Hydreigon Typhon's Depths Raid Battle 4: VS Hydreigon

Dynamax Boss Hydreigon
★★★★
Health Gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: N/A

Raid Challengers:
  • Connor (Ledyba): 300 HP
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Alakazam): 300 HP
  • Lil’Twick (Cutiefly): 300 HP
  • Missingno. Master (Electrode): 300 HP
  • myahoo (Chinchou): 300 HP
  • Raves (Ralts): 300 HP
  • TheKnightsFury (Greninja): 500 HP
  • Zorchic (Lucario): 300 HP

The trainers arrived and quickly sent out their Pokemon, not a moment too soon. The giant three heads craned out of the water, staring down at the trainers with piercing red eyes. The dark clouds above continued to roll in and Dynamax energy surged from the Power Spot into Sweeney’s Dynamax Band.

Dynamax Initiative: Connor, Ledyba
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • If a trainer’s Pokemon is rendered unconscious, they may choose to cheer on their allies; opting to either remove one shield from the raid boss or healing one ally’s Pokemon by 50% of their max health.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Friday, April 10th to place your order.

Eddie Starmie was not feeling the most confident as he looked up at the monstrously oversized Hydreigon. The hand holding the Poké Ball shook slightly. But the aspiring cryptopokologist took a deep breath to steady himself, and threw the ball. "All right, Gigawatt! Let's go!" he declared as the ball split open to reveal what at first glance looked like a much larger Poké Ball.

Upon materializing, Gigawatt rolled forward a few feet. "ELECTRODE," it droned, sounding as ready as an Electrode could sound. Unlike his Trainer, Gigawatt had a wide, confident grin, a grin he couldn't possibly have shown this time the previous day, considering Voltorb lacked a mouth. Gigawatt could get used to this.

Eddie's mind raced. Gigawatt only had one weakness, so that would be helpful here. He knew, of course, that Hydreigon had access to Ground attacks, and most unfortunately, Gigawatt hadn't yet learned Magnet Rise. But right now, he had a plan to help defend the others from Hydreigon's attacks. En route to this Gym (Keith Masters was kind enough to offer a quick ride over aboard the Banette's Revenge), Eddie had discussed ideas with his faithful starter, this being among them, and it seemed like the one truly sensible way to kick things off, especially considering Eddie didn't feel any Dynamax Energy flowing into the Dynamax Band he wore this time. "Let's do it, Gigawatt!" Eddie called. "Start with Light Screen!"

"TROOOOOOOODE," droned the Electrode, generating a wall of light that would shield all present from Hydreigon's special attacks.

OOC: Gigawatt used Light Screen (0 BP).

Lucario

Jake Celeste groaned. Why did this Gym have to be on an island or atoll or something? The Skarmorix's fuel was precious, and that was what Jake had to take to the Typhon's Depths Gym—the silver helicopter. The autopilot directed the vehicle back to his Secret Base for now; it'd return for Jake after the raid. Location complaints aside, the Trainer looked at the monstrous boss at the source of the storm. He knew the Hydreigon species well—after all, it was one of the powerful pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

Once he was on stable ground, Jake tossed a Luxury Ball in the air. "Lucario, you ready?"

The Aura Pokémon landed in front of Jake with a loud grunt. Another raid, eh? he spoke through telepathy.

"That's right," Jake nodded. "You shouldn't have any trouble with this Dragon-type, after battling that Gigantamax Duraludon. Hm, not as many Fairy-types as I thought."

Fairy? Lucario asked.

"Yeah," replied Jake. "A Dark and Dragon-type like Hydreigon is extremely weak to Fairy-type moves. Considering the Fairy-type wasn't even discovered yet when Hydreigon was discovered, moves of the type could be even more of a force to reckon with."

Easy for you to say, Lucario pointed out. I don't know any Fairy-type moves.

"Yeah, well, there's nothing we can do about that now," Jake said dismissively. "Let's just get moving, shall we? Use Aura Sphere on the Dynamaxed Hydreigon!"

Heh, yeah! Lucario grinned, preparing the attack. A blue ball of energy formed between his hands, and he brought back his hands before thrusting them forward, releasing the Aura Sphere at the Raid Boss. It exploded against the Hydreigon just as a Signal Beam did.

(OOC: We'll use Aura Sphere (80 BP).)

Sweeney was apprehensive. He had begun to get somewhat accustomed to the sheer size of these colossal Pokemon, but no matter how many times he saw them, he would never find himself confident in the engagement. Looking around, it seemed that many of his fellow trainers shared that very same apprehension - but notably lacking the sentiment was Dizzy.

It could be because the Ledyba was always sure of herself in a fight. It could have been a front. Most likely, it was because hovering at Sweeney's right shoulder was Izzy, and no matter how hard the times got, Izzy was always there for her. Warming up, the Bug type began to shadowbox, throwing a few swift jabs as she gently bobbed through the air before turning to look at her friends, a wide grin on her face. The feeling was infectious, and Sweeney found himself calmed despite the looming terror. Izzy, unimpressed, simply decided to land atop Sweeney's helmet, enjoying the vantage point. As the Hydreigon roared, indicating that things were to get underway, Dizzy turns back towards her quarry, chirping merrily her readiness.

Floating beside Sweeney, Sphie pulses with a fine blue aura, radiating Psychic energies and relaying orders to her companion.

"Let's start this nice and easy. Match that guys Light Screen with a Reflect of your own."

Buzzing in the affirmative, Dizzy began to channel Psychic powers of her own, hurriedly melding the pliable resource in order to create a sturdy barrier, the tempered bulwark adept at nullifying physical damage.

OOC: Dizzy used Reflect (0 BP).

Dynamax Boss Hydreigon
★★★★
Health Gauge: 89%
Shields Up: 0
Status: [Atk -1, Sp.Atk +1, Paralyzed]

Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Work Up (0 BP)

Attack 2: Fire Spin (35 BP)
TKF, Greninja: 468 HP
Attack 3: Max Darkness (130 BP)
Raves, Ralts: 124 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Connor (Ledyba): 300 HP
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Alakazam): 300 HP [Sp.Def -1]
  • Lil’Twick (Cutiefly): 300 HP [Sp.Def -1]
  • Missingno. Master (Electrode): 300 HP
  • myahoo (Chinchou): 300 HP
  • Raves (Ralts): 124 HP [Sp.Def -1]
  • TheKnightsFury (Greninja): 405 HP [Fire Spin, Fighting Type]
  • Zorchic (Lucario): 300 HP [Sp.Def -1]

With the daunting task of taking down the three headed dragon before them, the trainers and their Pokemon immediately get into defensive formation. Chinchou fires off a Zap Cannon that left the Hydreigon numb and tingling. Meanwhile, the Pokemon created both Light Screens and Reflect barriers to shield themselves from attacks while Ralts tried its best to Charm Hydreigon into lowering its guard. Annoyed by all of these pests, the hydra began to Work itself Up into a frenzy before trapping Graninja in a ring of fire that circled its way around the protective mat. It finished off the round by blasting Ralts with a fear-inducing Max Darkness.

Dynamax Initiative: Missingno. Master, Electrode

Lucario

"Well, this is going to be interesting," Jake stated. The raiders were going for a more defensive, support-based battle style this time around. The Electrode set up Light Screen, the Chinchou paralyzed with Zap Cannon, the Ralts used Charm...you'd think that'd be enough, right? Apparently not, as the Ledyba followed with Reflect and Greninja set up a final, damage-preventing Mat Block. Jake was sure nothing would get past the defenses at this point.

He was wrong.

The Raid Boss surrounded itself in a red aura, powering up its attacking stats with a Work Up, before using a Fire Spin on Greninja that just ignored the mat like it was nothing! What kind of power did these Dynamax Pokémon have anyway? To add to that, the Hydreigon let loose a powerful Dark-type Max Move, unleashing all hell, it seemed, on the seemingly feeble Ralts. Jake and Lucario winced empathetically.

"Now that was unfair!" Jake declared defiantly. "Lucario, let's really get things going now! Use Aura Sphere once again, and really make it hurt!"

Lucario nodded, only happy to oblige. The Aura Pokémon did not take dirty tactics well. A trick like this must be punished! Acting on adrenaline, he formed a sphere of energy, as he always did, and hurled it with all his might at the three-headed beast. He realized he should have gone for a Nasty Plot earlier... Oh well. Too late to change things now.

Jake and Lucario watched around them as everyone was now launching attacks. With the groundwork done, it was time to begin hammering away at the Dynamax Boss Hydreigon, with the screens serving as a safety net of some sort and helping to soften any blows the raiding Pokémon took.

(OOC: Lucario goes for Aura Sphere (80 BP); we haven't got many options.)

The opening exchanges had been relatively kind to the raiders, none more so than Dizzy. The small Ledyba was getting into the swing of things now, the buzzing emanating from her wings reaching a frenetic pitch. A wide grin plastered on her face, the Bug type was itching to begin her offensive. Seeing this, Izzy sighed. He had seen this song and dance before - events would start going well and it would immediately rush to Dizzy's head, clouding her judgement and leaving her ripe for making mistakes. Still, he had to admit that this would be a better time than any to indulge his partner's more destructive tendencies, and so he began to cheer; not terribly enthusiastically, but enough to let Dizzy know he had her back.

Considering the options Sweeney couldn't help but get swept up in the tempo of his Pokemon somewhat. The task ahead was still intimidating, there could be no doubt, and early successes were always rife before a fall. Despite this, the bartender reasoned that given their advantage in numbers, a little recklessness could be indulged. Nodding towards Dizzy, Sweeney decides to allow the Ledyba to play it by ear, and she chirps merrily in response, glad of her freedom. Pausing for a moment, the ladybug mulls over her selection, before a menacing grin spreads across her face. Having made her decision, Dizzy draws one of her fists back, channelling a fine cyan aura around the curled appendage. A distinct chill rises from the flickering coating, tiny shards of ice gradually forming amidst the pale energies.

OoC: Dizzy used Ice Punch (75 BP).

The Mat Block couldn't help but make Eddie smile. Of course, he didn't have any experience with Pokémon that could use the move, but he'd heard of it well enough- a technique only effective as the user's first move since being sent out, but one that shielded the user's entire side from attack- The best of Wide Guard and Protect combined into one, with the drawback of First Impression. Not the worst trade-off in the world.

It was, therefore, to Eddie's great surprise when Hydreigon's Fire Spin ignored the defensive technique altogether! "Now wait just a minute, how did that happen?!" he exclaimed in surprise as the very Greninja who had shielded them wound up trapped in a swirling vortex of flames. "Surely it wasn't as simple as waiting out the Mat Block with Work Up. It can't be that simple..." he murmured. But just then, the sudden arrival of Dynamax Energy in Eddie's Dynamax Band derailed that train of thought. "Wait, but... so... so in situations like these, Dynamax Energy can flow from one person to another until it's actually put to use? Fascinating. Truly fascinating," Eddie breathed.

"TRODE?" Gigawatt inquired, the Electrode not daring to take its eyes off the humongous Hydreigon before it.

Eddie considered this. Max Flutterby would surely hit very hard, and was definitely super effective... but he looked around at his allies. The Cutiefly... the Ralts... even the Greninja, if that was by some chance evolved from the Frogadier Keith had mentioned seeing in the Sharpedo raid... Fairy-types. Well, a potential Fairy-type in the case of the Greninja, and even then, that's if it had a Fairy move. Fairy was the downfall of any Hydreigon, and the Fairy-type Max Move was surely the better option. Not only that, Eddie knew that said Max Move could also set up Misty Terrain, a field enshrouded in mystical fog that prevented status conditions, and, more to the point, cut the damage from Dragon moves. That could only be good for all involved.

Eddie shook his head. "Not this time, Gigawatt," he stated, adjusting his glasses. "There are better candidates for Dynamaxing, and now that we know they can get their chance, they should. We'll simply stick with the original plan! Use Signal Beam!" he commanded.

"ELECTROOOOOODE," droned Gigawatt, preparing to launch the Bug-type move.

OOC: Gigawatt used Signal Beam (75 BP).

Dynamax Boss Hydreigon
★★★★
Health Gauge: 74%
Shields Up: 4
Status: [Atk -1, Sp.Atk +1, Paralyzed, Confused]
Trainers: [Reflect 3 Turns Left, Light Screen 3 Turns Left]

Trainer Recovery Summary:
Raves, Ralts: Draining Kiss
Raves, Ralts: 125 HP
Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Snarl (55 BP)
Lil’Twick, Cutiefly: 238 HP
MM, Electrode: 300 HP [Soundproof]
myahoo, Chinchou: 225 HP
Raves, Ralts: 42 HP
Attack 2: Paralyzed

Attack 3: Paralyzed

Raid Challengers:
  • Connor (Ledyba): 300 HP
  • CrazyCreeperKid (Alakazam): 300 HP [Sp.Def -1]
  • Lil’Twick (Cutiefly): 238 HP [Sp.Atk -1, Sp.Def -1]
  • Missingno. Master (Electrode): 300 HP
  • myahoo (Chinchou): 225 HP [Sp.Atk -1]
  • Raves (Ralts): 42 HP [Sp.Atk -1, Sp.Def -1]
  • TheKnightsFury (Greninja): 342 HP [Fire Spin, Fighting Type]
  • Zorchic (Lucario): 300 HP [Sp.Def -1]

Looking to add insult before injury, Greninja staggers the Hydreigon with a dizzying Dynamic Punch before the rest of the Pokemon pile on their attacks. Hydreigon is shelled by the assault and promptly creates a series of barriers to protect itself, to which the Pokemon chip away half of. Ready to go on the assault, the center head of Hydreigon lets out a nasty Snarl that unnerves several of the Pokemon. However, when it’s time for the other two heads to chime in, nothing happens as they were both locked up with Paralysis. A bit of a lucky break for the trainers and their Pokemon.

Dynamax Initiative: Lil’Twick, Cutiefly
  • You have until Wednesday, April 15th to place your order.

The Hydreigon wasn't taking things too well, angrily erecting a potent barrier, just as the Appletun had done the previous month. Any remaining attacks simply went towards weakening the structural integrity of said shield. And though it did indeed weaken, it did not let any of the attacks actually squeak through. They were gonna have to hammer away at the entire thing before they could get back to hammering away at Hydreigon. And the dreadful Dynamaxed Dark/Dragon didn't intend on making it easy on them as it let loose with a potent Snarl that washed over several of the present Pokémon, causing them to shudder as their Special Attack took a hit. Well, most of them, anyway.

Gigawatt merely grinned confidently, paying no heed to the sinister soundwave that washed over its Soundproof body, the Electrode losing neither hit points nor Special Attack power. "Yes!" Eddie cheered. And to make matters even better, Snarl was the only thing Hydreigon even did this time around. It tried to follow it up with other moves, sure, but both times it merely succumbed to the paralysis that that Chinchou's Zap Cannon had inflicted earlier.

"All right," Eddie murmured, sizing up the situation. He knew a bit about these shields at this point- no matter how powerful a move you used against it, it would always wear it down the same amount, unless you went at it with a Max Move or a one-hit KO move such as Horn Drill or Sheer Cold, and in that case, that was assuming it even landed. As far as regular moves, however, it didn't matter if you went at it with Double Slap or Dazzling Gleam- it'd all end up the same. And to that end, Eddie reasoned, it wasn't exactly necessary that they go for another Signal Beam at this moment, now was it? And unlike Max Moves, regular moves, he knew, very well did have their side effects when they hit a shield. Or could, at least. But the one he had in mind had a very strong likelihood of having said side effect, so that was good enough for him. "Now, Gigawatt, we play this smart," he stated. "There's no sense in going all-out, not against a barrier such as this, so it's perhaps our best opportunity for this move."

"ELECTRODE," droned Gigawatt. It had a feeling it knew what Eddie was getting at, and was ready to act on the order it knew was coming.

"Then let's do this!" declared Eddie. "Charge Beam, let's go!"

OOC: Gigawatt used Charge Beam (50 BP).

Sweeney knew it was coming. He didn't quite know when, but it was an eventuality rather than a possibility. As if on cue to his musings, the ghastly beast before them issued a staggering roar, the shock waves from the cacophony whipping up a frenzied gust of wind. As the storm passed, a shimmering barrier of light stood before Hydreigon, daring the raiders to try and breach it's fortifications. Shortly thereafter, the Dragon unleashed a second snarling uproar, thickened black streaks slamming headlong into numerous Pokemon - but, mercifully, not Dizzy.

Seeing this, Dizzy celebrates. Clearly their foe was scared of her, why else would it not be targeting her? The thought of retaliation cowed the giant, there was no other explanation. In a show of force, the Ledyba once again resumes her shadowboxing routine, pointedly glaring at Hydreigon with every practised swing. Izzy, less enthused, simply sighs at the display. Sophie seems similarly annoyed at this, but before she can broadcast as much to Dizzy, Sweeney raises a hand. Better to let Dizzy remain confident than shoot her down. There was no telling when things would go south, after all. It was an almost grim certainty that they would.

Her spirits having been further raised, Dizzy decides that the best course of action was consistency. Drawing an arm back, she channels a fine cyan aura over the clenched fist, preparing to unleash yet another chilling blow. Issuing a defiant cry, the ladybug charges into the fray, determined to surmount the toughened screen which silently mocked their attempts to shatter it.

OoC: Dizzy used Ice Punch (75BP).
