Personally I think the 'chained to the computer' ruleset is silly (and it was part of the reason that I left FB just after getting into it), but there's no real way of changing most of it without going down a slippery slope. But with regard to the Casino... I personally think there should be maybe a week/fortnight limit on it. If you don't collect your winnings within [set amount of time] they're forfeit. That way it's a bit more lenient on those who can't check in every time there's an update and still prevents people from collecting winnings they earned ages ago but weren't arsed to cash in.

Yeah, I did not mean to make it 100% personal, like I said, I know many others have some similar issues, even if I'm a rather extreme case, and I don't want to put anyone else with issues on the spot, either. I was not meaning to throw it out in a way of guilting, but rather, to offer a perspective that most might not even think of. That's kinda what I do. And, as I said, there can be a lot of different issues, not limited to someone like me being crazy.

With all the recent info that we've gotten I've decided to vote for "Yes" I wish to have a Casino.

To get coins base solely on updates simply isn't a risk I'm willing to take. It 'forces' people to get into more zones and it just isn't stable enough.
To take myself as example, I've been here for 9 months now. And I've seen 4 updates, 4. And I highly doubt that I'd be able to get the amount of coins I got now if I had to get them only through updates (which would be around 80K-100K per update).
This might just be an exception and I'm not too bothered by it, but for a new member it sure sucks to be that exception if it means you get next no coins at all because of it.

The Casino allows EVERYONE to get a relatively stable stream of coins, even if an updater has shit going on in real life. For an updatee it means no updates, but the rest of what FB has to offer can still be done.

And for what Kairne bring up, fair point indeed, but missing a Casino update or 2 or 3 or 6 or even 10 because of whatever reason, I don't think that will hurt nearly as much in coin revenue as having no updates for months on end.

When is the deadline for voting? I'm still undecided on this.

I voted yes, though I'm kinda hoping for a 'Why can't we do both' sort of situation.

The problem if we do both is we'd be stuck with the same inconsistencies and problems that come with zone incomes I listed earlier. For staff it'd be too much work to do both, and for players it'd be way too unequal.

I have not set a deadline on this yet. I would like to see all of our members vote, but if they cannot or choose not to, then there is not much I can do about that. For now, let's tentatively plan on sometime next week. I will give plenty of notice before I close the poll.

Voted yes. Personally, I think reliability trumps ideals at this point. I don't think updating can't be more flexible when it comes to giving out rewards as an aspect in FB. While I don't Casino anymore - haven't for years - the chance of going without coins for what might easily be weeks is a risk that I'd not want on anyone.

I'm not going to cast a "Yes" or "No" vote. My vote is to start off with a Casino, but gradually ween us off the large gains of the Casino and rely more on earning coins from updates. Eventually the winnings should decrease by a certain percentage.

I noticed the poll now has a deadline of December 9, 2012. I don't recall this change being announced. ^^;

It's a shame that we didn't experimentally permit zone updators to award updatees with small purses for their replies to zone adventures over the past four months. In hindsight, this would've been an excellent chance to see just what sort of effect dismantling the Casino shop and migrating its benefits to the zones would have had, if any, on zone activity and the quality of posts submitted in zones.

When we opened certain changes for discussion we were of the opinion we'd be taking the "majority rules" road and going with that. Going from posts already made it was pretty obvious that the majority of members didn't want to give the Casino up anyway, but we asked for input to specifically be posted in relation to the topic to ensure we were not assuming anything. Unfortunately due to a miscommunication Stark did mention a poll that ended up in us having to post one despite the fact it was clear the outcome of that poll based on current discussion would not change the final decision, and it hasn't.

There is definitely a strong tie between the Casino and Coins for Prizes as the two are the equivalent of the Pokémon games "Games Corner". In the games you have a Casino and a place in which you can trade in your coins for prizes. FB's original Casino had a handful of prizes available that you could trade for using the coins you won. We later separated the two by leaving the Casino for gambling only, and creating Coins for Prizes and adding a much larger variety of Pokémon and Items for purchase. We also allowed for other things such as Bases, Base Items, and TCG Cards to be purchased to give an even wider selection of options for spending your coins. This new system helped make the Casino and coin related shops easier to update, and coins easier to monitor in the Coin Exchange.

With so many items then easily available to purchase one downside is how devalued they would become. It was an unfortunate consequence of items becoming more easily accessible, and this also changed how updators doled out rewards. Items are rarely given out in zones anymore unless they are not available in CfP's. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it depends on what each individual values. It is true that prizes of all descriptions, TM's included, can be won in the Casino, and are often given out as prizes in other events and giveaways, but at no point in time have they not been available as zone rewards which is a point of miscommunication I've seen come up several times as some members are of the opinion they are not available in zones. Another negative consequence is that members are no longer interested in being rewarded with an item they can purchase from CfP's. There are pros and cons no matter which way you look at it, and not everyone will agree on which system is better. From this point forward we will ensure the Casino has a "coins only" policy as its sole purpose has been to dole out coins that can then be used to purchase items just as it does in the games, the item rewards are not necessary. It was our bad allowing items to be won in the first place, and for that we take full responsibility. The Casino should never have doled out anything other than coins regardless of our reasoning at the time.

When complaints arose about the Casino, or more accurately the economy, we did read everyone's comments and since it was already glaringly obvious the Casino wasn't going anywhere the decision to again merge it with Coins for Prizes was made for several reasons, none of them beneficial to us as the merger only creates more unnecessary work. Oddly enough, the complaints that did arise weren't based off the current mechanics of the Casino so much as the introduction of rotating Pokémon. We find it unfortunate that the intentions of our move to instate a system like this was completely misunderstood, but whatever the case it was clearly a bad idea so we've scrapped it. The decision to merge was made solely due to complaints arising related to Coins for Prizes.

Whether or not the Casino remains operative was the topic up for discussion. If yes it will stay open and coins will still be won through it. If no then the coin focus will shift to the zones, etc,. Other than asking for an opinion on whether or not members would like the current games and lotteries to stay, how the Casino will operate should it remain was not open to discussion. We need to update it so the time it takes to do so is a huge factor in this decision which will play a major role in deciding what stays, what goes, and what new aspects may or may not be incorporated. The coin aspect of things will not change if the Casino remains. You will have the chance to win the same as before, perhaps a little more if we initiate new games, but you will not be winning less coins than before. We are also well aware of the reasoning our members have for favouring the Casino over RP rewards. It is no secret that updates are slow, that is always going to be a problem with updator based RPG's like FB, and that is ultimately why the Casino will win member votes each and every time. This has nothing to do with anybody gearing FB towards shops, and everything to do with members wanting consistency. This result was inevitable, and as long as members are wanting a regular and reliable source of coinage that doesn't involve us giving them away then it won't change.

From day one of this debate we've heard members saying, "Do whatever is easier for you," but more often than not those very same people are the first to complain when we do. For the time being we will scrap plans for the merger and keep both the Casino and Coins for Prizes running as they were before this topic came up, the only difference being there will no longer be a Lucky Draw in the Casino, and the rotating CfP's Pokémon will be removed and replaced with a designated few permanent Pokémon which will solve the main problem. The Casino has already returned in a reduced capacity to at least bring some degree of normalcy back to the game, as have the regular weekly updates. All we need to do now is look at phasing other aspects in/out during the coming months. People's posts have given us ideas of various ways to go about this which can be slowly experimented with and/or implemented over time.
