Actually, aparently there's a good ending, a bad ending and a your worst than hitler ending. You have to harvest 100% of the Little Sisters to get the Your Worst than Hitler ending, but it's almost no different from the bad ending other than Tenanbaum gives you her speech with even more disgust layered on top. Really though, just save all of the little sisters. It's supposed to be about ethics but once you see the numbers, you actually get more from saving them than harvesting them in the long run.

Just... wow. What a game. Although my character building/fighting sucked so my characters were reduced to running away in terror at all times in the latter stages of the game. Good thing the combat focus is so minimal.

Get:

Baldurs Gate
Baldurs Gate II
Icewind Dale II
Neverwinter Nights II
Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone
Temple of Infinite Evil
Dragonshard

GOG.com was doing a deal so I got the lot for about twelve quid. How could I pass that up?

Whoa. Just...whoa. I was spoiled beforehand and that still did little to stop the whoas everywhere. First off, non-spoiler review.

The gameplay is...good. Quite good. The little da-dhik-da-dhik music in combat is really entertaining, perfect for getting your blood up. Really a strange place to begin with, but what the hell. You can play however the hell you want. Want to punch everyone to death? Sure! Pretty little headshots with a (literal) hand cannon? Yep. Moar Dakka with Machine Guns? Rat-a-tat, booker! It is NOT an escort mission, if anyone was still thinking that. Well, it IS, but not for you. More for Elizabeth, really.
"Dammit, he keeps dying, running out of ammo, salts, health..."
Anyway, the gameplay was good. The plot...well. You can't describe it without spoilers, you just can't, so spoilers it is. Be warned.

Spoiler: show
I knew all the time that Booker was Comstock, but I didn't quite know the details. I'm VERY used to multiple universes, so that was old hat, and I had no trouble with that, at least. Admittedly I haven't played Bioshock 1. The references from that I scraped off the net. But...damn. I loved how they handled it. I think that if you're reading this, you already read everywhere on the net all about it, so all I can say is my personal view about multiple universes, which might help with it: There is no cause. There is only effect. That's it in a nutshell.

Because it would've cost me literally ten times as much (BG was about Ł1.20, I can't find the enhanced edition for less than Ł13). I am a student, I'm cheap :p.

Ah. Well, consider getting BGTutu to get basically all the nice benefits of BG2 on BG1 like dual weapons and class kits.

Atelier Ayesha
So after going through the Arland Atelier series, I picked this up when I realized it was released in the US. What drew me to the Atelier series was the nice atmosphere and great characters. The alchemy was fun enough to keep me entertained as well. This one has weak characters. Most of them are so boring, and without dual audio, their personalities are killed even more. There are a couple of interesting characters, but two out of a big haul of other boring assholes isn't enough. The alchemy and battles had some nice changes, which is a plus. Also the story had the potential to be really good. It set itself up nicely, but they did nothing with it. The final boss battle theme was really pretty though. Sad that the actual scene didn't have anywhere near as much impact as the music.

If I put this on a rank, it'd be like this: Totori > Rorona > Ayesha > Meruru None of them except Totori are really that far above the others though.

Good game, especially considering it was pretty much made by 1 guy. Buck fuck this game because

Spoiler: show
It forced you to beat 4 bosses in a row without a chance to save. Fuck that.

Otherwise, I recommend it.

Actually really fun. I'm about 5 hours in, concerned that I'm getting near the end, but hey 6-7 hours of game for $.99 is not bad at all.

Out of curiosity, did you dive straight into Part 3? Or did you play Parts 1 and 2 first?

Diving straight into Part 3. The plot is utter bullshit so I don't feel like I've missed anything, and plus they have humorous references to the previous games so I don't feel too out of the loop. This game is really more for the combat system than anything else.

Borrowed/Playing: Far Cry 3

Pretty well pleased with the game. I didn't play 1 & 2, so I was sort of expecting a Rainbow Six style game rather than a Skyrim style game with guns and less magic. Very pleased with it overall, but it's kind of silly that a few bullets from a pistol will kill a person, but goats, cows, and pigs take way more bullets and don't even get me started on how much health Tigers, Leopards, and Bears have. Jesus! I can't even kill those with a Flamethrower because they'll maul me before they burn to death.

12 hours of fun if you do all the extras! Can't beat that for a dollar. Turnbased games should really start implementing some of the stuff they did with the combat.

Ys Origins
This was a nice, fun little game. I didn't realize that there were games before this, so I think I missed out on quite a bit of the story. I got enough into the story, and it was difficult enough to keep me entertained, without being too difficult. I don't play enough hack-n-slash RPGs to really compare this to anything, so I can't really tell you if this had anything to set itself apart from the others. I'll buy the other games if they are ever on special. As much as I enjoyed it, it's not worth the regular price of $15. It's too short and simple.

Essentially, they had a some of fantastic ideas and put them in an otherwise distinctly average game. Enemy AI is from the 1990's which they try to make up for by spamming them in large numbers. Most powers have a trap version which is pretty much useless except for the final fight. Combat in general is very hit and miss - there's enough good ideas that it occasionally shines, but the vast majority of areas aren't really designed very well for it and the enemies literally just run at you and fire - no working together, no attempt to flank or supply covering fire, no nothing. You can literally sit behind cover and if no-one can hit you straight away you'd be incredibly unlucky if any enemies have the presence of mind to try to move to where they can hit you. I played through on hard and only died three times, two of which were to Handymen (Big Daddy equivalents, only automatically aggressive). Whoever came up with skyrails should be fired. Some of the important dialogue is narmtastic, and the story had several stupid moments such as
Spoiler: show
when attempting to get the airship back from Daisy Fitzroy, part of your work for her is to take over an enemy airship - which you then proceed to destroy for her rather than just, y'know, using in place of the one you're trying to get back from the woman who stole it from you.

Right, onto things I liked. Undertow is a really fun and useful power (Shock Jockey is more useful but dull). The other stuff I like is almost exclusively thematic things so I'll spoiler the lot;
Spoiler: show
Columbia itself is a great setting, and the temporally displaced music is a treat. 1912 versions of "God Only Knows" and "Tainted Love" (just to name my favourites) were great. Elizabeth is both engaging (when not being narmy) and very useful in gameplay, plus just a little bit scary (bonus points for when she wipes out a room of her captors by summoning a tornado on them). The Luteces line in enigmatic appearances is also brilliant without ever getting annoying - they are arguably the best thing about the game. Arguable because it also contains Songbird, the utterly terrifying bird monstrosity dedicated to keeping Elizabeth in Columbia who turns up whenever things start going well to completely own you. Especially since you never get to beat it - Elizabeth eventually kills it when she gains full control of her powers by teleporting it into the deep ocean.

The ending was fairly well done. I won't gush about it as much as my flatmate did, because it isn't nearly as clever as it thinks it is (reminds me of Inception - it's cool and all, but becomes overly self-indulgent because it thinks it's genius when it's not particularly complicated). Credit where credit is due though, turning out that the main character is also Comstock and that Elizabeth is his daughter Anna didn't feel contrived, which is a great achievement for an endgame twist. All in all a satisfying conclusion to the game.

Overall, let's say 7/10. The story is definitely strong enough to carry the game, but you might as well speed through on easy and then sell the game back because when story isn't happening it's kind of dull. I liked this game quite a bit, but feel a tad let down because I wanted to love it and just couldn't.

I liked the VN so I figured I'd like it with gameplay and new story! Its yet another new type of game for me being that this'll be "mai first musou"!

- Fire Emblem: Awakening
This isn't hard to find! Or at least not anymore. Where I got mine there was a full row of 'em! Despite this being my first FE and initially being wary of jumping into a series I bit the bullet at full price cause the demo left a good impression on me.

Demo'd!
- Fire Emblem: Awakening
Shining Force !!!!!! When you're reminded of that ya know you're in for a good time. I always thought this series was more FFT/PKMN Conquest-like. But nope! Totally shining! And no 3/4 map view garbage! Win!

- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
I thought this was pretty blah my first time through. With some "encouragement" I ran through it again. And a third time! It was a bunch more fun when I had a semi-grasp of how to play. Still hate what's been done to Raiden character-wise. Also the whole spine ripping out finisher... yuck x.x Maybe snag this one day on the cheap.

S'been a while since I've played a game with proper bite. Three hours played thus far - got through the tutorial without dying but then proceeded to die a lot stumbling around areas with overpowered enemies before I found which way I was supposed to go. Getting to grips with it properly now, it's a fun challenge.

Beat (more):

Ys Origins
I beat one path in this intending on putting this down, but something urged me to play the rest of the routes. I ended up becoming really attached to Ys Origins after playing those two routes as well. It seems the first one was the meh one(it was still good though). The other two routes, especially the last one, were quite an improvement. It's such a shame that this is 600 years before the events of the other Ys games. I grew really attached to the cast of this game. That said....

Get/beat:

Ys 1 & 2 Chronicles
Yes, despite what I said about waiting for it to go on special before touching the other Ys games, I decided to buy this one anyway. Like Origins, these were fun, simple games. It's just a shame how short they are. These two don't give you enough time to grow as attached to the universe, since you quickly blow past everything. Actually I wanted to learn more about Feena and Reah, since Origins didn't really do too much with them. I still enjoyed these games, and don't regret buying them. Also the updated music was nice.

Haven't played much so far, but I must say this is an absolutely beautiful game, and it runs as smoothly as hell on my SLI setup. Then again, Unreal Engine games almost always run smoothly on most anything. More to come later as I play more.

My second time through the game took 25 hours longer than the first? Experience was on my side but in this playthrough I was "playtesting" a translation patch for the game an as such I did alot of unnecessary stuffs just ta make sure stuff worked. An it did... for the most part. I came across 3 repeatable game crashing bugs, 1 of which prevents progression through the game! Ack! All typos an stuff like thats been reported to the people working on it so the next release'll be that much better! As for the game itself it was fun! I knew what I was doing from the start this time around an figured out some things such as advanced farming techniques myself! Even though there's still an enormous amount of text not yet translated, what was there really helped me ta better understand the main storyline of the game even better so that was cool to!

edit!

Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi
- 02:07:00
My first musou game was short & easy! This can only be blamed on me for playing on the easiest difficulty with what I saw as the most balanced character. An since each character, I believe, has different stories & missions I've only really seen a fraction of the game. So there'll be more replays ta come. Repetitive voice clips aside, fun lil game.

Atlier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland
- 22:10:13
I returned to this game determined to get a real ending an well, I got the Normal end instead of the Bad one this time so I'm happy! Kinda. Normal end seemed more depressing than the bad one x.x; Using a guide, previous experience playing, an new game+ bonuses made this alot more fun then the first time through. Someday I'll get that True end but for now I'ma have it spoiled for me by moving onto Atelier Meruru!

Ys The Arc of Nephitism
So after playing 3 not great but enjoyable Ys games, I walked into my 4th one. This one was really poorly made and a huge disappointment. I mean, the hacking and slashing wasn't too bad, but for the most part, I mostly just kept spamming the downward stab. Then the platforming...oh god the platforming was fucking awful. In order to get to some places, you had to do this dash jump thing they don't even bother telling you to do. The commands for it is infuriating. It's so damn nitpicky that even after learning how to do it, it only works 25% of the time.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
I have been putting this game off for years, and I finally decided to play it. Being an older 2D Zelda, I was expecting to be bored out of my mind. Surprisingly, this was really fun. This game really tugged at my irritation at not being able to go places due to not having the right item. I spent more time trying to go places with my Minish powers than going through the story. Some of the puzzles were really neat as well. I just HATE what they did with fire. How they make you run around after you're hit with fire was awful. Otherwise, nice game.

I liked DKC & DKC2 and DK Jungle Beat sooo I couldn't just very well ignore a new 2D DK platformer! I played through World 1 so far an its nice an fun so far outside of some questions decisions (9 hits for the FIRST boss? non-customizeable controls?). Should be the first 3DS game I beat if only cause it'll likely be much shorter then the other 3 games I got lol.

Final Fantasy IV
After seeing so much Rydia art, this game has stayed in the back of my mind. I played a re-release on the PS1, but I quit before finishing, because the grinding during the last dungeon was AWFUL. The normal enemies one shot my ass, yet the experience they give hardly put a dent in my level. I decided to give the DS one a chance, since it hopefully improved these things. Also I want to know why the hell Rydia is so popular.

Since you say you already reached the final dungeon once before, my answer is not a spoiler for you. It would be for folks who haven't gotten past the big halfway point of the game though.

Spoiler: show
I think it's just that boys got really turned on excited by her transformation from little girl to physically mature woman as a result of her time spent in the land of the Eidolons. Said mature body is further accentuated by Squaresoft's choice of wardrobe design for her.

Aside from that, dunno what to tell you. For what it's worth, I don't really see that much FF4 hentai, and I'm not surprised by that fact either. Rosa dresses rather conservatively (DS low-cut top aside), and paradoxically Rydia doesn't lend herself well to an ero story for most readers. (I would presume that it's something like this: loli fans are turned off by her character because of the knowledge that she becomes a mature woman in the game; and mature woman fans are turned off by memories of her character as a young child in the first half of the game.) When it comes to Final Fantasy heroines, Tifa Lockheart remains the uncontested belle of the erodoujinshi ball. In distant second thru nth places would be all the other female characters (including those from VII again). As a further aside, with the exception of Tifa Lockheart comics, Final Fantasy doesn't have nearly the presence in the ero scene that Dragon Quest seems to have. For whatever reason, I see a hell of a lot more of the girls from DQ3 and DQ5 than any of the non-VII Final Fantasies. And I'd say that even the occasional DQ6 or DQ8 heroine shows up with greater frequency than, say, Rydia, Rosa, Rinoa, Yuna, or any other non-Tifa Final Fantasy heroine.
