"Ah!" Diana Macks exclaimed as the forceful Max Shockwave blew throughout the area. "At this moment, Dragapult has unleashed a shockwave unlike any I've experienced in my career!" she stated into her microphone. "Far more intense than the sort of shockwave you get from your average Dynamaxed, or even Gigantamaxed, wild Pokémon! Studies have shown that such a shockwave not only resets everything the normal variety does and then some, but the lingering effects ensure that such effects cannot be immediately reapplied! The gathered Trainers are going to have to rely on brute strength this time around..."

"Gah, that was forceful!" Keith grunted, he and his family having braced themselves against Dragapult's Max Shockwave.

"Indeed," Willa concurred. "Moreso than usual, I would say," she added.

"Yeah, I was reading up on these kinds of raids," Maribel spoke up. "Apparently the shockwaves the bosses can use not only clear out just about any kind of effect there can be in the battle, but also prevents those kinds of effects from being applied immediately after."

"Hm, so it's gonna be all about brute strength," Keith murmured. Then, he grinned. "Well, then, we sure Dynamaxed the right Pokémon for that!" he declared. "Ain't that right, Scorpius?"

"DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!" thundered Scorpius in response, the Dynamaxed Drapion grinning eagerly, ready for action.

And the Masterses weren't gonna keep him waiting for much longer. It only took a few moments of conferring with each other before the family called out the command as one; "USE! MAX!! DARKNEEEEEEEEEEESS!!!"

The raiders and their Pokemon continued to chip away at the Dragapult’s health, causing it to summon another layer of shields. In retaliation, the pair of gigantic Dreepy swooped through the air, raining fire down upon the Pokemon before the Dragapult unleashed another draconic blast.

Tremendous damage was dealt as the attacks poured in against Dragapult, with Scorpius's Max Darkness serving as the star of the show. With the help of the Eevee's Helping Hand, the Dynamaxed Drapion landed a huge blow. Before long, Dragapult was brought to the point of erecting another shield, though as this came at the tail end of their latest onslaught, only one attack actually struck said shield before Dragapult fought back. And this time, it seemed to heavily favor Fire attacks, its Fire Blast even grazing Scorpius. But when all was said and done, nobody had fainted.

"You and Scorpius are doing really well, Dad," smiled Maribel.

"Well, we're not out of the woods just yet, sweetie, but thanks," Keith replied. "We still gotta break down this last shield, after all."

"After which there will be just about the entire other half of Dragapult's hit points to contend with, and Scorpius won't be Dynamaxed for that," added Willa, eyeing Dragapult intently. "A lot can happen."

"Also true, my love," Keith nodded. "But for right now, I think there's reason to have hope," he added with a grin. "Long as we don't get complacent or sloppy, y'know?"

Willa nodded. "I would say so," she conceded.

"So we gotta help take care of that shield, right?" Maribel asked.

Keith nodded. "I think that's the best call," he stated.

Scorpius clicked his claws eagerly, making thunderous sounds with them each time, as he waited for his next order. But he didn't have long to wait- Keith, Willa, and Maribel very quickly called out as one; "USE! MAX!! STEELSPIIIIIIIIIIIIKE!!!"

The raiders knocked all but one of the shields away, but Dragapult remained undeterred as it retaliated with its own barrage that weakened the fighting spirit of the opposing Pokemon.

As expected, Scorpius's Max Steelspike ripped through more of the shield than any of his regular attacks would have done. When all was said and done, the Dragapult's shield remained intact, but very clearly only just barely. "One more attack should do it!" Keith grinned as his Drapion shrunk back down to normal size.

"Yeah," nodded Maribel. "But it'd be a waste if Scorpius finished it, right?" she added. "He's so powerful, he should be attacking Dragapult directly."

"I'm inclined to agree," nodded Willa. "Prior experience with these raids indicates that in situations such as these, the one with the least powerful capabilities should attack to finish off the shield."

"Indeed, dear, but who would that even be? We're all pretty powerful here..." Keith murmured, looking around, though soon, his eyes found the Eevee. Now, Keith was never one to underestimate an Eevee, but even so, he had the feeling that this one was likely their best bet for ripping down the shield. So everyone watched as the Eevee's Trainer was the first to speak up, and called out a command for the mighty and powerful... Soft-Boiled attack. Nobody said a word as Eevee healed itself, restored its own hit points, and didn't do a thing to the shield.

"...well, that's important, too," Maribel said fairly, breaking the stunned silence.

"I... suppose that's true," conceded Willa.

"Might not have been what I was expecting to see, but yeah- not exactly a bad move to make, all things considered," Keith nodded. And then, the Bisharp delivered a Night Slash that shattered the shield into shimmering shards. And then came a sight that got Keith grinning real Gengar-like- Louise's Fake Tears. Having made plentiful use of his Alolan Muk's Acid Spray in raid battles past, Keith knew good and well the value of a nice Special Defense drop, and that was just what Fake Tears would do to the Dragapult. "Now's our chance, Scorpius!" he called out at once. "Dark Pulse, go!!"

"DooooRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!" bellowed Scorpius, letting loose the powerful special attack with great force.

The raiders take down the last of the boss' shields and begin hammering away at Dragapult's remaining health. Just as it appears all is going well, a massive tidal wave washes over the area, the raw force of the wave washing away some of the challengers as Scrafty, Bisharp, Impidimp, and their trainers disappear from sight. Luckily, the remaining raiders are not left without hope, as the knock of the wave also massively lowers the health of the boss. Dragapult isn't about to take this sort of thing lying down, though, and looses a Max Geyser into Sableye, knocking out the Ghost on impact and causing a torrential downpour to start. This is quickly capitalized on by a Surf wave, lowering the health of all remaining raiders heavily. Finally, the boss unleashes its Outrage, striking down Tyranitar for now and bringing Eevee uncomfortably low as well.

For a moment, all was looking great, as the gathered Pokémon hammered away at Dragapult. Most everyone else did as Keith did, capitalizing on that timely Fake Tears with a powerful special attack, and even though not everyone had done this, it was clear that the group's efforts were not in vain, for Dragapult was weakening very noticeably. And then, the tides turned in several senses of the term, the most literal and pressing of which was the massive tidal wave suddenly about to crash down on them all! Keith grabbed his wife and daughter and held them both close to him as they all dove behind a large rock, and not a moment too soon. The crash was turbulent, unsettling, and it felt like it came basically out of nowhere, threatening to wash away all in its path, though the Masterses were determined to not let it.

Alas, as the initial insanity passed, it was all too clear that the damage was done. Several of the Trainers along with their Pokémon were nowhere to be seen. Keith's first initial thought was that the Gym Leader was sure to look into this as soon as possible. His second thought was the hard-hitting realization that one of the missing people was the Gym Leader.

Dragapult had taken damage from this, though thankfully, its remaining opponents didn't seem to be harmed. Keith was relieved to see Scorpius still standing defiantly before the Dragapult, clicking his claws eagerly as though nothing had happened.

"...That was unpleasant," Willa murmured.

"I know," Keith nodded. "Are you both OK?"

"I am," Willa nodded, allowing herself a small smile in appreciation of her husband's concern.

"I'm OK, Dad," Maribel confirmed. "You?"

Keith smiled. "I'm OK, sweetie," he replied. "Now... first things first, I think we should finish this up, don't you?"

"It does seem prudent," conceded Willa. "I get the feeling I am not the only one concerned for the missing Trainers, but I hardly think Dragapult would let us postpone this battle for the search and rescue."

"My thoughts exactly," Keith nodded gravely. "Fortunately, from the looks of Dragapult, this shouldn't take much longer." Things were looking a little dicey after Dragapult attacked, having knocked out the Tyranitar and the Sableye all at once- seemingly inspired by the tidal wave, it had gone for Max Geyser, making it rain just in time to power up an already forceful Surf, and it wrapped the whole thing up with a vicious Outrage. Scorpius had taken some of the Surf, but was otherwise unharmed by all of this. "Let's wrap this up, Scorpius!" Keith called out. "One more Dark Pulse!!"
