You honestly don't want to prolong the battle more than you have to, more so since you have other battles in Saffron on the brain. Indicating to Soulblade that it's time to take off the kid gloves, you have him light up his edge in metallic energy. A bit of fervored discussion here, a few frowns and grumbles there, as the crowd discusses your techniques. But it is Mr. Mime who feels the pain as Soulblade swipes down harshly, cleaving himself onto the creature's forehead. Mr. Mime looks fit to topple over as it struggles to get its bearings, while Estelle's lip trembles as she lifts a finger to her chin. "...Evident miscalculation," you barely hear her repeat to herself, as Soulblade brings the focus back to his tassel. A spherical formation of spectral power brims on his wavering cloth like a baseball within a pitcher's glove, and he lobs the ghostly explosive at his victim.

"Intercept! Copycat!" Estelle orders urgently, her hand thrusting forward as if directing her own Pokémon. In spooky synchronicity Mr. Mime mirrors its Trainer, bright lights from its fingertips manifesting a perfect replica of Soulblade's projectile, which met its counterpart before it could hit the barrier beast. A wave of detonated energy erupts from ground zero, washing over the combatants and spectators like a chorus of dying screams, soon parted as Soulblade cuts Mr. Mime across the cheek with another metallically enhanced slash.

"Payback, Fire Punch!" screams Estelle, giving you a surprise this time as Mr. Mime swings its hand in, catching the flat side of your Honedge with its palm and smashing him to the ground. Murder burns in the humanshape Pokémon's eyes, amplified by the damage you've been throwing at it. You wince slightly, thankful that you decided to balance the odds a little by inflicting a burn on Mr. Mime, but the tables quickly turn as the enemy's other hand lights up. Fire streaks along the air as the psychic fairy brings a burning punch onto Soulblade's midsection, grinding its knuckles into your Pokémon until it's satisfied. Unhappily Soulblade rises into the air, a lingering scorch on his metal body... which then fades. At least the burn your side received wasn't permanent, but both your combatants are starting to seriously tire from the intensifying exchanges.

"Psywave. Fire Punch. Fire Punch."

The Mr Mime continued to defy its defensive nature, much to Victor's surprise and dislike. He could deal with defensive maneuvers but their was only so much he could take on the offensive side of things. The Mr Mime seemed to have an endless amount of attacks up its sleeves, all of which seemed to be striking Soulblade's multiple weaknesses. This match up had to end now, offense was the only way to achieve it.

"They are in close range now Soulblade! Iron Pommel to the head to flinch it out of the Psywave, then give it two Shadow Balls!"

Hoping that the burn they had inflicted earlier would minimise the damage from the incoming Fire Punches, Victor watched eagerly to see if Soulblade would come out victorious.

You have a faint impression that both you and Estelle are becoming desperate, but given how you've been holding onto the distinct advantage since the battle began you're far less unhinged than she is, despite the surprises she's managed to throw at you. Before the mobile mannequin can move, Soulblade dives for it faster than the eye can see, and the next thing everyone witnesses is Mr. Mime tumbling backwards with its hands flailing and technique disrupted. Soulblade rotates himself again, having landed a direct hit using his handle, but this doesn't protect him from the incinerating punch Mr. Mime lands on his edge. Floating a foot or two away, Soulblade begins flickering his tassel again, but an interjection suddenly breaks the tension.

"This battle is over!" You instinctively step away, as Anthony walks out from behind his crowd, gesturing at Bethany and her protégé with a flick of his neck. "I think we've seen all we need to see here."

"What are you doing, Anthony?" protests the other psychic leader. "Both sides can still fight!"

"You don't have to be a seer to tell that this isn't going anywhere. Your champion's Pokémon can barely hold itself together, and the same goes for her." You note that Mr. Mime is certainly severely weakened, having taken powerful hits despite the aggressive front it's managed to put up. Estelle on the other hand maintains her steely glare, but this time her fists are balled and her knees are trembling, as if she cannot think of an out at this stage. "My selection defeated your chosen one, Bethany. Per the terms of our agreement, this debate is over."

"You'll regret this, Anthony! We have seen it, and your wilful ignorance will doom Saffron, as it will the entire continent!" Bethany shrieks, as she proceeds to sternly place a hand on Estelle's shoulder. At the cue, Estelle fires another glare in your direction before bedgrudgingly calling back her smouldering Pokémon.

"You know what's the funniest thing?" Anthony sneers. "If you were able to see all that, I'm surprised you didn't see the result of the battle coming." Giving an angry scowl as her final retort, Bethany ushers her group away from the arena.

"...So, before we were so rudely interrupted." At the Gym Leader's cue, the congregation of Trainers shuffles back to the table. "We'll have four groups of Trainers assigned to each direction, but the main force will be in charge of the route to Cerulean, as that's where the majority of supplies will be originating from. Half of those with any cutting or slashing specialists and implements will be assigned northwards so we can get Cerulean on board as soon as possible," Anthony indicates on his blueprints. "Panelists will be distributed equally to set up rudimentary Light Screen and Reflect passageways to establish boundaries. Everyone else will be in charge of making sure as little interference happens to them. ...All clear? Section leaders, you will be individually briefed and..."

The instruction eventually goes over your head as Anthony makes his selections, and you see Vivi walk out of the crowd as everyone else begins to mill around. You catch snippets of conversation - some expressing relief that the plan is going ahead, others indicating their concern over the clash of opinions that took place moments ago. Soulblade floats near you, worn from the battle but evidently pleased to have proved his and your worth.

"Hey, Victor!" Vivi's bright, confident voice catches your attention as the talented blackbelt beckons you. Around her a motley assembly of other Trainers regard you with varied expressions but refrain from openly commenting. You raise an eyebrow, not entirely sure what to feel about it all.

"So Anthony told me that the new guy's gonna be on the main slice and dice team. Can't say it's a surprise, but after seeing what you can do, I'm glad he made that decision," she grins. "We've got a bit of a break before we head out though, and I'm sure your guys will appreciate the chance to rest up after the training you put them through. Pokémon Centre's a stone's throw away, so you can meet back up here with us in half an hour."

Victor was a little annoyed when Anthony steeped in and interrupted the match, Soulblade deserved the victory he had earned. Just another reason to dislike the way the Gym Leader handled himself. Victor couldn't help but feel a little for Bethany's cause, Victor wasn't entirely certain that cutting through the forest was a respectful option. Despite that he found himself slapped into the main force of cutters, which made sense given his Pokemon and choice of side arm. Hopefully an opportunity would present itself for Victor to leave his mark on the project, although now couldn't wait to get his hands on Anthony and his Pokemon.

Given leave to take his Pokemon to the Center to get healed, Victor heads out of the Gym and heads for the Pokemon Center. Handing his Pokeballs over to the kindly nurse, Victor makes his way over to the now familiar Jeri Co Machine to see what treasures await him this time. Firstly he inserts a piece of mail and inserts a few of his TM's sending them to his long distance friend Amethyst.....

Quote:
Heya Amethyst
I hope your adventure is going well, I heard you might be challenging a gym soon?! Hopefully these TM's come in handy and you will come out 'Victor'ious.....

Enjoy- Victor
Suddenly a message popped up on Victor's screen and he could barely believe his eyes.....

Quote:
Hey there kiddo, it's your uncle Hank! I don't know if you knew but I have been in a coma since the disasters, I have no idea where your aunty and cousin are. How are the parents? I'm surprised your dad let you go off on your own. I'm making my way to Violet city now, let me know if you need anything!

Cheers-Hank
His uncle Hank was alive?! Last Victor had heard his uncle had died during the disasters, at least that is what his mother had been told. Hank also obviously didn't know about how his father had died and to be honest Victor hadn't thought about it in quite a while. He had been so busy with his adventure that he had forgotten about that dreadful day and what he had done to those who killed his father. He hadn't really experienced the same dark anger he felt that day, but just knowing that potential was inside him was hard enough. He knew he had to be honest with his uncle, it would be good to have someone to vent to and he would surely understand, from what his mother had told him, his uncle was a bit of a hot head.

Quote:
Dear Uncle Hank

I'm so glad to hear that you are alive! and I guess somewhat well? Anyways yes I have been busy adventuring through Kanto, I might make my way over to Johto eventually. I need to be honest with you uncle, dad is dead.
We were out in the forest on patrol and we were set upon by bandits.
While I fled to safely dad stayed behind, they killed him..... But I did something worse uncle Hank. Fueled by rage I cut them all down, I don't know what came over me, I just lost control. I left without telling mum/your sister, for all she knows I am dead as well, I can't face her, not yet. Goodluck tracking down your family, I am always here if you need anything and I will let you know if there is anything you can do for me.

Sincerely-Victor
Victor then hit the collect button on the machine and a bundle of supplies dropped out. 3 Star Shards, a Boat Ticket, a Hidden Ability Capsule and a Dream Ball. Not a bad haul, the Boat Ticket was an interesting development which could come in handy if he wanted to make his way over to Johto......

Having spent enough time in the Center, Victor collected his Pokemon and made his way back to the gym. He released Soulblade and Crimsonwing from their Pokeballs before entering, Soulblade attached himself to Victor's back while Crimsonwing took roost on his shoulder. Entering the gym, Victor made his way towards Vivi.

"Alright Vivi, I am ready to get started. I will follow your lead without question, well, without much question, I'm not a Mareep."

"Good to see you raring to go, Victor," grins Vivi, as she does up the headcount for her group. "No sense in wasting time here. Let's move out!"

You join the crew of Saffron's Trainers, counting roughly fifteen of them in addition to Vivi herself. Perhaps it's the division of manpower, but the difficulty of the task ahead dawns on you. If this is Anthony's largest group, it stands to reason that the other teams must be more strapped for numbers. It's no surprise that the locals need all the help they can get, considering that the Gym Leader's intention is to rebuild Saffron from the ground up. You still can't get used to Anthony's headstrong attitude or immovable sense of snark, but you have to hand it to the man for willingly forging ahead on such a great undertaking... even if you're one among others doing the grunt work.

"Okay, here we are!" As Vivi halts the group, you recognise the clearing where Peter directed you earlier. The ground near the makeshift entrance is visibly trodden from where earlier locals must have moved around, but no more than a few feet ahead is the virulently verdant vegetation of the Saffron Jungle, choking any opening or passage from sight.

"We're going to have to move carefully here. Anthony wants a straightforward pass like Saffron used to have, which means that anything in our way has to go. Lumberjacks will follow my lead in the centre; Reflect and Light Screen users will form the outward flanks. Anyone else who isn't within either category will line up behind the panelists and form the second line of defence," Vivi indicates as she pulls another Ball from her belt. "Idemey, help us out!"

Unlike the bulky form of her Slowbro earlier, Vivi's partner this time is significant sleeker, boasting a lithe blue bipedal frame marked by white appendages and joints and topped with an odd head formation that vaguely resembles a cross between whipped cream and garlic. It stands firm, striking a practiced pose as it sizes up the environment ahead. "Lead the way with your Psycho Cut!"

Several arcs of energy tear forth from the Meditite's palms as it swings its arms like dancing, tearing through the leaves and vines it comes across. A myriad of PokéBalls pop open, revealing Psychic and Fighting Pokémon of various builds. Time for you to chip in as well...

The force that Anthony sent to clear the path to Cerulean was much larger than Victor had expected, but nonetheless they were well drill. That credit went to Anthony and in part to Vivi who was doing an excellent job commanding the force. Victor was eager to get started, although a part of him still felt torn about the clearing method. Maybe if they cleared a path they could let the rest of the forest be? That would be a nice balance, if that was what Anthony intended. Victor released Soulblade, Shadowcaster and Crimsonwing from their Pokeballs, the three Pokemon await eagerly for their orders.

"Alright team, let's get to work. Soulblade lead the way, keep using Fury Cutter to clear a path at headed height. Shadowcaster you need to Copycat Soulblade every time he uses Fury Cutter, clear out the path directly under him. Crimsonwing, you and me have to clear away the debris, otherwise we are going to get all tangled up and end up hurting someone."

With a plan devised, Victor set his team to work, hoping to get this job done in good time. After all, he had bigger fish to fry.

From the perspective of an outsider, you admit that you have to give Anthony credit, observing the crack team that must have been assembled after bouts of no-nonsense planning and determined discipline. Maybe, you think to yourself hopefully, the Gym Leader planned on compromising and would leave the rest of the forest as is. Either way, that's not really your call to make, and you deploy most of your team to delegate the tasks ahead. Soulblade easily cuts into the air ahead, getting a good feel for the momentum involved, while Shadowcaster studies his movements closely. Leaping up, he lashes one paw forward, the tips of his claws streaking light green energy. At least it helps that he's got some experience with slashing attacks, and the accumulative nature of Fury Cutter can only be a good thing. Crimsonwing chirps brightly as she flaps her wings around your head, while other Pokémon assemble in front - Metang, Kadabra, Pangoro, Combusken, supported by their Trainers as they stand stalwart around you. Some distance behind you make out other silhouettes of Chesnaught, Machoke and Gardevoir with their hands outstretched and palms open, not unlike Estelles Mr. Mime from earlier.

At Vivi's cue the group moves forward, your Pokémon and Idemey using their smaller frames to get around their larger allies; a skill you are thankful they have as large paws and claws are landed everywhere. Despite their superior size, the deforestators still take their cues from Vivi's Meditite, only making their moves where the smaller mentalist has made its Psycho Cut, underscoring the clear chain of command. You feel your fears are somewhat allayed as you notice the clean, methodical way the boundaries have been established - as soon as the cutting group moves on the Pokémon at the back of the group set up their Reflect and Light Screens, establishing a makeshift passage. Maybe Bethany's concerns were a little over the top, you think, looking at how careful and controlled the operation is. You barely have much detritus to handle, and with the other Trainers flanking you, the load is easily shared. Soon enough you lose your sense of time with how smooth the task is run, but by the time you start thinking about it, you're certain you must have spent at least an hour or two.

"Penny for your thoughts?" smirks Vivi, as she strides alongside you. "Can't get the battle with Anthony off your mind, huh. ...It's no big deal, I've seen that look on your face plenty of times," laughs the Blackbelt. "Anthony's never been the easiest person to get along with, half the Trainers here've gotten into scraps with him. He's hard-headed for a physical fighter, even more so for a Psychic - but when push comes to shove he's pretty irrefutable when it comes to results. Most Saffronites wouldn't really say they're friends with Anthony, but most of us would readily call him the boss. ...Just don't let him get to you is what I'm saying."

You ponder this pearl of wisdom from Vivi, but abruptly Idemey gives out a cry, and the other Pokémon grind to a sudden halt, irritated grunts as they bump into each other.

"What's up, Idemey?"

"Medi..." Parting a thickly matted mess of vines and branches, the Meditite points ahead to what it's sensed. You see a... segment of purple, scaly anatomy, linked to another, but that's all you can see, suggesting that whatever it belongs to is pretty big. Vivi moves forward, carefully making a peephole for herself. Curious, you draw closer to her, and she allows you a peek - at the foot of a thick tree trunk stands a long, horned insect, its yellow eye darting from side to side as it waves its zigzagged horn threateningly.

"I was hoping this wouldn't happen. We need the route to be straight - but I don't think that Scolipede is going to just leave if we ask it to," Vivi mutters. "...Either we negotiate somehow or we chase it off."

Victor was pleased to be working, it let him relax his mind a little as he let his muscles do the work. The way the team worked was impressing to say the least, Anthony had definitely put a lot of time and effort into the operation. It seemed like they were going to be finished in no time, but then they hit a snag in the plan. A large and threatening Scolipede stood right in their path, at the base of a large tree that Victor seemed to think it was defending. Calling Shadowcaster to his side, Victor laid out a plan that he hoped would please both parties.

"Alright Shadowcaster, time to put your talents to good use. Remember how you used your Extrasensory skills to trick me during the Dark Trial? Well we are going to use that again but amp it up a notch. I want you to use your Extrasensory to determine a Pokemon that it trusts or has feelings for and then use your Illusions to convince it that you are that Pokemon. Talk to it and throw in some Fake Tears. If it is defending someone or something, tell it that you need to leave now or risk getting hurt. Tell it that everything will be okay as long as it avoids aggression. Try to lead it deeper into the forest, once you are far enough away you can drop the illusion and make your way back." Victor smiled at the Zorua, he knew it would take the situation seriously and do his best to convince the Scolipede.

"Vivi we have to give Shadowcaster some time to try and convince the Scolipede", Victor pleaded with the Gym Trainer, hoping she would understand. "If the Scolipede feels threatened then we will find ourselves in more trouble than we need."

Recalling your own two cents on the matter, you decide that if you can find a solution that doesn't require conflicts on either side, you'd rather take it. Handily enough, one of your team members just happens to fulfill that role, and you'd already witnessed how good he is at it. You give your Zorua a rough plan, and he gives you a curt nod, leaving you to explain the idea to Vivi. "Sounds like a risky move, but if it'll get the job done with minimal fighting I don't see a reason not to try it out," she agrees, motioning to the other excavators around you. "...Sartor, Broca. You're on backup if the Plan A goes south."

A grunt and nod are the only responses she receives, and the team leader gives you a thumbs-up for the go ahead. You pry back the leaves as Shadowcaster looks at Scolipede, registering a glint in the Zorua's eyes as he does his work. The saliva in your mouth dries up as Scolipede rears its head and bristles, but this lasts merely for a few seconds before it calms down again. His mindreading done, Shadowcaster squeezes himself into the open. A second later, your view is suddenly obscured as the silhoutte of an Exeggutor shimmers in front of you - this one of the Kanto variety. Not what you expected, but all you can do at this point is hope Shadowcaster knows what he's doing.

"Xegg, tor exegg exegg..." "Scooooo!"

If not for the covert nature of the operation, you wouldn't mind sitting in the conversation to guess at what they're saying, but whatever it is at least it seems to be working for a minute or so. More terse moments of waiting later, Shadowcaster the "Exeggutor" gives Scolipede what looks like a rather authoritative nod, and Scolipede bows in acquiescence, slinking away with rustles and crashes through the undergrowth. It's another couple of minutes as everyone waits with hearts in mouths, but nothing happens following the departure of the titanic centipede. Another shimmer appears as Shadowcaster sheds his illusion while panting heavily, feeling the exertion of the convincing hallucination he had to pull off.

"Huh. I guess it'd make sense for an Exeggutor to be the head honcho around here," mutters Vivi, as your advance group slowly mills out onto the small clearing around the tree. Now that you've got a chance for a closer look, the tree looks at least twice as high as the others you've come across so far and three times as thick - there's no denying that you'll be spending another lengthy portion of time dealing with it.

"We'll have to break it apart," Vivi decides. "Victor, Idemey's going to partner with some of your Pokémon and clear out the branches with us coordinating from the ground as best as we can. This way the others have got a clean sweep with felling the trunk. After that it'll be easier for the backup to haul the wreckage away from the path, got it?"

Victor had to hold in his cheers, even though Shadowcaster was incredibly successful with his ruse, he didn't want to risk blowing it. Victor found it a little weird at first that it was an Exeggutor that the Zorua had plucked from the Scolipede's mind, but it made sense that a strong Grass and Psychic type Pokemon would be an authoritative figure in this area. With the Scolipede now gone, there was only one obstacle left in their path. Vivi had given them a job and he wasn't about to let her down now.

"Alright team, one final push. Crimsonwing, cut down the higher branches with Drill Run, we have to avoid using Fire moves, the last thing we want now is for that prophecy to come to life. Soulblade, let's be a little bit more delicate and use Iron Slash to clear away branches around the middle. Shadowcaster, Fury Swipes, do your best to clear away the lower branches."

Satisfied that you only have one final, significant obstacle to handle for the moment, you instruct your team closely to account for the increased finesse in their deforestation. Crimsonwing navigates her way up the canopy as Idemey disappears along with her behind the layers of leaves, and Soulblade follows suit. For a while nothing seems to happen until you hear the Meditite cry out, followed by the sound of cracking wood. You find yourself having to dodge to the side as a piece with several branches comes crashing down. As soon as the dust clears some of the other Pokémon behind you quickly come to take it away, just as you hear a noise not unlike a miniature chainsaw. More twigs and leaves scatter upon you, soon joined by larger portions as you catch a glimpse of a glint from Soulblade's edge, and there's really little more you can do aside from trying not to get hit. Despite the payload getting chucked down, any accumulation is just as swiftly removed by the other Trainers and their Pokémon, and it goes on for a full twenty minutes before Shadowcaster blinks from the beams of sunlight peeking through from above.

"Good work, Victor. Alright, cutters get to work as soon as it's an all clear! I want Broca on support with Wernicke and Delta, stat! Idemey, bring Victor's team down!"

You find yourself inadvertently shoved as the others assume their positions - Metang, Combusken and Kadabra go past you as the Chesnaught and Machoke from behind joins up with Pangoro. Feeling that it's a cue for you to stand back, you direct Shadowcaster to the side as Vivi's Meditite descends with Soulblade and Crimsonwing. At once the three cutters start throwing attacks at the trunk, paring and clawing and slashing away at the bark. The exposed wood is just as quickly demolished, and the sound of growing groans start to echo as the tree's centre of gravity starts to kick in.

"Timberrrrr!" hollers Vivi, and the three cutters scramble out of the way. This leaves Pangoro, Machoke and Chesnaught to rush forward, grappling the tree and carefully, strenuously bring it down towards Saffron. A bit of scratching is heard as the cleaned trunk brushes against the Reflect walls, but the psychic panels manage to hold together as the three bulky Fighting-types let the lumber down gently. In short order they begin pushing the heavy trunk back towards the town. "Take a minute's breather, everyone," Vivi advises. "We've still got the rest of the way to go."

***

Time marches on, as does the lumberjack expedition, and when you finally breach past the last clump of shrubs and branches to see the Cerulean outskirts the sun has already moved towards the midafternoon position. You heave with your hands on your knees; while the task didn't sound like much this morning, repeated clearings of forest detritus and litter have left you significantly drained. The next thing you know is Vivi giving you a firm handshake while Chesnaught and the others set up the final Reflect.

"I'll need to do some liaising with the construction supply side in Cerulean, but aside from that, fantastic job Victor. I've already held a debrief with the other regulars, but you can report back to Anthony about that gym match - I've already given him a status report," she explains. "Don't start without me though; I'm very interested in seeing your team in action again."

You manage a tired nod as she hands you two Sitrus Berries, $1000 and a Star Shard, before you join the milling Trainers headed back to Saffron. They regard you with polite nods but nothing more, perhaps just as curious about how you're going to do...

Worn out from the long day of hard work, Victor left Vivi to her work, "I will be leaving the Gym match for tomorrow anyways, I'm going to try and get some more training done once I get back to town." With that Victor made his way back towards Saffron, recalling his Pokemon into their balls to preserve some of their energy.

The new path made the trip much easier, it didn't take anywhere near as long for him to reach Saffron now. He made his way to the Pokemon Center, his Pokemon would need a quick visit before they trained some more. Leaving his Pokemon with the nurse for a moment, Victor made his way over to the Jeri Co machine.

Pressing the button on the machine, a small parcel of goods dropped out. Victor collected 3 Rare Candies, a Flying Gem, an Egg Candy, a Deluxe Candy, a Birthday Cake Slice, TM Volt Switch and a Platinum Pokeblock. He quickly inserted a piece of Steel Mail into the Machine with the TM Volt Switch, sending it off to a friend who had been looking for it. He then inserted a piece of Bubble mail to retrieve his TMs that he had sent to his new friend Amethyst. The Jeri Co machine suddenly beeped, it seemed his friend had received the TM Volt Switch and sent him a TM Snarl as a thank you.

Victor collected his Pokemon from the Nurse before releasing Soulblade and Shadowcaster out in front of him. He gave the Birthday Cake Slice to the Honedge and the Platinum Pokeblock to the Zorua. Both hungrily devour the offerings, Soulblade glistens brightly as his mood reaches the maximum level.

His Pokemon now healed up and ready for some more training in preparation for their gym match, Victor made his way back to the Gym, intent on finding Anthony and expressing his interest in battling him tomorrow morning.

The journey back to Saffron is mercifully shorter given the extent you've exhausted yourself, and you resolve to take on Anthony the following day after getting in some rest and last-minute training. Wasting no time at the Centre, you begin settling your accounts while the medical staff oversee your Pokémon's health, organising upgrades and inventory to your satisfaction. The afternoon sun continues to creep across the sky after you barge out of the Pokémon Centre, headed straight for the gym to make all the hay you can while it's still light out.

Your enthusiasm inadvertently makes you send the doors to the Gym flying open, drawing a few looks, but there's something about the nods and glances in your direction that feel a little more demure and respectful than the curious reception you had upon your first arrival. You head straight for Anthony, still overlooking his blueprints and scribbling notes all over while barking orders into a mobile phone.

"...Alright. I'll come around later and reinforce them with Light Clay. Good work, Vivi." The brainy brute terminates the call, then looks up from his charts to regard you. "You performed adequately at the frontlines, so I was told. It's enough to earn you a chance for the Marsh Badge," he remarks curtly, and listens as you inform him of your plans. "An acceptable schedule - I was going to personally look over the progress on the four passageways, so not having to tussle with you works out for our opeations. Peter!"

"Aye, Anthony?" The first Saffronite you crossed paths with walks over when called, with only a slight limp indicating his earlier condition.

"Peter stayed behind in the gym on account of his previous accident. Since most of the active Gym Trainers are either still out there being lumberjacks or resting from it he'll have to supervise your last-minute efforts," Anthony explains as he looks towards Peter. "I'll be liaising with Vivi. Try not to let the gym burn down when I'm gone."

"You got it, boss," salutes Peter as the bulky leader takes his leave. "I heard about the fight with Bethany earlier - and it sounds like Anthony was very impressed with how you handled several situations," Peter remarks to you. "...We'll have until the sun sets to hold your training; gym regulations mean we're closed for the night. Gotta say, I'm intrigued to see how you plan to defeat our Leader."

With the time and date set for his second Gym match, Victor was buzzing with energy, despite how much he had exhausted himself today. Anthony left him the Peter, the Gym Trainer seemed to be doing much better than he was but that wasn't enough for Anthony to put him back on duty. Instead he was instructed to help Victor prepare.

"Good to see you on the mend Peter. I think my team pretty much speaks for my strategy." Victor released Soulblade, Abysshunter and Shadowcaster from their Pokeballs. "As you can see, we have a considerable type advantage over Psychic Pokemon, Abysshunter might be a Water type but he is more than capable of dishing out the hurt." Victor looked over his team, he was confident he could match the Gym Leader for power, however outsmarting him seemed a little ambitious. Victor pulled out the TM Snarl he had received from his friend and aimed it at Shadowcaster.

Shadowcaster learnt Snarl!

"Alright Peter I need to teach TM Snarl to Abysshunter, he has access to other Dark moves and a couple of sound and fear moves, it should be easy enough for him to grasp."

Now the likely more difficult task, but one that Victor had been thinking of for a while. He retrieved the TM Psychic from his bag and handed it to Peter. "I would like to teach Shadowcaster how to use Psychic", Victor looked at the little Zorua fondly. "He has shown Psychic potential through his mastery of Extrasensory and he has even communicated with me telepathically before. My hope is by teaching it Psychic, we might be able to develop that telepathic bond a bit further."

His intentions for the training laid out, Victor ordered Soulblade into position. "Soulblade will act as our target, his ability No Guard should help to make sure the attacks are accurate."

"Ah, the ole type advantage strategy. It's a strong one, but don't think it's something Anthony's never seen before," instructed Peter. "Come on. We'll use a spare dojo for your training." Peter and Victor heading through the worn halls of the former station until reaching a somewhat out of place door on the left wing of the gym. A hardened steel door had been installed in the shoddy wall. Contrasting the archaic bulk of the gym, the room inside the door was spotless, decorated with wooden floors and a plush mat in the center. "We don't have much around here, but one of the first things Anthony did when he took over was to clear out some of the trees closest to the city and put'em to use. I think it turned out pretty well," Peter commented.

"Now, let's start with your Huntail. Snarl is a move that imbues a low, bellowing growl with Dark energy. So with chompers like those, I'll assume Abysshunter knows Bite," guessed Peter, now turning his attention to the Pokemon himself. "Start by channeling the energy for a Bite attack, and while it's there, let out your fiercest growl."

Focusing, Abysshunter clenched his mouth, a dark shadow crawling out from underneath his gums to envelop each and every tooth. Meticulously, he opened his mouth, easily retaining the energy. Moving onto the next step, the Huntail took a deep breath in, but rather than creating a threatening rumble, a sharp, high pitched cacophony echoes throughout the training room, the dark energy dissipating from the harsh vocals. Both trainer's hands shoot to their ears to try to protect themselves from the mind numbing screeches. Luckily, the noise subsides, Peter sighing with relief.

"Alright...that's a start, I guess. You've got the energy part down. Now, you've just gotta get your voice lower. Take it slow. Let it rumble inside you for a little bit, and then control it's release. It needs to be curt and fierce, not disorienting," corrected Peter. Taking the advice, Abysshunter set out to the corner of the room to practice his control, leaving Peter and Victor to turn their focus to Shadowcaster. "Alright. Before we get into this, I just want to make sure you understand that there's a pretty huge difference between Extrasensory and Psychic. Extrasensory is all about manipulation. When he talks to you or makes you see things, he's not injecting any thoughts into your brain, but rather manipulating the space around you so that your brain receives different signals, giving you a false reality," lectured Peter. "Psychic communication is planting them directly in your brain. I'm sure you can take it, but it'll hurt like a bitch for a pretty long time...maybe even every time you communicate with it since he's a Zorua. And either way, until he's proficient, either one will be very taxing on the little guy," finished Peter, making sure Victor understands the difficulty of the process. "I'm sure you can take it though, so let's see what he can do."

Leaving its trainer's side, Soulblade hovered to the center of the mat, bracing itself to take the ineffective assault. Placing himself on the edge of the mat nearest the door, Shadowcaster closes his eyes in preparation. "Ok. What you'll need to do is imagine the scene around you. Luckily, you should be pretty good at this, since Zorua have heightened senses. Now, draw the power within you, and in the picture you have in your mind, propel the energy forward, into your opponent," directed Peter, obviously in his element. The first attempt was...rough, to put it kindly. In front of Shadowcaster, a pitiful splurge of energy appeared in front of his nose, only to immediately fizzle and disperse. As the Zorua continued to practice, Peter turned his attention back to Victor.

"It's a difficult move. He should be able to use a moderately powerful version by the end of the day, but any sort of telepathic communication will probably have to wait until he gets more comfortable with the move," explained Peter. As the two watched on, Shadowcaster's progress became evident. Soon enough, he was producing well defined waves of shimmering cyan energy, though they faltered out of existence before they could reach Soulblade. When the Zorua reached the halfway distance marker, Abysshunter returned to his trainer's side, performing a succinct, intimidating Snarl to display his mastery. The rest of the evening seemed to pass by rather quickly, the group enjoying a casual atmosphere as they supported Shadowcaster's efforts. Finally, just as the sun set below the horizon outside the gym, Shadowcaster's wavering Psychic blast hit its mark, washing over the Honedge's sturdy body to little effect. Noticing the time, Peter stood up.

"There it is! Great job," he congratulated the Zorua and his trainer. "I know we weren't able to reach the heights you wanted, but some of these things take time. And speaking of time, I've gotta go make my nightly rounds. I'd suggest you go and get a good night's rest at the Pokemon Center. I'll call over and book a room for you, on the house. See you tomorrow," waved Peter after ushering Victor and his party out into nightfall of the fallen city, leaving him to his own devices to get some shut eye and make any final preparations come morning.

Pleased with the steps his Pokemon had taken during their training, Victor thanked Peter for his help before recalling all three of them and making his way back to the Pokemon Center. Victor handed over his Pokemon to the nurse and enjoyed a flirtatious talk with her while they were healing. He collected some dinner for all of them from the kitchen and took it to the room Peter had happily organised for them. Placing the bowls on the ground, Victor waited patiently for his Pokemon to finish eating before engaging them with the plan for their impending Gym battle.

"The team is obvious guys, sorry Crimsonwing you will be sitting this one out, but that doesn't mean you won't be making an appearance." The Fletchinder flew over to land on Victor's shoulder, he scratched the feathers on her stomach lightly. "Shadowcaster, you will be taking the Illusion of Crimsonwing when you come out, it might give us a slight element of surprise. You also have the Darkinium-Z, be prepared to use it if we get stuck in a tight spot but I want to avoid it if possible since Anthony can then use a Z Move as well." The Zorua nodded before quickly shimmering and taking on the illusion of a Fletchinder. "Excellent work, now Abysshunter we havent tried this yet but I believe it will work. You know Rain Dance now and your ability is Swift Swim. We already have our bubbles to move around on land, but the rain should hopefully increase our speed and give us a speed advantage." The Huntail wriggled in pleasure, eager to try out the new combo. "Soulblade, you know what you are doing at this point, we exploit the weaknesses, punch holes through their defenses and most importantly, we never give up." The Honedge unsheathes itself, its polished blade glistens in the light. "Sleep well everyone." Victor recalled the Pokemon into their balls, all except Shadowcaster who he decided could sleep with him, hoping it would strengthen their bond somewhat.

******************

Victor awoke at the crack of dawn, Shadowcaster was already up and staring out the window ominously. Victor dropped to the floor and pumped out some push ups, hoping to trigger both mind and body through the exercise. Stomach to nervous to hold down breakfast, he made his way out of the Pokemon Center, giving the nurse from the previous night a flirty wink. It was finally time, although he didn't dislike Anthony as much as he first had, he was still motivated to go at the brainy brute with everything he had. He closed in on the Gym, this was it, his second gym match!

As Victor closed in on the gym, he was treated to a rather...annoying sight. Leaning nonchalantly against the barred gym gates, Anthony sized Victor up upon his arrival before smirking. Standing straight, Anthony placed the sweat-drenched towel in his hand around his neck before gripping the barricades. Removing them with ease, he moved onto the second step of unlocking the gym, placing his hand in the dead center of the gating and focusing intently. With a click, the gates seemed to separate slightly, whatever force that was binding them together having been broken by the telekinetic prodigy. While he propped the gates wide open, Anthony began addressing Victor.

"You're late," claimed Anthony, the smug grin never leaving his face. "For a second I had you pinned as a hard worker, but I must've been mistaken if you can't even fit in your workout before the break of dawn hits. Vivi will take you to the battlefield..." without facing Victor, Anthony paused in the middle of the gateway. "...Get ready."

With that final demand, Anthony headed into the darkened interior of the gym, quickly vanishing from sight. Victor, however, didn't have a plethora of time to think about those words, since as soon as Anthony vanished, a voice called out from behind the challenger.

"Victor! I'm back!" shouted Vivi, enthusiastically waving to catch Victor's attention. "I had to get up early this morning to make the trip, but like I said, I wouldn't miss this for the world. Thank Mew we finished the path yesterday. We'd better not keep Anthony waiting...even though he's been working me like a slave for the past few days," chuckled Vivi in a mockingly annoyed voice. Despite the underlying hints of truth in her comedy, it was evident that she appreciated and enjoyed the workload. "Just follow me!"

The inside of the gym remained dim as the two traversed into the station, but Vivi helped light the way as they went. The anticipation continued to build, the pounding of the pairs footsteps on the hard tiled floor providing the only sound for the journey, leaving Victor's mind to wander. After what seemed like hours of walking, the duo approached a trio of arched passageways, but only the center one remained ungated. Tapping him on the shoulder, Vivi stopped Victor for a moment.

"Just walk through that arch, and the battle will begin. This is where I'll have to leave you, but don't worry. I'll be watching you and your interesting team from the stands to the left of you," she assured, motioning to the left gateway. "Well...good luck, Victor. I hope you're ready."

Finally, Victor was left alone. Around him, the shadows and dim lighting that his Pokemon preferred prevailed. But in front of him, a blinding light obscured his vision, preventing him from seeing any of the battlefield until he left the comfort of the darkness. Out there, he could already tell that there wouldn't be anywhere for his Pokemon to hide. After a few moments, he trudged ahead, into the light.

"Doing things in a timely manner just isn't your thing, huh?" taunted a voice as soon as Victor entered the arena. Even though his eyes were still adjusting to the sudden rush of light, it was obvious who the speaker was. "I thought that after how directly you dealt with Estelle, you'd be more direct about things," continued the gym leader. Finally rubbing some vision back into his eyes, Victor was faced with the distant sight of that unbearable smirk yet again. However, not even the irksome nature of Anthony's jeers could distract Victor from the bizarre arena in front of him.

Despite it being no longer in use, Victor found himself in the heart of the Magnet Train Rail System. Overhead, a high arched ceiling connected his platform to Anthony's. Studying the opposite side of the arena, Victor noted that each trainer was on a raised plateau, each of which had a steep drop off leading down into the actual arena. There, the floor was somewhat difficult to look at, reflecting the morning light that poured in from each of the arena's horizontal ends, the openings there made for the Magnet Train allowing plenty of light to seep in. The most striking aspect of the arena, though, was the line of five Magnet Train carts in the center of the stadium. One sleek front, three boxy passengers, and a final, obtuse caboose. While it did not cover the entire length of the arena, it stretched about a quarter to each side out from the center, meaning that any Pokemon wishing to cross sides near the center would have to either go through it or under it. Luckily, due to the height of his platform, Victor could see over the carts, allowing him to survey his opponent's side of the field. Victor took all of this in as quickly as he could, but soon enough, Anthony reclaimed his attention.

"Oh well. Your punctuality doesn't matter anyways. I was planning on knocking you down a peg or two regardless," he admitted, plucking a Pokeball from his belt. "I'll even let you choose second. Drowzee, go!" he shouted, throwing his ball to release an odd, bulky Pokemon with a bizarre snout. The yellow and brown creature landed squarely on the tiles of Anthony's side of the field, its hands moving hypnotically as it awaiting its challenger.

The arena for this battle was unexpected, for some reason he had expected a simply room with little going on. This would certainly bring in a tactical element, if he wasn't careful he would be outplayed by his clever opponent. He selected Shadowcaster's Pokeball from his belt, however that wasn't the name he intended to call out as he tossed the ball down into the arena.

"Go Crimsonwing!" A Fletchinder bursts from the ball, however Victor knew it was merely an Illusion. He hoped that Shadowcaster's increased psychic abilities and master illusion skills would allow him to hold the ruse long enough for Anthony to fall for it. Drowzee was a Psychic type, if it used a Psychic move against the Dark type Zoura it wouldn't do any damage. "Crimsonwing, Flamethrower as you arc around it, then go in for a Return." Victor then concentrated his thoughts, hoping that Shadowcaster might be able to pick up on them. "If they break your Illusion, hit them with a Snarl."

Upon seeing Victor's Pokemon selection, Anthony's cockiness simply increased as he chuckled quietly. Taking to the skies, "Crimsonwing" swooped over the rail cart, heading to the other side to attempt a clear shot. However, despite Anthony saying nothing, Drozee was already making a beeline for the very same metro car. Rolling into the opened entrance, Drowzee dove into the cart's center passageway just as flames ignited from inside "Crimsonwing's" mouth. Though not as intense as one might expect from a Flamethrower, the fire streams through the doorway and the subsequent window openings as the fiery bird flies steadily alongside the Magnet Train section, unsure of where inside the Drowzee has crawled to.

"Hmm, that singed him a little. Maybe you should start getting up earlier. Warm your Pokemon up before the fight of their lives. Otherwise, you get...that," he jabbed, referring to the imperfect Flamethrower. "But really, even if it was full strength, it's not our first time fighting flying opponents. My Pokemon and I know this station inside and out. The simple strategies of a simple man are no match for us," continued Anthony. "Now then, Headbutt!"

Suddenly, Drowzee appeared in the window "Crimsonwing" was fluttering in front of in his search for the missing Drowzee. Catching the bird unaware, he launched himself from the open gap in the cart, diving headfirst into the "Fletchinder". Upon contact, the illusion shattered, as Shadowcaster tumbled to the ground, the force of the attacking sending him flying in the direction of Anthony's perch. Ungracefully, Drowzee slammed into the ground as well, though he was more than prepare for the impact, quickly getting back to his feet. Victor notices that for the first time since he met with Anthony this morning, that pretentious smirk was finally wiped from his face.

"Huh...Well that explains the Flamethrower," noted Anthony, genuinely shocked. Almost immediately, however, his concerned expression shifted to that of determination, a stern look fixing itself on his face. "Alright then. Now that the games are over, let's get this beat-down back on track."

But before he could issue a command, Shadowcaster enacted the fail-safe in his orders. Licking his lips in darkness, the Zorua barked loudly and curtly, startling the approaching Drowzee as an ebony sound wave washed over him, making him grit his teeth in pain.

"That's nothing!" Anthony responded swiftly. "Meditate! Pound!"

Soon enough, the Drowzee's clenching relaxed, his jawline easing downwards, his snout becoming flimsy yet again. But when he reopened his eyes, Shadowcaster could see the fierceness within them, as they were fixed directly on the smaller Zorua. With an unexpected burst of speed, the Drowzee rushed Shadowcaster, its stubby limbs flailing wildly as it rapidly accelerated. Caught completely off guard by the spontaneous berserker's movement, Shadowcaster's snout met Drowzee's right hand. The impact sent the fox skidding along the ground before being stopped by the steep tile cliff at the side opposite Victor. His Meditation boosted rampage subsiding slightly, Drowzee now stared down his prey with an aloof gaze, awaiting his next set of calculated orders.

"That's right where we want him. Keep him on our side. Punish his trainer for choosing such a small, weak opponent for you. Make Victor shout," teased Anthony, a smaller smirk returning to his still serious face. "Make sure he stays here, and lay into him. Disable. Headbutt...Body Slam!"

Anthony was definitely more offensively minded than Marigold was, something he was actually glad for. The physical nature of the Drowzee was rather surprising but nothing he couldn't ultimately deal with. If anything it prevented the Drowzee from hiding in the arena as it would be forced to reveal itself in order to attack. To make things sweeter, by boosting its attack the Drowzee had revealed an opening.

"I didn't expect the illusion to trick you at all Anthony, so I will call that a little win. Shadowcaster, utilize their increased attack as you hit them with a Foul Play, sneak a Sucker Punch in before the Headbutt then Detect and then Detect and avoid the Body Slam."

OOC: Nope, I totally didn't forget that Disable in game is totally different ASB. Deeeeeefinitely did not do that.

"Hmph, Dark-types. No matter how hard you try, you just can't see through them. Enjoy your little victory. It's the only one you'll be getting anytime soon," Anthony retorted as the action started to unfold.

Hearing his orders quickly, Drowzee simply stood still as a statue, towering over the Zorua from afar. Suddenly, his right eye gleamed. Shadowcaster would have yipped in surprise, but he found his voice was shot, some sort of otherworldly force binding his vocal chords, as some dark energy lingered from the previous Snarl. Just as Shadowcaster arrived at this conclusion, his trainer's orders reached him, Victor's powerful voice carrying his words crisply across the terrain. With a sly grin, Shadowcaster dropped low to the ground before scurrying up to the imposing Drowzee. Though his expression is blank and detached, both Drowzee and Anthony sensed the devious intentions of the Dark-type, yet they were unable to react promptly given Drowzee's bulky form. Acting on instinct before Anthony could stop him, Drowzee attempted to shoo the little pest away, kicking a stubby leg at Shadowcaster, providing the Zorua with the opening he needed. As soon as the Drowzee lifted its right leg, Zorua, body enveloped in a darker hue than normal, tackled the grounded leg. Once Drowzee was off balance, Shadowcaster leaped into the air, tackling the Psychic-type in the gut, the energy around Shadowcaster pulsating as it became empowered by the victim's own stat boost. To finish the assault, Shadowcaster pursued the Drowzee as it retreated on its back towards its trainer, allowing Shadowcaster to retake the side nearest the railway. When the Drowzee heaved itself back to its feet, Shadowcaster crept down low, raising its void enshrouded tail.

"Back away!" sternly commanded Anthony. But it was too late. Before the Drowzee comprehended his trainer's orders, Shadowcaster planted another surprise headbutt in the Drowzee's gut, doing the best with what he's got considering it's hard for a four legged fox to manage an actual punch. Staggering backwards, Drowzee took a few deep breaths before straightening himself, needing some time to recover after the two exceptionally painful attacks. Once he had recovered, however, it let out a bellowing, enraged cry, and without fear, he charged Shadowcaster, headfirst. Yet again, the impromptu outburst of speed allowed the Drowzee to plow into Shadowcaster's side head first, knocking the smaller competitor into the side of the Magnet Train. Seeing his prey so vulnerable simply fed Drowzee's desire to inflict more pain. Following up on the previous attack, Drowzee took off towards Shadowcaster, steadily gaining more and more speed until finally, flinging himself into the air. However, after recovering from the impact with the train car, the trickster had been standing, waiting, and ready. Adeptly, Shadowcaster dodged to the side, narrowly avoid the brute's devastating slam. Instead, he crashed into a larger foe, the Drowzee's right side smacking against the metallic outside of the Magnet Train. Nevertheless, he swiftly pumps himself back to his feet, having taking much more serious bumps during his time training in Anthony's dojo.

For now, the ring had been set to neutral. Each competitor was about the same distance from Victor, but they were both on Anthony's side of the stadium. Shadowcaster stood to Victor's right, while Drowzee was just to his left. And as for his opponent...the second his eyes met Victor's, he was back to the usual.

"Hah, so that's how it's gonna be. When this is over, I just want you to remember one thing," Anthony requested, as his smirk faded, replaced by his threatening, stoic stare. "You asked for it."

Victor couldn't be any happier with the way his plan unfolded, much to Anthony's displeasure. He was actually somehow managing to outsmart the Psychic Leader, but he wasn't about to get cocky. Shadowcaster had played the first act of his plan perfectly but it was time for his intermission. The Zorua had another role to play in this battle and he would need much of his strength for the task ahead.

"Keep talking Anthony, the more you talk the less you think!" Victor couldn't help but have a jab at the leader, he just left himself so open to it. "Shadowcaster return", Victor held up his Pokeball and recalled the Zorua, Anthony would surely mock the tactic but it was what he had planned. Placing the Luxury ball back on his belt, Victor selected Abysshunter's Dive ball and released the Huntail on the ground below his platform.

"Activate Bubblestream! Then fire off a Snarl as you keep your distance, follow with a Shadowball"

"Heh," Anthony emitted a slight chuckle at Victor's quip, but it did little to put a stop to the leader's trashtalking. "Not all of us are as bad at multitasking as you are, Victor. I know it might be a bit much for you to comprehend, but I can talk, think, and kick your ass all at the same time!" he boasted with a cheeky grin, partly inspired by his comeback and partly because of Victor's decision to go for a switch. "Speaking of, Drowzee! Hop the bus and Double Team while he makes his substitution," commanded Anthony as Victor released Abysshunter onto the field.

Rolling through the opening in the doorway of the passenger cart, Drowzee landed onto Victor's half of the arena, his feet loudly landing on the tiles there. Acting quickly, Drowzee approached Abysshunter as the Huntail began to slowly rise off the ground, supported by a cloud of bubbles appearing underneath him. Swiftly moving from side to side while rapidly closing the distance between the two, the Drowzee creates two extra copies of himself, or seems to at least, the maneuver granting him an uncanny boost of speed. Hoping to keep more distance between his Huntail and the physical brawler, Victor issued his commands, hoping Abysshunter could maintain his offense at a distance. However, as soon as his orders left his mouth and Abysshunter's mouth began swelling with negative energy, Victor caught wind of Anthony shouting a counter, Drowzee's fist immediately crackling, small sparks and streaks of lighting bolting between it and the ground. Just as Abysshunter sucked in so he could then shout out, the three Drowzee's converged onto the fish out of water, smacking it with a vicious uppercut to the jaw, completely ruining Abysshunter's planned assault. Luckily, he avoided paralysis, and using the force of the punch, the Huntail slithered further away from his foe, towards his trainer's podium.

"See, I don't know if you know this, but my Pokemon and I have something in common: Telepathy. Now, because I don't want to break the rules or anything, I still shout my orders. All of my Pokemon just understand them a little faster than normal," Anthony smirked as Drowzee and its clones began to stalk Abysshunter yet again. "Mega Punch!" shouted Anthony, prompting the Drowzees to rush the water-type yet again. With little time to focus, Abysshunter tried its best to discern the true Drowzee, and taking a shot in the dark, he fired a pulsating orb of violet energy into the Drowzee to his right. Unyielding, the Drowzee barreled straight into the attack, both of them vanishing on impact. Releasing a yell of effort, Drowzee reared its fist back before driving it into the side of Abysshunter's head, him having turned slightly to attack his fake target. The impact of the punch is astounding, and while it may not have stung quite as much, the force of the punch sent Abysshunter back up against Victor's cliff-face. Disappointingly, Abysshunter found itself in a similar position to Shadowcaster, but on the bright side, Victor was now much closer. Sadly, this fact didn't leave Anthony at much of a disadvantage, the beauty of the split arena having revealed itself.

"Keep it up. Seismic Toss into a Skull Bash. Be ready for anything, and don't let it out."

Anthony continued to prove frustrating, both in his comments and his battling. The Drowzee seemed to possess speed he hadn't first expected, although it was probably partially due to Anthony's telepathic link with it. However the Psychic type was surely beginning to weak, it had taken quite the beating from Shadowcaster and it was time for Abysshunter to put the dream stealer to rest.

"Quick Abysshunter, ride a Surf right over the top of them! Then put it down for good with a Shadow Ball"

OOC: Shit no one else picked you up I'm so sorry. But on the bright side...

Though Anthony's distant shout echoed as it eventually reached the Drowzee's ears, the Psychic brawler received its orders almost instantaneously, its derpy, nonchalant grin curving into a malicious smile. Despite initially bounding forward at an uncanny speed for his frame, the Drowzee slowed momentarily as it took notice of an additional, expansive pool of water collecting underneath its foe. Making an adjustment at the last possible moment, the Drowzee leaped upwards to intercept the ascending Huntail, but its stubby legs could only defy the laws of physics so much. Unable to achieve the height he desired, Drowzee did what he could, grabbing Abysshunter's tail and holding on for dear life as the remaining clone vanished in the tide. Evidently bothered by the unapproved hitch-hiker, Abysshunter heartily flicked his tail, and the sliminess of his body and the strength of the current underneath him are enough to dislodge his aggressor. Swept up by the wave, Drowzee's cheeks expanded to hold as much air as possible until he crashed into the ground, the hard impact knocking the breath out of him. Sliding onto the opposite side of Drowzee, still surrounded by bubbles, Abysshunter turned around, back facing the out of order railcar, front facing his prey.

Noting that said prey was sporting numerous fresh bruises as he shakily returned to his feet, Abysshunter took to prepping the final blow. Jaw agape, shadowy, murky tendrils of energy coalesced in his maw, circling into an orb that filled his entire mouth. Willing to brave the evident danger, Drowzee lowered his head, gritting his teeth as he began his charge forward, a white plate of translucent energy shielding his head, growing thicker and more opaque with each accelerating step. His eyes devoid of mercy, Abysshunter completed his spectral attack, firing it directly in front of him, a deadline shot heading straight for the oncoming Drowzee. In desperation, the Psychic type flung itself forward, desperate to at least land a blow on his opponent, regardless of the searing pain he was bound to endure. With a frightening woosh of wind and an excruciating yelp, the ball exploded on the Drowzee's lowered head, but despite his complete loss of control, his body still flew through the air, his weight smacking into the side of Abysshunter's head for a glancing, but still hefty blow. Sent rolling across the ground, the Drowzee's momentum ran out at the base of the railway, leaving a motionless heap on the ground for one second, two seconds, fives seconds.

Nine seconds in total passed before the body erupted into a fit of violent quivering. Painstakingly, the shaking Drowzee used the railcar as leverage to gingerly return to its feet, unwilling to give up the fight until he literally could not continue. Although his breath was rapid and forceful, although his entire body shook with the slightest of movements, and although a comeback against this opponent seemed impossible, he looked his foe directly in the eyes. Even when barely conscious, his face radiated desire and relentlessness, a look that was now replicated on his normally smug trainer's countenance.
