I'm not really sure where I should post this. It could potentially fit in three topics.

I was researching this website for info on supernatural beings. I figured it would be scholastic in the same way the hororscope websites I've consulted have presented their material. It seemed such as far down as the first paragraph of each article.
Here's the entry on Santa Claus. Quote:

Angel-human forbidden romance. A spiteful twin brother separated at birth. A magic sword forged out of black coal. Parallel universes and resurrection through cloning. Joy to the world and the spread of Christmas spirit. My word, this festive story has everything. And that was just the introduction.

St. Nicholas was Turkish. That's sort of Middle East, though it has more Western trappings to be honest. Not to rain on your parade of course!

If the writer of that Santa Claus story isn't writing movies/books/games, there's no justice in this world.

5-year old boy: I live today for the thrill of trying to win the Loto-ID again tomorrow!
Woman: Oh, aren't you a good boy! That's right! We can only try once a day! Just overheard this conversation in game on my way out of the Loto-ID Center in Lumiose City. Disturbed by the fact that a 5-year old is displaying such a strong addiction to gambling. (He lives today for the thrill of playing tomorrow? ) Disturbed by the adult's encouraging response. Sure, she's coaxing him away from fixating on it anymore today ... but she isn't discouraging him from continuing to live for gambling either! What the fuck? O_o

Pokémon Y. I don't mind having casinos in children's video games (DAAAMN YOU, EUROPE! ) but I don't think this

Perhaps I'm biased, having had to do some work on gambling policy I am firmly of the belief that the gambling industry is a parasite that ruins the lives of people who need help.

I agree that the gambling industry takes advantage of those who are most in need of a get rich quick solution to their financial woes. That stated, I have absolutely no qualms with most of the games themselves that are attributed to gambling. Blackjack, poker, Roulette: each of these can be fun little minigames in a video game, including a children's video game. No stakes of real consequence, and you can even engineer it to where there are functionally zero stakes of any consequence as the rules favor the player over the house. (A good example of this is the original New Super Mario Bros. title for Nintendo DS which featured, amongst its many minigames, a Blackjack table where the payout was disproportionately high to the maximum bet you could place and to the odds of beating the dealer on any given hand. In such a game, a player couldn't even get sucked into the trap of desperately trying to win back their fictional money, never mind their real money, as NSMB Blackjack was in the long run a money-generating machine.) I don't see their inclusion in children's games as Joe Camel-esque. If we want to go down that road, then I feel we have to ban all card games from children's lives since, by the power of association, it's only a hop, skip and a jump from Old Maid to Poker. I think that's a bit much. Poker as a game itself -- a game where there are winners and losers based on lucky draws, prediction, and various other non-monetary factors -- is perfectly innocuous. It's the fact that money is introduced to the game that transforms it into gambling. You could just as easily turn the Pokémon video games into gambling that same way. (Imagine if Worlds 2014 were treated like horseracing, with bookies taking bets on who would win. You can easily imagine it, because it could have easily been done had people wanted to. You can turn just about any contest into an opportunity for gambling.)
