Bioware Founders Retire

http://www.gamespot.com/news/bioware...retire-6396699

Apparently 6 months ago, the pair announced their retirements from the gaming industry. Originally doctors, the two started Bioware in 1995 as their "side thing," believing they would still be doctors and not giant game developers.

Zeschuk was quote to saying this,

Quote:
"I’ve reached an unexpected point in my life where I no longer have the passion that I once did for the company, for the games, and for the challenge of creation," he said. "For the people I have had the privilege of working with, however, my passion burns as brightly as it did the day we started."
That's a bit sad.

6 months ago was also when Mass Effect 3 was released. It's also around the time people reported population drops in SWTOR. Did I also mention that recently SWTOR is closing their low population servers and forcing people to move?

I doubt all these things were related, but it is suspicious. The last few years haven't had the best titles and Bioware's next title I believe is Command & Conquer Generals 2 (which isn't even an RPG!). Do you think EA had anything to do with any misfortunes? How well do you guys thing Bioware will keep up?

Sounds like they're getting out while the getting's good.

Yeah, I'm cynical.

SWTOR is also going free to play. That's the fastest I've seen something go from pay to play to free.

I don't know if EA had anything to do with them moving away from games, but I get the feeling that these guys are the type to stop doing whatever it is they're doing once it stops being fun and with what I've heard about how EA is run in near perpetual crunch time and high pressure as well as refusal to help it's developers create new ips, it's not hard to draw parallels.

Well, I guess it's all down hill from here. SWTOR was just bad.
