After a few rounds of back and forth, the Raid Boss starts to fight a lot more dirty. Before the raiders can even act, the Gigant glides across the grassy terrain, fully crushing the Sableye and leaving it knocked out. The Pokemon then returns to its position and seems to go dormant. The rest of the raiders, recovering from the shock, go on a full-on kill plan. If this thing wants to be a plant, it was time to waterlog it into a Water-type.

Yet, even that only makes a sizable dent due to the raw power of the party's Raichu. Instead, they can only stand in horror as they start to hear a... cracking noise. Looking towards the moon, they continue to hear the noise as the dark spot begins to... bloom.



The Pokemon then glows a bright red, before screeching. The raiders feel their minds pierced by aberrant nonsense. This was not some glitch. Not some Pokegod. This was not a remnant of Nibiru. This was something much, much worse. A very being banished to the far depths of reality.

"W-what is that thing...?" the gym leader mutters, finally breaking his silence.

"An outer god," a female scientist walks up, seeming completely innocent.

"And you are?" Leo questions.

"Professor Dogwood, a specialist in Eldritch Pokeology. I've been in employ here since the Lickilicky incident a few Hallow's Eves ago," she explains.

"The outer gods seem to have a strange interest in this land... and from the looks of it, that is the Martian Flower Vulthoom. Yet, how it managed to infiltrate our moon and use a wishing piece is beyond me."

"Do you think it used the chaos the Nibiru Incident created to creep closer?" the gym leader questions her.

"Perhaps. For now, it should be nothing more than an avatar, as its power is directly linked to that poor Venusaur's," she explains.

And then the ground shakes, and the Venusaur goes into a complete frenzy. A gigantic plant erupts beneath the Pokemon, completely crushing the Weedle before it retreats back into the ground. It then continues to attack, once again using its G-Max Vine Lash, fully raging onto the Galvantula. While the initial attack doesn't knock it out, the subsequent vines squash the electric tarantula. Two more KOs, and the boss is almost at full power.

The Grassy Glide was sudden and unexpected, allowing Venusaur to act before anyone else could, and knocking out the Sableye before it could even do anything. Aside from that, things seemed to go their way for the most part- between Soak and the subsequent assault of Grass and Electric moves, the Gigantamaxed Venusaur seemed to take massive damage. Relatively, anyway- the Raichu's Bolt Strike seemed to be doing the bulk of the damage. And then came a cracking noise coming from above. Eddie and ZZLZZ looked up to see the dark spot on the moon start to... bloom?

"Wh-what is that, Eddie?" murmured ZZLZZ.

"I don't know," Eddie whispered back. "I've never seen anything like this in my li- AGH!" he exclaimed, for everyone present found their minds assaulted by some manner of absolute nonsense. Once he recovered, however, he hastened to take pictures of the strange phenomenon with his PokéGear, before speaking into his tape recorder. "At this time, a strange dark spot on the moon above seems to have bloomed into a bizarre floral shape. Not long after, Venusaur took on a reddish glow and screeched loudly, and our minds were pierced with an incomprehensible mental cacophony, consistent with reports of encounters with various cryptopokological phenomena. At this time, I believe sufficient evidence exists to say that we are dealing with a Gigantamaxed Venusaur as opposed to a Dynamaxed Sapusaur, but that the line between the two is finer than one might imagine. The presence of odd lunar activity in particular concerns me," Eddie said ominously. "The Mist Stone, which is necessary to evolve a Venusaur into Sapusaur, is made from tightly condensed Moon Stone energy. Moon Stones being, of course, from the moon. Earlier, our opponent fired a Solar Beam from the strange dark spot on the moon, suggesting some sort of link and a degree of control. I hypothesize it is attempting to evolve, though to what point and purpose remains unclear. Dynamaxed and Gigantamaxed wild Pokémon such as the ones taken on at these Power Spots are rarely in full control of themselves- this Venusaur must have a closer connection with the old ways than most of its kind, and thus, when forced into Gigantamax, is acting on its basic instincts and attempting to evolve. The Pikachu I evolved into Pikablu previously was drawn to the energy given off by my Mist Stone, so it stands to reason this Venusaur is finding itself drawn to the source." He stopped the recording there. "We must finish this, and fast," he declared. "A PokéGod with little control over its power is dangerous enough, but throwing Dynamax into the mix..." He trailed off ominously.

"O-oh, man, Eddie..." whimpered ZZLZZ. "Th-this is so scary..."

At this, Eddie put a hand on his sister's shoulder. "It will be OK," he reassured her. "We're dealing a lot of damage to it. All we need to do is knock it out before it can manipulate the moon to induce evolution, and it will return to normal. It will still wish to evolve, of course, but it will hopefully have a great deal more common sense."

"...That makes sense," nodded ZZLZZ. Then, she looked down at the Shiny Bulbasaur in her arms. Dusty was still shaking, but now had something of a curious look in her eyes as she looked on at the whole situation. She no longer seemed to be attempting to use Explosion every few seconds. "Y-you heard Eddie, Dusty," she said reassuringly. "It's all gonna be fine."

"Bulba..." murmured Dusty, sounding deep in thought.

Eddie, meanwhile, had turned his attention back to the battle, for even after taking that Frenzy Plant, Hermione was raring to go. "All right, Hermione- Power Whip once more!" he commanded, gesturing towards the Gigantamaxed Venusaur.

Eddie gritted his teeth as the latest volley of attacks proved to still not be enough to fell the Gigantamax Venusaur, but before he could call for another attack, the Shedinja issued a Helping Hand, and the Raichu closed in for the finishing blow. It left Eddie conflicted- on the one hand, he was relieved that the battle was won, but on the other hand, he felt a mild indignation at not getting have Hermione land the finishing blow.

Still, all present sighed with relief as Venusaur shrank back down to size. Eddie wearily took his tape recorder back out. "As expected, upon defeating the Venusaur, it returned to normal and abandoned its attempts to recklessly evolve," Eddie spoke into the device. "This experience has raised many questions, and also seems to strengthen the theory of a link between Dynamax and cryptopokology. I must look into more Gigantamax forms and see what else can Gigantamax to look like the Poké God it evolves into, and I must see if the so-called Gigantamax Factor may in fact be some manner of indicator of a specimen in touch enough with the old ways as to be ideal for exposure to a Mist Stone. Truly there is much and more to learn from all of this. It's experiences like these that tell me I was right to establish my laboratory in Fizzytopia." He stopped the recording with a satisfied grin. "Hermione, how are you feeling?" he asked the Weedle.

"Weeeedle!" Hermione responded. She was feeling the damage she'd taken, but seemed to still be in high spirits nonetheless. Satisfied with this, Eddie allowed Hermione to crawl up onto his shoulder.

"ZZLZZ?" Eddie then said, turning around. "What did you think?"

"...it was really scary at times," admitted ZZLZZ. "B-but, I... I want to try and take part in the next one," she added determinedly.

"An admirable sentiment, but I'm not entirely sure there'll even be more," Eddie admitted. "There hasn't been one in months before this, and even this one seemed to have something of an air of finality to it, if that makes sense," he shrugged. "Still, if I'm wrong, the alarms back home will ensure we're among the first to know."

"OK," smiled ZZLZZ. "Dusty, are you ready to go ho- Dusty?" she added, realizing her Bulbasaur had wandered off.

Fortunately, they didn't have long to look- Dusty had wandered over to where Venusaur once stood, and as she walked back over, she had a strange band in her mouth.

Eddie's eyes widened. "X-x above, is that a Gigantaband?" he breathed.

"Y-you mean like what Mr. Masters's Meowth wears?" asked ZZLZZ, eyeing the band with interest.

"Precisely," confirmed Eddie. "ZZLZZ... it may be no coincidence that Dusty found this," he added, glancing down at the Shiny Bulbasaur. "Dusty, after all, only came to be what she is now due to a cryptopokological phenomenon... I would like to further study Dusty as she grows and evolves. With your permission, of course," he added with a respectful nod to his little sister.

But ZZLZZ smiled and nodded back. "Sure, Eddie," she smiled. "I know you'll be able to help us figure this all out. Dusty, that's OK with you too, right?" she added.

"Saaaur! Bulba!" nodded Dusty. And with all that settled, Eddie graciously accepted the usual rewards from the Gym Leader, and the siblings made their way back home to Sludge Wave Coast.
