Well, I sure am glad then that I held off on the sequel post!
Sorry about that, Kuno.

Is Kuno suggesting the revival of Forum 15? That really takes me back. I remember being an innocent greenhorn when BPK beckoned to me from a dark UPN alley and said "Hey kid, did you know Jessie and James hentai is way cooler than dirtbikes?" He then reached into his trenchcoat and pulled out a bundle of papers that changed my life forever...
I can't imagine using Forum 15 these days though. Well, the camera would often flash onto a single shot of Akira's eye, randomly during a discussion. This is one of Akiyuki Shinbo's artistic ticks, but it was really annoying. I should clarify that Vampire Bund was entertaining for its action, characters and plot. Its fanservice was way out of control, enough that FUNimation actually had to stick a warning label on its online subs to avoid any messy legal trouble. But it was a fun show, and as a vampire buff you might consider watching it on CR or something. It's a serious SHAFT show, less irreverent than stuff like Zetsubo Sensei, but a bit more silly than something like Madoka. Quote:

@Talon - it's funny that the character you're bashing on is "Astarotte". There's a player on BVS who is frequently at odds with me called "Astaroth", a name I believe to be based on "Astarotte". I don't like either character!

アスタロト = Asutaroto = Astaroth = not a nice guy アスタロット = Asutarotto = Astaroth = the sometimes adorable other times sexy blue-skinned demoness. Also depicted on occasion as wife to Spider-Man. (Ask 2chan. ) アスタロッテ = Asutarotte = Astarotte = the Lotte's Toy Astaroth who spells her name "Astarotte" because, unlike ト or ット, there's no way ッテ 'tte' would become "-th" in going from Japanese to English. EDIT: the "-th" here is hard, i.e. it sounds like with tot, not like tooth. Just wanted you to know, ト typically fills in for finalizing hard t sounds. A different character, ス "su" fills in for -th sounds, e.g. スミス Sumisu "Smith." The topmost one is how the Japanese formally spell the name of the demonic being known as Astaroth. The middle one is specifically how Shinran Bansho Choco spelled the name for the female version on their trading cards. It's only one character off, with a small pause (ッ) between the 'ro' and 'to'. The final one is Square-Enix's name which clearly they were doing two things with: (1) capitalizing on the Shinra Bansho character's popularity (as revealed not just by the shared name but by the shared addition of the ッ pause), but at the same time (2) avoiding any lawsuit from Shinra Bansho by introducing a character change all their own: changing the ト 'to' to a テ 'te'. This way, they can tell Shinra Bansho "our name is as unique from yours as yours is from the dictionary spelling. So there. " While it's true that Shinra Bansho doesn't have a monopoly on the name "Astaroth," it is interesting that Squeenix's manga would not only keep the pause but would also keep the gender change: Astaroth (the blue-skinned girl)'s appeal on 2chan is huge and it's largely because she's a sometimes-cute sometimes-sexy female and most of her fans, go figure, are men. You lose them the moment you revert Astaroth to his original gender. So why not keep him a girl and avoid litigation by making one additional character change? *sigh* The More You Know™

Bit 2: Nursery Rhyme is an eroge I've not played. I got that HCG pack years and years ago. Never looked at it. (Dull, just not for me.) Probably should delete it, lol, though it served me well for the purposes of that post. Bit 3: Well, you sort of have to discuss it if you're going to be open and honest with people about what sort of person you are. But if you don't want to now, that's fine. We can't really carry the conversation farther than we already have anyway because of the other patrons who have complained to Kuno. Bit 4: As for Lotte, regardless of what she's commonly called, she's a succubus named Astarotte -- which is tongue-in-cheek, "what a coincidence! " similar in name and form to the 2chan demoness named Astaroth. She could have been a female dog named Astarotte and people still would have drawn the comparison because, let's face it, it's a damn uncommon name. But the fact that she's been cast as a succubus -- which has a lot more in common with Astaroth the sexy demoness than it does with Astarte the fertility goddess (female) or Astaroth the prince of Hell (male). It's just too much of a coincidence to really be a coincidence.

I just came accross a cartoon I saw when I was seven. You may have heard of it, it's called Samurai pizza cats. There are actually two versions, the original Japanese one, and the English one (which I watched).
I don't know what the Japanese one is about, but the English one was completely rewriten because they had some problems translating the script. So instead of translating they wrote a new script to match what they saw. The dialogue is filled with puns and good jokes (we can elect the evil dragon vice president so we never hear from him again) you don't get as a kid (very nice cartoon for adults to watch along). It also constantly remembers the audience that they're actually watching a cartoon (up in the sky is the most hideous creature our animators could draw). |

Nursery Rhyme isn't translated. I don't know much about it, but I did look up basic info on it since its opening was used in a bunch of parody videos a few years ago when Nico wasn't a copyright obsessed piece of garbage. Honestly, Nursery Rhyme looks really dull anyway.
If you wanna download it even though there isn't a translation for it, try googling "Nursery Rhyme hongfire." ____________________________________ For status, there's nil. I might watch Tagami Bachi as Doppel suggested, but right now, I'm enjoying watching Lilina burn things in Fire Emblem 6. |

WHERE HAVE I HEARD IT BEFORE? I think it was during a Nico Nico Douga medly, because my brain mentally filled in "Yatta!" following that. Wow, so it came from Nursery Rhyme, huh? EDIT: No, wait! There was a parody MAD featuring Geass that used a version of that song! I'm sure that was it. Where is that? The More You Know™ ... Making slow progress on Heartcatch PreCure for no good reason, I really like it, but can't maintain concentration. As BBB raved a while back, it is an excellent show, and appeals to me in a number of ways- 1. No fanservice. I've been watching a lot of anime recently that don't have it, but PreCure is COMPLETELY devoid of it, and that includes the fujoshi-appealing yaoi stuff. It's amazing to watch an anime with this kind of budget that completely ignores it. So good. 2. Ridiculous animation quality. The art style is good, but what shocks me is the animation keeps up with it. The only show I've seen recently like this are the Go Nagai stuff (Enma-kun and Shin Mazinger). 3. Vibrant, distinctive, recognizable characters. Tsubomi and Erika have good personalities and chemistry, so watching them interact is really fun. The villains are also entertaining, and I even remember their names - Sasorina, Kumojacky, Cobraja. 4. Continuity. The show introduces characters and keeps them, and their development, around. I'm about half-way through season 1. The plot hasn't kicked in yet, but the characters and action really hold things up. It's one of the most magnetic anime I've seen recently, no wonder Eiichiro Oda feels "threatened" by PreCure's popularity. Talon, if you're free sometime to day I'd like to talk to you on AIM. I've got something interesting to discuss.

Gintama':
Through Episode 009 of the new series (a.k.a. episode 210 overall). I've much loved the humor of the series so far, but I suppose they felt it was time for things to get sewious. So they have. But it's not all bad: it's pretty neat seeing some faces I recognize from the first two seasons mixed in with faces I've never seen before, all of whom are apparently major players in the plot. Also, the adorable voice behind Yayoi in Natsu no Arashi is behind the wheel for the samurai girl tagging along with Gintoki! So that's wonderful. She's a bit batty, but the Yayoi voice definitely goes a long way towards selling me on the character. AnoHana: Re-watched Episode 06 and finally watched Episode 07. Was good. This anime definitely will serve future generations better than it did us, I think, as it's totally geared towards being watched all in one go rather than only getting to watch one episode a week. 11 episodes isn't too bad: even at only two episodes a day, you'd get through that in less than one week. But that stated, it's been fun watching it with the gang and trying to figure things out ... though I wish AnoHana would feed us more stuff to debate and discuss than it typically does! XD Hanasaku Iroha: I still haven't watched either episodes 08 or 09. Should do that!

AND ON THAT NOTE ... Takutsuboya K-on! Trilogy: Shoplifting High School Girls Light Music Club, Reqiem 5 a Dream, and That is It This doujin trilogy is a very dark look at the K-on! girls after they graduate from high school, and go about their seperate ways. With most hentai, it's obvious that the story is not a high priority, as they're just looking for any lame excuse to get the girls stripped and dicked. With this series however, it can truly be said that story comes first, with porn scenes peppered throughout. Out of the former members of the Houkago Tea Time light music club, Yui is the only one who actually attains major success as a pop musician, but her autistic savant-like personality leaves her poorly equipped to handle fame, and she later succumbs to drug addiction. Her younger sister Ui has an obsessive attachment to her (if you want to see some twisted sister x sister incest, check this series out). The most tragic of the stories concern Mio and Azusa, who try to follow in Yui's footsteps. The author of these doujins himself was actually a failed mangaka, who turned to drawing hentai doujinshi. You can actually see the bitterness of never having made it as a mangaka show through in the story, as he draws several parallels between his own failure to get his work published, despite trying so hard (he actually was a finalist in several manga contests over the course of 10 years), and the girls' struggles to make it in the music industry. Mio doesn't want to end up like her tomboy friend Ritsu, who took a blue collar job as a courier. Mio asks her how she's supposed to afford a designer Louis Vuitton handbag with a salary like that? "The only thing I care about in a bag is for it to have a lot of space!" she replies. Attempting to climb the ladder in the music business, Mio starts sleeping with a 42 year old record exec. Azusa degrades herself by showing up in Akihabara dressed in a cat girl outfit, playing music and allowing perverts to take upskirt pictures. Now in her late 20s, Mio has gained a bit of weight from eating too much junk food, and can only watch Yui's music career from afar. In a desperate plea for attention, she records a video of herself playing a cover of one of Yui's songs (her original material never gets any attention) while naked, and uploads it to Nico Nico Douga. She logs on and eagerly awaits the comments ... In the end, Mio finally accepts the fact that she has no talent ... and gets a job at the courier company with her old friend Ritsu. The story ends with a screenshot of a Wikipedia entry: It's clever how he references the actual K-on! anime as an idealized biopic, making his doujins the real story. The anime somehow left out the part where they had to perform sexual favours for a store owner after being caught trying to steal a guitar! I've never actually seen K-on! by the way. I only have a Ritsu avatar because I found the Starcraft II parody amusing. By yet another coincidence I read K-on! doujins, lol.

I didn't even recognize the girl in your avatar as Ritsu. I still don't. And I've seen both seasons of the K-ON! anime.
That story seems pretty dark, although not nearly as dark as some I'm sure we've each read. (Like the one I read yesterday, wrote a summary note on for memory's sake, and promptly deleted from the computer. Oh dear lord ...) I suppose the Requiem for a Dream-inspired title should have been all I needed to figure this one out, but it's still pretty sad how things turned out for the girls. And wow, your insight on the author's private life bleeding into the pages of this comic really lends it some added power and darkness. I read some random pages online to get a feel for the story (not interested in getting it for the long haul), and it definitely makes sense why the author focuses in on Mio and has her experience some of the things he does. Though one certainly has to wonder: did the real author ever make it big? Kind of a shame if he hasn't. He can certainly draw imo. All he needs is to team up with somebody else if he's not able to think up good stories on his own. (Easier said than done, I suppose ...)

Nope, he never did get any of his original work published. However, he IS successful now with hentai doujins. This trilogy was actually his first major success. The parallel he makes of doujin makers/cover musicians fits perfectly; people who tried and failed with original ideas, can at least make a living out of working with other peoples' material that's already popular.
But who knows? Now that this guy finally put his name on the map, he can try again and get more consideration from publishers?

I remember some of that guy's titles. I won't talk to much about it because of the warning we got, but I think his name is TK or something. He did a Haruhi doujin where Kyon beat the shit out of Haruhi for mistreating Mikuru.
In other news, I decided to read Zero. |

That is a really sad and realistic-sounding story. Those comments sound exactly like what losers on the internet would say. Clever title too. Shame the author never made it big on his own either. Such a hard world.
...Although now hearing about the potential for hidden angst and darkness in the animé makes me much more interested in watching it. Fu fu fu. @BBB Really? It's the same guy? XD I'll confess I've browsed some Haruhi doujins on occasion ever since I read Bliss (I was desperate for anything ItsukixHaruhi, don't judge me!), so I know how infamous that one is. Ah hah hah, at first I was sympathetic, now I'm worried if the author himself has some issues. ^^; *cough* In other news... Dopple, I got all the endings in ML Extra and Unlimited, but my CG progress is still at 99%. I have the one of Tama with the sniper rifle, do you have any idea what else I could be missing? Also, do you recommend leaving Muv-Luv installed while I play Alternative anyway for easy reference? If so I'll need to clear some other space then.

"Zero" is a pretty ambiguous title. You wouldn't happen to mean Gambling Emperor Legend Zero would you?! If so, too cool. I'm going to read that myself eventually.

I just started Alternative. Forgive me while I giggle at the gratuitous Engrish.
"Come on post... No sign of bitters..." Edit- By the way, I forgot to mention this, but at the end of each girl's path in Unlimited, most of them were anxious about Takeru's feelings like Meiya in Extra. To reassure them and himself, Takeru made up his mind and confessed before the act, using the exact same dialogue. But for a few, it seemed like he just tagged on "I love you" as an afterthought. Not sure is this has any significance in terms of his relationships with these characters, or bearing on their fates in Alternative... Also, why does Chizuru still wear her glasses in the shower? -.- I'd really like to see her without them for once (and not just when she's on the ground after getting bitch-slapped). Especially during, uh, those kinds of moments... >>;

That Engrish is awesome.
"Fuck!! What the hell is this!?" "Bravo Leader! This is Command Post! DO YOU READ ME?" "Oh no...it's human!" "Human what?! Say again?! This is Command Post! BRAVO LEADER! SURVIVORS?! COME IN?" Spoiler: show I don't think that scene would have quite the impact if it wasn't delivered like that.

Lots of successful groups started out doing doujins/porn. CLAMP, the Hellsing guy, etc.
In unrelated news, I started watching Tenchi Muyo again a few days back and I was surprised how much it affected me. Like the opening started playing (I hadn't heard it in at least six years) and suddenly I find myself with this big dorky grin on my face. I'm usually thoroughly stoic, even about things I enjoy, so to feel mindlessly happy over an opening was a really strange feeling. What shows make you super-nostalgic, Anime people? (If this turns back into discussion of which lolis are fappable, I will kill you all)

That's a hard one to answer. I had to fish for an answer and the first thing my fishing pole pulled up was this which, while it certainly takes me back to 1993 , is not an anime and is probably not what you were looking for.
I dunno. Most of my all-time favorite things I am (re-)exposed to often enough that there isn't time for "awww I wub you " feelings of acute superfandom to simmer and evolve into feelings of nostalgia. Like, I so much as hear either of these two songs and my day is instantly ten times brighter. It could be raining outside and I feel like I'm basking in sunshine. The series is just so dear to me and I so, so love these two songs (especially the OP, "Keikenchi Joushouchuu") that they are ... just magic. And I kinda think that's half the riddle to powerful nostalgia, but like I said earlier: the other half of the riddle to nostalgia is prolonged absence. And if you don't go a month or two without hearing the song or watching a scene from the show, etc, then you can't really describe it as "nostalgic," can you, when you see some cherished thing and it brings a smile to your face? So I mean ... Planetes I just rewatched, Chobits I haven't rewatched for several years but at the same time I know it so well that it's hard to get nostalgic about it, Haruhi I just saw via the movie not even six months ago, etc etc. You get nostalgic for Tenchi Muyo because (a) it's a high school exposure thing going way back (late '90s, early '00s) for you, (b) you loved it back in the day, and (c) you haven't seen it in forever (six years, you said). For me, the only things that could even possibly fit that bill would be ... * SuperBook -- okay, yeah, that would fit the bill , here's the specific bit I remember from like age 6 hahaha * Miyazaki films like Princess Mononoke -- ehhhhhhhhh no * Cowboy Bebop -- nooooo , not really Everything else, from Pokemon to Yu-Gi-Oh, I've re-watched the old school episodes within the last two calendar years. So replying to you today in 2011, I can't really say "Oh yeah man! So nostalgic when I hear the original Japanese Pokemon theme song!" since I heard it like 82 times in a row over the course of several months of watching Season 1 (eps 001-082) raw. ^^; Okay, add one more to the nostalgia bill with Power Rangers and SuperBook -- the English Pokemon OP 1. Full length is okay, but TV length + TV video is a must for the full nostalgia factor. Still cracks me up that my first anime ever was a Bible show. XD

For the nostalgia question, I started anime back when I was an adolescent tard who couldn't tell the difference between a good title and a bad one, so I only look at most of the shows I liked (other than Lupin III) in embarrassment. I mean, I really really loved Kanon when I watched it, but that was like 4 years ago, and I don't think that counts as nostalgia. Also, Doppel, you should get a load of Tsubomi's character theme. I typically don't care for Nana Mizuki's songs, since she usually sings in an intense deep voice, but she sounds downright lovely in that one. It's a shame Erika sounds like Yui from K-On in her character theme. |

*Muyo bashes Dopple's head in* x_x ... Monster Rancher is the only show that really churns up my nostalgia drive. I'm usually afraid to watch some of the shows I watched as a child for fear that I'll notice how terrible they actually are (looking at you, Homeward Bound!), as the show in my memories has forever been enshrined as immaculate. MR managed to not only bring back good memories, the current me didn't find it a bad show. Pokemon Indigo League is likewise like this. Haven't seen anything else "old" recently to compare though, I'm not the type of guy who likes rewatching shows often. For example, I much prefer going to a movie theatre to see a film once rather than buying the DVD and watching it in the comfort of my own home (like my Dad/sister) because I get maximum enjoyment from the first view, and so I'd like to make it a memorable first experience and just live off that memory.
