Beginner Trainer Battle: Balmund vs. jolteonjak

It was late morning and the sun was making it slow trek through the sky fighting to warm the cool air beneath. The Stardust Fields sparkled just like its name suggests giving a magical quality. Its lone Cherry Blossom Tree stood tall and proud in the centre of the chosen arena, its leaves having turned blush colours and its blossoms beginning their descent to the ground. The referee waited patiently for her trainers to arrive and she soon spotted two familiar faces approaching deep in conversation. She was always happy to see friendly sportsmanship before and after battles, it showed a level of maturity that most trainers recently had been sporting. They finished their walk through the glistening grasses and she addressed them both.

"Hello to you both, I hope you're all excited and ready for this battle as I am to ref it. You chose a lovely arena on such a mild day so lets go over the rules and get this match under way."

Beginner Trainer Battle (Pokemon from Lv’s 01-25 used only)

72 Hr DQ Period
Arena: Cloud Garden's Stardust Fields: Gently rolling fields spanning as far as the eye can see. This battlefield is a 50m x 50m section of the large grassy plain with one lone Cherry Blossom tree standing in the centre.

She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Balmund to Heads and jolteonjak to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Tails".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:

– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round.
- I will then ref the first round.
- jolteonjak will then order their attacks for the next round.
- Balmund then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!

Chad walked up to the path leading to the battlefield. He had received a battle request from a seasoned veteran named Balmund. While Chad hadn't battled too often, he wasn't foreign to the idea of battling with his Pokemon team. Up ahead he noticed a figure walking in the same direction as he. He decided to hustle to catch up to the unknown trainer. Chad introduced himself to the trainer, and the two kept walking chatting about various topics.

Chad spotted lines on the ground indicating the battlefield. He also recognized the ref standing by the sidelines. She was a renowned ref in the land of Fizzy Bubbles, having reffed one of his battles in the past. The two trainers finished their chat to begin hearing the rules from the ref. Chad nodded in understanding. He turned to the other trainer, shook his hand, and wished him a great battle.

Chad turned to walk towards his spot on the battlefield. He thought hard about who would battle for him. Then he made his choice. He took a red and white ball out and enlarged it. He tossed it in the air. "Wooper, you're up!" The little Water Fish Pokemon appeared in front of him. "Ok Wooper, this is our first battle against another trainer. Let's work hard, and most importantly remember to have fun." Wooper smiled at Chad, nodded, and turned around to face Balmund.

"Let's see," Chad began by observing the battlefield, "start off by making some mud. Use Water Gun on the ground. Next use Tail Whip, and then use Mud Slap to reduce accuracy!" Chad hoped to get an early leg up on his competition. "I hope I'm not facing a Flying-type."

Both trainers arrive simultaneously, listen carefully to the rules before taking their places in the trainer boxes. Balmund had battled many times before but his record was slightly tarnished by his lack of victories but his opponent still held him in high regard. Balmund sent out his little Paras Saffron who had taken a knock to his confidence by his last battle where he was defeated but this battlefield was more suited to his typing. Chad looks a little green as he reveals his own Pokemon and realises the massive type disadvantage his little Wooper had but the Water Fish Pokemon didn't appear fazed. The referee raises her flag and the battle began!

Wooper starts by firing a Water Gun onto the ground making the mud slimy and wet, perfect for attacking with. Saffron meanwhile uses his claws to slowly Dig under ground and make his way over to his foe. Wooper looks around in confusion wondering where his opponent had gone when he feels the ground beneath him rumble and the Paras leap out striking him with his claw. Wooper falls to the ground but quickly gets back to his feet and spins around slapping Saffron in the face with a Tail Whip making his eyes water but not preventing his next attack. He releases a wave of sparkling purple Poisonpowder from his mushrooms and Wooper gasps as the powder covers him and enters his lungs leaving him coughing harshly.

Wooper glares at Saffron for infecting him with his spores and uses his tail to whip up the damp mud before him into a Mud-Slap right in Saffron's face. The Paras skitters back and rubs at his eyes, that mud was making it hard for him to see where Wooper was now standing. He looks about and thinks he can spot a blue blur so fires his Bullet Seed and scores a hit as Wooper screams in pain and tries to curl up to lessen the damage. Once the barrage was over he shudders as the poison eats at his health.

Chad winced watching the events of the first round. He wasn't anticipating such a powerful Bullet Seed attack. He couldn't imagine what Wooper must have felt. Why did he agree to battle a Paras without at least a berry?

"Wooper! Stay tough. I know we can turn this around!" Chad tried to reassure his ailing Water Fish. "Start by using Recover. Keep an eye out for more Bullet Seeds, and if he uses it jump in the hole to hide. When the coast is clear or if he never uses it, show off your own strengths with Acid Spray."

The match had gone off a brutally effective start, and though Saffron could hardly see it, he could certainly hear how much damage he had caused, a thing which he had a hard time believing considering how much tougher the Wooper seemed. Then again, he held just about everyone else in much higher regard than himself.

Balmund for thought for a second before issuing his orders. "It's not over yet Saffron, Mimic that Recover for later, then Hone Claws before retaliating with a Mud Slap of your own!"

Chad was horrified by how badly his Pokemon was injured in one round whilst Balmund was utterly impressed by how strong his Pokemon had proven himself to be against a much higher levelled opponent. With a 4x disadvantage against grass moves Chad knew he had to protect Wooper against those moves as much as possible. But for now he had to make things a little more even and Recover some health. Wooper glows brightly as he recovers most of his health but he feels a total drain from the move; it's a good thing he's only allowed to use Recover once per battle (OOC: as per my new descriptions =p). Saffron notices how useful that attack is and decides to Mimic it for later use.

Wooper waits a little on edge wondering if the Paras was going to use Bullet Seed again but he needn't have worried as Saffron instead spends time boosting his stats. He scuttles over to the tree and rakes his claws along the bark sharpening by Honing his Claws boosting his attack power. Wooper goes on the attack ready for some retribution. He spits out a bright green Acid Spray that covers Saffron burning away at his skin making him shudder in pain as he feels his defences melt away. Saffron digs his claws into the ground and sends a Mud-Slap in totally the wrong direction missing Wooper completely, damn that mud in his eyes!

Health: 86%

Now knows Recover.

Chad could breath a sigh of relief that his Pokemon had most of his health back from the Recover and now things were more even once again. With Saffron's lowered accuracy he managed to avoid too much damage but Balmund wasn't too concerned, he had his secret weapon that he had already proven to be deadly to the water/ground type.

Saffron is ordered to go on the offensive and he scuttles towards Wooper unleashing a Scratch across his abdomen. It looks as though his accuracy is already improving Wooper is quick to recover and plan on showing his true colours. He spins around with Ice energy charged into his slamming it into the Paras with an Ice Punch. Saffron fortunately manages to avoid being frozen and pushing through the pain rakes another claw down Wooper with a Scratch leaving a small red line down his back. Wooper smacks Saffron with his tail again with another vicious Ice Punch and this time Saffron looks alarmed as ice forms over his body leaving him completely frozen ... what bad luck for him! Wooper forgoes his last attack and looks at his work proudly but winces as poison burns at his veins ruining the moment.

"Such a turn of events..." Chad thought out loud. "I appear to be in a Catch 22. If I attack the Paras-icle, the battle will continue, and I could very well lose. If I don't, the poison will eat away at Wooper's health. Hmm...I have an idea!

"Run around to the other side of Saffron, so in case he breaks through the ice, he won't see you right away. Hang tight and watch Saffron this round. If he breaks through the ice, immediately use a couple Acid Sprays."

Such a dramatic turn of events! This wasn't over yet though, not by a long shot. Balmund wasn't sure Saffron could hear him as he was frozen over, but he knew he would definitely try his best to struggle himself free from his icy prison. Nonetheless, he would scream the same commands over and over until he got it.

"You gotta Recover off that damage buddy, then finish off two straight rounds of Bullet Seeds!

With Saffron frozen solid Chad is torn, at least he can't hurt Wooper but then again he couldn't attack Saffron otherwise he's break him out of the ice. Wooper waits for instructions and Chad decides to wait to see if Saffron break free and then attack! Balmund was concerned about his frozen bug and his dwindling health. He hopes that the Paras can hear him and recover some health whilst frozen.

Saffron stares openly at Wooper who waits for him to break free. Saffron glows a bright white having heard his trainer through the ice and begins to Recover his health. Wooper continues to bide his time waiting for the right moment to strike. Saffron tries to attack and break the ice, a glowing green energy forms within the ice before his mouth and it begins to vibrate as he uses his Bullet Seed to try and break free. The seeds start to make cracks along the ice and Wooper prepares himself by running around to face Saffron's back. Saffron completes his attack making a hole before his face and sending cracks along the length of the block.

He begins to wiggle and Wooper decides now is a good time to attack before he got free. He shoots forth a bright green blob of Acid Spray at the ice. It begins to melt it quickly and falls onto Saffron's skin making him cry out in pain but now he was free and would get revenge. Saffron turns around and charges up his Bullet Seed as Wooper prepares another Acid Spray. Both Pokemon release their attacks and recoil from the super effective pain of the blows.

Energy: 30%
Status: Atk + Def - Sp. Def ------

"Finish him, victory is within your grasp! Bullet Seed! Again if he's still standing after that!" Balmund commanded, deciding not to take any more chances. They had managed to recover the lead somehow after being frozen solid like a popsicle, and Balmund intended to keep it that way.

OOC: Its two dodges so I'm only counting the first Acid Spray as that makes your 3 moves.

It looked as though both trainers were ready to finish this battle quickly using their respective advantages their Pokemon had. Saffron was now frost free and ready to exact some revenge for being frozen. Wooper was still feeling the pain of the Bullet Seed and knew that another round would finish him off, time to get busy and acid the bug to the point of oblivion.

Saffron spits out another barrage of Bullet Seeds that Wooper just manages to avoid by leaping and twisting to the side. He looks relieved and waits for Saffron to attack again . The Paras sends forth another Bullet Seed and again Wopoper deftly dodges the attack, he was getting good at this. Wooper lands and spits out his own attack, an Acid Spray that covers Saffron and burns painfully due to his extremely poor defences. The poison eats through Wooper making him feel ill and weak, okay not as good a round as first thought.

Wooper nods and waits for Saffron to make his move, the move he makes is not expected however. He glows brightly letting off a Flash leaving Wooper with spots before his eyes. Saffron then moves on to the killer blow and lets loose a Bullet Seed, Wooper tries to dodge but with his poor vision he leaps the wrong way and gets pelted before falling to the ground thoroughly battered.

"Wooper is unable to battle, Paras is the winner!"

Chad watches the battle, shielding his eyes after the Flash blinds Wooper. When he regains his vision, he sees his Waterfish on the ground, fainted from his injuries. He walks up to Wooper and picks him up.

"You did a great job buddy," Chad reassures Wooper. "I'm sorry I failed you and wasn't more aggressive." He looks over to Balmund and waves, "Great battle man. You both did a great job!"

OOC: That'll teach me not to capitalize on a lucky break like a full freeze.

Wooper was still feeling the pain of the Bullet Seed and knew that another round would finish him off, time to get busy and acid the bug to the point of oblivion. Saffron spits out another barrage of Bullet Seeds that Wooper just manages to avoid by leaping and twisting to the side. He looks relieved and waits for Saffron to attack again . The Paras sends forth another Bullet Seed and again Wopoper deftly dodges the attack, he was getting good at this. Wooper lands and spits out his own attack, an Acid Spray that covers Saffron and burns painfully due to his extremely poor defences. The poison eats through Wooper making him feel ill and weak, okay not as good a round as first thought. Health: 38% Energy: 24% Status: Atk + Def - Sp. Def ------ Now knows Recover -used. He couldn't imagine what Wooper must have felt. Why did he agree to battle a Paras without at least a berry? "Wooper! Stay tough. I know we can turn this around!" Chad tried to reassure his ailing Water Fish. "Start by using Recover. Keep an eye out for more Bullet Seeds, and if he uses it jump in the hole to hide. When the coast is clear or if he never uses it, show off your own strengths with Acid Spray."

Posts: 2,465	The match had gone off a brutally effective start, and though Saffron could hardly see it, he could certainly hear how much damage he had caused, a thing which he had a hard time believing considering how much tougher the Wooper seemed. Then again, he held just about everyone else in much higher regard than himself. Balmund for thought for a second before issuing his orders. "It's not over yet Saffron, Mimic that Recover for later, then Hone Claws before retaliating with a Mud Slap of your own!"

If I attack the Paras-icle, the battle will continue, and I could very well lose. If I don't, the poison will eat away at Wooper's health. Hmm...I have an idea! "Run around to the other side of Saffron, so in case he breaks through the ice, he won't see you right away. Hang tight and watch Saffron this round. If he breaks through the ice, immediately use a couple Acid Sprays."

Balmund wasn't sure Saffron could hear him as he was frozen over, but he knew he would definitely try his best to struggle himself free from his icy prison. Nonetheless, he would scream the same commands over and over until he got it. "You gotta Recover off that damage buddy, then finish off two straight rounds of Bullet Seeds!

Balmund commanded, deciding not to take any more chances. They had managed to recover the lead somehow after being frozen solid like a popsicle, and Balmund intended to keep it that way.

If you can get close enough, use Ice Punch, hopefully to seal the deal!" (OOC: If that's too many moves, remove an Acid Spray please.) ^^

His trainer is similarly worried and so orders him to dodge them if they come. Wooper nods and waits for Saffron to make his move, the move he makes is not expected however. He glows brightly letting off a Flash leaving Wooper with spots before his eyes. Saffron then moves on to the killer blow and lets loose a Bullet Seed, Wooper tries to dodge but with his poor vision he leaps the wrong way and gets pelted before falling to the ground thoroughly battered. "Wooper is unable to battle, Paras is the winner!" Health: 38% Energy: 15% Status: Atk + Def - Sp. Def ------ Now knows Recover -used. Health: 00% Energy: 24% Status: KO's from his injuries. Congratulations to Balmund and Saffron. Is this your first victory? Well Done you finally did it ^-^ I knew you would eventually. Having a move that was so effective against your opponent certainly helped but you showed sound strategy too. For his victory Saffron receives this . He also receives two levels. Commiserations to jolteonjak and Wooper, you were a bit out matched from the start with a 4x weakness to grass attacks. You did well to come back the way you did in this battle and it was closer than expected. Wooper receives 1 XP for participating in the battle.
