I've seen a lot of NFE's on showdown lately! Magneton, Porgyon2, Kadabra, and Piloswine are the ones I've seen so far *nod* Another pokemon that's new is the Pikachu-Belle, which I didn't know what it did until it killed half my team xd; |

Good job telling one of the three people who has consistently shown you sympathy -- with your family situation, with the death of your family cat, with your various Nuzlocke runs -- to go ahead and get fucked. Much appreciated. Duly noted.

So Pokémon. I like stallbreaker Mew. Is it at all viable in ORAS? Haven't played OU since the end of X/Y.

So...I've been curious to know, how is Mega Sceptile in the ORAS!Metagame?

Grass/Dragon is a horrible typing for a metagame that loves Ice Beam. And it cant hold a Yache Berry and takes the mega slot.
However, if you can pull the Entrainment Durant card on the opponent, its a great thing to have Smeargle Pass to!

Mega Sceptile does have some benefits. He basically walls Rotom-W to hell and back, with the highest speed of any dragon at 145 base, has Lightnngrod to turn Thunder Waves into special attack boosts and hits pretty hard from the special side of things. He is frail as crap though.

From what I've seen, Mega Sceptile's useable. Not great, but not terrible, and it does have it's uses.
Stallbreaker Mew is meh. Currently, every Stall team that knows what its doing runs Mega Sableye, which completely shits on Mew. I wouldn't say it's completely unviable, but its strongest niche as a stall crusher has been severely hampered.

The Eviolite-less NFEs have become pretty widespread apparently: in this one battle alone, we see a Gligar on my side and a Haunter on his. (A Haunter.) This is definitely not the Random Battle of just one month ago. I'll definitely have to see what it was that led to the higher ups deciding to retire the FEs for their NFE counterparts when none of the pro and con arguments that we could think of today are any different from the ones that could have been raised in previous months. (I'd say "years" but PS is only, what, just about two years old now?)

I personally find Mew to have an excellent niche on balanced teams. It can soak up hits from nukes such as Thundurus, Latios, and even Mega Lopunny/Mega Metagross, if you tack on some physical defense EVs. Simultaneously, it absolutely shuts down the likes of Ferrothorn and Clefable that you'll see constantly on other balanced builds. Having a general "fatmon" to work with, and also having a way around some of the better walls in OU are all but required on a balanced team before you can give the team any real offensive presence, and Mew fits both these rolls to a T.

For anyone still interested in BW2 OU, here's a link to a set against a friend on Serebii who's one of the better battlers over there. Neither of us played perfect because of rust and stuff, but it kinda shook off towards the later games. Definitely the best and most enjoyable games of competitive Pokemon I've had in a while.

Gen V OU was really quite fun, even if people think weather ruined it. Having experienced Gen VI, I'll quite honestly say that the loss of weather made OU less enjoyable.
That and Gen VI OU being completely overbloated with Pokemon.

It's almost like banning key threats has had a negative impact on the meta!

Gen IV was Smogon's zenith. Other eras may be held to be better by various fans, but the Smogon mission was at its best in Gen IV.
I like having a diverse OU meta. I also dislike Gen VI's ban council's actions. I'd rather see them more willing to adopt "the true meta" of Gen VI, but if the consequences of their bans includes a much more diverse playing field, then I think that's a pleasant silver lining.

Speaking of bans, that moment when you realize a bulky physical sweeper Empoleon with Drill Peck can handle Greninja better than the Dragonite you spent half an hour writing up a post for. It's kind of embarrassing yet so satisfying on my end because I love Empoleon to death.

One of the things I've played around with is a side board, and its something that I think is going to have to happen at some point, especially if we get Gen VII. Six Pokemon just doesn't cut it anymore, especially when threats like Greninja appear who are only stopped by specific Pokemon who aren't that good otherwise. Having the ability to swap around Pokemon I think would help to alleviate that. I think that Gen VI is also showing the failings of our current tier system. There are so many relevant threats from other tiers (UU, RU etc) that I think we need to be completely exclusive. Yes, some people will bitch and moan about it, but its definitely possible (and much more likely) to have an enjoyable meta with less Pokemon. Basically, we either need to:
