Somewhat. But I got Murphy to laugh in my face a lot when I went to use Rock Slide, especially with birdbait.

Murphy's Law is just a combination of confirmation bias and negativity bias with a humorous twist. The Law of Small Numbers is a real thing due to the nature of randomness. :P

I have 587 registered battles on the Zuisho account for VGC 2014. I have used Heat Wave in at least two-thirds of these matches. The law of small numbers protects you when it's two to three uses per game and a total of only six or seven games. It's out the window when we're talking roughly four hundred separate trials.

Well I wouldn't put that point to you anyways, although I am curious on what Smogon's data is on all uses.

In that way I use it wrong. I actually use Murphy's Law more as a joke of "and it went horribly wrong!"

Just played two kids in a row who used Protect on the second-to-last turn of the game when it had nothing going for it:

I don't even think it's sore losers in most cases. I think it's kids emulating professional play but too stupid and/or inexperienced to understand why the pros make the plays they do. "I saw a pro using Protect towards the end of the game when all hope seemed lost for him and he won! Therefore I should do it too! " I agree that some players do it just because they're sore losers. Heck, maybe it's even most of them. But I don't think it's most, and certainly not all.

Sore losers wouldn't fight to the end though, and it appears these folks did. Ill give credit where its due but if I'm wrong do correct me

So I threw together a team for Fairy Face Off and man this event is going to be ridiculous. There is basically One Acceptable Team of Garde/Mawile/Azumarill/Togekiss/Whimsicott/Sylveon.

Im not entirely sure.
So now that Ive had some losses not to taunt, here's whats wrecked my stall team. TWO THINGS. 1. Setting up offense while i set up stall stuff. fair. 2. sWAGGER AND CONFUSION HITTING ME LIKE 80% OF THE DAMN TIME So before I was against smogon's swagger ban because i hadnt dealt with Swager. I just did have to deal with it. Being nearly 6-0'd by a damn ELECTRODE is fucking...can I go homicidal and kill the internet now?

I need to step back from Randbats for a bit :x
I've been playing a few matches and Stone Edge has literally missed more than half the time. One match with a Flygon VS Heatran the Heatran was spamming Lava Plumes because it knew I had nothing SE and STONE EDGE MISSED 4 TIMES IN A ROW and by the time it actually hit I was burnt and urgh. |

Talon I know you've said before that Heat Wave misses more than it should, but that's purely anecdotal evidence. If you could actually provide numbers that'd probably help. Saving all the replays that you use it in would be pretty tedious but that'd be helpful.
Maybe if someone has free time/patience he can set up a 6 vs 6 custom game against himself with an all Flash Fire Heatran team on each side and record the results. That's 192 uses per game. After five games and change (to give 1000 results for nice numbers) report back with findings.

EGH.
So I decided to throw together a Karen team on PB. Apparently the simulator hates me for it as every battle I had I got critted, flinched, and BSed out of half my team every damn game. I cannot win anymore. One simulator is run by annoying elitists, the other is fraught with bad luck for me and the people who built it actually think Stance Change triggers during sleep and other immobilizers. Not to mention the MORONS who think an Emboar that just had Charm used on it was going to OHKO something w/o a critical hit and think that soemthing that 2HKO's with a crit would have 2HKO'd anyway without it. God, each passing day makes me hate comp more and more.

I have mentioned it. They said "No, it works fine" despite me knowing that thats nto how it works. if it IS how it works, then I need to have a talk with Smogon because then theyve been doing it wrong long enough to give birth to a child.

Wait. I've seen Stance Change activate during Sleep on both Smogon and PB.
>The Ability activates prior to and independently of any checks for status conditions that may stop the execution of the user's attack, such as sleep or confusion. From Bulbapedia
