Yeah, a lot of what Kaisap has said is what made he really dislike the series.

Also, the part about MORNING, have you not seen DBZ? lol. That's like 30 episodes for 5 minutes.

So first we're shown that doing as your superiors say is a good idea, then we're shown that if you're Eren Jaeger you should rebel and do all the shit you want, then we go back to "people get killed when you don't do as you're told".

A.k.a. it is shoved down our throats that Eren is THE EXCEPTION TO EVERY RULE EVER and everyone else is fucked if they don't go by the rules.

As someone who's gone by the rules most of her life I was not amused. The writer is losing credit fast if he(?) honestly thinks it's not glaring to the reader that Eren gets away with flipping the bird to military protocol because TITAN POWERZ or his solution is somehow better than the experienced adults'. I've lost count of how many times Eren should have been put on trial and/or killed for military disobedience.
Spoiler: show
What annoyed me was the sheer audacity those two idiots had to insist on going back for their friend's corpse. Compared to the risk of getting eaten by a Titan, who cares? =/ It's just a body. I thought after witnessing what the Titans can do, and actually seeing their comrade get killed, these soldiers were so afraid of dying they wouldn't set foot near one if they can help it. But nope! Let's endanger everyone's lives by disobeying orders for someone you know is dead and is no more than a hunk of meat!

It really feels like Armin is the only one to not have constantly questioned orders and protocol by whining to his superiors about it or getting into serious shit by acting out. Either this new generation of soldiers is absolute shit and bringing everyone else down (my guess) or the army itself is kinda shit and it just happens to be exploding in the management's face right now.

Whichever the case, I still blame Eren Jäger.

Episode 23

Welp, there we go. We all saw this coming miles and miles away, so of course we spend and entire episode having this "twist" told to us!

Spoiler: show
I can pretty much divide this episode into two parts:

The first part: proving that the Military Police is rotten all the way through in the beginning of the episode by showing incompetent leadership and MPs selling military equipment on the black market. Also religious nuts who think the walls are goddesses, but we already knew that.

The second part, the rest of the episode: Annie is the Female Titan.

HEY GUESS WHAT

ANNIE IS THE TITAN

BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING

HEY HEY

DID YOU GET IT YET

ANNIE
IS
THE
FEMALE
TITAN

The above is pretty much a representation of how the episode progressed. No explanation of motives aside from Annie's weird line about being a warrior, just the viewer getting beaten up the head with "LOOK ANNIE IS THE TITAN". Since I already knew this, and seeing as the thread figured it out pretty early on as well, this episode was almost totally unnecessary. This whole thing could have been stuffed into five minutes and then we could've moved on to Annie transforming and shit hitting the fan inside the walls. We already know she's the freaking Titan, what we wanna know at this point is why all of this is happening!

*insert rant on how SnK is slow as molasses*

And here's a spoileriffic thought to those who are following the manga or otherwise have spoiled themselves about this show:

Spoiler: show
I bothered watching the new ED for the first time today...has anyone else headdesked over the fact that we have Eren, Mikasa, Armin + good guys on one side of a wall and then Annie, Reiner, Bertholt and Ymir (and for some reason Krista) on the other side of the wall? Intentional or not, the only way to make the symbolism more obvious would be to print on the ED "THESE GUYS ARE GOOD AND THESE GUYS ARE TITANS IN DISGUISE".

Episode 23:

Spoiler: show
Like Kaisa says, the episode can pretty much be divided into parts -- the first half exploring the corruption of the Royal Guard, the second half exploring Annie's identity as the female titan -- and neither half was really necessary for those of us playing along at home. Well, maybe that's not entirely fair. The first half (the corruption half) can stay put since it shows us the corruption up close rather than relying on exposition to get us to accept that the Royal Guard is in fact a worthlessly corrupt organization. But the second half ... yeah, the second half was just pointlessly drawn out.

It didn't even make good pacing sense! Maybe they cut things out from the manga for the sake of time? I don't know? But like ... we went from talking about Eren and Elwin heading to the capital ... to Eren, Mikasa, and Armin already escaping with Annie's help. What the fuck. It makes no sense. When did this happen? How did this happen? Armin explains that Jean is the one in the carriage, and that's fine and all, but like ... how exactly did Annie help them get Eren out? Why did they even need Annie's help? It was so unclear to me. They seemed to know exactly where they wanted to go, and when they reached the underground tunnel, it was somewhere that they had led Annie to, not the other way around. So like ... if Annie wasn't an escort for them through the maze-like city, and if we didn't get to see how she helped them swap Jean for Eren, what purpose did she serve?

Unrealistic that they knew Annie was the titan yet they all tackled her rather than slicing and dicing her up immediately. Had they lopped off her arms and legs, she wouldn't have been able to pull the stunt she ultimately pulled. Is it barbaric? Sure. But have we already seen that they suspected Annie was the titan? Yes. (Armin more or less confirmed it when asking Annie, "Why didn't you kill me that time?") And did she make moves suggesting she was the titan? Yes. (She made to bite her finger. That was precisely when they all tackled her.) So why the hell did they tackle her? Why didn't they amputate her, grotesque as that is?

I really don't understand why Annie waited until that moment to betray them. Did she plan to betray them all along? If so, why didn't she do it way sooner? If not, was her decision to betray them based upon hurt feelings? Or was that just her being sarcastic? Very confusing.

Why would Annie have turned into a titan rather than simply going along with them into the underground? Sure, I realize that she was loyal to the Royal Guard or whatever, but like, wouldn't she have been given orders to never, ever, ever transform into a titan from within the innermost wall? Those people led such insulated lives that it was easy for the court to control them. They'd never feared for their lives one day in their lives. Now you spring a 30-foot titan on them. Don't you think you're giving your political enemies some ammo to use against you? Wouldn't it have been smarter to order Annie to never use her powers inside the walls? Whatever.

Dumb series is dumb, but I still don't think we've reached the part that made Loki and Deoxys and the others go "WTF, this is the worst manga ever." Probably won't see it this season either, if I had to guess. Which means that I'll see you guys next week for Episode 24. ^^; *sigh*

Who said the MPs had any idea Annie was a Titan? Is Annie working independently? Taking orders from someone?

MAYBE THIS COUNTRY IS REALLY RUN BY THE TITANS!

Yeah, that's what I associate dumb conspiracy theory fluff with nowadays.

Episode 24 did.

Episode 24:

Spoiler: show
This series is such a ridiculous, ridiculous tease. I've seen syrup bleed down a tree trunk faster than this plot moves. By the end of the episode, all that really has happened in terms of truly-moving-the-plot-forward-plot is:
  1. Eren transforms into a titan and confronts Annie
  2. Elwin confronts the lower ranks of the royal guard as he tries to recruit any able-bodied soldiers to help out with Annie's capture
And that's about it. Sure, a lot of other minor stuff happens -- some minor character development for Jean, a little bit of spotlight for Hanji (the crazy-eyed scientist Legionnaire), acknowledging that Levi sprained his ankle in the forest fight -- but as far as actual plot progression goes, you're not going to find anything more than what I listed above. Take where we were last week, tack on my two bullet points, and you're now caught up to the end of this week's episode. Sad. ^^;

That stated, the episode was enjoyable as far as second-to-last-of-the-season episodes go. It was jam-packed with action so if action's why you signed up for this show in the first place then you probably weren't too disappointed with this week's offerings. It had a lot of nice animation (for this series, anyway) whenever Legionnaires tended to try and fight or hinder Annie. Some great screencap-worthy faces out of Mikasa and others. So no, it wasn't too terrible.

I guess that means that it's down to next week's episode to determine whether this season will see us reaching the table flip point for Loki and Deoxys or not. Not their quit point, mind you -- I think Loki's already established here that we reached that point a while back, with the whole forest ordeal -- but their table flip point. The point where they were like "This franchise is beyond redemption. " Will we get to see it next week? Won't we? Guess we'll just have to tune in and find out. ^^;

Actually...it didn't.

Spoiler: show
The Survey Corps figured it out, yes - but the Military Police was completely out of the loop. Hell, the Military Police leader even pointed a gun at Elwin! Not to mention the confusion everyone except the Survey Corps and the citizens co-oping with them landed in as soon as a Titan appeared right downtown! Military Police was too busy gaping and accusing Elwin of treason to be of any use. Not something they'd have been doing if they'd known from the beginning that Annie was a Titan.

Unless the subtitles stated something different and it was lost there, but this is how I saw it.

Thought you meant "main players" by MPs. Never heard anyone refer to the royal guard as the "military police" or "MPs" before. In that case though, your original retort is even more dumb. Because I was clearly talking about Elwin's Legionnaires lying in wait, not the royal guard or "MPs" or whatever you want to call them the people who made the Titan, which are most likely the "MPs" brass. (Edited b/c confused about which part you quoted.) Regardless, I never claimed that the minions of the royal guard knew.

I just got tired of writing Military Police over and over. And I thought you meant their organization in general, not for example top brass or a specific group of individuals. I got the idea from your wording that every single member of the Military Police knew what was up. Sorry, my bad. Again. That's it for today's episode of "Talon and Kaisa Argue Over Stuff", join us again next week! :P

I have never heard anyone use MP as "Main Players" when discussing a military organization which has Military Police.

The people I'm watching with use an obscure term for military police. Another sub I'd checked out used royal guard. I assumed you were all just calling them royal guard. That and -- frankly -- I don't think "military police" when I see the word "MP" or "MPs". I immediately instead think of British Parliament and their MPs.

There's a specific term for military police in Japanese, but I'm not sure what it is. I'd have to look into MLA to get the specifics. I'm 100% sure it means military police because Takeru calls guys with with "MP" brazened on their helmets "military police".

So I was bored on tumblr one day. There's this sort of meme going around and it's like 'swiggity swagger (fill in the rest here)'. So I said 'Swiggity swager und wir sind die jaeger' and suddenly this thing starts circulating around tumblr like crazy. Next thing I know, this shows up on my tumblr front page:

Pretty off topic, I know, but I didn't know where else to post it where people would understand. The guy asked me for permission to make it a shirt severals days ago, I didn't actually think he'd go through with it OR that it would get this popular... my mind is just fried right now

Would Rule 34 cover this?

Basically, if you can think of it, someone will in all likelihood like it. Then it spreads among people who think so too, and...tada?

Am I too young or too old when I'm not surprised by this stuff anymore?

Episode 25: watched with CR this week because AK2 was excited to discuss it two minutes from now. It ... was what you'd expect a season-but-not-series finale to be. Not really sure that we saw what made Loki and Deo flip their tables. Surely it wasn't {spoiler box}, was it? I had no problem with that myself.

Spoiler: show
chrysalis Annie

Was it the thing shown at the end of the credits? That was dumb ... but far too vague to make any definite sense out of.

Actually, I just skipped around on a streamed raw version. Seems like the anime cut out a PLOT TWIST most likely because they didn't know if the show would be renewed for another season. In fact, it looks like they changed a lot.

EDIT: Okay, just now saw the post credits thing. Yes its that. (And what immediately followed this)
