I thought for a second you were implying that we had approved a manned spaceflight to Mars and I was like "WHOAH DUDE SWEET."

Absolutely the same as MG. Manned flight to Mars would've been sweet, but this certainly is cool too.

Eh, that's probably not going to happen anytime in the forseeable future. Without the whole one-upmanship of the cold war there's no real incentive to spend insane amounts of money and send people on a trip that takes over a year in each direction (or was 13 months for a round trip? I can't remember) for little to no practical return. Which is incredibly disappointing, but oh well.

That's a great achievement for NASA. If you look at their landing procedure it is extremely complicated.
