Something was tugging at the edges of Miss Lulu's normally persistent, glowing smile. Though it was hard to tell from her well-sewn, high quality feminine attire, Miss Lulu was really something of a spendthrift. The books that lined her shelves were borrowed and secondhand; the decor of the Hatchery was carefully purchased at sales; her clothes were sewn by her own hand. She worked hard to develop nutritious recipes for baby Pokefood out of ingredients that didn't break the bank. Really, the one thing - the only thing she spent real, good money on in her business - was her Bliss-E brand 8000-series incubators. When it came to the health and wellness of the developing babies in her care, there was no expense too great. These machines were guaranteed to withstand attacks better than a Shuckle's shell, endure electric surges beyond what even the legendary Raikou and Zapdos could produce, all while providing a safe, personalized, climate-controlled environment for each and every egg. They were more than machines - they were Miss Lulu's helpers. They were the secret to her success.
So why, then, were the incubators not working? Oh, sure, the meters on the machines displayed all the right numbers. There were no error messages, blinking lights or signs of failure. Even so, looking at the eggs - even before the problems began - Miss Lulu knew. Two separate repair experts - one from Bliss-E's Headquarters and one Independent Contractor - had told her the machines were functioning normally. Yet, one by one, as eggs were reaching the 7-day mark, the babies were simply refusing to hatch. A nurse from a nearby town inspected the eggs and declared them healthy. Why, then, were the eggs not hatching? She had tried singing to them, dancing for them, even taking each egg out individually to give it a warm, loving hug. Weeks of trial and error - weeks of more and more expert opinions, analyses - none of it worked. One afternoon, after doing her best to maintain a friendly face after an exacerbated electrician told her, for the third time, that the wiring in the machine had not been tampered with, a terrible thought popped up in Miss Lulu's mind. Had the Hatchery been cursed...? Oh, Arceus. Had it been cursed?? This thought - this one, horrible thought - was the last straw for Miss Lulu. With a cry of unspeakable, pent-up rage, her fists slam down on the main control unit with all the force of a young woman whose purpose in life was being throttled by mysteriously uncooperative machinery. The supposedly attack-proof unit's face partially collapses under the weight of Miss Lulu's fist, the unit smoking and sparking - the incubators themselves beginning to display warnings, flashing red lights and encouragements to "evacuate the egg immediately". Knocked out of her momentary lapse of judgment, Miss Lulu runs to the eggs, terrified that she may have caused them harm, only to find the babies suddenly and miraculously emerging from their eggs! This was the situation that the trainers claiming their babies found Miss Lulu in. Red lights and sirens blaring throughout the Hatchery. The control unit, which has now burst into flames, triggering the sprinkler system. Six newly-hatched babies, running amok, dancing around in the puddles of water produced by the sprinkler system. Miss Lulu, completely drenched, with bruised fists, and utterly lacking control of her life, smiles sheepishly at the incoming trainers. Even in all this chaos, she could still manage a smile for those who rely on her. "My sincerest apologies. We are currently dealing with a maintenance issue which we hope to resolve shortly. In the meantime, your babies are happy to see you!" Indeed, they were. All five babies' expressions fill with delight - a delight beyond even what their exuberant adventures in the water inspired - at the sight of their new trainers. And in all this chaos and mess, this was enough to keep Miss Lulu going - and to give her the strength to call that Bliss-E Repair Technician for the sixth time. --- myahoo has hatched a Lv1 Female Dratini. This egg had become something of a tourist attraction in its week at the Hatchery. When it arrived, small and nondescript save for the festive birthday bow wrapped around it, the knowledgeable Miss Lulu had placed the mysterious ovoid in the largest incubator available. The little egg seemed absolutely dwarfed by its confines, and the choice seemed baffling indeed, given that there were plenty of other, smaller incubators available - that is, until the egg doubled in size in 24 hours. And that certainly wasn't the last of its growing...
By the time the week had passed, a small crowd could be found huddled around that incubator, ooh-ing and aah-ing around the egg, which had, at this point, expanded itself to a size larger than a fully-grown human. It was awe-inspiring... perhaps even a little scary... how large the egg had grown in such a short amount of time. What could be inside? Is it normal for a baby Pokemon to grow that big? Could it... could it be dangerous? Miss Lulu, returned to her serene self after resolving the debacle with her Bliss-E control unit, passes through the crowd with a large basket of fruit. She motions to the others gathered to let the trainer to whom the egg belongs pass to the front of the crowd. With only a mischievous little smile by way of explanation, she peels a banana and hands it to the trainer. Catching a whiff of the sweet fruit, the egg immediately begins to crack, a curious, reptile-like head peaking out, attached to a long, flexible neck. As Miss Lulu opens the incubator door, the eager Pokemon deftly takes a bite from the banana in the trainer's hand, the giant, yet gentle baby's expression filled with delight. Miss Lulu coos at the sight of the creature, which breaks itself free from its shell with considerable power. "A baby that big is sure to have a heart to match," she says with a bit of a shy giggle. Perhaps a cliche, but given the compassionate gaze clear in this Pokemon's eyes, perhaps there's some truth to it... --- Schala has hatched a Lv1 Male Tropius with EM Bullet Seed and EM Leaf Storm. "I know, I know... Normally, our babies hatch in the incubator, but this one needs a bit of extra love and care. O-oh, look!" Miss Lulu's eyes widen, as she approaches with the egg, holding it out for Hyrem to see. "It's hatching~!" Giving the trainer a moment to inspect the egg, a sudden pop gives way to an explosion of glitter and confetti, spraying all over the trainer! Miss Lulu laughs uproariously at the sudden turn of events, her laughter joined by what sounds like delighted barking from directly behind her. With impish amusement, a little puppy Pokemon emerges from her shadow - it seems like he was using Miss Lulu as a shield from the glitter, so he could safely watch the prank. Fresh out of the egg, and already quite clever... this boy might be trouble! "April Fool's!" Miss Lulu shouts, joined with an equally enthusiastic howl by the puppy Pokemon, who begins attempting to brush the glitter off his new trainer's pants with his tail. A sudden realization dawns on Miss Lulu as she watches the glitter fall to the floor of the Hatchery lobby: "Oh, goodness... The vacuum is still broken, isn't it? And the repair shop is closed for the holiday..." Miss Lulu sighs. Sometimes, the joke is on you. --- Gemini Spark has hatched a Lv.1 Male Rockruff. Quote:

The hatchery was alive with the sounds of trainers once again. There had been an issue about a week back with the incubators, but everything seemed to be presently in order as Isaac walked through the doors. He was a familiar face at this point in his travels, hell, the staff even knew him by name at this point. This would be his second last hatch of the year other than the eggs that were delivered to him by the league, and it was a little heartbreaking to say the least. As he was escorted to the back, he was immediately greeted by his rather massive "baby" Lapras. Although he didn't owe him anything, Will had gifted her to him after he had decided to part ways with Fizzytopia. He smiled upon seeing her face light up at his arrival, she might be a hulking dinosaur but she was a baby when it came to her master.
"Hey, Ophi!" He called, walking over to the holding area. The staff here was certainly much too kind, they had segregated an area filled with water just for the large water dinosaur. She swam towards him, murmuring small noises as she approached. He reached down and rubbed her head, noticing something on her back curled into a small ball. It appeared to be a mere flower bulb from Isaac's area of sight. "Aw man, don't tell me I missed it!" He sighed, causing the Lapras to lean upwards and brush her head against his scruffy chin. "Aw, hey... it's alright Ophi. I'm not upset with you." He scratched under her chin, glancing downwards. "Mind if I see the little guy or gal?" He asked, pointing towards the creature that looked very tiny in comparison to it's mother. Ophelia turned her neck, gently nudging the Bulbasaur with her head. It stirred slightly before opening it's eyes. It glanced upwards at it's mother, who turned slightly towards Isaac. Although young, the creature seemed to understand. It hastily climbed up it's mother's neck to meet it's new master. "Hi there!" Called Isaac as the creature jumped into his arms, he inspected it briefly before saying, mostly to himself: "Ah, another boy." He gave a knowing smile, placing him on the ground beside him and withdrawing two Pokeballs from his belt. The Bulbasaur sunk down slightly, causing Isaac to kneel and tut softly. "Don't worry little guy, there's just some people I want you to meet." He rolled the Pokeballs on the ground, releasing Milo and Luca from their Pokeballs. The owl let out a small yawn, tilting his head at their new teammate. Milo seemed a little shy, but took it upon himself to greet the Bulbasaur, walking towards it and giving a shy yet welcoming smile. Isaac smiled, and with a look back at Ophelia and then at the Bulbasaur. "What do you guys think of Sam?" Asked Isaac, causing Ophelia to give a noise of approval and the two other grass types to give welcoming nods. "Alright, it's settled then. Welcome to the team, Sam!" Called Isaac, causing everyone to cheer and gather around the Bulbasaur. [Picking up Sam the Bulbasaur! Declaring his ability to be Chlorophyll and enclosing him in a regular Pokeball. (Leaving me with 7) and delcaring his nature to be Quiet. Thanks again Gary!!!!]

"Ruff rockruff~" he jumped multiple times in excitement before finally leaping into Hyrem's arms and giving a few good licks to the face before settling in. It was a shame he wasn't hatched before the Lunar New Year celebration, but perhaps he was the friend referred to in the fortune given to Hyrem at the festival in Cloud Garden? Seemed fitting given he was a dog, after all! {Putting him in a Premier Ball (1/4), thanks for the birthday hatch, Marion! =3} |

She showed up the image of spring, hair plaited nicely by her adopted Machop, Nani (... how was her Pokemon better at hairstyling than herself? Damn...), blonde locks set over bare shoulders. Her dress was low cut, grey and decorated with colourful florals of pinks, whites and blues; matched with low heel brown brogues and a few accessories. Alice was certainly enjoying the cloudless skies and longer days, and even when the temperature happened to be lower, she rarely noticed it - and generally had a cardigan or jacket packed on the rare occasion that she did. This time she had some company, at least. A vibrantly pink Ekans, Eliza, slithered around her neck, coiling over one dainty arm and partially into her lap. The quiet of the waiting room was occasionally broken by hisses, cooing or laughter (the owner was ticklish). In its basic form like the majority of Alice's team, Eliza was deceptively powerful just as many of them were. It helped curb her anxiety and kept her entertained to have Eliza literally around her, booping the Pokemon's snoot and just able to love on her. Behind their lenses, Alice's blue eyes peered up at the clock. Hopefully not long now. This wait was killing her. ... Maybe not an appropriate turn of phrase to use in the Hatchery anymore, though.

"Spring is the time for flowers, little one." Miss Lulu's voice, warm and soft, envelops the baby like a blanket. "The bright colors, the pretty smells... Don't you want to experience them? Hear the birdsong?" In that moment, the sound of Ekans laughter pierces the incubation room. Miss Lulu winces. The species due to hatch usually had an instinctual fear of this Pokemon... and yet, the sound immediately inspires a little hand to push itself out of the shell, waving in the direction of the sound. "Heard a new friend, did you?" Miss Lulu's relief is clear in her voice; traumatizing the baby in the moments of its birth would be disastrous. The egg responds by sprouting a pair of feet, which immediately begin attempting a toddling motion. Miss Lulu quietly unlatches the incubator, picking up the baby from within and setting it on the floor. She gently guides the baby as it waddles forth, its second, stubby arm emerging. An odd sight indeed, this walking egg! As it makes its way to the waiting room, the top of the egg finally opens, like a strange, pale yellow blossom, to reveal a pair of curious, black eyes and a beaming smile. The little arms wiggle upward at Alice, indicating a desire to be picked up. As Miss Lulu follows, she regards Alice with an equally sunny expression. "Ah, Alice! What a lovely look you have chosen for today - perfect for the season! My sincere apologies for the wait, but all good things take patience." Why did that sound familiar...? --- Meetan has hatched a Lv.1 Female Togepi with EM Lucky Chant and EM Mirror Move. |
