I had no idea what it was about until I read Kuno's spoiler.

In response to Kuno:

Yeah I stopped watching Kokoro Connect during the second to last episode. It had a fairly good start then it just started reeking "forced drama". Sometime after the first arc, I quit taking the show seriously.

Yeah that's where I pretty much stopped. Do you like my theory on what should have happened?

Spoiler: show
Have that girl die with that sacrifice guy dying in her body. She then has to live on as the one who sacrificed himself for her.

That would have been some sort of madoka level psychological drama that you literally never see anywhere. Instead they pussied out and went the safe and boring route.

AIURA

Yes, we've got a four-minute-show I actually like this season! So much Steve Jobs and crabs in the opening (WHY?!), but the main content is relaxing and fun, even if it's at least yet to achieve Azumanga Daioh levels of fun. I'd love it if at some points all the short AIURA episodes were piled into 25-minute-episodes like they did with Azumanga, but I guess it'll be a while until then (if it ever happens).

That wouldn't have been bad, but it was too early for it, so I somewhat understand them going the safe route. If it was closer towards the end, then it wouldn't have been a bad route to go on.

I absolutely hated their second gimmick. Something about it just rubbed me the wrong way. "RRRAAAAAH! MY DESIRES ARE UNLEASHED! BEWARE ME!"

On an unrelated note, I might, MIGHT start Hanasaku Iroha. It depends on what I have on my plate. Why you ask? Kishida Mel, that's why!

PhotoKano: Through Episode 04. The series certainly earns its nickname of PornoKano, but it's so softcore and so innocent that it isn't enough to sully the series' occasional moments of charm. That stated, the series is nothing particularly special -- it's basically your standard dating sim but this time told from the perspective of a protagonist who's an amateur photographer.

Earlier, I theorized that this series would play out like Amagami SS. Well, I was wrong. So let me get that out of the way. The series hasn't had Maeda date one girl at a time. In fact, he hasn't dated anyone just yet. But he has flirted with / started to develop a romantic relationship with ... nearly all the girls. By the end of Episode 04, the pack order goes something like:
Practically his girlfriend:
Niimi (his childhood friend; the school idol)
Nonoka (his other childhood friend; a top female athlete)
Muroto (the student council president)
Mai (the loli gymnast)

Has had some chemistry with:
Kanon (his little sister)
Rina (the girl who likes to cook; the large-breasted girl with the long blondish-brown hair)
Tomoe (the quiet girl who admires Niimi and swore Maeda to secrecy)
Ootani-sensei (the student teacher)

Not much chemistry yet:
Sanehara (the girl with the short dark hair who's Member #3 of the other photography club)
Uchida (the girl with the long bangs covering her eyes)
the president of the other photography club
Like, it's pretty clear that this won't be at all like Amagami SS. Instead, PhotoKano looks like it'll be a fairly typical harem anime: the protagonist likes ~every girl, ~every girl likes the protagonist, and he interacts with each of them every one to two episodes. You can definitely feel where the series has given us events from each of the girls' individual routes. Like ... the scene in the hallway is probably a Nonoka+Muroto scene. The scene at the shoe locker with Niimi is probably the Niimi route's version while the same shoe locker scene (different outcome!) with Mai is probably from the Mai route. So on and so forth. Given this, I could easily see PhotoKano being just a 12 or 13-episode series. Unlike Amagami SS (26 episodes @ 3-4 episodes per girlfriend), this feels like it's just going to be a 12-episode story of Maeda's adventures with all of the girls put together, without him ever officially dating any of them.

Might just stick with it at this point. Maeda hasn't been too perverted, and I do like several of the girls.

I could have sworn there was a thread about Hanasaku Iroha. Oh well, I'll talk about it here.

Hanasaku Iroha
I've watched the first two episodes of this. So far I like the show. The first episode was a bit depressing, but thankfully the main girl didn't act all emo. Actually she's a really good main character. She's more than interesting enough to run a show. Hopefully this show will keep it up. I'm almost ashamed that I didn't watch it when it aired.

Oh, also, here's Sanrio's newest game. Not much to say about it, but god it looks cute. Apparently it has absolutely nothing to do with the human girls who appear at the beginning. It's probably just something to lure in the otaku.

I could've sworn there was too. I guess you can chalk it up to laziness + Yuki and I were the only two who watched it while it aired + those seasons (Spring + Summer 2011) were kinda busy with other threads (Kaiji, AnoHana, Usagi Drop ...). I do remember using the orange font tag here a lot though for Hanasaku Iroha, so I guess that's my soft confirmation in my memory that we indeed never did end up giving it its own thread.

You might end up enjoying it more than we did since you'll get to watch it at your own pace instead of being limited to one episode a week like it or not. I will say that it's a very humble little series. It doesn't try and be epic or grandiose. And that suits it perfectly fine.

Genesis of Aquarion:
Okay, so I started watching this recently, and am up to Episode 8. So far, it has been okay, but truthfully it hasn't really done a lot to actually draw my attention plot-wise. But the animation is extremely beautifully done, or at I think it is, the characters are intriguing enough for me to want to know what happens to them, and it has GIANT COMBINING MECHA! That in itself is enough for me to continue watching it.

And on a note on what I am planning to watchl:
- Cardfight! Vanguard!
- Legend of Galactic Heroes
- Zettai Karen Children, and eventually Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited.
- The rest of the Persona 4 Anime.

What on earth drove you to watch Sousei no Aquarion? Not criticizing, just curious. I'm the only other person here who's seen it.

Honestly I was watching a JO review and a small clip of the sequel series played and I thought that it looked cool, and it had giant combining mecha, and I decided that I wanted to watch the series. And the whole orgasming robot thing really isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be, after a single episode I didn't really even notice it anymore.

I don't get how the sequel suddenly made the franchise immensely more popular, it's kind of curious to me. A bunch of people started watching it (though, based on the original, it was obvious how it was going to end up) when it debut and it just ran away from there. Very strange that such an old show would randomly get renewed interest.

Be sure to watch Wings of Hope after you've finished the main series. I had a few beefs with Sousei proper that were fixed in Wings of Hope, but Wings of Glory was a disappointment, although it had great closure.

Maybe before the sequel came out, people didn't know about Aquarion? That's what happened with me.

Genesis of Aquarion:
Watched up to episode 17. Animation has still been nought more than absolutely amazing, and the character developments have just kept coming, which is what has kept me drawn into the series. Honestly, I don't really know what the actual plot of the show is other than the really basics things and one possibly spoilery thing, so I won't post it, but still I think I am going to finish watchign this series.

Edit: Finished the series. I have one or two things to say before I share my thoughts on the finale, which will be spoilered.

In episode 19, the art completely changed for the episode, and it looked absolutely horrible. I think that it was used because the art style is changed during a part of the episode where Sirius, Reika and Apollo are trapped by some spell... thing, and that change in art I thought wasn't too bad. But dear god, for the rest of the episode, it was just absolutely horrendous and completely pulled me out of the episode.

Now for the finale:
Spoiler: show
It was amazeballs! Really well animated, it didn't feel clunky, the fight was smooth. It was just really well done, and nothing felt like it was dragging on for too long. Over the series I really found myself liking Shigumi, and when she opens up the portal, I was honestly afraif that she had ended up dying. Thankfully, that wasn't the case, because I teared up a couple of times and there was a good chance that if she had died then I would have started crying. And the scene when Apollo, Sirius and Tome decided to sacrifice themselves and Aquarion reparred the world, was just beautiful.

Overall I seriously liked this series, and I will be watching the OVA and the sequel series, but I might give them a little bit of time before I watch them.

Cardfight!! Vanguard:
I watched the first six episode of this yesterday, the dub is being uploaded onto Youtube officially, and so far I'm liking it. It really isn't much more than a standard card fighting anime, but so far it isn't ridiculously complicated, and the characters are still fairly standard archetypes, but there is still room for that to change. So far, it's just a nice little thing to watch, but I'm going to keep on watching to see if I do end up properly liking it.

I only really know Aquarion for the purple haired girl with two eye colors, and the green haired girl with the retarded name (Zessica). The purple haired girl has some awesome doujins about her, and none of them are weird shit.

The real reason I posted is....STUFF!

Shingeki no Kyojin
Well look at that. The show actually kinda surprised me. I can't say I like or dislike this event, since it is kinda weird. It will make the rest of the show more bearable, so it's part good part weird. Also how it first happened was really stupid. I still love how this show manages to throw in mundane drama right before the killing shit happens. Anyway, this show got a little of my attention before I was considering dropping it.

Hentai Ouji blah blah blah
God damnit. Right after I complement the show for throwing a genuinely good episode at me, it goes retarded. I mean, I get that it's supposed to be a joke, but it wasn't really funny. My guard was also lowered a bit because the other girl had a genuinely serious problem, so the other, main girl having one as a joke, threw me off a bit, and not in a good way. Oh well, I'm still kinda enjoying the show, despite thinking I'd despise it.

Hanasaku Iroha
I'm 10 episodes through this. So far I'm enjoying this alot more than I thought I would. Before starting, I thought I'd drop it out of boredom. Scenes that I would normally get irritated at, because they seem to be mundane drama, come off as kinda silly and comical, so they don't bother me anywhere as much as they normally would. Like in the latest episode I watched, where the main girl starts bawling about something I'd usually find stupid and cliched out the ass. It didn't bother me, but actually kinda made me grin, because she's really sick and her mind isn't working right, so it just came off as her being goofy because she's sick.

Rewrite - 8/10

My classes sacrificed for the promise of beating this game, and beat it I did. The price was high, but the experience was none-the-less fulfilling.

Rewrite is basically Fate/stay night meets KEY meets Muv-Luv Alternative. There's a ton of structural similarities between FSN, MLA and Rewrite. The conflicts, nature and adventure are in FSN style, while the plot organization and devices is much more similar to MLA, although it doesn't have MLA's powerful ending and logical rigor to really give heartfelt closure.

Don't take that the wrong way. The Terra Path is a beast. It is super long but I never really stopped playing through it. Had it maintained a stronger sense of consistency and detail, and not dropped explanations or scenes on some things, I would have given it a 10/10. That's how impressed I was even though I figured out almost all the major points ahead of time. So it just gets a 9 for being above and beyond in quality to anything I've played recently. Bravo!

My gripes

Spoiler: show
-Koutaro's battle with the Earth Dragon wasn't shown. The Earth Dragon was never really defeated in the game, always side-stepped or avoided,
-the circumstances behind Koutaro's existence in the Common Path. Ostensibly, after he was cut up by Kagari, Kotori patched him up and he stayed comatose for a few years, woke up and joined Kotori in junior high. Koutaro was in his 20's while Kotori was in elementary, which places him at like 10 years older than her. He's already graduated junior high once (with Imayia), why does he have to go again? There's no explanation for why his 20-30 year old body suddenly reverted to a adolescent's. Tsukuno also says she's 24 in Akane's Route., but she was the same age as Koutaro, which would put her at 14 during the events of Terra. Moreover it's just weird nobody in those routes comments on it since they knew Koutaro a decade earlier. They act like they've never seen him before, which given the huge number of people with conflicting interests makes it hard to maintain.
-the Moon sequence. I don't see the temporal organization. Did all the routes of Rewrite happen, then Kazamatsuri teleported to the Moon, Kagari's twin researched the theory, life on the moon ends but aura returns to Earth and redoes all of human history in exactly the same way? Was that an entirely linear sequence or did some things take place at different points in time?
-the ending, mostly for the same reason as above, when Koutaro was brought back to life, why didn't anyone go "hey I know this guy?" seeing as he had a HUGE impact on Akane and Kotori's child-hood.

All things considered, the main routes by the head writer guy were consistently good - I think the lowest I gave was a 6, with two 8's and a rare 9 - but all that was enough to up the overall rating from 6/7 territory. My only chief regret is I never had my mind blown in Terra. I need to find a lady who can give me a mind blow-job!

Hanasaku Iroha
I just finished watching this show. For the most part, I really enjoyed this. Funny that I only started this because an artist I like is the original character designer. First my interest was grabbed by Ohana. She is such an entertaining main character. PA puts some great expressions on her, and how she handled everything by thinking "If you don't accept me, I'll make you accept me!" rather than going emo were some good starting points for her. After a while, I grew to really like the atmosphere of the show. Hell I spent almost the entire show grinning like a damn idiot, even on the most boring episodes. I wasn't crazy about alot of the relationship bits, especially with Koichi. It felt like they were pulling stuff out of their asses with him. I'm really glad I started watching this. Thank you Kishida Mel for showing me the way to this good title! Hanasaku Iroha gets a 8.5 from me.

EDIT:

Congratulations on completing Rewrite! You have the power of speed reading if you try! For the missing detail in Terra, I'm HOPING it'll be covered in the fandisc. That's often the case in VNs with bunches of unanswered questions. Now to wait until it's translated. Supposedly Amaterasu is going to work on it after they're finished translating their current two VNs.

Wow, that is some pretty hefty praise (in the form of that score) for Hanasaku Iroha. Glad you enjoyed it so much though.

Haven't watched much recently, though I probably will soon. I have watched the latest Hunter x Hunter as well as the latest PhotoKano. I just haven't posted about them yet. I have not watched the latest Shingeki no Kyojin, Suisei no Gargantia, or Aku no Hana. I still have yet to pick up Hataraku Maou-sama but am looking forward to doing so given your guys' continued enthusiasm for the series. (Well, some of you anyway. IIRC some of you were starting to lose faith in the series? ^^; Uh oh!)

Man...I feel kinda empty right now.

I finished Rewrite, those classes are over, I've so thoroughly dominated Yu-Gi-Oh! I'm not interested in playing so much anymore...I need some focus.

I need some recommendations. I know what we've been watching in the current season but my mind's a blank and I'm afraid of spoilers! Each person give me one show they like recently (since 2011). I'll look into it and get some serious watching in.

I...think I'll read Cross Channel and finish off Sharnoth on the VN side.

One show I really liked since 2011 ... that you don't already know the story to ... that you haven't watched yet ... hmm ...

Might I recommend an oldie but an goodie excellentie? Why not try checking out Karei Naru Ichizoku? It's really good. Failing that, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Failing that, Yoshitsune.

If you insist against live-action fare, though, and if you insist that it has to be from the past two years, then how about ... hmm ... how about ... *looks over list* ... I got nothin'. That isn't to say that I haven't watched shows over the past two years that I've enjoyed, but they're either:
  1. not ones I enjoyed strongly enough to plug to you right now when I'm on the hot seat to recommend you something excellent (e.g. any of the Spring 2013 fare I'm watching thus far)
  2. ones you watched already (e.g. Kaiji S2)
  3. ones you're watching with me (e.g. HxH 2011)
  4. ones you've yet to watch and should like but dammit you're weird and stubborn and BAKA BAKA BAKA! ("e.g." nothin'. Pretty much just Fate/Zero. )
  5. ones that I don't think you'd care for anyway (e.g. Minami-ke Tadaima)
Don't really have any great ones to recommend to you currently. Even the recent NHK Taiga drama I watched was merely good, not great, and not something I'd recommend to someone willing to give me their one-time trust for a 35-hour commitment. But if you're willing to go back to the past with me, then yeah, any of Karei Naru Ichizoku, Yoshitsune, or Three Kingdoms (2010) would be my recommendations. We have a thread for two of the three. I should probably rewatch Yoshitsune and make a thread for it too.

I don't think DCD feels the need to watch Romance of the Three Kingdoms, because he already played Koihime Musou!

Not quiiiiiiiiite the same, Loki. ^_^; Your comparison would've gone with something like "I don't need to learn how to take over all of China! I watched Koihime Musou!"

But anyway ... yeah, I certainly should hope that isn't the case, Mcsweeney. That'd be like saying "I don't need to watch Akagi because I already watched Saki." Say it isn't so, Doppel! Say it isn't so!

Still haven't watched any more of the lingering Winter 2013 or the new Spring 2013 series. Though I did watch Episodes 12 and 13 of the Episode N story arc in the Pokémon anime. I'm two minutes away from finishing the second to last episode of Maoyuu, so I should probably push through and finish that one off.
