Mystery Gift - What does it do?

You might have known the Mystery Gift option in previous Pokemon games as Mystery Event. Mystery Gift has been somewhat of a widely known secret for a while now. Basically, when the Mystery Gift option is acquired in a Pokemon game, you are enabled to acquire free gifts from a certain source, such as a console Pokemon game.

In all games, the method acquiring the option of "Mystery Gift" has stayed the same. There is always a certain person somewhere in the game who, after you do something else in the game (like beat a Gym), will ask you to give him some input about whatever. The same method works for this game.

In order to get the Mystery Gift option, you must first go to Jubilife City and walk into the TV Station. Walk up two flights of stairs to the third floor. On the lower half of the room is a man speaking to a woman.

When you talk to him, he'll ask for some input about a couple things. For the first pair of words, using ABC mode to quicken things up, put "EVERYONE HAPPY". Answer "WI-FI CONNECTION" for his second question.

After you've done this, save your game. When you start up your game, Mystery Gift will be a permanent addition. If you have a GBA Pokemon game inserted and you can Migrate Pokemon, the main menu will scroll to show the Migrate option in between Mystery Gift and Nintendo WFC Settings.

Like the previous Pokemon games, Mystery Gift is only useful if Nintendo takes initiative and creates a use for it, such as receiving goodies for your Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal from Pokemon Stadium 2, or having the ability to scan E-Reader cards and receive goodies from Pokemon Colosseum for your Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald games.
So according to this helpful guy, the Mystery Gift feature is legally unlockable (no cheating necessary), but it doesn't have any real use until Nintendo says it does? I don't get it. I thought that back in the GSC era, when this feature was first invented, it gave people rare and semi-rare items (like Lucky Eggs, Light Balls, and Bright Powder). Actually, according to this, I'm half right: nothing quite as good as a Light Ball, but still! http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/gsmysterygift.html

So ... I would have thought that unlocking Mystery Gift in D/P would have allowed us to go into the basement of the Pokemon Centers and to give items to each other. Sort of sucks that it may not do that. Any thoughts/knowledge on this?

Well, I think the guys mistaken about the thing in GSC 'cause I remember Mystery Gift as you face gameboys against each other once a day and both get some neat item.

I remember it was the only source of decorations for your room in GSC.

Not that I had people to play pokemon with. I did it with an NPC in Pokemon Stadium 2.

Sure it is the same thing, just no option for doing it with an NPC.

Re: Mystery Gift - What does it do?

Mystery Gift from 3rd Gen was when they gave you special event Pokemon like Metang or Items such as Birth Island Ticket, Navel Rock Ticket, Eon Ticket, and Rainbow Ticket.

It didn't do anything else in RuSaEmFRLG.

So we won't know what Mystery Gift in this gen is exactly until Nintendo kinda tells us. I'm pretty sure that somewhere down the line Darkai or Shaymin will be given out and that's when the Mystery Gift will be needed.

So ... should I go ahead and unlock it on my game? Or should I wait until Nintendo tells me to?

*doesn't want to unlock it and thereby ruin his game with a malfunctioning version of the Mystery Gift*

Yes, you should go unlock it.
