Willa smiled, watching her man take charge of the situation. "I knew he could keep a cool head," she murmured.

"Oh, yes," Chuck nodded in agreement. "Moves like that, a clever strategy. Why, I believe that's both Nasty Plots dealt with right there," he added as the final attack landed. "Now to just hope that's enough. This isn't over yet..."

"Yes," nodded Willa, peering intently at the TV screen. "They got rid of the Nasty Plot boosts, but that Gengar was powerful enough without them..."

~~~~~
Keith beamed as everyone got what he was getting at. Struggle Bug, Snarl, Mystical Fire- three different moves with one very important detail in common- they all lowered the target's Special Attack. And with everyone working together, Gengar's Special Attack boosts were gone as soon as they came.
But they weren't out of the woods yet- Gengar's attack, while not supercharged, were still hitting pretty hard. Three different Pokémon went down, one to each attack, but Scorpius remained untouched. Better than before, in fact, as the Vullaby's Trainer sent some Dynamax Energy his way, healing off the damage he'd taken previously. Refreshed and reenergized, the Drapion stood at the ready, clicking his claws, ready for the command.
And Keith didn't leave him waiting for long. No more shields- Gengar was vulnerable, and now was the time to strike, hard and fast. "Go, Scorpius! Now use Crunch!" Keith commanded, his Drapion scuttling forward at once, ready to sink his teeth into this gargantuan grinning ghost.
OOC: Scorpius used Crunch (80 BP).
Sixdragons, Gible: 300 HP. {Aegis of Frost [25% Def]} (Sp. Att -1)
ChrisClark13, Vulpix: 300 HP.
With a devastating round behind them, the raiders put their heads together in a scheme to stop the Gengar from a repeat performance, and as a trio of cheers fully heal the two injured pokemon up, the plan goes into action, with the Houndoom's ability activated by a stray Ember from the Vulpix, and as the Ogre Scorp and land shark deliver two strong super effective blows, the Rapidash uses the last of its Dynamax energy into blasting the spectre with a proper Max Flare, no shields deflecting it now, and with the sun shining the Houndoom charges forth with an infernal Flare Blitz, doing tremendous damage to the Gigantamax pokemon, while suffering considerable damage in recoil.
The Gengar is taken aback by the sheer recklessness of the dark type's attack, and frowns deeply at such actions, tutting as it ends up having the very same move negated. However, the active sun is not to his liking, and with a wiggle of the arms the Gengar's Cursed Body appears to become a little more corporeal. Indeed, as it plays the role, the phantom copies the canine's Flash Fire ability, though it is little more a case of trying to remain alive rather than any menace with how powerful that Flare Blitz was, and the very impact has left the ghost mentally shaken, both counter attacks impacting mostly harmlessly off the Rapidash, and as the horse shrinks back to regular size they're a little unsteady on their feet, from the Focus Blast and G-Max Terror. Gengar's on the ropes, yet the countless voices appear to be chastising the Houndoom for such a stupid and dangerous move...
Dynamax Initiative: Expired.
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Tuesday, 25th August to place your order.
Absences:
Sixdragons: 1.
Chuck and Willa winced as they witnessed the Flare Blitz landing. "Ooh, I almost felt that," chuckled Chuck. "Gengar took massive damage from that.
"Indeed," Willa agreed. "Though it appears to be using Role Play again," she added.
"Oh, yes," nodded Keith's Gengar. "Oh, they certainly can't capitalize on the sun anymore. A shame, too- I know for a fact Scorpius considers his Flamethrower to be his special attack."
"Ah, but I don't think they'll need to," Willa noted, regarding the battle with interest. "Gengar's back to its original typing by now- Scorpius's Dark moves are just what they need anyway."
~~~~~

"Well, looks like we won't be going for your special attack, Scorpius," Keith remarked as Gengar went for Role Play, copying Houndoom's Flash Fire.

"Draaap," sighed Scorpius. He loved getting to use Flamethrower, and Keith knew it.

"Ah, don't sweat it," Keith said encouragingly. "Gengar's back to its original typing, don't forget- your Dark moves are just what we need anyway!"

"Drap draaaap!" nodded Scorpius. Keith was absolutely right- Dark moves were the way to go here, sun or no sun. Already the Drapion was pumped up, ready to help them get the win here.

"Then let's wrap this up!" Keith declared, gesturing forwad. "Scorpius, use Throat Chop!"

"Doraaaaaaaaaaap!" bellowed Scorpius, lunging right at the Gigantamax Gengar, claws on his right arm aglow with a vicious black aura. Even if the enemy didn't have much of a discernible throat to actually aim for, this was gonna hit hard in any case.

OOC: Scorpius used Throat Chop (80 BP).

Shadow Ball (80 BP, may lower Special Defense one stage)

- - -

Curtis's fake bravado quickly turned real as he watched the gargantuan Gengar reel back from the Houndoom's explosive attack. As he felt the shockwave generated by the impact brush back against him, a maniacal grin quickly appeared on his face. Having snatched back a chance at victory from the jaws of defeat, his heart was racing so much he could feel the pounding of blood in his veins. This, this kind of moment right here was what Pokemon battling was all about!

"Hahahaha! How'd ya like that ya spooky ghost!?" The fox-trainer started laughing aloud as he saw the Gengar act to save itself from a repeat performance of what had just happened before just flailing about and sending attacks every which way that didn't even drop anyone! The Gengar was on the ropes now and it knew it, everyone knew it!

What only made the situation better was that all the Pokemon that had been knocked out were now back up!

Curtis thrust arm out forward out at the Gigantamax Gengar and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Now everyone! Give it all you've got! Let's send this thing back to where it came from!!" A little less louder, he then also shouted, "Annahime! Give this big sack of hot air the best Shadow Ball you've got!"

"Pix!" Annahime barked in confirmation. Having seen the sheer absurd levels of power behind that Houndoom's attack, she was now confident that they could do this! Her heart started pounding as well as the taste of her impending victory made it as if she couldn't hear the spooky whispers of the demon in front of her anymore. Her eyes glowed light red with power as she conjured up a ball of shadowy, ghostly energy in front of her snout. With an overdramatic spin sent it flying right at the demon's face!

Gigantamax Boss Gengar
★★★★★

Health Gauge: 0%
Shields Up: 0.
Status: FAINTED.

Raid Challengers

Sneaze, Houndoom: 252 HP. {Flametongue [+25% Physical Fire damage]} (Poisoned, Sp. Att -1, Sealed: Flare Blitz (1 turn))
Slash, Mightyena: 300 HP. {Blackglasses [+20% Dark damage]} (Fully recovered)
Missingno. Master, Drapion: 400 HP.
Meetan, Sableye: 500 HP. (Fully recovered)
CrazyCreeperKid, Vullaby: 300 HP. (Fully recovered)
Prof. Enigma, Rapidash: 180 HP. {Devil Horns [+20% Fire damage]}
Sixdragons, Gible: 300 HP. {Aegis of Frost [25% Def]} (Sp. Att -1)
ChrisClark13, Vulpix: 300 HP.

On the ropes, the raiders launch into a full-scale assault upon their oversized adversary, without fear of repercussions from Cursed Body. The two Dark type canines and Drapion slam into it with physical moves, a raking Shadow Claw scrapes across its flank, an orb of shadowy energy is kicked with great force by the Vulpix, the earth erupts beneath it and the Rapidash stamps forth down on his head, but it is the Dark Pulse from the Vullaby that appears to be enough to cause the swirling clouds above the ghost's head to begin to dissipate, and as the group readies themselves...

"Nope."

Seemingly about to collapse, the Gengar somehow hangs in there, a mere sliver of consciousness left in it as it readies a counter-assault against all odds, unintelligible mess of voices once more emanating with negativity upon the raiders, but the phantom appears to be hesitating, and as soon as the voices of the underworld begin their chatter, the Gengar stops preparing his attack and raises a metaphorical eyebrow in puzzlement, before closing his mouth and shifting his arms in front of him, forming some sort of letter.

"Time out for a sec, I gotta take this call."

A couple of tense moments pass as the Gigantamax pokemon appears to converse with itself, expression unchanging save for the occasional eyebrow raise, and a couple of odd words escape its maw. Deepening. Steadfast. Galahad. Operation. It's only a brief moment later when the ghost turns back to the raiders and points a finger at them and fists the ground a little, as if wishing to finish pulverizing the group, that one deep voice booms out seemingly from within the very heart of the ghost, its power shaking everyone present and watching to the core.

"NO."

A bit of irritated debate later, the Gengar looks down at the group, at its swirling clouds, and sighs.

"Tch, fine. Wasn't winning this fight anyways."

And with that the Gigantamax Gengar promptly shrinks down to a regular sized ghost, shrugs and literally pulls a number of items from the depths of its body via its mouth before unceremoniously dumping them in the middle of the lakebed.

"Boss says I tested you kiddies enough, and that there's bigger things coming your way. Much as I'd have liked to carry on, gotta know when to fold 'em," one small voice mutters from the dejected spook as it casually sinks into the ground, seemingly to return from whence it came and leaving several questions unanswered, and the completely clueless shrug from the gym leader only leaves these queries in the air. For now, it was time to celebrate.

For their role in defeatingmaking the Gigantamax Gengar give up, the trainers are awarded the following:

  • 50 Watts
  • TR Sludge Wave
  • x2 Kasib Berries
  • X1 Kebia Berry
  • +5 Levels to Participating Pokemon (5 Rare Candies if the pokemon is level 100)

This was it, the final assault! Everyone worked together, launched their various powerful attacks, slammed the Gigantamax Gengar with everything they had... Gengar held on, started preparing a counterattack?! Keith's mouth fell open in disbelief, but before Gengar could actually do anything, something seemed to have its attention. Something nobody present could actually perceive for themselves. Almost hilariously, Gengar called for a time out, and seemed to converse himself. A few words were uttered, none of which anyone had any context for, and after a while, Gengar turned back to the group, pounding the ground with a fist. And then came a deep, booming voice, with such power and authority behind it that even those watching on TV were shaken to the core, uttering the singular word; "NO."

Not long after this, Gengar conceded defeat, admitting that it wasn't winning this fight in any case, and shrunk back down to the size and shape of a normal Gengar. It pulled a number of items out of itself and scattered them haphazardly before it on the lakebed, before ominously stating that it had tested them enough, that there were bigger things coming their way. With that said, Gengar sunk into the ground and was gone.

"...Drap?" Scorpius said, breaking the silence.

"...I don't even," Keith shrugged. "I... guess we won?

~~~~~
Once Keith had collected his rewards and headed home, he was greeted by his fiancé at the door. "I was watching the news coverage," Willa said with a small smile. "You were amazing."
"Thanks, Willa," Kwith replied, and although he smiled at this, Willa could see something in his eyes nevertheless.
"...Chuck was telling me about the powers Gigantamax Gengar possess," she stated intently. "Told me that it was entirely possible it was making you hear things. Is that what's bothering you?"
Keith gave a sigh and a chuckle. "You're good, y'know that?" he said. "Uh... do we got any tea-" he began.
"I got some started when the news broadcast ended," Willa interrupted with a small smirk. "It should be ready now." Following this, Keith went into the living room, while Willa returned to the kitchen, returning a minute later with two mugs of hot tea.
"Thanks," Keith said gratefully, accepting his mug of tea. He and Willa sat down beside each other, and once the tea was cool enough to feasibly take a sip, Keith did just that. "...so, yeah, Chuck was right- at the beginning of the fight, I was hearing all these voices from the Gigantamax Gengar," Keith began. "I... I knew they couldn't be real- like, I was hearing Helena's voice once or twice, but obviously, not really her," he chuckled, gesturing in the general direction of the Sludge Wave Coast Pokémon Center, where the blue-eyed Banette had been working all day.
"I'm guessing that wasn't the only voice?" Willa said gently.
Keith shook his head. "...I heard Coselle," he said quietly. "Saying all sorts of things. About how she and I were supposed to love each other forever, how could I dare move on... reminding me of all the... of all the stupid mistakes I'd made with her... just..." It was at this point Willa put an arm around Keith, which he seemed to appreciate, as the tears threatened to leak from his eyes. "I mean... I know it wasn't really her, but... it just... it's like that Gengar knew exactly what buttons to press, how best to screw with my head..."
"And yet," Willa said gently, "you persevered, managed to keep your head on straight, and helped rally everyone together to emerge victorious."
But Keith didn't look too comforted by this. "...after the voices had stopped," he said quietly. "I... I came to realize... that even though it was, on some level, nice to hear her voice again... I realized that... if giving up what I have now would somehow magically bring her back... I... I wouldn't do it." Seemingly shaken by his own words, Keith sat there in stunned silence for a second, then burst into tears, at which point Willa pulled Keith into a hug. "I... I feel- I feel ho-horrible j-just saying it, b-but it's true," Keith sniveled. "It's- it's true..."
"It's alright," Willa whispered, holding Keith close throughout this. "Keith, it's OK. You are not horrible," she said. They sat there in relative silence for a few minutes longer, in each other's arms, until Keith started to calm down a bit.
"...I mean it, though," he said to Willa. "I wouldn't give you up for anything. I love you, Willa."
"I love you too, Keith," Willa said with a small smile.
"And... I'm not horrible?" Keith asked in a small voice. "I mean... All the mistakes I made with Coselle, I know you know about them, I never kept them from you... But sometimes, I think about them, and I... sometimes I'm not sure whether I deserve someone like you," he admitted, looking down.
Willa gently moved Keith's head so he was looking into her eyes. "What you've done is in the past," she said. "And it's clear to me you've learned from the mistakes you've made. You are a good man, Keith Masters, and there is nobody else in the world I would rather get married to."
Following this, all further discussion on the matter was thoroughly nonverbal as the couple continued to embrace, occasionally sipping their tea before it could get too cold. And invisible to everyone else, Chuck smiled as he observed the whole thing. He had a feeling he wasn't going to be trying to get the Gigantamax Factor anytime soon, but for right now, he was content to see what this experience had ultimately done for his Trainer.
*Obtained 50 Watts!*
*Keith received a TR78 Sludge Wave!*
"Nope."
Seemingly about to collapse, the Gengar somehow hangs in there, a mere sliver of consciousness left in it as it readies a counter-assault against all odds, unintelligible mess of voices once more emanating with negativity upon the raiders, but the phantom appears to be hesitating, and as soon as the voices of the underworld begin their chatter, the Gengar stops preparing his attack and raises a metaphorical eyebrow in puzzlement, before closing his mouth and shifting his arms in front of him, forming some sort of letter.
"Time out for a sec, I gotta take this call."
A couple of tense moments pass as the Gigantamax pokemon appears to converse with itself, expression unchanging save for the occasional eyebrow raise, and a couple of odd words escape its maw. Deepening. Steadfast. Galahad. Operation. It's only a brief moment later when the ghost turns back to the raiders and points a finger at them and fists the ground a little, as if wishing to finish pulverizing the group, that one deep voice booms out seemingly from within the very heart of the ghost, its power shaking everyone present and watching to the core.
"NO."
A bit of irritated debate later, the Gengar looks down at the group, at its swirling clouds, and sighs.
"Tch, fine. Wasn't winning this fight anyways."
And with that the Gigantamax Gengar promptly shrinks down to a regular sized ghost, shrugs and literally pulls a number of items from the depths of its body via its mouth before unceremoniously dumping them in the middle of the lakebed.
"Boss says I tested you kiddies enough, and that there's bigger things coming your way. Much as I'd have liked to carry on, gotta know when to fold 'em," one small voice mutters from the dejected spook as it casually sinks into the ground, seemingly to return from whence it came and leaving several questions unanswered, and the completely clueless shrug from the gym leader only leaves these queries in the air. For now, it was time to celebrate.
Apologies for bumping a dead thread but trying to get on top of my book keeping and never picked these up. Collecting all of these goodies.
Teaching TR Sludge Wave to my Tynamo, Lisa, who's at 50 bond.
Two levels takes Jasper from level 98 to 100, with three candies leftover. Thanks!
