So like, they won't allow you to run two Monster Reborns because that (2000 pts) would be deemed too powerful. They also won't allow you to run one Monster Reborn and one Premature Burial (1800 points) because that would be deemed too good as well. You could run one Premature Burial (800 points), sure, but since you could also run one Monster Reborn (1000 points), and since you could not run two or more Premature Burials (1600 points), which is easier?

A: To tell the fans, "Monster Reborn x1 allowed, Premature Burial x0 allowed"?
B: To tell the fans "You can either run one Monster Reborn or one Premature Burial in a deck but not one of each?"

B is a rules nightmare because you have to print an entire new section in the rules about how some cards are legal on their own but are illegal in combination with other cards. It's not fun for them to come up with the rules and it's not fun for fans to have to keep them straight. It's just plain easier to remember, "Okay, I can't use ANY of this card, but I CAN use some of this OTHER card." And that's what they've done with Monster Reborn and Premature Burial. Because if you can use Monster Reborn x1 (1000 pts), and if you can use Premature Burial x1 (800 pts), and Monster Reborn has no penalty but Premature Burial does, which one do you think 99.9999% of the fanbase is going to run?

This is probably their logic.

But Monster Reborn used to be banned and Premature Burial not. Monster Reborn obviously just lets you revive a monster at no cost, while PB makes it so you must pay 800 to do so, and then if it get's destroyed, the monster does, too.

The only thing I can think of is there is some obscure combo I don't know about that broke the card somehow and made them ban it and allow Monster Reborn again, but I'm not sure what kind of combo it could be (if any)

Apparently... you should have a backup plan to your backup plan. Cards that stop traps like Mirror Force are good to have. And don't worry, once you add Exodia Necross to your deck, I'll mow it down, too.

Yes. Because in the past, they felt that 1000 points was too broken. So they set the limit at 920. Or 860. Or whatever. And Premature Burial, weighing in at 800 points, did not violate that. Then, some time later, they probably set the bar even lower. (Because everyone who had been using Monster Reborn was now using Premature Burial and still kicking ass since, frankly, sacrificing 10% of your starting health is worth it in a game of YGO more often than not if it means getting back your über.) So they set the bar to, say, 700 points, and now Premature Burial was banned too. Fast forward to the future (i.e. the recent past). They set the limit somewhere above 1000 but below 1600. Rather than unbanning BOTH cards and setting them each to a limit of x1 per deck AND having to codify something in the rules section which says "You can have one or the other in a deck but not both," they just said "Fuck it," unbanned Monster Reborn alone (since it's the clearly superior card everyone's going to be fielding anyway), and set its limit to x1 as they'd intended.

Deo and I just stalled each other for over an hour. Fuck. Then I won on a technicallity.

We both had like 50 cards in our decks and only drew during our draw phases. Muyo, Phoopes and Tuner can vouch for that.

I threw up Wall of Revealing Light at the beginning and sacked 3000 LP and he couldn't attack for about an hour. I kept losing LP at that point through cards like Magic Cylinder and card effects.

At the end he had taken down wall with an effect, I was at 100 LP, stalled long enough to get out a Jinzo and Chaos Sorcerer. Then, on a technicality due to my ignorance on another card's attack, I thought I had less attack than an attacking monster, when in actuality they were equal and should have negated each other, but I missed that and thought I lost, so I lost. Basically, an earlier card lowered one of my monster's attacks and I thought the effect was still in play even though it wasn't.

Also, we were only down to about 14-16 cards when the game was over.

Final score: 1300 - 0

I was ALMOST the comeback kid...
