A dirty and dingy clearing that looks like it’s seen better days. With the horrors of the bloodgheist behind her (hopefully), Liawe takes a second to catch her breath before heading South.

You suddenly feel extremely drained and start to doze off on the bench… However, after a few minutes a pungent odor hits your nose and you jolt awake. As you open your eyes, you spot a grotesque floral wreath hovering beside you, drenched in blood and emitting a rotten scent. You have no idea where it came from, but its unblinking stare gives off very strong vibes to stay away from it.

Discarded Furniture: (lilboocorsola)
A small resting area littered with some discarded garden furniture. There is a rusty bench next to an old table that has a leg that looks like it’s about to fall off if you feel like taking a rest. Your options are West, North, or South.

Somewhere within the maze a gruesome, ominous sound permeates the entire maze. It sounds like sloshing, or maybe scratching; it doesn’t sound natural so it’s hard to tell. Either way, it can’t be good.
"You're... not the Comfey from the Cloud Garden, are you?"

Jess stared at the bloody noose, the shape of it strangely comforting. As if still half-asleep, she felt herself reaching slowly into her bag and pulling out a rope, not even questioning where it came from. Like a trance, she began to knot it into a loop...

"Death does not fit everyone, Jess, such thoughts I heard, it doesn't suit you."

A bark disrupted her dream, and she looked down to see her friends observing her actions anxiously. Somehow, she seemed to sense someone else was watching her as well...

"Sorry, guys." She swallowed. "I don't know what came over me. ...Come on, let's just use this to try and get as far away from here as possible."

Using 1x Escape Rope.

ChrisClark13, Ironthunder: You head south from the defaced statue and head in that direction for a short ways until the path makes an abrupt u-turn and heads north for quite some distance. The trail then makes a quick east then west diversion before turning back north into another clearing…

Raves: You head north from the dilapidated shed, heading in that direction for a ways until you make a u-turn and head south until you find yourself at another clearing…

Pearl’s Perap, Emp: You choose one of the pathways and immediately make a sharp turn and approach a clearing with an archway… it can’t be… the Maze’s Entrance? No way, do you move closer to find out?

lilboocorsola: Not wanting any part of the grotesque horrors that the Comfey has brought, you pull out a piece of rope and yeet it into the sky. Once it has latched firmly onto a passing airplane or Pidove or cloud or something, you swing your way all the way back to the Maze’s Entrance.
Spoiler: show

PikaGod: You head west from the spooky tree in what appears to be a very short walk before coming across another clearing…

Emi, Lil’twick: You head south from the armored statue, and the trail almost immediately turns east. After a short while of walking, the path makes a u-turn and points west for a short while. The trail then turns north again and them immediately u-turns south. As you make your way through the maze you begin to wonder if you’ve gone down a path where you might never be found again. The trail turns east and immediately u-turns west before turning north for another long stretch of eventless adventure. The trail then u-turns south, then east, then south again, and you come across… a dead end. All of that walking for nothing. Just as you’re about to turn back, a yellow clawed hand rests on you and your Pokemon’s shoulders and before you know it, everything goes white for a moment…

Emi, Lil’twick: Your vision clears as you stand in another dead end, but this one is definitely different from where you were before. That being said, your only exit is to the south…

Sneaze: You head north at the fork in the road, becoming increasingly disoriented through the thick of the haze as you rounded a corner. Despite having ventured down a path with no additional options, you began to feel increasingly lost the deeper you went. However, as you finally make it to the end of the path, all that lies before you is a dead end. Nothing left to do here but turn back to the fork in the road, with your options being North the way you just came, South West in the direction of the armored statue, or South.

~~~Locations~~~
Maze Entrance: (sixdragons, lilboocorsola)
As you step foot into the Maze of Shrubbery, you experience a strange sensation that you can’t quite trust your sense of direction anymore. There are three paths to traverse; to the East, to the West, and to the North.
Armored Statue: (PikaGod)
You come across a rather large clearing that is highlighted by a prominent statue in the middle of a soldier with a shield in one hand and a sword in the other. Your options are South, West, North, North East, or East in the direction of the spooky tree. The statue seems to be taking an aggressive stance…
Discarded Furniture: (Raves)
A small resting area littered with some discarded garden furniture. There is a rusty bench next to an old table that has a leg that looks like it’s about to fall off if you feel like taking a rest. Your options are West, North, or South. As you look around, you suddenly notice a very creepy looking Comfey drenched in blood blocking the South exit. You have no idea where it came from, but its unblinking stare gives off very strong vibes to stay away from it.
Spoiler: show
The Perch: (ChrisClark13, Ironthunder)
An old manmade bird perch in the middle of a clearing. Your options are East, West, or South back the way you came. A blood soaked larva wriggles across the East pathway, gazing up at you. You don’t know where it came from, but its unblinking stare gives off very strong vibes to stay away from it.
Spoiler: show
Disorienting Corridor: (Emp, Pearl’s Perap)
A simple fork in the road, but a mysterious feeling completely blocks your perception of direction. Your options are the First pathway, the Second pathway, or the Third pathway. A trail of string seems to be going down the Third pathway.
Maze Exit:
A simple fork in the road, but a mysterious feeling completely blocks your perception of direction. Your options are the First pathway, the Second pathway, or the Third pathway. A trail of string seems to be going down the Third pathway.
As Zak, Crawford and Sunny made their way through the second offshoot of the disorientating passage, they thought they could just about make out the shape of their friend Emp and his team mates in the haze nearby. Though they had taken their separate paths earlier in the maze, the man was relieved to see that his old friend hadn't fallen foul to any of the maze's inhabitants. On sight of the other man, the shiny Drifblim sang out a melodious greeting, remembering him from his previous life.
Up ahead of the trio as they pressed on, it looked as if there was an archway similar to the one at the entrance to the mysterious maze. It couldn't be the same one, they had traversed hither and thither between the hedges and no matter how disorientating things were, Zak had a strong feeling that this was a new location and perhaps the exit they were seeking. His Pokémon companions noticed the arch in the distance too and Crawford the Murkrow squawked excitedly at the sight of it: perhaps there would be more of his fellow crows gathered there.
"Let's keep pushing forwards guys, that archway might just be where we need to be. Who knows, maybe that Palm fellow we entered with will have already beaten us there?"
Zak left the question hanging in the air as the three of them tried their best to focus and push on against the befuddling vibes of the maze to what they hoped would be its exit.
Entering the art part of the competition and submitting the following evolution artworks
Instead of following through fully with the pumpkin theme, I opted to follow along with the pumpkin flower or plant before it pollinates and grows into a pumpkin since Bulbasaur has a seed on its back, Pumpkasaur would seem to follow the same logic in my mind.
The first evolution follows the Grass / Posion theme but Umbragsaur gains the Dark type upon evolving from Revisisaur in place of posion.
I used to grow pumpkins and other plants like it, so here's my logic. Pumpkins naturally reach out with their vines and latch on to other plants for support, and when they do this its actually harmful to other plants that are new or young because they can and will choke out plants they grab onto, they are also covered in tiny bristles that feel like little needles and make people itchy as a defense mechanism. These plants need full sun and require heavy nutrients and of course like most plants, the right PH balance in the soil. Despite this, they can be quite hardy and take quite a beating.
In the pokemon world, this could equate to them gaining Dark type over keeping poison due to them being vicious to other plant pokemon and attempting to choke them out, and or chase others off in competition for food resources. As well as the Pumpkin themsevles not being posionous, which Umbragsaur grows under its leaves. Depending on how much nutrients and how much sun Umbragsaur get along with water could help make them more vivid in color and size or how diminished they are and how small they would be compared to their kantonian variants, as well as their pumpkins they grow.
Small to medium-sized pumpkins ranging from a few ounces to up to 20 lbs could be found growing under Umbragsaurs leaves, as huge leaves keep the fruit/squash from over-ripening, and sunburnt. These pumpkins can be bitter, or have an earthy-sweet flavor and can be very rich in nutrients for those who manage to pick and eat them.
Their names come from the words Revision and Umbrageous. Revision is the act of changing and growing or making different, Umbrageous is an adjective word that means to protect from the suns rays.
While Umbrage is a noun that means to take offense or be resentful from slight indiginaties, And the word Umbrage is related to the word Umbra or Umbran which is a noun that denotes a place or time where there is little to no light.
I have been talkin about this contest for a while and debating with friends outside fizzyb about what I should make them look like and these sprites were what they liked best and that I felt could closely follow along with what I have come up with so far.
Spoiler: show
ChrisClark13, Ironthunder: You head down the western path from the perch. You turn north and then west again, walking in that direction for quite some time before making a u-turn east for an equal distance. You turn north, then east again, then u-turn west and move in that direction until you become completely disoriented which direction you’re actually facing. Your vision blurs and as you spin around you can only make out three options; the first, the second, and the third, each one looking the same.
Raves: You venture north from the discarded furniture, making a slight diversion east before heading north once more. You then make a u-turn south and head that direction for a short while until you come across another clearing.
lilboocorsola: You head north from the maze’s entrance as the path quickly turns east and then north again. After a short walk, you come up on another split in the path…
PikaGod: You walk up the trail north of the armored statue. It is a straight shot for the most part, with a short bend to the east followed by an immediate corner to the west, and then resumes its north-south track. Up ahead is another clearing…
Emi, Lil’twick: Bewildered to where you’ve been sent to, you have little choice but to keep moving. You move to the south before the trail abruptly turns west, and it goes on for quite some distance. After a while of walking, the trail pulls a 180 and turns east. After another short distance of walking, the trail turns north into a clearing.
Sneaze: You head south at the fork in the road, becoming increasingly disoriented through the thick of the haze. The trail turns east, and after a while of walking it bends north. After another short while, the trail makes a u-turn and from south it turns west. Like a pendulum, it then turns north and makes another u-turn before going south then east once more. As you progress, you get a nauseating feeling in your stomach, and you stop for a rest before the path turns north once more. Dare you keep going or turn back?
Pearl’s Perap, Emp: You calmly press onward through the archway, and as you do so your vision begins to clear. You look around and see a man standing there waiting for you. It was none other than Professor Palm, who smiles and welcomes you. “Good work, you’re the first one through! Now, let’s wait here for the others, there’s still some time until the ritual begins!” Congratulations on making it through the maze! Please check back on October 31st for the conclusion of the event as well as rewards!
As someone clears the exit of the maze, a low growling hiss emits from the Disorienting Corridor as the area becomes more distorted.
~~~Locations~~~

Maze Entrance: (sixdragons)
As you step foot into the Maze of Shrubbery, you experience a strange sensation that you can’t quite trust your sense of direction anymore. There are three paths to traverse; to the East, to the West, and to the North.

Spooky Tree: (lilboocorsola)
As you enter the clearing, you are greeted by a rather sinister looking tree. Your options are East, West, or South back the way you came. It almost feels as if the tree is watching you, waiting to see your decision.

Fountain: (PikaGod)
A rather unremarkable clearing that’s sole feature is an old fountain. The water jets have long since ceased their functioning, but the basin is still filled with a murky water. A large pair of tentacles wiggle back and forth poking out of the water. Your options are North, East, West, or South.

Crown Statue: (Emi, Lil’twick)
A small clearing that’s only feature is a small regal-looking statue of a pointed crown. Your options are West, East, or South.

Dilapidated Shed: (Raves)
A clearing with an old decrepit gardening shed. Most of the old gardening tools are in a pile outside of it, rusted over. Your options are South, East, or North.

Disorienting Corridor: (ChrisClark13, Ironthunder)
A simple fork in the road, but a mysterious feeling completely blocks your perception of direction. Your options are the First pathway, the Second pathway, or the Third pathway. A trail of string seems to be going down the First pathway.

Maze Exit:
Maskerade
TheKnightsFury
Missingno. Master
myahoo
Connor
Zorchic
King Ghidorah
Pearl’s Perap
Emp

Somewhere within the maze a gruesome, ominous sound permeates the entire maze. It sounds like sloshing, or maybe scratching; it doesn’t sound natural so it’s hard to tell. Either way, it can’t be good. A cry roars throughout the garden; however you can’t tell if it’s laughing or shrieking.

Spoiler: show
As Jake and his Pokémon neared the exit, the path soon gave way to a moonlit clearing with an archway. A man stood in the clearing and congratulated the Trainer, introducing himself as Professor Palm. They had made it through the maze!

"A pleasure to make it here, Professor Palm!" Jake said cheerfully, before taking a deep breath. "I'm Jake Celeste, Aura Guardian-in-training. Even with my abilities, man, it was extremely difficult to get through the maze! Why, there was this murky fountain and annoying Inkay-slash-Malamar that kept disrupting us, then there was this notorious Murkrow who tricked some of my friends despite the promise of a reward, then there was this strange corridor that messed with our sense of direction!" he breathed, the words tumbling out of him as he explained the hidden troubles of the Maze of Shrubbery. Buizel, Lucario, and the blue Staravia nodded, confirming their Trainer's words.
"...but, I'm sure you already know that," the Trainer added quickly.

After everyone paused for a few seconds to catch their breath, Staravia landing for the third(?) time, Jake let the professor's words sink in and looked around. Other Trainers and their Pokémon were here too; no wonder he thought there was something wrong about what Professor Palm said.

"Hey..." the young Aura Guardian realized. "We're clearly not the first ones here. I appreciate you trying to make us feel good and accomplished, Professor, but with all due respect, what use is it if you're outright lying?" Jake continued, puzzled.

Suddenly, the clearing was lit up momentarily with the flash of a Teleport move. The four simultaneously turned their heads to the spot where it happened, but of course, there was nothing there, for whoever had been standing there mere seconds ago had vanished. Just then, however, Jake felt a buzzing in his pocket.

The Trainer took out his green and blue Pokédex and opened it, to see an alert popping out at him. He tapped it and started typing furiously, to the point where his Pokémon leaned over, trying to see what he was doing. In response, Jake blocked them with his arms. "Nothing you need to concern yourself about, guys," he assured them, to which they scooted away and sat idly.

After a minute or two, Jake put his Pokédex away, and got up with the intention to have one of his Pokémon use Teleport. Then, it dawned on him—none of his Pokémon knew Teleport! Upon realizing that very important fact, the young Aura Guardian panicked for a split second, before collecting himself just as quickly.

Lucario! Jake called mentally, using his and his Pokémon's aura abilities to their advantage. I've got an urgent errand to run! Mind if you do your Magnet Rise and Psychic thing? I need to head to the Global Trade Station. Don't ask.

The Aura Pokémon turned and nodded without question, surrounding himself with a yellow aura that lifted him into the air. Lucario waited for his Trainer to withdraw Buizel and Staravia quickly, before the Fighting/Steel-type's eyes glowed bright blue. Jake was quickly surrounded with the same blue glow, which lifted him into the air. Silently, the Trainer and Pokémon zoomed away from the clearing, making a beeline for the Fizzytopian shop after Jake found its location on his Pokédex map.

As Jake and Lucario landed, the former recalled the latter inside his Luxury Ball, before heading into the Global Trade Station.

~~~
Jake stepped out of the Global Trade Station, satisfied that he was able to help out a friend or two. He promptly took out Lucario's Luxury Ball once again and sent him out, having him utilize his Magnet Rise-Psychic combo to fly them both back to the Haunted Mansion.
It was only when returning to the maze clearing, flying overhead of the maze, that Jake noticed the cries and groans of other maze goers making their way through, as well as an ominous sound of sloshing or scraping coming from deep in the maze. The Aura Guardian was almost tempted to get back in there and rescue the others from the horrors and terrors present, but common sense dictated that that was not worth getting himself in danger, especially not when the mysterious sound was prowling about. Jake and Lucario touched down safely in the clearing after the exit of the maze, before hearing yet another mysterious sound—a strange cry echoing through the garden.
The two brushed themselves off, looking around anxiously. What do we do now? Lucario asked. And did you hear that?
"You know I heard that cry," replied Jake. "And that weird scraping noise in the maze, too. I'd say it's a warning that the Pumpkasaur ritual is about to begin, so let's wait for that start of that."
Right, right, nodded Lucario as he and his Trainer sat down on the grass expectantly.
Prefacing this with "I suck at art"
I've been brainstorming for awhile, and I've finished my (fairly crappy) Fizzytopian Ivysaur and Venusaur designs
Spicysaur
Spoiler: show
Spoiler: show
Ivysaur, Fizzytopia forme aka "Spicysaur"
Grass/Poison
Evolves from Pumpkasaur at Level 16
Sw: It uses its speared vine to swing from tree to tree by night, chasing its its prey until they collapse of exhaustion. Its pumpkin face gives it an excellent field of night vision.
Sh: From the spear point on its main vine, it secretes a toxin that acts as a stimulant. Inexplicably, some humans drink coffee beverages based around it.
Vinusaur
Spoiler: show
Spoiler: show
Venusaur, Fizzytopian forme, aka "Vinusaur"
Grass/Dark
Evolves from Spicysaur at Level 32
Sw: The pumpkin mind is now the dominant of the pair. The pumpkin is said to grow in size and power with every soul it consumes. Its vines have been recorded as easily extending over 10 meters in length.
Sh: It has evolved into an ambush predator, using its intoxicating scent to lure prey into its sticky-sweet vine traps, and then shoved into the Jack-O-Lantern gullet.
