It had been a long time since Miss Lulu had watched the Fizzytopian news. Even if the state of affairs in the country were relatively stable nowadays, it always seemed to her that the media focused on the very worst aspects of current events. The negativity was not good for the babies, she had reasoned... but was it really the babies she was protecting, or herself?

Regardless of her motivation to avoid keeping up to date on news and politics, she could no longer insist on ignorance when the very Hatchery that had become her personal bubble was now front and center in the headlines. Fortunately, the coverage is benign enough that she feels comfortable having three little ones present in the lobby with her - hatchlings which she had agreed to care for while Dr. Newman was away (though he had not mentioned the reason to her, which piqued her curiosity somewhat). They all watch the lobby television as the anchor dramatically asks the viewers, "Will the lessons learned from the Egg House be enough to get this proposal approved by the Elite?"

Miss Lulu sighs, patting the head of the bird Pokemon that had settled beside her. The scandal of the old Egg House was still fresh in everyone's minds, long after the government that had endorsed it was gone. Trainers were outraged upon finding out that the massive establishment, which doled eggs out to registered trainers at an alarming rate, was using... less than ethical methods to keep up the supply to meet demand. The Pokerights violations were something Miss Lulu didn't like to think about, and even though she herself had a hand in the legislation that put an end to unsustainable egg supply and informed the environmentally friendly and safe ways which the Birthday Bubbles Bash Venue now utilized to make trainer dreams come true, she had to admit, silently to herself, that she had skimmed a lot of the reports on the Egg House without reading them in detail, as they made her feel dizzy and sick.

Miss Lulu, of course, would fight to the bitter end to prevent going back to the old ways... but there were compelling arguments to relax the strict controls the new Elite had sanctioned. If the Birthday Bubbles Bash Venue was successful in sustainable egg distribution, why couldn't the Hatchery do the same?

If the legislation passed, there would be many difficult days and long nights ahead. Applications would need to be filled for additional supplies. They would need more incubators. More Pokefood. They'd have to double their stock of medicines. They would need -

Miss Lulu's eyes light up with the sudden realization. They would need help.

What if... and this was entirely hypothetical, of course... but what if an application for a Pokemon assistant just so happened to slip into the pile of papers Miss Lulu would have to fill out?

Miss Lulu turns to her three TV buddies during the commercial break. The little bird and the fiery larva stuff their faces with Pokefood and chat with each other in Pokespeak. Miss Lulu notices that the dark type among them has a strange expression on her face. When the Pokemon notices Miss Lulu looking at her, however, she shakes her furry head and tries to pretend nothing is wrong. Miss Lulu sighs, and tries to convince herself that the baby's ruby-eyed expression of worry was just a figment of her imagination. But the Hatchery Attendant had done a lot of research, and she knew this species very well...

That expression undeniably belonged to a Pokemon who could sense incoming disaster.

All he could hold on to back then was the certainty that he was, in fact, a brilliant researcher. But the last year had seen him blossom, take over the Hatchery from his Tutor and assert himself as the authority on Pokemon Breeding in all of Fizzytopia. His ego had grown proportionately, but in his perspective, not excessively - he had earned every accolade, the right to commandeer the facility and the respect of the scientific community.

But it seems all those ingrates care about is some stupid disposable lottery game, randomness for the sake of randomness. Without a shadow of a doubt, 90% of the Pokemon they hatch from their precious Enigma Eggs will be discarded, traded away for sweets and pocket change. It's... revolting!

He had to calm himself. He was not out of a job yet, and there was a baby dragon yet to deliver to its future caretaker. He had to remain professional - he couldn't throw it all away now. Because even he wasn't needed in Fizzytopia anymore, he knew his services would be well put to use somewhere else. He was Dr. Amadeus Newman, and he would not be overlooked.

"Here you are, your egg," he said politely as he approached the counter, carrying the heavy incubation pod in his arms. "I will leave you to witness the miracle of life in peace. Hope to see you again soon."

With that, he bowed out and returned to his room in the back of the Hatchery. He had a lot of thinking, a lot of planning to do.

A visit from the mysterious Springtime Pyukumuku brought many Eggs from Alola over to the Fizzytopia region. Keith was among the Trainers who flocked to Springtide Isle in hopes of getting to raise an Alolan Pokémon born from such an Egg, and just before the day was done, he chanced upon an Egg that promptly hatched into what he claims to be one of the cutest Pokémon he'd ever seen- not just a Mareanie, but a Shiny one, no less! Aster is quite shy, often hiding her face behind her legs, though once she warms up to someone, she is not shy about hugging them. She is a bit shy about hunting, however- unlike most of her kind, she shies away from hunting Corsola for their coral, preferring to not hurt them and just take whatever falls off them naturally. Pisces, however, likes the murderous spirit Aster's kind are known for, and encourages Aster to take a more aggressive approach to getting her food. This hasn't worked yet, and Aster hopes it never will. And when it comes to battling, Aster is anything but shy, always determined to do her best for Keith, to the point where one seemingly hopeless battle drove her to evolve into a Toxapex.

Newman stood behind the counter, staring at the waiting room where a single person waited. An old, but unreasonably large and muscular man, with a thick white beard and long hair and a sullen, empty look on his face, the elder hadn't so much as addressed Newman as he'd entered the Hatchery.

He's been sitting there for two hours...

He wasn't about to argue with the gargantuan man, but number 1: why wasn't he wearing a shirt, and number two, if all he wanted was a cup of coffee, why couldn't he go to the nearby cafe instead?
Indeed, the old man had simply walked in, paid for a coffee from the vending machine near the counter and sat down in one of the couches, absent-mindedly. And he had indeed been there for the past two hours.

Five PokéBalls in his belt... is he waiting for an egg? If so, why doesn't he walk up to me? And I most definitely would remember if he had left any Pokemon with me before, so...

Suddenly, the man rose to his feet and slowly walked to the exit. Before opening the door and walking out, he left Newman with a single bit of information, delivered in a deep, raspy voice.

"The coffee sucks."

The Doctor stood there, incredulous, looking on as Gugenhagen walked out of the Hatchery. Fortunately, almost immediately afterwards, an actual customer walked in, snapping him back to reality.

"H-hi! Glad to see you, you've come at just the right time! Please wait while I go get your Egg. Also, uh, the coffee machine doesn't... well, it's not working. Sorry about that."
