We're talking about E3 2014, and this year THE FUTURE IS REVEALED

Oh yes, ladies and gentlemen, the future. A word so erratic and unstable that Satoru Iwata has upped their yearly Wii U kickstarter to two blood sacrifices from everyone if you want Nintendo to keep the milking machine running. Please understand.


So what does this mean for you? Well, everything, quite frankly, but also nothing. How ambiguous was that answer? Very.


With E3 starting in just a few days, it's your last call to play your hand and place your bets. What will happen? Who will it happen to? Will there actually be games!? All of this and more answered in...

Most likely:

- Halo Collection comes to Xbox One this Fall, includes Halo 5 beta code

- Yet another year passes without any word on The Last Guardian and Half Life 3

- Smash Bros. 3DS gets an August release date

- Zelda Wii U is revealed for 2015

- Majora's Mask 3DS remake

- Animal Crossing Wii U announced

- Uncharted 4, something something

- Demon's Souls 2 (Beast Souls?) is announced for PS4 exclusively

- Sequel to a game that no one cared about is announced

- Metroid 3DS (Prime Hunters 2 please?)

- Mass Effect 4 (isn't called Mass Effect 4)

- Sunset Overdrive. Ryse 2.

- Things that aren't video games. Lots of things that aren't video games.

- FPS with lots of brown. Oh boy such innovation.

- Ruby and Sapphire remake stuff. Of course.

- GabeN shows up during someone's conference, announces Portal 3 and/or Half Life 5. (I'll keep predicting it every year until it happens so I can yell CALLED IT)

Metroid and Majora's Mask would be things to look forward to. And the obligatory ORAS hype.
Sceptile would be pretty boss in Smash 4, but seems unlikely given the amount of Pokemon already representing.

I'm curious to see if there'll be anything this year that will convince me to buy a PS4. We have Lords of the Fallen, which seems to be another Dark Souls, but that's just one game.

Also I'm curious to see how silly the next Assassin's Creed will be. Will we have Martin Luther King Jr. fight the evil templars who destroy the black's right to live?! Wait, no, we'll go over 9/11, and super assassin George Bush will destroy evil templar Osama Bin Laden!

Really hyped about games such as SO, Inside, and Or I. I would have to say it was a safe conference. It wasn't good, but not bad either. I want more details Microsoft, the XBone is still not cutting it for me.

Yeah, "Look, pretty graphics" means very little to me, and trailers spanning half a minute that show literally only said pretty graphics mean even less. Give me some actual words with your presentation, dammit.

Halo 2 with full multiplayer in its original form + dedicated servers + graphical upgrade? Oh my...


Sunset Overdrive looks fun, so does Ori and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Thing is, most of the games shown weren't exclusive - I want to say Halo 2 hyped me enough to want an Xbox One, but in reality nothing the showed at the show sold me. Oh well, at least they learned their lesson from last year and showed nothing but games. I'm impressed enough by that alone.

When the biggest talk of your show is a touched-up re-release of a ten-year old game, you're basically a no-show.

And I say that, but there are some games for which a touched-up re-release would indeed be major news in the video game world. A Final Fantasy VII re-release with modern graphics has been many a gamer's dream for years now. The dream of a Street Fighter II re-release with a 3-D engine and modern graphics was realized with Street Fighter IV. But the thing is, those games are clearly in need of a graphics overhaul that goes beyond minor touch ups in transition from 480/720p to 1080. Those games would become (or did become) very different experiences for their graphical updates and engine changes. But I don't see that happening with Halo 2. A Halo 2 re-release feels less like Street Fighter IV and more like the Shadow of the Colossus "HD" re-release on the PS3 several years ago.

I dunno. Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps many Halo fans would argue that a Halo 2 re-release with 2014 graphics on the XBox One is to them what a FF7 re-release with 2014 graphics on the PS4 would be to FF7 fans. But I just can't imagine that most Halo fans see it that way. Is the desire to play Halo 2 again really so strong? And are its graphics really so old now as to get in the way of fans' desire to play the game again?

This really irked me the most about their presentation to be honest.

Honestly, Talon, as a bit of a Halo fan myself, I really couldn't care less about the re-release of Halo 2, because in all honesty they'll probably balls it up in the same way that they did with the Anniversary Edition of Halo. Give me the ability to download it from Xbox Live in its original form and I'm happy.

Well the game is coming as part of "the Master Chief Collection", four games in one, plus the Halo 5 beta and a miniseries between Halo 4 and 5. On top of that, I imagine you'll be able to push a button and switch between Halo 2 and "Anniversary" graphics like in the previous Anniversary game.

Unfortunately, the game will probably lack all of the bugs and glitches that made Halo 2 super fun with friends, such as superbouncing. That, for me, would be a pretty big selling point, and for a few of my friends as well. I have to say though, I'm pretty pleased with Halo 2 coming back as its own multiplayer in the original form as we remember it. Halo 2 multiplayer was basically the pinnacle of matchmaking multiplayer in my opinion, and I'm glad they're doing that instead of just tacking on a few maps for Halo 4. Step in the right direction, they're realizing Halo 4's multiplayer really is inferior to the older games (I hope).

To me, this game really stood out, and it was only shown for five seconds! The game is entirely hand drawn in 1930's cartoon style. Wow!
