Just for fun
So. Let's say we wanted to create a little micro-meta where pokemon like Delibird and Corsola could actually have some fun. What would such a meta even look like?
Searching through the NU tier, I found a few 'mon who I think could have a place in such a tier. However, I'm subject to throwing favorites who might not be as crappy as I think they are onto the list. So, a little help, please? The more question marks by a 'mon's name, the less sure I am of their belonging in such a tier. Code:
Ivysaur Charmeleon Squirtle Butterfree Beedrill Pidgeot Sandshrew Nidorina Nidorino Clefairy Wigglytuff Gloom(Vileplume may arrive here) Venonat Diglett Meowth(debatable) Mankey Growlithe Poliwhirl Abra Weepingbell Tentacool Ponyta Slowpoke Magnemite Farfetch'd Dewgong Shellder Gastly(no Haunter, sorry) Onix Hypno Cubone Lickitung Koffing Rhyhorn Seadra Goldeen Staryu Magmar Ditto Eevee Flareon Porygon Omanyte Kabuto Dragonair Bayleef Quilava Croconaw Furret Ledian Ariados Chinchou Togetic Natu Flaffy Bellossom Marill Sudowoodo Jumpluff Sunflora Yanma Murkrow Misdreavus Unown Girafarig Pineco Dunsparce Snubbull Shuckle Sneasel Magcargo Swinub Corsola Octillery Delibird Houndour Stantler Pupitar Torchic Combusken (Non-speed-boost) Grovyle Marshtomp Mightyena Beautfly Dustox Lombre Nuzleaf Kirlia Shedinja Nosepass Delcatty Mawile Aron Meditite Minun Plusle Volbeat Vigoroth Illumise Exploud Swalot Wailmer Torkoal Grumpig Spinda Vibrava Swablu Seviper Lunatone Solrock Whiscash Baltoy Lileep Anorith Castform Banette Duskull Tropius Chmiecho Bagon Trapinch Glalie Sealeo Clamperl Luvdisc Grotle Monferno Prinplup Staravia Bibarel Kriketune Luxio Cranidos Shieldon Wormadam-P Wormadam-S Wormadam-T Mothim Vespiquen Pachirisu Cherrim Shellos Drifloon Purugly Bronzor Chatot Gabite(suspect) Riolu Skorupi Croagunk Carnivine Lumineon Mantyke Snover Glaceon Phione Servine Pignite Dewott Watchog Herdier Liepard Munna Unfeazant Woobat(Swoobat may be considered) Drilbur Timburr Golduck Seismitoad Swadloon Whirlipede Cottonee Basculin Krokorok Darumaka Maractus Dwebble Scraggy(suspect) Yamask Tirtouga Archen Trubbish Audino Zorua Gothorita(suspect with Shadow Tag) Solosis Swanna Vannilish Emolga Foongus Frillish Klink Eelektrik Elgyem Lampent Axew Shelmet Mienfoo Golett Pawniard Rufflet Vullaby Heatmor Zweilous Larvesta Karrablast Phanphy Quote:
Remember, don't think about these pokemon's preformances in other tiers- think about how they would fare in a teir where HustleDelibird is a legitimate threat.

Other people feel the same way as you do, Kin. PU is the NU of NU. Doesn't have an official ladder on Showdown yet, but you can challenge people to an unranked PU battle. Haven't played the tier myself, but from what I understand there are still a few Pokemon that aren't even used in PU... maybe go a tier beneath that?
By the way, PU doesn't stand for anything. It's named because all the Pokemon stink.

It's also on Showdown, not PO, so there's also that going against it.
Also, it's not about the Pokemon "sucking", it's about them not being used competitively and being under-appreciated overall. Also, possibly: Ariados Audino Butterfree (??) Dodrio (?) Flareon (??) Glaceon (??) Kricketune Ledian (?) Liepard Maractus Mawile Mightyena Parasect (?) Seadra (?) Shelgon (??) Swalot (?) Swanna Tropius (?) Unfezant (?) Unown Vigoroth Volbeat (?) Watchog Whirlipede Just throwing a few out there. Also, I think Banette may be a bit up there for this tier. Smeargle I think might be a bit too much as well, unless we ban SporePass. I'd like to see this become a tier where Stealth Rock doesn't dominate, really. I'd love to see a tier where Sand Rush Herdier is a legitimate threat and Seadra can really shine as a Physical wall. EDIT: Also, Pidgeot And is there any way we can make Item Clause standard here? There are so many options for items, especially now, and I don't think we want everyone running 2 Lefties, 2 Eviolite, and 2 Choice _____/Life Orb for their team.

Good point, Item Clause is useful for encouraging variety.
Good list, but I'm a little worried about ScarfGlaceon being a tad too powerful. Adding the others, though. |

Looking at it, I can see what some of the possible threats might be, and certain possible walls start to develop already.
First of all, Rain takes a huge hit here. Sun has Vulpix, Sand has Hippopotas, and Hail has Snover. I can already see sand sets making use of Herdier and Nosepass, and sun sets using Tropius and Charmeleon. Not that rain is entirely shafted. Swanna becomes a threat, for one, with Scald or Hydro Pump, and with Hurricane as its main STAB option, which would be quite reliable. Glaceon, Flareon, Tropius, Banette, Chatot, and Swanna all stand out as effective attackers (high Special Attack and good STAB coverage; high attack and usable SpA with good STAB coverage and Guts; Chlorophyll/Solar Power and Growth; Effective typing for switching into the many Normal types here and is a rare ghost in the atmosphere; Special Attack and speed actually usable here, Nasty Plot, STAB Hyper Voice, Heat Wave; Hurricane and Hydro Pump in the rain). Magmar and Charmeleon, too, stand out quite a bit, especially in the sun provided by Vulpix. This seems like a very defensively oriented pool, however, meaning that the real heroes are going to be the walls. Seadra is going to fit in pretty well, and I see Overcoat EvioVullaby being pretty usable here as well, not to mention Nosepass in sand with Eviolite. I can even see Marill being used as a Thick Fat Eviolite wall at times, even (although I fully expect it to be used predominantly as a sort-of sweeper). On the special side, Gothorita might make an impression. Who knows, Sealeo might be the next Stallrein. Skorupi and Whirlipede could be pretty good walls, too. In general, the wall usage will probably consist largely of NFE Pokemon, given the use of Eviolite.* *statements not made by a professional comp battler. Your results may vary. |

Added Swoobat and Bibarel.
Thoughts on this simplistic pair? Too broken? |

Will look through this. PU is I think anything with a 2.56% or less usage in NU, so, you might want to use that list for a reference.

Simple Calm Mind Swoobat? In a sun-heavy tier, with Heat Wave access?
EDIT: Yeah, but this isn't about usage statistics. It's about underrated Pokemon in an environment they can shine in. |

By this logic, Ivysaur, Weepingbell, and Nuzleaf should be out to.
I disagree.

Mr Mime? Lunatone? Solrock?
EDIT: Oh. Ivysaur. That's a scary thought. Forgot about weather, there. ...THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME. DELIBIRD REVENGES EVERY THREAT. DDD

I like Solrock and Lunatone. Both good BPers.
Mr. Mime can die.

Probably not on the former, maybe on the latter two.
Is Mr. Mime with Technician legal yet? |

I would not put Beeheyem(or however you spell that) on the list. It is basically going to be the Reuinclulus of the FF tier.
God fuck Gen V Psychics with their unspellable names.

Beeheyem would be a definate no.
They're like a special Banette with a movepool. |

Both Butterfree and Liepard look like huge threats.
Especially since Liepard does not need to run any Attack EVs at all to sweep.

Are you referring to Foul Play, or some prankster trick?

Foul Play.
Yeah, it can be gimmicky, but with Prankster, not to mention that Liepard is the fastest in the tier right now, it seems dangerous.

I was going to go "Don't we have a good amount of special attackers, though?".
Then I looked over the list and was like 'what happened to the special?' Guys, what are your thoughts on TailPass Volbeat? |

Seems dangerous, but Prankster Liepard.

*Reading over the data*
WAIT THEY GAVE LIEPARD U-TURN IN BW2?! Evolite Scraggy, Crogunk, Monferno and (to a lesser extent) Mankey- Liepard counters, or no? I'd think that the only way around her would be priority or hefty bulk, and those four seem to fit one of the two bills. |

Huh, that really narrows that list down to Shed Skin Scraggy...
What about Evolite Swadloon? And, to a lesser extent, Whirlipede, Larvesta and Dweble? |

I had Liepard pegged for more of an anti-lead, myself. Sucker Punch, Priority Taunt.
Also, unless Liepard is running Rock Smash for some strange reason, it looks like Pawniard is a pretty good check, too. |
