Mercutio's: The Cookery Thread!
Hello UPN!
Spurred on by a comment in the ASB section (yes, I know, we should be shunned and stay in our corner) of UPN, I thought I'd create a cookery thread! Can you cook? Do you like to cook? What have you cooked? I want your favourite recipes and stories of experiences with cooking, baking, basting, anything you like. It can be family recipes, experiences of great cookery or just a list of your favourite food. A full on roast dinner or just the best darn recipe for beans on toast there is. Drink is great too, if you have a recipe you think we all need to know about. You might find a new recipe for it here, or you might just a easily find a new food to stuff in your face. It doesn't matter, just post something about food and let's all try and be a bit less hungry by the new year! There is only one rule: no marmite. |

It's the yearly visit!

So I kinda want to learn to cook. If anyone has any suggestions for some simple stuff to start off with or some easy recipes that would be super awesome.

This thread is awesome and Kush should feel awesome.
I'll probably post a recipe or two of mine tomorrow. Then again I only have like three things I cook regularly. |

Decidedly Epic

I can make a few things, spaghetti, tacos, hamburgers, pretty much anything that involves boiling water and putting stuff in it.

I can cook quite a bit and now that I'm on my own in an apartment, I've started cooking a lot.
Cooking is fun. |

I'm don't really have a large repertoire of dishes.
But I'm great at desserts! Ask me anything dessert related and I can probably answer it (?). Dessert decoration included. I'm also a master of the microwave, like how long you should microwave certain leftovers :P |

I just tend to make things up as I go along and use the internets for occasional inspiration. Don't actually enjoy cooking all that much, but I do enjoy eating so I try to learn a fairly wide range of relatively easy/quick stuff. Quite a lot of things I do are of the "bung a load of stuff into a single pot" style, although I'm not adverse to meat and two veg style things. Also cakes/biscuits/etc are always a win.
Made epic meatballs tonight (like, size of my fist epic :p). Tomorrow I'm thinking some sort of chicken curry.

If they were that big, how did you stop them from falling apart?

Half of them did fall apart :p. Other than that, egg and sufficient squishing (plus I don't exactly have particularly big hands). This is why I only made six and froze three.
Perhaps I should make them smaller in future, but this was funnier.

I'm a baker, mostly. I also can do some awesome things with meats and fish.
Also, my fish and chips are to die for. |

My brother's trying to get me to start cooking fresh fish, as opposed to shop battered/breaded stuff. I have no idea what to do with fish. Or what various fish tastes like (though I know that swordfish is amazing).
Someone tell me how to do fresh fish and what to put with it? |

Depends on the fish. Most of them you can pan-fry or grill just fine. Personally I like dipping a fillet of white fish in whisked egg then breadcrumbing it before frying it.
I highly recommend Monkfish as a roast dinner. |

Roasted the same as, say, a turkey (adjusting for size)?

Yeah. Basically you buy a monkfish tail, cut out the backbone, stuff it with whatever you choose (Rosemary's good), tie it up with string like a skillet of lamb, wrap it in foil and roast it up.

I can cook most breakfast foods (eggs, french toast, pancakes/waffles, bacon, etc.), but I don't know many recipes. I can do tacos, spaghetti, nachos, sonoran style hot dogs (the extent of my grilling skills), a coupla stir fries (but I barely remember how to do them), and fried chicken.
I'm also pretty okay at cookies, brownies, and cakes. |

I made a pretty good chicken noodle, too, with home made egg noodles. It was great, and we needed it.
Home made egg noodles are great. |

Just wondering, why is this called "Mercutio's: The Cookery Thread!" instead of just "The Cookery Thread!"? Is Kush going to be sharing some of his recipes here or something? :P
I live in quite a healthy house at Uni so I'm really good at making anything involving chicken, vegetables, salmon etc. Chicken breast is incredibly overpriced so I usually by a whole chicken which I direct and freeze since I'm not fussy about legs, wings, gristle etc. For some on topic food porn, I could sure eat this Cookie Pizza right about now D: Spoiler: show
