When these chains are all gone I swear I'll bring the sun through this maze
Quote:
Whilst the girl herself had been somewhat reluctant to return to such a stressful realm given her harrowing history with the house, she hadn't been the only one to watch the late night talk show; curled up on the couch that evening with Kief and Kanna as they cuddled their essentially adopted "daughter" Yufi, and munching moon cakes baked by Blueberry for the holiday's occasion. Though the young Zigzagoon was clearly up past her bedtime, her eyes were glued wide to the screen as the slightly unkempt and frazzled-looking man frantically raved about his findings, seated before a backdrop of the building's eerie exterior in lieu of lacking pictorial evidence of the pumpkin Pokémon itself to display. Whilst the host seemed prepared to dismiss the case as hearsay without proof, Yufi was captivated by crazy-sounding speech as they cut to commercial break - not at all helped by the fact her father had convinced her of the existence of "The Great Pumpkasaur", who brought treats and toys to good little boys and girls every year. She bounced excitedly up and down on the cushions, begging her parents to go see the phenomenon. Kanna had been the most hesitant, having had but one brief terrifying experience with the location's environment, but eventually caved along with Jess under Kief's promise to look closely after the little one. ...So that's how the four ultimately found themselves hopelessly lost within the hedges, having been separated - if not spirited away - from their guide. Jess cursed herself for trusting the crackpot and not simply joining the brave few who foraged directly through the foliage, pushing eagerly past to wall of vines to witness the prized Pumpkasaur before anyone else. She had been scared to lose sight of her Pokémon in the process though, plus the professor's request to document the firsthand encounter by replicating the species' image on paper rather than film gave her pause. Whilst she had some confidence in her artistic abilities and generally enjoyed drawing as a personal private hobby, she was uneasy when it came to sharing her own works with others (especially given discouraging events not too long ago). Not to mention the sketchpad reminded her of Kristen's recent recognition of Lilith as her consort (or was it the other way around?), and she still wasn't sure how to feel about that development. At any rate, Yufi was still more than excited to explore, having never been to the area before (and thus unaware of the dangers). As per usual, she kept keenly bounding ahead despite Kanna's worried calls to stay close. Though the Furret was understandably frightened by the setting and circumstances, she was less skittish now than she used to be, calmed and comforted by being beside her partner's warm coat. He too had grown considerably compared to his first visit to the locale, in which he wound up within this very overgrown garden - and somehow nearly the belly of a Gulpin. Now much greater in size and skill, he was determined to defend himself and his charges against any threats should they appear. Watching her companion dash forward and Pickup the wandering Zigzagoon before she strayed too far filled Kanna with further faith, impressed by how responsible a "dad" he had become; striking a fine fatherly figure as he trotted proudly back with scruffy flailing bundle in tow, depositing safely at the Furret's feet with an admonishing smirk. Kanna beamed as she shyly licked the Linoone in thanks, unable to help herself falling for him all over again. Being surrounded on all sides by shrubbery like this, she reminisced to her first failed attempt at confessing to him in the Fizzytopian Park and Gardens. Whilst an embarrassing recollection for a number of reasons (not least of which was misunderstanding her best friend Minchi being in a secret relationship with Kief due to a Meowth casting confusion on her, for which she apologized profusely after), she still could hardly believe the seeds of romance sown that day had finally borne fruit for someone as timid and unassuming as her. Meanwhile, Jess was traveling down a different memory lane - one that was distinctly less pleasant than the lovey-dovey pair's. Indeed, the last time she had even gotten within close proximity to this wretched place, she had been infected by a deadly poisonous gas pervading the nearby town - losing hope almost to the point of taking her own life rather than suffer such a terrible grisly fate. Kief had been with her then too, and breathed in some of the mephitic mist as well. Though they were fully recovered now, the fact Jess could not recall how her health was so miraculously cured only made her more wary. Focusing through the hazy fog of her mind, static scenes flashed in sequence like an old projector: A Gengar's ghostly grin, followed by a candlelit meeting between a boy and a girl in the dead of darkness - dancing away at a masquerade ball as the clock struck midnight, and finally... "Eeny, meeny, miny moe. Bellsprout you're out!" Jess froze as she heard the voice of a young man up ahead, not entirely sure whether it was real or her imagination playing tricks. A Bellsprout - that was one of the missing children she had tried to save so long ago - and failed, wasn't it? She couldn't even remember clearly, but tears stung at her eyes as she clutched her heart, feeling the weight of unresolved regret pressing down on her. "Not because you're dirty, not because you're clean." Sensing their trainer's sorrow, the trio of creatures stopped to treat her with concern, anxiously wrapping around her legs in reassurance. Jess smiled awkwardly as she wiped waterdrops with her sleeve and bent down to embrace the fretting furballs, who still always accepted and loved her unconditionally despite her shortcomings. Perhaps this labyrinth wasn't merely meant to trap rats in a cage as punishment - but instead a second chance for her to fully face her fears, navigating her own soul's shackles to liberate and release, finally freeing from guilt. Too many times the magic carriage had turned into a yucky pumpkin before she could complete the ride to her destination, so she would see this challenge thoroughly through to the end - come hell or high water. With a goal settled within herself and renewed resolve, she and her three fellow teammates trekked forward - towards the sound of the nursery rhyme heard earlier, hoping it would lead to company (and not a creep lying in wait for an innocent unsuspecting prey to pass by)...

Dewpider blew itself a new bubble as they turned to head back the way they had came. That bloody Pumpkaboo had wasted their time, now they had to trudge back to that tree! Dracovish would likely be happy about that, but at least they knew they had to head west once they got there. Hopefully no one would make the same mistake that he did! "Come on you lot, back to the tree, lets pick up the pace!" Xander broke into a jog, with Dracovish and Pichu trailing behind him. |

"Eyes peeled, Zoroa - Ralts," Ray managed to correct on time. "Ideas?" The black fox in disguise shrugged. "I could bring out Bulbasaur to sniff out its freak cousins, but... well. Maybe it's too soon for that." Other than Zoroark, all of my Pokemon have been stolen from their original owners. As far as I can tell, the cops have no way to track them, but you can never be too safe. If I end up hopelessly lost in this stupid maze, I might have to risk blowing my cover, but until then... "North."

“I think we go west.” Emp suggested, pointing out three sets of prints wedged in the soil, varying degrees of size, “There’s fresh footsteps leading east, and I think I can hear someone coming back from that direction. I can only assume they went the wrong way and that they are turning back.” The maze runner was getting closer by the sound of it, a peculiar gargling piquing the Cradily's attention harking her back to life 350 million years ago. There was no time to wait for the stranger to arrive, but he felt grateful for their presence all the same – for their blunder had set the pair on the right track.

"I'll be honest with you, life got in the way of training and before I knew it I was stuck in the Raticate race. That was until I started to have strange dreams of Fizzytopia. One thing led to another and before I could change my mind Tim and I were flying a direct course to the Arboreal Cradle." As the man spoke, he noticed that they had arrived at a clearing: clearly they were heading in the right direction this time. In the centre of the clearing stood a most impressive if not incredibly spooky tree. If he wasn't more of a skeptical thinker, Zak could have sworn he felt like it was watching him with unseen eyes. Shaking himself free of such peculiar thoughts, he turned to his companion; "What about you? What's been happening in the world of Emp?" Spotting the tell-tale signs of footsteps in the dirt, Emp had quickly deduced that a trainer and a number of Pokémon had already travelled via the Eastern option and that West was the way to go. Whoever left the prints must have been past recently too as before the pair could deliberate over who or what they could belong to, they heard the crunching of leaves and a peculiar groaning which seemed familiar to the Cradily: the owners of the feet were fast returning in the direction in which they had previously found themselves in and the men would need to get moving if they wanted to take advantage of their new found knowledge.

Maskerade: You head north from the maze’s entrance as the path quickly turns east and then north again. After a short walk, you come up on another split in the path…
Emp, Pearl’s Perap: You head west from the spooky tree in what appears to be a very short walk before coming across another clearing… TheKnightsFury: Grumbling in frustration over the Pumpkaboo’s prank, you quickly make your way back toward the spooky tree without any other events. As you return to the clearing of the spooky tree, you can’t help but feel like the tree is smirking at you, if that were possible… Maze Entrance: (myahoo, ChrisClark13, King Ghidorah, sixdragons, Connor, Ironthunder, lilboocorsola) As you step foot into the Maze of Shrubbery, you experience a strange sensation that you can’t quite trust your sense of direction anymore. There are three paths to traverse; to the East, to the West, and to the North. Spooky Tree: (TheKnightsFury, Maskerade) As you enter the clearing, you are greeted by a rather sinister looking tree. Your options are East, West, or South back the way you came. It almost feels as if the tree is watching you, waiting to see your decision. Armored Statue: (Emp, Pearl’s Perap) You come across a rather large clearing that is highlighted by a prominent statue in the middle of a soldier with a shield in one hand and a sword in the other. Your options are South, West, North, North East, or East in the direction of the spooky tree. The sword seems to be pointing towards the west… |

Pumpkasaur, the Pumpkin Seed Pokémon We all know and love Pumpkasaur. The adorable Bulbasaur variant so perfectly and uniquely suited to Halloween, with the only real difference between it and Bulbasaur, other than appearance, being the signature move of Pumpkin Bomb, and the inability to evolve... or so we thought. Dex entry 1: Instead of a plant bulb, a small pumpkin grows on its back instead. Some Trainers claim to have seen the face change to reflect Pumpkasaur's mood. Dex entry 2: A rare sight in the wild, its preferred habitat remains shrouded in mystery. The few sightings of Pumpkasaur in the wild are invariably in the autumn. Dex entry 3: As it's not used to humans, it tends to be wary around them. Those whose trust have been earned often have a cheerful disposition. Dex entry 4: Sometimes, an eerie laugh will sound around these Pokémon with no discernible source. In all recorded instances, however, any nearby Pumpkasaur were invariably especially pleased about something. Hollowsaur, the Pumpkin Pokémon Presenting Hollowsaur, the Pumpkin Pokémon! A Grass and Poison-type, and the evolved form of Pumpkasaur! While Bulbasaur evolve into Ivysaur simply upon reaching level 16, Pumpkasaur will only evolve into Hollowsaur upon learning Poison Powder, and only at night. Dex entry 1: Now surrounded by leaves, the pumpkin on its back has grown large and healthy. Although it looks heavy, Hollowsaur doesn't seem to mind it. Dex entry 2: When the light illuminating the pumpkin's face glows a bright red, Hollowsaur's poison becomes more intense. Enemies entranced by the pumpkin's face are treated to a faceful of Poison Powder. Dex entry 3: Despite baring its sharp teeth to frighten opponents, it does not bite to attack. Instead, it lashes out with vines, or else fires various seeds and poisonous spores. Dex entry 4: It possesses a more aggressive battle style than Pumpkasaur, though turns even more aggressive if the pumpkin on its back is targeted. Patchasaur, the Pumpkin Patch Pokémon And finally, Patchasaur, the Pumpkin Patch Pokémon! A Grass and Poison-type, the evolved form of Hollowsaur, and the final evolved form of Pumpkasaur! While Ivysaur evolve into Venusaur simply upon reaching level 32, Hollowsaur evolves into Patchasaur with the use of a Leaf Stone. Dex entry 1: The pumpkin is past its prime, having burst open and started to rot. Beneath the remnants, however, an entire pumpkin patch grows on Patchasaur's back. Dex entry 2: The pumpkins that grow on its back are especially hardy. They can last months without rotting, even when carved into Jack-o-lanterns. Dex entry 3: It scatters toxic powder to protect the pumpkin patch on its back. Patchasaur's poison causes terrifying hallucinations that never fail to scare off potential pumpkin thieves. Dex entry 4: The poisonous spores it scatters not only deters thieves who are after its pumpkins, but also has highly beneficial effects on the pumpkins of young Pumpkasaur. Misc. details

Only a few moments later the Poochyena seems to pick up a scent and starts wandering off to the North, his tail only wagging even more furiously now than before. Alexander flips his trainer a thumbs up before following along as well! Helena is quick to chase after them and stop them from getting too far ahead, even barking at them to slow down. "Alright, I think we're on to something here...!" Curtis states, nervous and excited all at once. He glances at Jin and Sasha for a moment and gives them a thumbs up before following along himself. The Vulpix and Litten perched on his shouders share in his nervous optimism for now... Along the way, Benny (who was not actually asleep) notices that Curtis is moving and peeks his head up out of the hood under his Trainer's chin to see what's going on. Chuckling at the Buizel's antics, Curtis gives the guy a scratch under the chin. So far, nothing bad had happened yet. Though Curtis knew that things were only just getting started and kept a hand near his Pokeballs in case he needed to speedily recall any of the pack of little ones. After all, this place is certainly much, much more than your average crummy corn maze... OOC: Going North

Dracovish's attention snapped off the tree as his nostrils flared, picking up a scent. He couldn't quite put a fin on it, it smelled familiar to him, but why?! The scent was coming from the west, exactly where they were planning on going anyways. The monster stomped off down the West path, his trainer and allies trailing behind him. "Arceus, not again!" Xander shouted as Dewpider leapt back up onto his arm and Pichu took off after Dracovish. Why did he think it was a good idea to bring the crazy critter into this maze?! At this rate he'd probably die of cardiac arrest before they made it out, his heart was thumping in his chest while his legs cried out for relief. |

Accompanying her on this journey was Boreas, her Snom. She had already made plans for the other party members but she wanted to make sure that Boreas got some exercise. Of course however, he felt very content to stay nestled in his trainer's arms, and not bother to actually do much of anything in particular. He was munching on a snow cone that was dyed a deep red color, ostensibly cherry flavored, and looked rather calm and delighted. The idea that she could get lost in this maze didn't cross the woman's mind. She had a knack for creating mental maps, and if something was in doubt, she had intended to keep an actual physical map of the maze. She even had the graph paper ready, folded up neatly in her purse. If she applied the same ideas to this maze as she did when she first played Megami Tensei, there was no chance of her getting lost! "Let's go in, shall we?"

Instantly as she entered, the woman realized that her sense of direction felt funny. She could...roughly figure out the cardinal directions, but she tried to remember how to get back to her motorcycle parked outside the mansion, and realized she couldn't plot a route back. Even with her ability to make mental maps, the chances of getting lost were pretty high. There were three directions for her to go, and while she saw at least five other trainers with her, she didn't really have any plans to collaborate with any of them. Unless of course she desperately needed their help, which would never come to that.

Xander heard murmurs from the other trainers that the sword in the statues hand had previously pointed to the West, but it had just now switched to point to the South. What was going on here? Xander had a feeling the statue was meant to cause confusion, it could have nothing to do with the right direction to go, or more likely, it was showing them the wrong direction. A misdirect, like the one he'd given to that weird looking guy and his Ralts back at the Spooky Tree. In the blink of an eye the sword moved once more, Xander rubbed his eyes just to make sure he wasn't seeing things. He wasn't, the sword was now pointing to the North East! Xander watched as one trainer bolted off in that direction. He considered following, but he wanted to test his theory. "So its pointed West, South and North East. We came from the East, so the only path it hasn't pointed out is the North. I think its been trying to send us the wrong way, so let's head North!" There was no argument from his team. Dewpider and Pichu were eager to break away from the rest of the pack and Dracovish was already stampeding down the North track. |

"What do you think he's pointing at? It could be the correct way or..." Zak's words to his friend trailed off as he started to daydream. The statue could be stood in place to defend the maze from something, particularly given that it had its sword raised. Spotting his trainer beginning to daydream, the Murkrow leaves his perch upon Ventress' highest tentacle to land upon his trainer's head instead. As Zak snapped out of his daydreaming, his gaze trailed up to the statue once more. The Darkness Pokémon noticed the change first and let out a squawk - the statue had shifted without any of them noticing and was now pointing towards the South. If it was defending from something, that something was now moving around them. As the two men looked on in confusion at the silently shifting statue, another trainer arrived with his Pokémon and stood before the sentinel. Momentarily distracted by this new presence and his chosen partners, Zak had neglected to notice that the statue had moved of its own accord before their very eyes once again and was now pointing to the North East of the clearing. "I'm going to bite the bullet and follow the way of the sword North East - we can either split up here and cover more ground or carry on together." As Zak started off towards the North East, he turned back to grin at his old friend and give him a thumbs up. As he did so, the Murkrow copied his new trainer, throwing up a wing instead from his perch atop his trainer's head.

His old friend had made up his mind, taking its position as a hint rather than misdirect. Emp bit his lip in concentration; there would come a time when it made more sense for the pair to fan out, the reception was spotty around these parts but they could exchange numbers and keep in touch from afar. While they deliberated a few more lost trainers fell into the checkpoint, one bearing North West and the other directly North. The source of the gargling was revealed as an abnormal assortment of dragon and fish; Cradily hissed as it thrashed by, familiar with at least one end in her prehistoric past life. While not wanting to incite a scuffle between the two, the passerby had sound logic for choosing the northmost route. “I think we’re better splitting up for now. I’ll head North and text you if it leads to anywhere interesting, knowing this maze I doubt it’ll be long before we’re back at the same point!”
