Haaaa.

I am reasonably sure that pitcher plants don't contain acid, merely digestive enzymes that break down trapped prey.

Alright then. In that case I guess James would be okay so long as he didn't leave it in there for too long. ;p

In the tradition of using this thread for its exact opposite purpose, here I have for you an adorable Tweet from Japan: someone found their handwritten Pokédex from when they were little. It's fun to see all of the adorable signs that this was written by a very young grade schooler. The enormous, somewhat awkward handwriting. The wanting to show off he's a big boy by writing Charmander's name as 火トカゲ rather than as ヒトカゲ.* The crappy drawings ^^; that you can tell were drawn with such dedication to detail. It's quite cute.

* The name is Japanese for "fire lizard," and he wrote the "fire" in kanji, presumably to both show his knowledge that the ヒ stands for 火 as well as to show that he knows how to write 火. The "lizard" portion is normally written in katakana even by adults, its official kanji being 蜥蜴. (Jim Breen is kind enough to share this tidbit with you, Dave: apparently 蜥蜴 specifically refers to skinks. Don't know that I've ever even heard the term "skink" before. )

I know I can't say this to the person directly because language barrier, but I would love to say this:

Professor Oak would be proud, young padawan.

Skinks are pretty awesome. They're an interesting example of a possible living transition - many have no legs and yet more have ridiculously tiny limbs for their size, hinting that the group is somewhere on the way to developing a parallel branch to the snakes, which of course diverged from other lizards about 70 million years ago.

Of course it's also possible that they'll remain with tiny limbs for millions of years to come, but it's still an interesting theory.

So this is completely and totally not what this thread is for but we don't have a "Heartwarming" thread yet.

Would have been more thread appropriate if the old guy told the listener, "Have I told you today that I love you?"

This made me laugh, in a "glad I'm not that pathetic" kinda way.

That was actually kind of sweet. I could easily see the same thing happening to me someday, where something hits me so hard emotionally that I do something stupid and weird like sit in a KFC for a full week.

She looks like she'll be fine, though. I think the funniest part was that nobody noticed that she never actually left the restaurant, though, like wtf how do you not notice that.

I will chalk this one up to teenage judgment. And thus I'll be a lot more forgiving of it. If she were 24, then we'd have a serious problem ...

... Why 24 specifically? Is that suddenly a threshold of maturity?

Entirely arbitrary. It was the spur-of-the-moment age that felt just right. "23 and below, I could see someone still having the brain of a teenager. 24 and above, you really shouldn't have the brain of a teenager by that age." Obviously there are some adults who never develop an adult-thinking brain. Let's not overthink things here. :p
