lemon jams analogous to marmalade (which uses orange peel)
  • when eating stewed dried lemons
But you can't/shouldn't stew a non-dried lemon and I can't imagine eating a lemon peel without cooking it first. Very thick, very bitter. Drying it thins it out considerably and stewing it sours it with some of the citric acid from the inside. But hey: to each his own. If people are going to give me hassle for eating raw lemons, I sure as hell am not about to give you hassle for eating lemon peels. I just ... don't think I would enjoy eating raw lemon peels. Not a fan of bitter tastes, personally. Least favorite taste of the taste groups. (Sweet > Sour > Salty > Bitter, forget you and your umami. )

Just tried one, surprisingly tasty but yeah that's bitter. Might cook it a little and see.
