Twisted Roots Raid Battle 1: VS Cacturne

Dynamax Boss Cacturne
★★★★
Health Gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: N/A

Raid Challengers:
Emi (Snom) - 300 HP
TheKnightsFury (Toxtricity) - 300 HP
Missingno. Master (Flareon) - 300 HP
Raves (Conkeldurr) - 400 HP
Gemini Spark (Scolipede) - 300 HP
Naru (Charmander) - 300 HP
Cacturne thrusts it's arms forward, ready for a fight. A single step by that tremendous cactus could destroy everything and everyone around. Did the trainers really expect to stop it?
Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
You have until Thursday, January 23th to place your order.

The battle was about to commence and Toxtricity had already started pumping himself up. Strumming his chest organs with deft skill, the Electric/Poison type plays his signature song. Xander could feel the song improving his mood, each note giving him an extra ounce of confidence. Sure, their numbers were few, but if they worked as a team they'd show that Cacturne what's for! The other trainers seemed hesitant. He recognised a few faces from the raid against the Snorlax King, this wasn't their first raid battle, but they were still trying to determine the best strategy for taking down the colossal Pokemon. Xander remembered that during the Snorlax King fight, a lot of trainers started off going for boosting moves. While that would have proved beneficial in the long run, they soon found out that Max Raid Bosses had a powerful technique that allowed them to erase all stat changes. Their numbers were much fewer this time around, which meant they couldn't afford to waste time boosting, but perhaps there was a way to deal damage and expose the Cacturne for the other trainers.......

"That's it Toxtricity! We're going to lead with an Acid Spray!" Xander shouted his order loud enough for the other trainers to hear, hoping they'd exploit the opening the attack would leave. Toxtricity grinned with delight, he relished the opportunity to take the lead. He clenches his stomach and begins to amass the chemicals needed for the attack, that Cacturne wouldn't know what hit it!

Acid Spray (40BP) , let’s drop some stats.

"Helena, can you turn on the TV?" Willa asked.

"Of course," nodded the blue-eyed Banette, a remote control in her cloth hands already. She pointed it at the TV set up in the Pokémon Center lobby and pressed the button to turn it on. Conveniently, it was already on the correct channel, where a live news broadcast was just getting underway.

"...live on the scene where a Dynamaxed Cacturne has appeared at the Twisted Roots Gym!" exclaimed the same reporter who had covered the Gigantamax Snorlax incident, speaking loudly to be heard over the helicopter blades. "I'm Diana Macks, here to bring you this breaking news as it happens! Marv, can you zoom in there? It seems half a dozen brave Trainers have shown up to fight this Cacturne, and are sending out their Pokémon now!" Indeed, as she spoke, six Pokémon materialized, including a Toxtricity (Willa recognized the species, having recently witnessed Keith catch one himself), a Charmander, and an odd yet adorable small icy bug. This prompted Willa to try and find it in her Pokédex.

"Snom, the Worm Pokémon. An Ice and Bug-type," droned the device. "Snom eats snow that piles up on the ground to make its ice spikes grow bigger and more impressive. It spits thread imbued with frigid energy to tie itself to branches, masquerading as an icicle as it sleeps."

"Hm," Willa murmured. She wasn't sure how much the Snom would be able to contribute, but silently scolded herself for thinking that way- after all, Keith had a Weedle who was easily one of his stronger Pokémon. Shaking off her doubts, she looked on, smiling slightly as Marv's camera focused on Keith and Leo.

~~~~~
"Alright," Keith was saying as Cacturne prepared to fight. "Let's get this party started! Leo, ready to roll?"
"Flare!" Leo declared affirmatively. He was always a fiery sort, and now that he was an actual Fire-type, it felt so right. This Cacturne was about to end up extra-crispy.
"Let's go!" Keith grinned. "Leo, use Flamethrower!"
"Flaaaaaaaare!" Leo exclaimed, shooting a jet of fire from his mouth right at the colossal cactus.
OOC: Leo used Flamethrower. (90 BP)
People are going in hot, so let's give the big guy a bit of a cool-off. Ice Punch (75BP), and put in some sheer force behind it.
The trainers unleash their flurry of attacks on the Cacturne, who seems not too impressed by the flurry of moves coming it's way. It shrieked angrily, stomping on the ground and raising it around Keith's young Flareon. It then slams it's needled arm on the ground near Alex's Conkeldurr, causing a rain of needles to strike her. Finally it summoned a dark void, striking Boreas the Snom extremely hard with it's power. Boreas, as well as a few other Pokemon around him, could feel their Special Defense drop. Luckily, the hits from the Pokemon had caused it to Raise it's Shields. Olivia turned to the other trainers, clutching the Dynamax Band with a Wishing Star attached. Isaac had entrusted it to her, but she knew that there were better suited trainers. Xander and his Toxtricity stepped forward, surrounded by the Dynamax energy.
Dynamax Initiative: TheKnightsFury, Toxtricity
Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
Xander was delighted to see a lot of the other trainers take advantage of the Special Defence drop. Working together they'd already managed to force the Cacturne to throw up its shield. As he prepared his next orders, Toxtricity pointed at Xander's pocket, it was glowing! The teenager quickly pulled the band out of his pocket, was it meant to be glowing like this? His father had sent it to him, it was meant to be a Dynamax Band. The Wishing Piece in the band was meant to allow a trainer to Dynamax their Pokemon, but until now, no one had managed to do so.
"Well, how about we give it a shot Toxtricity?" The Electric/Poison type strum its chest in agreement, more power was something he'd never knock back! Xander held up Toxtricity's Friend Ball, recalling his Pokemon. Suddenly the Dynamax Band began to glow as did the ball in his hand. The ball grew tenfold, glowing with a tremendous amount of energy. Raising it above his head, Xander hurled the ball behind him, releasing Toxtricity once more.....
Toxtricity loomed over the other trainers and Pokemon, glancing down at Xander, he gave his trainer a grin. This was awesome! He begins to strum his chest organs, the sound it produced was completely different to when he was in his regular form. The entire cavern shook, but he was just getting started!
"Toxtricity!" Xander shouted, still marvelling at the sheer size of his Pokemon, "go for a Max Ooze!" Although they wouldn't get the boost from the move, Max Moves should prove better at breaking through the Cacturne's defences.
Dynamaxing and using Max Ooze (Venoshock 65BP)
As the battle got underway, with attacks flying from both sides, Keith could see that efforts were being made to further prepare the Trainers as well. No words were exchanged as a strange wristband was pressed into Keith's hand- something to be worn on the right wrist, thankfully, considering his Z-Ring was already occupying his left wrist. Keith had seen this recently- he smiled faintly as he recalled this, for he had been watching TV with Willa about a week ago. Intrigued by the Dynamax phenomenon, they had started watching televised Pokémon fights from the Galar region, and they had witnessed two Trainers Dynamaxing their Pokémon during the Galar League tournament at Wyndon Stadium, culminating in an epic battle between a gigantic Heatmor and a colossal Cramorant. And the Heatmor even won in spite of a type disadvantage!
Keith shook his head- he had to focus! The others were all given Dynamax Bands as well, though only one of them seemed to be swirling with energy at this point. Keith supposed that if that guy passed on the chance to Dynamax, he'd eventually get a shot. A more selfish part of him kinda hoped that would happen, but he knew that they needed the help as fast as they could get it. Also, he was able to witness Xander Dynamaxing his Toxtricity, which was awesome to behold.
~~~~~

"Oh, he didn't get to Dynamax..." Willa murmured as she saw the Toxtricity Dynamax. "And that Stomping Tantrum looked painful, too..."

"...some powerful attacks from Cacturne, but the gathered Trainers are standing strong!" Diana Macks was saying. "Dynamax Bands have been distributed, and one Trainer has already Dynamaxed his Toxtricity! Cacturne has shielded itself, but attempts to break through are already underway!"

Helena had floated next to her brother's girlfriend and was watching the news as well. "Keith and Leo will be fine," she said to Willa.

Willa nodded. "I'm certain of it," she agreed.

~~~~~
"You still good to go, Leo?" Keith called out.
Leo was reeling from the Stomping Tantrum, a super effective blow if ever he'd taken one before, but after shaking his head vigorously he seemed to be fine. "Flaaaaare!" he declared.
Keith nodded and grinned. "Then let's give it another Flamethrower!" he commanded.
OOC: Leo used Flamethrower. (90 BP)
*Keith obtained the Dynamax Band!*
Given Aisa was the fastest out of all the Pokemon involved in the battle, it made sense to see her leap in first and jab the Dynamax Cacturne with her nasty Megahorn attack, though the giant Pokemon seemed unfazed and in fact only got angry from it and Stomped the ground around it, causing tremors that damaged a poor Flareon pretty harshly from its massive Tantrum, a feat that Hyrem's Scolipede could do herself but not at such epic proportions, at least not unless she were to harness this new Dynamax power as well. Next to move was an amphibious looking bipedal creature, purple and yellow in color with what looked to be a "mohawk" made of electricity that traveled from its nose all the way across its head and down the back of its neck. That Pokemon spit out a vitriolic looking liquid that Sprayed across the giant Cacturne's body, the Acidic nature of the attack taking advantage of the target's Grass typing as well as significantly lowering the target's Special Defense. That was something both the Charmander and the Flareon were happy to take advantage of as their Flamethrowers both combined for a pretty nasty looking Fire attack that cleanly struck the Grass-type as well.
Hyrem looked at the Flareon in particular and saw Keith right next to it. "Huh, didn't know Keith had one too! I may have to bring Happy next time I pay him a visit," Hyrem reminded himself. The Dynamax Cacturne looked even further enraged by the double Fire attack and sent its Arm full of Needles straight towards a Pokemon currently out of vision given the massive Scarecrow Pokemon in front of it. Whatever it was, it was pretty strong, seeing as how it retaliated with some sort of Ice-type strike against it. There must have been another Pokemon that also could not be seen at the moment because the Dynamaxed Pokemon looked to be struck with some sort of Bug energy, a sound move given that was the type that took advantage of both of Cacturne's types in addition to lowering its Special Attack. Dark energy soon enveloped the place as the presumably Bug-type Pokemon was struck with Maximum power. While Aisa didn't take damage from the attack, she did feel a little more vulnerable as her Special Defense took a hit, and that was already one of her worst stats.
Soon enough, all eyes were on the trainer with the purple and yellow Pokemon because both of them started glowing with a certain aura, and Hyrem took the time to register the new Pokemon in his Pokedex:
Toxtricity, the Punk Pokemon. This is the Amped Form of this Pokemon, which can drink stagnant water and actually benefit from the poisons and bacteria as if they were nutrients. It also scrapes against the bumps on its chest to charge up electricity, the sounds mimicking music from an electric guitar.
"Wow, really cool Pokemon! I'll have to see what I can do to get one someday!" said Hyrem. "Okay, let's not wait while those two charge up their energy, Aisa: get in there with Poison Jab (80 BP)!"
With the now Dynamaxed Toxtricity the trainers were easily able to take down the shields protecting the Cacturne. However, at the expensive of actually dealing damage. Luckily for the trainers, the powerful Max Ooze boosted their Sp.Atk for the next round. The Cacturne seemed none too impressed by the trainers taking down it's protection, using a flurry of powerful attacks in the hope of taking down the Pokemon the were opposing him. However, without access to spread moves, the creature had to improvise, relying on it's powerful Max Moves to damage it's opponents.
Xander watched as the Pokemon worked together, team work was proving crucial here. Together they manage to wipe out all of the Cacturne's shields in one go. If they kept this up, the giant cactus would be finished in no time! Unfortunately, the tables quickly turned and Toxtricity was struck by a powerful Max Quake. If it wasn't for the extra health the Dynamax had afford them, they would have been KO'd. While they couldn't risk taking another hit like that, they also couldn't do much about it. The other trainers were depending on them, the power of Dynamax gave them the ability to boost their allies and set up situations for them to exploit. Taking a glance at the other Pokemon present, Xander realised that they had quite a few Fire Types on hand. Max Flare would intensify the sunlight, powering up the Fire type moves of his allies. The only downside was that it could potentially benefit the Cacturne, Grass types also had ways to exploit the sunlight. Regardless of the risk, the benefits were too good to pass up.
"Hang in there Toxtricity!" Xander shouted, "you're doing a great job, just a bit more buddy!" Toxtricity picked himself up and begun to strum his chest again, working himself back into a frenzy. This Cacturne was tough, but he was tougher. He wasn't about to let Xander or the others down. There was a fire brewing inside him, it was time to bring the heat. "Max Flare! Burn it down!" Xander cheered.
Max Flare (Fire Punch 75BP)
"...Toxtricity's attack seems to have dealt massive damage to the Cacturne!" Diana Macks was exclaiming as Willa and Helena continued to watch the live news coverage of the raid battle. "Cacturne is taking massive damage, and its shield has been destroyed completely!"
"Yes!" Willa said softly with a small smile. "I do wish I could be there helping, though..."
"I know," Helena nodded. "For what it's worth, I think Yanmega would have been a very big help to them. You'll make it to the next one, I'm sure," she smiled. Willa nodded in response to this, continuing to watch the battle unfold.
~~~~~

Max Ooze... Keith's jaw hung open as he saw the potent Poison move being used, every bit as impressive as an Acid Downpour, and Leo even got a boost in power from it! But at the same time, he wasn't just marveling at the move- he was making sure to keep a sharp eye on Cacturne as well, but fortunately, Leo wasn't on the business end of any of its attacks. Even more fortunately, Keith heard the command given to Toxtricity loud and clear- Max Flare. He'd seen that Heatmor use it on TV- Max Flare was a Fire move so intense it actually intensifies the sun's rays afterwards. "You hear that, Leo?" Keith grinned. "Max Flare- that means we're in for some sunny weather!"

"Flaaaaare!" Leo grinned back. He knew exactly what sunny weather meant for his Fire moves, and he was loving it!

"Then let's keep this going! Leo, Flamethrower once more!" Keith commanded.

It took only a few seconds before the Toxtricity expanded in size and became just as big as the Cacturne, if not just a little bit bigger, but by the time Toxtricity fully Dynamaxed, Aisa had already Jabbed her horns into the Dynamax Cacturne again, though this time they were coated with Poison. It didn't matter much in this instance since they only hit one of seven shields that it put up, with the Toxtricity taking out the most shields and the other five Pokemon following up to finish off the last of the shields.

Cacturne's shields bought it time, however, to do a lot of damage with its attacks. It brought down one arm onto the Charmander, the Punch sending it flying like a clap of Thunder, then the other arm onto one of the Pokemon out of view before: a brown, muscular looking Pokemon holding what looked to be two pillars of concrete in its massive hands. Between the last attack it took and this one, it should have gone down, but it had to be a powerful Fighting-type Pokemon to take a Max Knuckle head on and still be in prime position to fight back. The most damage, however, went to the Dynamaxed Toxtricity as a Max Quake ruptured the ground all around it and took massive advantage of its typing; had it not Dynamaxed, it likely would have been the first to faint.

"Okay Aisa, let's try something different and go for a Rock Climb (90 BP), see if you can climb up that Cacturne and attack later at a better spot!" he told his Scolipede while looking up another Pokemon on his Pokedex:

Conkeldurr, the Muscular Pokemon. Conkeldurr uses two concrete pillars to get around, though it can fight with its punches while leaving them somewhere. However, that is a rare occurrence as this Pokemon prefers to utilize those pillars in its unique fighting style that involves it spinning with them in its hands to slam them against opponents. Legend has it that this Pokemon taught humans the secret to making concrete long ago, but it has still been able to make it better even with scientific advances in technology.

"No wonder it looks so sturdy," Hyrem commented, maybe they had a chance to win with a tanky Pokemon like that...

With their heightened Special Attack, the raiders were able to take the Cacturne to it's second set of shields. With the strong sunlight shining overhead, both Leo and Alke were able to hit rather hard. However, the strong sunlight seemed to be affecting Alke more heavily. She seemed intent to kill, but was exerting so much energy that she herself was also taking damage. The final hit of Rock Climb put a dent in the shields that surrounded the creature, but not much. With the attackers doing so much to the creature, it let out an angered yell, ensuring that the attackers stat boosts had now gone to waste. It then unleashed two powerful Max Moves, ensuring that the attackers truly felt it's wrath.

Dynamax Initiative: TheKnightsFury, Toxtricity

Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
You have until Wednesday, January 29th to place your order.

The bellowing roar washed over them all, and while it did a number on Keith's ears, the more devastating effect was on the Pokémon, their various stat boosts completely gone as a result! "Oof," Keith groaned. But he didn't have much time to collect himself before Leo was then pummeled hard by Max Darkness! The potent Max Move hit for massive damage, and the Flareon was holding on by raw willpower and probably not much else.

Back at Sludge Wave Coast, Willa and Helena weren't the only ones watching the news coverage at this point- most everyone present in the center were drawn by curiosity as they heard Diana Macks detail what was going on at the Twisted Roots Gym, and many of them hadn't actually seen a raid battle in action before. The presence of numerous strangers got Willa to quiet down, and she merely watched the screen with an unreadable expression (though Helena could sense what Willa was feeling whenever Keith could be seen on TV).

The Cacturne had put up another shield. Keith gave an annoyed grunt at this- these things take so many hits to take out! But the Toxtricity was already on it, launching a powerful Max Ooze to kick things off. And while there might not be a resultant Special Attack boost since it was hitting a shield (odd logic, but Keith knew this was hardly the time to question it), the sun was still shining brightly, and Keith knew they had to just keep hammering away. "We got this!" he declared. "Right, Leo?"

"Flaaaaaare!" Leo replied, nodding.

Keith nodded back. "Then let's keep going with what works! Leo, use Flamethrower!" he ordered.

OOC: Leo used Flamethrower. (90 BP)
