Missingno.Master- You'd pulled of a rouse of your own. Sure, Mawile would be more comfortable on land than in the water, but that didn't mean she was completely incapable either! You'd taught the infamous Keith Masters how to swim, of course your Pokemon could swim, even a Steel type like Mawile! Was she as good of a swimmer as a Water type like Blastoise? Hell no, but she didn't need to be.

You give Mawile the go ahead. She knew that you intended for her to use Spit Up, she just needed to pick the right time. "Hydro Pump it, then slam into it with an Earthquake!" Blastoise takes aim with its cannons, firing a powerful torrent of water from each. The high pressure water slams into Mawile, forcing her back through the water, right back up onto the river bank. Mawile raises her jaws, preparing her shot. Blastoise surges forward, moving with incredible pace thanks to its Shell Smash boost. The Shellfish Pokemon slams into the bank as Mawile fires the stockpiled energy from her jaws. Blastoise is struck, while Mawile is thrown around violently by the Earthquake. The attack is so powerful that you're thrown off your feet, almost slamming into the ground before Yanmega catches you. As you find your feet, you notice that Mawile is barely standing on the bank, while Blastoise is lying face down in the water, unconscious. Mawile must have landed a critical hit!

Kade is furious for a moment, but then he calms himself, a smile spreading across his face. "Return Blastoise", he recalls the fallen Starter into its Lure Ball. "Well, this is what you've been waiting for isn't it? My final Pokemon? Well here it is!" Kade tosses out his final Lure Ball, revealing his final Pokemon to be...............

Spoiler: show
Mawile did not attack right away, but Willa was fine with this; they had one shot, after all, and they had to make it count. Blastoise wasn't making it easy, either, between the Hydro Pump, and the Earthquake so mighty that Willa herself almost toppled over, and would have done so had Yanmega not acted swiftly and grabbed her in time. "Whew. Thank you," Willa murmured to Yanmega as she regained her balance.

Mawile, meanwhile, had gotten her shot after all, as Willa saw for herself; though the Deceiver Pokémon was just barely still standing, Blastoise wasn't standing at all, totally unconscious as it floated in the water. They'd done it! They'd made it past Kade's other five Pokémon- it was Sharpedo time!

But Kade was smiling. An odd action for someone hopelessly cornered and caught in a lie, but one that made much more sense once he threw his sixth and final Lure Ball, the occupant of which got Willa going for her Pokédex as she tried desperately to keep her face impassive.

"Swampert, the Mud Fish Pokémon. A Water and Ground-type, and the evolved form of Marshtomp. Boasting enough power to easily drag a boulder weighing over a ton, Swampert's powerful vision allows it to see in murky water."

Swampert. It was a Swampert. Kade's last Pokémon was a Swampert. Slowpoke, Cramorant, Cradily, Octillery, Blastoise, and Swampert- nope, that was all six, Willa hadn't miscounted. She couldn't believe it. That sack of crap had been telling the truth all along. This entire battle had been a colossal waste of time- Gertrude or whatever her name really is was probably long gone by this point.

Mawile was likewise astonished by this turn of events, and unlike her Trainer, was quite bad at hiding it. Both mouths fell open in sheer disbelief, and more than a little anger, for the Steel/Fairy-type had been looking forward to some forceful and vicious revenge.

"...I am a Trainer of my word," Willa finally said. "It's clear to me now that you were actually telling the truth, and so I apologize for suspecting you," she stated. "However, if you think we're about to ease up on you at this point in the battle, then you would be sadly mistaken," she continued. "Mawile-"

"Maw maw! Mawile maw!" interrupted Mawile, and as she and Willa exchanged looks, Willa understood immediately; Mawile wanted to save her energy for where it would be needed most, and in any case, she was at quite the disadvantage against Swampert. Blastoise had been bad enough, but against an actual Ground-type? That was just stupid.

Willa gave a small nod, holding out the Ultra Ball. "Come back now, Mawile!" she declared, withdrawing the Deceiver Pokémon. "Thank you," she murmured to the Ultra Ball in her hand. "You were magnificent. Now rest." Then, turning her steely sharp glare back upon Kade and Swampert, Willa gestured forward. "Yanmega, attack!" she ordered her faithful starter.

"Yan ya!" rumbled Yanmega. Wings fluttering fast, Yanmega zoomed forth, aiming first to tie up Swampert with String Shot, and then go for Shadow Storm followed by a devastating Giga Drain.

Missingno.Master- You were a woman of your word, you'd wrongly accused Kade and promptly apologise. This brings an indescribable amount of joy to the ace fisherman, but you'd be quick to wipe the smile off his face once you beat him! You call Mawile back, sending out Yanmega instead. The switch gives Kade time to prepare though...

"Dodge it by Diving into the water!" Kade shouts, "then set us up another Rain Dance!" Sure enough, as quick as Yanmega is to fire the String Shot, Swampert is just as quick to react. The Mud fish dives into the water, completely avoiding the sticky silk. Moments later it bursts back into sight, slamming into Yanmega from below, sending the Bug back flipping through the air. Yanmega rights itself, taking aim and battering Swampert with a Shadow Storm! The Shadow typed attack is effective, driving the Water/Ground type back into the water with force. Swampert brings the real storm though, with a clap of its mighty hands it summons a thick blanket of storm clouds. Droplets rain down like bullets, this rain seems much heavier than that summoned by Cramorant earlier, perhaps a sign of how strong Kade's Swampert really is.....

Yanmega zips in, tendrils of grass energy extending, ready to drain the energy from his opponent. "Protect!" Kade quickly orders and Swampert tosses up a protective screen, halting what have been a super effective assault from Yanmega. Yanmega lets out a disapproving groan, but is feeling quicker as his speed boost ability kicks in. If he could stay in this fight long enough, his speed would be hard to beat!

"You don't think I was prepared for a Grass type move?" Kade comments, "I doubt you're prepared for this though!" Kade whips out his fishing rod, turning it so that you can see the reel and the Key Stone he has set in it. You hadn't noticed until now, but Swampert had a band wrapped around its arm, with a blue and orange stone set in it. Both stones begin to glow, tendrils of energy shoot out from them and begin to twist and intertwine. "Now Swampert, feel the strength of our bond. Let the energy and adrenaline flood your body. Time to get swole and Mega Evolve!"

Speed was easily Yanmega's strong point, but the act of switching Mawile out in the first place gave Kade and Swampert the time they needed- by Diving into the water, Swampert was able to evade the String Shot. Dive struck Yanmega, but he fought back with a super effective Shadow Storm, but the Giga Drain was blocked by Protect- Kade was ready for the possibility of a Grass move. Willa was not fazed by this- Yanmega was, even as the Giga Drain failed, getting a significant Boost to his Speed, and he'd only get faster from there. And Swampert's Rain Dance took effect, summoning far heavier rainfall than Cramorant had been able to do- a clear indicator of Swampert's power, at least Willa assumed.

And she, as it turned out, was quite right to assume it, for Kade's next move was to reveal the Key Stone set into the reel of his fishing rod. At the same time, Willa noticed the band on Swampert's arm. The band with the stone set into it. The Mega Stone. Indeed, Kade's Swampert Mega Evolved before their eyes, and Willa was very quickly beholding the tremendously powerful form of Mega Swampert.

Willa had already known by now that Kade and his Pokémon were no joke, but to see that point being proven by Mega Evolution of all things, that drove the point home like nothing else could- Kade might be an insufferable cocky jerk, but he was a talented insufferable cocky jerk. Willa knew about Mega Evolution and knew it well. As an Ace Trainer from Kalos, and the daughter of Diantha, no less, how could she not? Mega Evolution was serious, strong stuff- she and Yanmega were in for quite a fight here!

But it was more than that- Willa knew about various individual Mega Evolutions, not just the process itself. This might have been her first time seeing a Swampert in person, Mega Evolved or otherwise, but that didn't mean she didn't know exactly what Kade was looking to achieve with Rain Dance beyond just powering up Swampert's Water attacks. Mega Swampert might look quite slow, weighed down with those impressively muscular arms, but Willa knew that this thing was a deceptively Swift Swimmer. And with Yanmega's Speed Boost only just beginning to kick in, it might not yet be enough. They had to act fast so they had time to get faster.

"Yanmega! Double Team!" Willa commanded.

"Yan ya!" rumbled Yanmega, hastily splitting into countless copies in midair.

"Now! Icy Wind and Giga Drain!" Willa ordered. She had to think on her feet here, account for anything she figured Kade might attempt, but thus far she felt like she was doing a good job of that.

Sunflora Cloud Garden - o5

Rose Garden

Slash: Oh shucks, the poor juicer just couldn’t catch a break! Just as soon as you had fended off the rabid critters, you had another much bigger problem on your hands in a runaway Bewear. Without a moment to lose you spring into action, although with the rosebushes obscuring your view it seemed impossible to pin the thief’s whereabouts... Not for your new friend, Cutiefly! You smartly call on the Bee Fly Pokemon’s aide, its heightened sense of smell what brought you together in the first place. The Cutiefly buzzes affirmatively, its elongated sniffer pointing upward until it locks onto the pungent, fruity aroma once more. The bug flits into chase, deftly veering through the tangles of bushes and flowers as your party clumsily amble in tow, taking care not to further damage the rose bushes.

The pursuit goes on for a few minutes until you break into a field of lavender, the cloying smell working to throw off the Cutiefly who was now darting aimlessly in all directions. Fortunately, the Bewear was back in your peripheral, no longer fully obscured with the neatly kempt lavender bushes only sprouting as high as it’s waist. Shuckle’s arms were flapping as he yelled out in your direction, although it was hard to tell if he was distressed or excited, seemingly enjoying the intoxicated joyride. Cutiefly was homing in fast but the Bewear wasn’t going to let its prize go without a fight, batting the bug out of the air with a Flail of its arm! You rush to the fallen ally’s aide, the Pokemon taken surprise by the power of the hit but buzzing back to a hover quick enough. A burning determination had ignited in its pixel-shaped eyes, it was going to help you take down the bandit! If you wanted to win over the Cutiefly, this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. But it would need a teammate to even the odds, perhaps Illuminise could offer a helping hand?

Cutiefly wants to work together! Feel free to command any move it is capable of learning naturally

Missingno.Master- Well educated when it comes to Mega Evolution, you know that Kade had Swampert setup Rain Dance to activate its Swift Swim ability once it Mega Evolved. While Yanmega would take time to speed up, the rain would give Mega Swampert an instant boost, not to mention the increased damage from its Water type moves! Knowing you need to buy yourself time, you order Yanmega to spread out with a Double Team.

"Not so fast, knock them down with Rock Slide!" Kade shouts the counter and Swampert gets to work. As soon as a clone pops up, Swampert hurls a boulder at it, its powerful arms and boosted speed make for an astonishing display. As quick as Yanmega is to create a clone, Mega Swampert is just as quick to destroy it! A rock whizzes through the air, striking the real Yanmega, causing the Bug to let out a pained cry. That stung, really stung.

Changing tact, Yanmega looks to slow his opponent down, wings buzzing he whips up a chilling Icy Wind. "You're really out of your depth now I'm afraid", Kade mocks, "cloak yourself in a Water Pulse." What?! You watch as Swampert quickly gathers water around itself. The outside of the watery shroud freezes as it is struck by the Icy Wind, hardening and encasing Swampert in a thin ball of icy. Yanmega darts in to attempt a Giga Drain once more, but quickly realises there is a problem. Swampert is encased in ice! He extends the tendrils, which slowly begin to break through, but by the time they work through the makeshift shield, they struggle to steal much vitality from the Mega Evolved Pokemon. "I was actually taking it pretty easy on you up until now", Kade brags, "I could have finished you a while ago, but then I wouldn't have gotten to see your face when you realised you were wrong about me", Kade's chest shakes as he laughs. Yanmega feels his speed boost again, he was struggling after that Rock Slide, but his speed was equal to that of Swampert now! "Roar", Kade orders and Swampert lets out a tremendous bellow. The sound waves are so intense that Yanmega is forced to retreat back into his ball! So much for those speed boosts! Swampert flexes his muscles, how would you overcome this beast?!

Willa's face remained impassive as ever, and it took a more monumental effort than ever before to keep it that way, because on the inside she was a total wreck; Kade had complete control of the battle by now and the smug bastard knew it, too. The Double Team? Shot down by a super fast Rock Slide- Yanmega wasn't able to generate copies fast enough, and ultimately took a super effective hit in the process. Kade actually used the Icy Wind to his advantage, having Swampert cloak itself in a Water Pulse, which the Icy Wind froze solid, creating a barrier that prevented the Giga Drain from having its full effect! And to top it all off, Mega Swampert let out a fearsome Roar that sent Yanmega back into his Ultra Ball, and caused Mawile to emerge from hers. "Maw... Mawile!" Mawile declared, very quickly realizing she'd been sent right back into battle, and doing her best to Intimidate her opponent.

Willa said nothing, taking deep breaths to try and calm herself. She would not give Kade the satisfaction of knowing he was getting to her. She had to remain calm, composed. She had to try and win this, even in the face of such seemingly insurmountable odds. But Mawile was a sitting Ducklett here- not only would Kade now know that she wasn't completely helpless in water, so the earlier ruse wouldn't work twice, but it was also pretty much a guarantee that Mega Swampert was a better swimmer than Mawile by far. Combine all that with the horrible type matchup, and Willa knew Mawile could kiss her hit points goodbye. And as if all that weren't enough, forcing Yanmega out of the battle completely undid everything Speed Boost had accomplished! Once she'd send Yanmega back out, they'd be right back at square one. Hell, not even, considering the major damage Yanmega had taken from that Rock Slide.

So what was there to do? Ranged attacks again? Mawile didn't exactly have the greatest selection of those. Plus, now Fire Blast would also have the rain to contend with, so that was even worse off. And if Yanmega couldn't outspeed Mega Swampert, no way in hell could Mawile hope to.

...but did it need to? Willa considered this- she'd seen her mother's Mega Gardevoir in action enough times to know that sometimes there was just no outspeeding an opponent. To know that sometimes a more defensive approach was necessary. But with all the damage Mawile had taken when battling Blastoise, was this even feasible? Willa didn't know. But what she did know was that if Mawile had any sort of chance here, this was it. "Do your best, Mawile," she said quietly.

"Maw," murmured Mawile, nodding in response, eyeing up Mega Swampert. She could tell this situation was decidedly dire, but was determined to do her best for her Trainer all the same.

"Now, use Taunt," Willa stated. "This fight will be on our terms moving forward."

"Mawwww! Wiiiile!" Mawile called out mockingly to Swampert, hoping to enrage it. She knew exactly what Willa's latest statement meant, especially with how things went against Blastoise; namely, having to work with the need to stick to ranged attacks. No more of that, Mawile knew- if Swampert tried any such moves, Mawile intended to repel them with Fairy Wind. Or a good jump, in the case of another Earthquake- against a Ground-type, that was a very valid possibility. Either way, the aim was to get Swampert to be the one to close the gap, and once that happened, Mawile would be ready to strike with a forceful Play Rough!

Missingno.Master- Swampert had forced your hand, dragging Mawile back into the fray as Yanmega is forced to retreat. The Steel/Fairy had already taken a tonne of damage from its dealings with Blastoise, could she really stand in the way of Swampert? She was at a type disadvantage and it was fair to say that she was also drastically out muscled. Her only hope was to go on the defensive, it had paid off against Blastoise, surely she can manage it again here.

She leads off by taunting the Swampert, it wouldn't be going on the defensive any time soon. Unfortunately, this has the downside of enraging the rippling wall of muscle. Mega Swampert must have been reading his trainer's mind, because as soon as Kade goes to open his mouth, Swampert takes off. Fists shrouded in a stream of water, Mega Swampert glides effortlessly through the water, closing the gap in an instant. Mawile's jaws snap open as she tries to hold the Mega Pokemon back with her Fairy Wind. The wind fails to halt the momentum of the Waterfall. Swampert crashes into Mawile with sickening speed, driving her into the river bank. As it jumps back, you're saddened to see that Mawile has been knocked unconscious. She lies motionless in a smaller crater, her Intimidating presences wasn't enough to stop the muscular mega.

Mawile is unconscious! Mawile gained 3 levels!

"Now it's just one on one, but you've got to admit, this battle is all but mine now", Kade brags, somewhat ahead of himself....

Sadly, the outcome did not surprise Willa. She didn't fault Mawile for this by any stretch of the imagination- Mawile had been pushed to damn near her limit as it was already, and it was at a distinct disadvantage against Swampert in the first place, Mega Evolved or otherwise. Mawile was totally knocked out by Swampert's powerful Waterfall, further powered up by the rain. Intimidate was a factor, for certain, but it wasn't nearly enough to give Mawile a fighting chance. Wordlessly, Willa withdrew Mawile. "You fought bravely, my friend. Thank you very much," Willa said softly to the sphere in her hand, before putting away the Ultra Ball. She did not deign to respond to Kade's cockiness. He was right insofar as the fight being down to one on one, but as far as Willa was concerned, that was it. Things seemed rather grim at the moment, but Willa wasn't about to concede defeat. Spewpa, despite not having much power yet, did her best and even beat that Slowpoke all on her own. Eelektross fought with everything it had, and though he wasn't able to overcome a distinctly unfavorable type matchup, it could not be said that he didn't try. Lapras, knowing firsthand how important this was to Willa and the rest of the team, was relentless, managing to overcome both Cradily and Octillery, and even putting up a great fight against Cramorant before going down. Decidueye was able to take out Cramorant despite a type disadvantage, and fought valiantly against Blastoise. And Mawile didn't let such things as a slightly unfavorable battlefield deter her, and did not hesitate to get back into the fray even with such an extreme disadvantage in health, type, and overall physical condition. And Yanmega... well... Willa knew better than to underestimate her starter, the Pokémon she'd had from the start, since long before she left Kiloude City. The bond of trust between Willa and Yanmega was absolute, and the former's faith in the latter's battle capabilities was far from misplaced.

Willa's gaze was intense as she regarded Kade and Swampert, the latter a seemingly insurmountable obstacle. But this was not so- the effects of Speed Boost were going to be seriously beneficial to them, and Kade knew this- Willa knew he'd known this ever since he commanded that Roar. She clutched the Ultra Ball in her hand, determined to end this once and for all as she threw it forward. "Yanmega!" she declared.

In a flash of light, the Bug/Flying-type reappeared. "Yan ya!" he rumbled, eyeing Mega Swampert once more. They weren't in the best of positions right now, but Yanmega wasn't about to give up so easily. He'd seen most of the battle take place, and he'd heard the latest bit through his Ultra Ball, so he was up to speed by this point. He knew he was his Trainer's last hope in this fight, and he wasn't about to let her down.

Willa gestured forward. "Attack now!" she commanded.

"Yan!" rumbled Yanmega, who was off at once, darting forward, before making a sharp turn and proceeding to Fly high up into the air, out of range of attacks. His hope was to go into a Double Team before beginning his descent, and maybe even finally land a Giga Drain this time. He knew Mawile had landed Taunt earlier, so at least there was no Protect to worry about this time. Of course, that didn't make this foolproof, but then again, was anything really gonna achieve that? Probably not. So Yanmega would settle for as close to foolproof as he could get, and he knew Willa would, too. All that remained was... well, hoping that this works.

Missingno.Master- Down to your final Pokemon, you send Yanmega out to face Mega Swampert once more. The Bug immediately sores upward, looking to put as much distance between it and Swampert as it can. Your plan was simple, get high, get fast, get prepared. With Swampert taunted, it would simply have to wait for you to descend, right?

Wrong. "There are still ways to prepare, even when taunted. Swampert, work yourself up with Power-Up Punches!" Kade had found a loop hole. While Yanmega begun to create more Double Team clones, Mega Swampert begun pounding the ground with its fists, its physical strength increasing with every strike. Having amassed a small army of clones, Yanmega drops down from above, his swarm diving like kamikaze pilots. "You know what to do Swampert, knock em out of the skies with Rock Slide!" Stones rain upward, smashing clone after clone, but Yanmega is closing in. His preparation paying off, Yanmega unleashes his Giga Drain, extending tendrils to drain energy from Swampert. The Mega Pokemon catches the tendrils on its left arm, gritting its teeth as it feels its energy being drained at an alarming rate. With a yank of its arm it drags Yanmega in closer and with a swift motion, it slugs the bug with a rock grasped in its right hand. The Bug lets out a tremendous screech, that attack had completely undone the healing he'd achieved. Spinning away, he can feel his speed increase, but it isn't enough. "Grapple it with Waterfall!" Kade shouts and Swampert bursts forward, slamming into Yanmega. Its powerful arms wrap the Bug in a painful embrace, its struggles are useless against the Mega Pokemon's powerful hold. Yanmega was in a tough position. He'd finally managed to do some actual damage to Swampert, but he was much worse off than the Water type at this point. Could he turn this around before it was too late?

Yanmega was back in action, but Kade and Swampert were ready- just because they could only use attacking moves at the moment didn't render them helpless while Yanmega was out of reach; Swampert began striking the ground with repeated Power-Up Punches, boosting its Attack at an alarming rate. And then, while Giga Drain did great damage, Swampert was able to land a hit with Rock Slide that undid all the healing Yanmega had achieved. And as though that weren't enough, Yanmega found itself trapped in a painful embrace as Kade had Swampert use Waterfall to grapple with Yanmega.

Willa gritted her teeth- Yanmega was in trouble, and he had to get out of there, fast! Of course, with the close proximity that was kinda forced upon both Yanmega and Swampert at the moment, surely they were in a prime position to strike, were they not?

"Stay strong, Yanmega!" Willa exclaimed. "Do it now! Giga Drain with everything you've got!"

"Yan... ya..." Yanmega rumbled determinedly, doing his very best to keep going despite the crushingly painful embrace. Mega Swampert was not only right there, but it was forcefully keeping the gap between them closed. This couldn't miss! Yanmega made to sap energy and strength from Swampert yet again, and keep doing so until he could get free and create a little distance. And if creating said distance required a Shadow Storm or an Air Slash on top of this, then so be it. Was this where things truly turned around for them? Willa and Yanmega both hoped so.

Missingno.Master- Swampert had taken Yanmega into a powerfully tight embrace, but in doing so, it might just have given the Bug the opportunity it needed. Although it was hard to get into the right position, Yanmega manages to wiggle enough to be able to sink his mandibles directly into the Mud Fish's arm. The direct Giga Drain received an immediate response, as Kade spat orders at his Pokemon. "Slam it into the ground and drop the Rock Tomb!"

Swampert grabs Yanmega by the tail with its other arm, ripping it away before it can recover too much health. It slams the Bug into the ground before stepping back, arms raised. Giant rocks begin to rain down towards Yanmega. It beats its wings, trying to push them back with a violent Shadow Storm. It's not enough though and the rocks crash down upon it, encasing it in a Rocky Tomb. The Bug doesn't stop fighting though, you can hear the Yanmega battling within the tomb, trying to break free with Air Slashes. The rocks looks like they're beginning to weaken, but then Kade calls for a finisher. "Put an end to this Swampert, Stone Edge!"

With a final flex of its muscles, Swampert smashes both fists into the ground. Tremors rock the earth and then seconds later, a giant stone pillar erupts through the Rock Tomb! The glistening blue stone's explosive eruption sends Yanmega soaring into the air. You watch on with hope, but the bug's wings fail to beat. It falls slowly, unconscious and unable to continue. You'd lost.......

Yanmega is unconscious! Yanmega gained 3 levels!

"I told you this was over", Kade smiles as Swampert reverts to its regular form. He recalls the Mud Fish before continuing. "Hate me all you want, you made the wrong choice when you challenged me. I told you the truth, giving you a chance to go after the right person but you were too arrogant to listen. And yes, I know that's rich coming from me." Kade dug into his pocket, producing some sort of blue gem. "For your troubles", Kade grins before tossing the object into the river! "I'll give you another shot at beating me if our paths ever cross again, I suggest you do some training." With that Kade turns and walks away, with the river separating you and your Pokemon unconscious, you had no way of catching up with him. What was that thing Kade had thrown in the river? Was it worth a swim for? The water was fairly clear, but if you weren't quick, the current would likely take it away.

Yanmega was quick to comply with Willa's command, but Kade was just as quick to react. Before Willa knew it, Yanmega was trapped in a Rock Tomb. Trying his best to break free, but in the end, his best wasn't good enough; Swampert unleashed a powerful, decisive Stone Edge that sent Yanmega skyward. "Yanmega!!" Willa shrieked before she could stop herself. To her horror, Yanmega's wings were not beating, he was making no effort to slow his descent, and as he landed, it was clear to see... that Yanmega was unable to battle.

Willa made no effort to respond to Kade's words, said nothing as she withdrew Yanmega. As smug and insufferable as Kade was, he was also undeniably right. He had been honest with Willa from the start, gave her a chance to pursue the actual culprit. But no- Willa, Willa and her distrustful nature, her firm belief that words alone were meaningless, Willa had basically screwed herself over with this one. And she might have been OK with that had she managed to at least beat that insufferable jerk in battle, but no- she couldn't even accomplish that. He could have just shown his Pokémon from the start, spared Willa from all of this, but no- the bastard insisted on a full battle, insisted on drawing this all out, and ultimately coming out on top, to add as much insult as he could to injury.

But there would be time for self-pity later. Almost unconsciously, Willa started to go after whatever the hell Kade had thrown into the river. Much as she loathed the guy, she figured if she was gonna at least be able to get something possibly good out of all of this, she might as well take it.

Meetan-

Seeing the chaos quickly unfold around you, you think on your feet and go ahead and make sure things are set right. You scold Nani a little bit, the Machop having a look of sorrow on her face. She was just proud she was picking berries, and didn't realize that the Cherubi was an actual Pokemon instead of a giant pink oran berry.

You see her go to grab some of the spare oran berries and starts to crush them in her hands. With a few crushed into juice, she then starts rubbing it around to mix it in with her sweat. This creates a type of lubricant as she goes to free the Cherubi from the bucket. You can hear the cherry Pokemon let out a few soft cries as she is gently tugged out of the bucket. The oran berry lubricant coats the Cherubi and Nani is able to slide the Pokemon out.

The Cherubi then lets out a gleeful noise and gives a little dance. It asn't confined to the bucket no longer, and it was obvious it was a little cramped in there, as there was a few welts on its body from it being forced in there by Nani. It was obvious it was a more quieter Pokemon, as it didn't make too much noise. Nani has gained one level for her efforts.

Meanwhile, Bentley and Duchess were working on the small swarm of Combee. Both channeling the power of the sun, they unleash powerful Weather Balls on the three remaining Combee. You can hear the bees panicking as the two weather balls converge onto them, the moves swirling around each other before combining into one giant solar flare. The bees let out a loud humming noise as the moves wash over them, leaving them a little crispy. With the remaining Combee gone, you can see Isaac let out a relieved cry. Bentley and Duchess have both received an additional level for saving the boy from the horde!

"Sometimes Cherubi or Applin can fall from these trees. They do look like berries, but are Pokemon," you can hear Ringo educating Nani. The Machop gives an understanding nod as she goes to move the Cherubi back to its home. The Pokemon is having none of it when its picked up, and starts letting out a sweet scent again. Seems its a little scarred from earlier.

At this point Isaac gets up and starts apologizing profusely. Its obvious enough he has a fear of bug-typed Pokemon, and wasn;t expecting Combee to be there when he went to go gather honey. Its at this point that Granny Smith goes up to the both of you.

"Dear Isaac, it's okay. Just calm yourself for a while before you go back out. If you want." She quickly glances at you. "I'm sure this trainer would be glad to spare the time to help out. Even if you just send one of your Pokemon as a bodyguard I'm sure that'll ease his mind."

Ringo and Nani then approach with buckets filled with oran berries. The Cherubi follows after. It seems to be curious about the rest of your group as well.

"We got our task done mom. Is my boy still having a little bit of trouble? I'll just do it," she state before getting shushed by Granny.

"If you baby him his whole life, he'll never be able to inherit this place," she calmly states, which causes a pained look on the boy's face. You could tell that the words seemed to eat at him.

"Anyways, for successfully completing these two tasks, have a reward," Granny says to you, and hands you $250 and a Rose Incense. "You can also take a handful of the Oran Berries you picked dear." That would total to about 5 berries.

With the help around the farm mostly done, it seemed you had the choice to relax and socialize with the Cherubi, or help out Isaac into going into the field and helping him gather honey.

What do you do?

What do you do?
((Going forward, Machop will be a Machoke, as she evolved quite a while ago now. She as a Muscle Band as her held item obtained in DG.)

Alice was overly emotive as it was, but seeing the sorrow in Nani's eyes at being scolded tugged at her heartstrings. She felt a bit of tension in her bones from it, even. Still, the sadness was soon replaced with pride at seeing her Machoke's resourcefulness, not even bothered at how grim mixing juice with sweat might have been as Nani got to rescuing the Cherubi that she trapped. The trainer made a few calls of encouragement from the sidelines, but her attention was torn between Nani and the clash two of her other Pokemon were having with the Combee. Thankfully the latter was over with, the bugs fleeing in the wake of a bright and burning Weather Ball extravaganza. Isaac was saved and the Cherubi was, too. Phew!

Nani grew from Level 50 to 51. Bentley grew from Level 9 to 10 and Dutchess grew from Level 26 to 27!

Alice listens in to the little explanation that Granny Smith was giving Nani, sending the muscular Pokemon a smile and thumbs up as the other two returned to her. She picked Bentley up so that he could return to his place in her hair, giving Dutchess a good scritch and scratch as a reward for her performance in battle. She hadn't been in the team long at all, but she was already doing a good job! Not everyone was happy, though. The inheritor to the farm was obviously insecure about his in capabilities and worried about his future. Alice could sympathise. She had been there herself.

"Oh! Thank you, I wasn't expecting that." Alice beamed. She took her gifts with gratitude, packing them away carefully as she considered her options. "We'll go and help in the fields, we're already and out and ready to hustle and rumble, aren't we?" The trainer joked to her Pokemon. She smiled at the lingering Cherubi. If it wanted to follow them, Alice wasn't going to send it away, but she wasn't going to leave poor Isaac in the field by himself unless he preferred it. He obviously had a lot on his mind and paranoia about a bug attack wasn't going to help things, either.

A myriad of scents drifted from the ripened fruit, mixing into a pleasant bouquet. The dappled effect produced by the overhead sun beaming through foliage provides a comforting atmosphere. You had come here seeking relaxation, and you had certainly found something close to that. Finally, your trio break from the trees and stand on the main road leading into the plantation. In the distance you can see the main farmhouse, situated at the heart of the Orchard. However, something more immediate catches your eye.

Stood on the track road was a rather elderly man, dressed lightly but donning well worn overalls over his lighter attire. Despite his somewhat short stature, he was jolly and involved, bouncing between helping hands and giving direction where he can, exuding an aura of friendliness. As you move closer, he takes notice of you, striding confidently with a beaming expression. He warmly takes your hand before you can say anything, his wide smile never faltering.

"Hello there laddie. The name's Gordon. Can't say I've seen your face around here before - never forget a face, myself, even with my age."

At this last remark, he laughs loudly, a richly sonorous tone that would ease even the most frayed of nerves. The man was clearly a natural with people, the kind of person you could easily find yourself drawn to.

"Oh! But where are my manners!"

Shrugging his shoulders, he removes a rucksack from his back, before reaching inside and retrieving a thermos. Moments later and Gordon has produced a cup of what seems to be tea, intensely aromatic steam rising from the edges of the offered cup.

"Have a try of this, tell me what you think. It's a new blend I've been trying. Perks of running a farm like this - there's no end to potential ingredients."
His desire for relaxation was more than met with the environment he was in, with the aroma of ripened berries and blossom soothing and tranquil, as was the scenery beneath the trees. Several others were in the vicinity minding themselves, some having picnics, and as Alex gave a slightly content sigh, the Aipom and Minccino came to break from the greenery into the road, the orchard farmhouse in the distance. However, it was the bystander who caught the trainer's eye. Said bystander was an elderly fellow, who simply oozed of charity the way he was giving pointers to other travellers and beaming the entire time.

Almost as soon as he was detected the gentleman moved with untold swiftness, giving him a sudden handshake that caused him to startle only a little, before introducing himself as Gordon, and despite the intrusion of personal space there was something about him that put Alex at ease. Gordon simply seemed to exude an aura of genuine goodwill, before shrugging off his rucksack and pulling out a thermal flask and offering Alex a cup of tea, mentioning it was something new and the bounty of the woods.

"Thanks, Gordon. My name's Alex, and I was here a while back, when that whole Abomasnow business flared up," he said warmly, accepting the beverage. "I'm pretty much here for a bit of relaxation before me and my squad start on a climb up the mountain, but if you're needing a hand around here we'd be glad to help out. If anything, it'll keep Xiphos here out of trouble..." he remarked, looking down towards the chinchilla who was busy dusting himself off and thinking how best to woo the chimp.

Missingno.Master- Hoping to salvage something out of this whole mess of a situation, you dive into the water in search of the item that Kade had tossed away. Submerged beneath the icy water, you scan the river bed, the light filtering in more than enough to illuminate your surroundings. It isn't exactly easy to battle the current, your hands scrape through the fine gravel searching feverishly for the discarded item. Like a hunting Cramorant you rise to catch your breath before diving back down, your efforts proving fruitless, for a time.

It wasn't what you were looking for, but when bulldozing through the gravel, you find a beautiful Heart Scale. You new the worth of such an item, it was certainly a reward for your efforts. Was it enough though? Rising for one last breath, you decide that one last search was all you had left in you. Chances were the item had already been dragged away by the current. Submerging one final time, you spot something sparkling in the distance, its crystalline structure refracting the rays of light filtering through the water. Almost out of breath, you grasp the object and surface, holding it up into the air triumphantly. The sunlight shines through the Water Gem, the item that Kade had thrown into the river. Was it what you'd thought it was?

Pulling yourself out of the water, you shiver as the cool breeze strikes you. You needed to get somewhere warm, a Pokemon Centre, before Hypothermia kicked in. Your Pokemon needed attention as well, this had been an arduous endeavour.

You've found a Heart Scale and a Water Gem. This is the end of your Cloud Garden adventure, and unfortunately with the zone closed to new adventures, you will need to travel elsewhere. Best Wishes!

Meetan-

Making your decision, you decide to tag along with Isaac to help him gather honey. The Cherubi looks at you curiously before deciding to wander off further into the orchard. Seemed it wanted to play with you in the moment, but with you leaving it didn't feel the need to really come with you. Oh well, you needed to start heading off. You could see the brunet boy already heading off into the orchard and away from the safety from the immediate area.

Following him along, you can see him stop just ahead of you and stretch down. He catches his breath before standing up and looking towards the sky. He looks fixated on the clouds, and there is a sense of serenity as he just aimlessly stares the the blue sky.

"Ya' know, its quite beautiful up there, isn't it?" He asked. While it was obvious the question was for you, it seemed to sound more like he was talking to himself. Seeming to reflect on what was going on. But, you also had the feeling there was more on his mind than the simple task of regathering honey.

He then continues moving forwards, seeming to take a few steps then stopping. The ground here was muddy, and there were quite a few sinking mud puddles along the road. It smelled of fresh rain here, even so it didn't smell of rain at all when you were back at Granny's.

Once you were through the puddles, you make your way deeper into the orchard. You can see that the trees are starting to become more dense, and you can hear a lot more rustling about. Most likely the Pokemon native to the area moving around. There was also a sweet scent in the air. The honey was nearby. But, before you could move on, you see Isaac standing there. He seemed to still be shaken by his encounter with the Combee before hand. You probably won't be able to continue until you give him some encouragement.

What do you do?

Most likely the Pokemon native to the area moving around. There was also a sweet scent in the air. The honey was nearby. But, before you could move on, you see Isaac standing there. He seemed to still be shaken by his encounter with the Combee before hand. You probably won't be able to continue until you give him some encouragement.

What do you do?
Alice waved and called goodbye to the Cherubi, Dutchess lingering behind to watch the bouncing berry go before following after her new human. Her black fur sparkled in the sunlight, the shine of it still catching even as they made their way under the canopy of the orchard, stricken by the beams that broke through the leaves and hanging fruit. Alice stopped when Isaac did, exchanging a puzzled look with Nani. She didn't seem as bothered as the trainer was, nostrils visibly at work as she took in the scents of the produce being grown and of the Pokemon that were rustling and bustling around them, out of sight.

"Yeah, it is." She agreed there. The sky was a bright blue, some clouds floating on by. Even though the ground was wet here, there'd been no sign of rain back on the farm proper, or even as they'd made their way towards it before. Alice wondered if that was another worker hosing the place, or if it was Pokemon up to mischief. It certainly was muddy. At least Nani was here to pick her up if the terrain got too unbearable. Duchess seemed a bit unsure of it, too. She'd likely spent so long being abused by that foul woman that she was terrified of getting dirty, and Alice had to usher quiet reassurances to the fluffy canine that it was, in fact, fine. It wouldn't be all that hard to clean her off, and the rare darkness of Duchess' fur meant that it wouldn't even show all that badly anyway.

Something was on Isaac's mind, though. It didn't take a genius to figure that out. Even with how he'd been talking to her before, he'd sounded very distant. Alice figured that it had something to do with what had just transpired, and the words of his elders as well. "Isaac, it's alright. We're all here to protect you, and I have more Pokemon with me than just these three. I promise you'll be fine." The idol soothed, "And if you want to talk about anything, we're all ears. We wouldn't tell anyone what you told us, promise." She assured him, "Let's get to it, yeah? How do we go about getting all this honey?"

Disclaimer: Any and all opinions expressed in regards to the value of the Water Gem in the following post do not in any way reflect the opinions and beliefs of Missingno. Master Incorporated, and we are sincerely grateful for the item in question.

Willa dove, again and again, into the river, fighting the current with all her considerable swimming expertise, braving the frigid waters to search for whatever the hell Kade left as a parting gift. She hadn't gotten a proper look at it at when he first threw it into the river, and so wasn't sure what it was beyond it being a blue gem of some sort. And unlikely as this was, Willa held onto the slightest shred of hope that it might actually be something she'd be interested in. She managed to find a Heart Scale- this might not have been what Kade threw in there, but she took it nonetheless- these things were pretty valuable.

At last, Willa found something sparkling. As she grabbed it and surfaced, she could tell right away that this was what Kade had thrown in. One, it was blue. Two, it was a gem. And three, it was considerably less valuable than Willa had allowed herself to hope for.

A Water Gem. A stinking Water Gem. In hindsight, it made a lot of sense- why in the hell would Kade, big jerk that he was, decide to give Willa a Z-Crystal? Making her scavenge in the water for something Willa could easily buy at the Department Store, exactly the sort of thing he'd pull. Fuming, Willa exited the water, but even her heated emotions couldn't ignore the frigid breeze that blew over her. For a moment, Willa stood there, feeling every bit as pathetic as she undoubtedly looked. She couldn't win the fishing contest. She couldn't catch the cheater in the act. She couldn't even wipe that infuriating smirk off of that smug bastard's face, and now she was dripping wet, shivering cold, not one of her on-hand Pokémon still conscious, and she'd just gone diving into the river for the piece of garbage Kade had thrown in there for her. What else could possibly go wrong-

"Willa?"

...Sure. Her boyfriend could see her in this sorry state. Why not.

Willa gave a heavy sigh, looking up. Even with all she'd just been through, she couldn't help but give a small smile at the sight of Keith Masters, riding on the back of his dark grey Scolipede, looking at her with no small amount of concern. "What brings you out this way?" Willa asked.

"Figured I'd come out and surprise you with a picnic lunch," Keith said, gesturing to a picnic basket hanging from Salazar's mouth. "But what happened?"

"It's... a long story," Willa sighed. "Can... can we talk about it at home?"

"Yeah, of course, hop on," Keith nodded.

~~~~~
Once back at the Poisonous Palace, Willa had taken a hot shower and was in some considerably warmer clothes, her Pokémon were currently being treated at the local Pokémon Center, and now she and Keith were seated in the living room with some hot mugs of tea.
"Well... I tried my hand at fishing," Willa began. "Did everything just as you said... and I hooked a Gyarados."
"A Gyara- wh- daaaaamn," Keith murmured. "And it pulled you in the water?"
"No, no, Yanmega held onto me," Willa stated. "It tried to pull me in, but we wound up flying overhead. I... didn't want to lose the catch. Considering I was hoping to catch a Magikarp there in the first place, you know I wasn't about to let a Gyarados get away. Especially since your first time fishing, you caught a School Form Wishiwashi. Anyway, the Gyarados surfaced after Yanmega shot an Ancient Power into the water, and... well, the rod slipped out of my hands, and Gyarados crunched it to pieces. I'm sorry."
Keith shook his head. "I'm not even worried about that," he said firmly. "Fishing Rods can be replaced. You can't."
Willa gave a small, appreciative smile at this. "I tried battling the Gyarados, but we were immensely outmatched. In desperation, I threw an Ultra Ball at it... and it bounced off, not even attempting to catch it."
"Oh, geez- it belonged to someone?" murmured Keith.
"A nice woman named Mariana," Willa stated. "Very understanding once I explained the situation. But then she told me about this Magikarp fishing contest- whoever would fish up the biggest Magikarp would win a state-of-the-art Fishing Rod. All caught Magikarp had to be thrown back, but I didn't particularly care- the big draw for me was getting you a replacement Fishing Rod. Mariana was kind enough to lend me a very nice Fishing Rod for use in the contest, too."
"Wow," Keith murmured. "I mean, you didn't even have to do that, but still... Did you win?" he asked.
Willa gave a heavy sigh. "I never had a chance," she said. "A little ways into the contest, a Sharpedo swam by and cut every fishing line in that part of the lake."
"Of the lake?" Keith repeated, frowning. "That's pretty suspicious right there- Sharpedo don't live in lakes."
"My thoughts exactly," Willa nodded. "Lapras was able to repel the Sharpedo, and Spewpa and Mawile-"
"Spewpa?" Keith repeated.
"Ah, yes, I neglected to mention- I hooked a Barboach earlier into the contest, and when fighting it off, Scatterbug evolved," Willa said with a small smile. "So yes- Mawile and Spewpa helped repair my fishing line, and with it, I was able to hook a Magikarp. A... very small Magikarp," she sighed. "Objectively smaller than the norm for the species. I tried my best- even got Decidueye to try and seek out larger Magikarp, but in the end, the small one was my entry. I knew even before I got to the judging I was doomed- I saw the other Magikarp being entered, and they dwarfed my entry. The winner was this smug bastard by the name of Kade. I had seen him earlier, riding a Blastoise, and laughing at everyone whose line had been cut."
"Huh," Keith frowned.
"Indeed," Willa frowned. "He made a completely unwelcome and unappreciated victory speech, in which he made a 'crunch" pun that only furthered our suspicions. However, once he'd left with his prize, Mariana awarded me a regular Fishing Rod for my perseverance the face of adversity." At this, she produced the Fishing Rod from her bag and handed it over to Keith.
"Willa... thank you," Keith murmured, accepting the Fishing Rod. "Don't consider this mine alone, though. You're welcome to it whenever you like," he stated.
"I appreciate it," Willa nodded. " And Mariana even allowed me to catch the Magikarp I had entered, stating it was too small to be thrown back, and so I caught it. I'll introduce you later. But... well, after this, I pursued Kade, thoroughly convinced that the Sharpedo was his, and I intended to make him pay for cheating. He refused to send out his Pokémon unless I took him on in a six-on-six full battle. So I took him on. He had some very tough Pokémon. Slowpoke... Cramorant... Octillery... Cradily... Blastoise, of course... and..."
"...please tell me his last Pokémon was Sharpedo," said Keith.
"...Swampert," sighed Willa. "And it could Mega Evolve."
"Ooh," winced Keith. "Did... you win?" Willa did not say anything, but the look she gave Keith at this answered the question thoroughly. "Oh, Willa," sighed Keith.
Willa trembled, despite no longer being cold. "And after this, he threw some blue gem into the river, telling me I could have it for my troubles. I jumped in after it, thinking it was a Z-Crystal of some sort... it was a damn Water Gem," she sighed. "I jumped in the river for a piece of garbage. I did at least find a Heart Scale in there, though," she added. "And... you found me maybe a minute after I got out of the river," she finished.
"Wow," Keith murmured. "Damn. Well... you did get your Magikarp, at least," he shrugged. "And a Heart Scale, that's not too shabby."
Willa shook her head. "Before I took Kade up on his battle challenge, he told me that the third place winner, some elderly woman, was the real cheater. I didn't believe him for a second, and he turned out to actually be innocent. If I wasn't so damn distrustful, I could have gone after the real culprit, I could have gotten some sort of justice..."
Keith moved closer to Willa and put an arm around her. "This is not your fault," he said firmly. "From what you've told me about Kade, I have the overwhelming urge to kick him in the Sludge Bombs, and not only because of what a jerk he was to you specifically, either. Even I wouldn't have taken his claims of innocence at face value. I'm pretty trusting, yeah, but if I were in the same position as you, I'd have made the same call, no question."
"...right," Willa nodded after a few moments of silently sipping her tea. "You're right. I... Honestly, today could have gone a lot worse, it just... could have gone a whole lot better, too."
"We all have days that can be summed up like that," Keith nodded. "Try and focus on the positive things that came out of this. You got a pretty damn awesome story about your first time fishing. You got the Magikarp you were after. Scatterbug evolved. And you got a Heart Scale.
By now, Willa's smile had grown noticeably. "All very valid points," she conceded. "Thank you, Keith. I... after a day like today, I needed this very much."
Keith smiled back. "You bet," he nodded. "How's the tea?"
"Very good. Thank you," Willa nodded. "...once we're done, would you accompany me to the Pokémon Center?" she inquired. "I would like to show you Spewpa and introduce you to Magikarp."
Keith nodded, smiling. "I'd love to," he replied.
*Adventure Complete!*
*Obtained the Heart Scale!*
*Obtained the Water Gem!*
Thanks for the adventure, TKF! I'm gonna miss having you update me in this zone. And this zone just in general, for that matter. Hopefully I get to come back in here at some point, maybe have Terri take on more trials, or actually do something with Eddie... Maybe someday.
You smartly call on the Bee Fly Pokemon’s aide, its heightened sense of smell what brought you together in the first place. The Cutiefly buzzes affirmatively, its elongated sniffer pointing upward until it locks onto the pungent, fruity aroma once more. The bug flits into chase, deftly veering through the tangles of bushes and flowers as your party clumsily amble in tow, taking care not to further damage the rose bushes.
The pursuit goes on for a few minutes until you break into a field of lavender, the cloying smell working to throw off the Cutiefly who was now darting aimlessly in all directions. Fortunately, the Bewear was back in your peripheral, no longer fully obscured with the neatly kempt lavender bushes only sprouting as high as it’s waist. Shuckle’s arms were flapping as he yelled out in your direction, although it was hard to tell if he was distressed or excited, seemingly enjoying the intoxicated joyride. Cutiefly was homing in fast but the Bewear wasn’t going to let its prize go without a fight, batting the bug out of the air with a Flail of its arm! You rush to the fallen ally’s aide, the Pokemon taken surprise by the power of the hit but buzzing back to a hover quick enough. A burning determination had ignited in its pixel-shaped eyes, it was going to help you take down the bandit! If you wanted to win over the Cutiefly, this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. But it would need a teammate to even the odds, perhaps Illuminise could offer a helping hand?
This was an utter disaster, but PJ was doing his absolute best to keep it all under control. Cutiefly was able to lock on to the scent of the Shuckle, and the foursome of Cutiefly, PJ, Terri, and Lemon gave chase. They emerged into a field of lavender, and there they found the Bewear. Under normal circumstances, PJ would be overjoyed by the floral bouquet around him, but he had something to focus on that was far more important.
Shuckle didn't seem all too aware of the potential danger that was present, but Cutiefly definitely did, as it rushed towards the pair. The Bewear flailed about, knocking the small bug back, but it had a fire in its heart, now. PJ could see it. They exchanged a brief look, and PJ understood completely, as did Terri. She fluttered forward, ready to tag team against the Strong Arm Pokemon.
For a brief second, PJ remembered a night he was talking to Uncle Darik. It was a particularly gloomy night, with heavy rain falling outside the window, and Darik was distantly talking about his travels in a far-off region, where he learned all about the art of Double Battles, and he was telling PJ some of the basics. Isolate the biggest threat. Cripple its offensive presence. Keep it off balance. He'd have to apply those lessons here.
"Terri," he called out, "Play Nice with the Bewear to draw its attention." He'd been using that move a lot, but she was very limited in what she could do right now, and he'd have to make the most of it. "Cutiefly, take advantage of the opening and hit it with a Struggle Bug." It would be a weak hit, to be sure, but the pair of moves should have the desired effect of weakening the Bewear's ability to throw its weight around as potently. And then it would be time to apply the pressure. "Terri, follow it up with a Thunderbolt, flitting back, while Cutiefly, you swap positions with her and give the big bear a Draining Kiss!"
He and Lemon exchanged a nod. He knew his Watchog would stand guard over him in case the Bewear tried to rush him. PJ watched the Bewear carefully, preparing to run in to retrieve the Shuckle if he was dropped.
Rose Garden
Slash: While the chase had given you a stitch you’d managed to close in on the runaway Bewear, now just came the job of prizing the Mold Pokemon from its powerful mitts. You pluck orders from the juvenile firefly’s shallow movepool and the fight for Shuckle’s freedom gets quickly under way. Tagging in, Terri is first off the bat with what she does best, hoping to Play Nice with Bewear and perhaps even coax the berry fermenter free without any struggle at all! The attack does little to phase the Strong Arm Pokemon who swats the Illuminise back with a Brutal Swing. Terri goes careening into the lavender bushes which break her fall for the most part, determinedly hovering back to the battlefield. The distraction posed by Terri provides a wide opening for Cutiefly, the Bug scuttling against Bewear’s underside, the Struggling dealing light damage to the foe but creeping out some, debuffing its special attack. By now Illuminise had regained altitude and was zooming back into the fray, sparks from her rump dancing up and down her body as she lets loose a Thunderbolt. Bewear’s fur stands on end from the static, the shock leaving a nasty sting behind; Shuckle was caught in the crossfire too it appeared, although too inebriated to care as it fell into a drunken slumber. Cutiefly leaves no time for recovery, giving the distracted bear a Kiss on the cheek robbing it of some of its vitality. While the bear’s health was beginning to Drain its rage was only just firing up, no longer looking for an escape but laserfocused on squashing the annoying bugs. The Bewear Curls up into a ball with Shuckle in hand, shoring up its Defences before breaking into a Rollout. The attack takes the nearby Cutiefly by surprise, flattening it like a steamroller while Terri is given enough warning to dodge. The Bug/Fairy wearily pushes to its feet, one antennae bent and completely unaware of the accelerating bear-ball veering back its way!
Meetan-
Upon hearing you say that you would listen to his problems with no judgement, you see Isaac hang his head and look skyward once more. But this time, instead of cloud gazing, he was looking towards the mountain. Always watching over the Cloud Garden, it was a reminder that people needed to reach for the stars to reach their dreams.
"I hate this farm. I hate this place. I just, I don' know anything besides taking care of the Orchard with Granny and Ma. It's all I know, but that's what makes me want to leave. Whenever I look at the sky, I know there's more out there then picking berries or gatherin' honey. I've heard there's a big city in this land. I want to go there. Small country boy finding his way in the big city. Ain't that a cliche, huh?" He chuckled a little bit before turning towards you. His voice was soft, demure, and his eyes were glistening. Watery aquamarines staring into you, being highlighted by his star-kissed skin.
"Tell me Alice. What's it like out there. What's it like to follow your dreams? To be able to follow your own song and dance and not worry 'bout what others think of you? I just.." at this point he was sobbing into his own hands. It was obvious enough that he had to bare the burden of being the 'man' of the family. His father was no where in sight and it seemed that the rest of his family din't even want to approach the subject.
You knew you had to get the task at hand done, but the teen in front of you needed some consoling. At least, you needed to do some along the way. But, before you were able to truly respond to him, Isaac swiped his hand across his face a sniffled a little. He was still shaking, but there was something in him that changed.
"Let's just get this done. All we need to do is take those buckets there." He pointed to a few buckets towards the entrance of the grove. "And scrape the honey off of the tree. Be careful, the Combee have been a lot more agitated as of late." He warned as he grabbed two buckets and headed in.
What do you do?
How about we head up to the Cloud Shrine and I'll give you a little more information." Jet releases his Drifblim from its ball and the two of you make your way back to the entrance of the cave. Jet helps drag the basket out of the cave, thankfully the storm seems to have died down. The Drifblim reattaches itself and Jet climbs into the basket, inviting you in as well. You climb in with your Pokemon and Jet instructs the Drifblim to take off. It inflates and the basket begins to lift off the ground, rising higher and higher as you begin to ascend up the mountain.
The trip is fairly short, Jet has obviously done this trip a million times. The basket soon touches down at the Cloud Shrine, the old shrine is partially obscured by a thick ring of clouds but its is beautiful none the less. Jet's Pidgeot descends through the clouds. It lands beside its trainer and begins to preen its feathers. "Welcome to the Cloud Shrine Melissa, it might not look like much but its ancient and gives me a great vantage point. Now, I suppose you want details on the trial? How about I show you my team, it should help make things a little more clear. Jet tosses out a pair of Pokeballs, revealing an Emolga and a Talonflame. "My trial is similar to a relay, three legs across different terrain. We start down in the forest, the section of the forest is rather dense and there are a multitude of different obstructions you'll have to weave through. Agility is key here, which is why I like to use Emolga, its perfect at squeezing through tight spots. This is the only leg where you can get away with using a grounded Pokemon, although it'll be a bit harder. Once you reach the edge of the forest, the next leg starts, this time its a race up the mountain, but you'll have to compete with the thermals created from the mix of hot air from the burnt forest and the cold air of Snowfall Steppe. A powerful, experienced flyer is needed here, otherwise you'll find yourself at the mercy of the wings. No one is better at handling the thermals than my Pidgeot. Lastly, we drop down the canyon, its all about the speed here, a flat out sprint to the finish. If you can out speed my Talonflame then you certainly deserve to win. We'll be observing from Drifblim's basket, that way we can have a clear view of our Pokemon at all times. So Melissa, have you got a team in mind?"
A grin spread across Jet's face when she asked to challenge his Trial. "I'm assuming since you got up the waterfall you already have at least one trial badge? Mine isn't for the faint of heart. I hope you've got some strong flying Pokémon on your team. How about we head up to the Cloud Shrine and I'll give you a little more information."
"I dunno how strong my fliers are, but I hope they're up to the challenge," Melissa said as she scooped Wildfire up and set him on her shoulder.
She followed Jet as he released his Drifblim and headed for the mouth of the cave, snagging the basket as they went. She helped him drag it out of the cave, where the storm seemed to have died down, and watched the Drifblim attach itself to the basket. Jet climbed in and Melissa followed, hanging on to the basket's walls as Jet's Drifblim lifted off.
It doesn't take them long to touch down at the Cloud Shrine, a beautiful, old shrine partially hidden by a thick ring of clouds. Jet's Pidgeot lands nearby and begins to preen as Jet starts talking. "Welcome to the Cloud Shrine, Melissa. It might not look like much, but it's ancient and gives me a great vantage point. Now, I suppose you want details on the trial?"
Melissa nodded.
"How about i show you my team? It should help make things a little more clear." Jet tossed out a pair of Pokéballs, releasing an Emolga and a Talonflame. "My trial is similar to a relay: three legs across different terrain. We start down in the forest. Agility is key here, which is why I like to use Emolga; it's perfect at squeezing through tight spots. This is the only leg where you can get away with using a grounded Pokémon, although it'll be a bit harder."
Melissa nodded her understanding so far and started running her mind over her roster. For all her interest in bird Pokémon, she didn't have the best selection of them. Though, she did have a candidate in mind for this leg...
"Once you reach the edge of the forest, the next leg starts," Jet continued. "This time, it's a race up the mountain, but you'll have to compete with the thermals created from the mix of hot air from the Burnt Forest and the cold air of Snowfall Steppe. A powerful, experienced flyer is needed here; otherwise, you'll find yourself at the mercy of the winds."
Melissa nodded again, thoughtfully this time. That mix would be volatile and unpredictable at the best of times, but she figured her best chance here would be Cirrus. Not the least because the Swablu was her oldest flier. Most of her other fliers probably wouldn't do so well when it came to the cold anyway.
"No one is better at handling the thermals than my Pidgeot," he said, confident. "Lastly, we drop down the canyon. It's all about the speed here, a flat out sprint to the finish. If you can outspeed my Talonflame, then you certainly deserve to win."
Melissa smirked a little at that, nodding and shrugging minutely because that was fair.
"We'll be observing from Drifblim's basket; that way, we can have a clear view of our Pokémon at all times. So, Melissa, have you got a team in mind?"
Well, at least that explained why they hadn't disembarked.
She exchanged a glance with Wildfire, who shrugged and gestured for her to go-ahead, and nodded slowly. "Yeah, I think I do." She huffed a laugh. "Dunno how they'll hold up, but I'm gonna send my Snivy against your Emolga, my Swablu against your Pidgeot, and my Fletchling against your Talonflame."
PJ watched as the duo of Bugs worked together to try to take down the threat before them. Their strategy seemed to be working well, until Bewear decided to roll himself into a ball, and then keep rolling in an assault on Cutiefly. The rolling tackle probably hurt less due to PJ's initial tactic, but it still clearly hurt the bee fly a lot.
The teamwork was there, but the Bewear was stronger than PJ had anticipated. The Shuckle's aroma still hung in the air, even through the bear's curled up form, and PJ hoped the uncontrolled rolling wasn't upsetting the little guy.
The rolling bear itself was proving to be quite a strong threat, and building power fast. He'd have to change tactics. It occurred to PJ Bewear probably wasn't in his right mind, driven a bit mad from the Shuckle's sweet berry juice scent, compounded with anger from being attacked, but he had to go all out to stop it before it could hurt anyone else. It wasn't the kind of thing PJ liked, that kind of aggressiveness, but the Shuckle was wrapped up in this because of him, so PJ had to save him.
"Cutiefly," he called out, "Spread an Aromatic Mist to obscure the area and mess with his sense of smell, then follow up with a Moonblast! Stay mobile while you do so to make it harder for him to track you down and roll you over. Terri, flank him from the mist and throw out a pair of Thunderbolts. Cutiefly, finish with another Moonblast."
Hopefully that would be enough to take the bear down. Lemon continued to stand by, dutifully, but it wasn't his battle to fight, and both he and PJ knew it. For PJ to earn the Cutiefly's respect, and for Terri to earn her own, Lemon couldn't play a fighting role here. PJ wouldn't let it get so bad he'd have to tag Lemon in as a final resort. He pulled out his last two Potions just in case he'd need them.
