The Dragapult loomed over all present, up to and including the Masters family, who had arrived on the scene just moments ago on their boat, the Banette's Revenge. And the all-too-familiar whirring of helicopter blades told the gathered Trainers that the most renowned news reporting team at Channel 890 had also arrived on the scene. And yet, Diana Macks was not yet reporting. Rather, she was glancing back and forth between the Dragapult and her cameraman/boyfriend, for some careless person had chosen a truly inopportune time to call Marv. As irritated as Diana was, however, she couldn't be too mad, considering Marv was very clearly trying to cut the conversation short.
"No, but- well, yes, that's nice of you to say, but- look, I-" he was saying, with the other person seemingly interrupting each attempted sentence before the cameraman could get to the point. "Look, can we- I don't- if you'd just-" And now Marv himself was looking increasingly more irritated. "No, that'd be a good time, but- no, actually, I can't right now, I- but- hold- wh- no- no- FOR FUCK'S SAKE, I'M AT WORK RIGHT NOW!!" he exploded suddenly. "Sorry, sorry, just... I'll call you later, OK? Thank you. Goodbye." And he finally hung up. "Took long enough," quipped Diana. Marv chuckled as he grabbed his camera. "You're telling me!" he replied. "That was my cousin, the one I told you about, she works in Galar. She finally saw our coverage of the Primal Dialga incident-" "Just now?" frowned Diana Macks. "That was months ago!" Marv shrugged. "I told you, she gets super absorbed in her work," he said. "Anyways, she wants to come out and visit, congratulate me on the scoop of the century, and also for the two of us getting together," he added with a chuckle. "Apparently she saw this coming a mile away." "Did she, now?" Diana chuckled. "Well, enough about that for now- we've got our very first Hard Mode Raid to cover! How do I look?" "Stunning as always," Marv stated as he got ready with his camera. And a second later, he gave Diana the hand signal to speak up. "I am currently live on the scene at the Typhon's Depths Pokémon Gym, where a Dynamaxed Dragapult has appeared!" Diana stated, looking into the camera while gesturing behind her. Marv's camera was able to get a perfect shot of the Dragapult at this point. "An assortment of Pokémon Trainers have shown up to try and subdue Dragapult, but it won't be as simple as all that- experts are saying that this will be the first of what is referred to as a Hard Mode Raid Battle, that this Dragapult's cunning and intellect will make this battle unlike any we've seen before! Reporting live for Channel 890, I'm Diana Macks, and I will be bringing you every second of this Raid Battle as it develops." ~~~~~ "We should be careful," Willa murmured. "This Dragapult will not go down so easily." "Yeah, but you got this, right, Dad?" smiled Maribel. Keith smiled back and nodded. "We're as ready as we'll ever be, sweetie," he stated. "Scorpius, ready to go?" he called out. 'Draaaaaap!" Scorpius called back eagerly- he was up against this powerful-looking Dragon-type, and loving every second of it. Keith grinned. "Then bring it to 'em, Scorpius! Assurance, let's go!" OOC: Scorpius used Assurance (60 BP; doubled damage since the target was already attacked. Last edited by Missingno. "Peter Starling here once again, however this time we're hear to talk about a whole new beast. Welcome to the first ever Hard Mode raid, that's right, Hard Mode. Last time a Dragapult came up the raiders were lucky to get away with the win. Now its back with a vengeance and stronger than ever. I might be making this call a little early, but this raid boss may even be stronger than a Gigantamax! Our 8 raiders are busy preparing, so lets have a closer look at what they're up against.
Hard mode means Dragapult packs a few extra tricks. Better tactics means it'll decide moves once it decides its targets, while a powered up Shockwave means it can clear even the likes of DoT moves. Perhaps the biggest threat is HM Dragapult's trait, Synchronized Sortie, which allows its single target moves to hit two opponents! That means its going to be doing some real damage, real fast and our raiders are going to have to keep that in mind. In terms of movepool, its got quite a few powerful options. It's signature Dragon Darts, spread STAB in Breaking Swipe topped off with Draco Meteor and Dragon Rush round out its Dragon options. Ghost moves might see limited use with the majority of the raiders resisting or being immune to the type. Hex could be powerful if Dragapult decides to throw status around. Offtype is where Dragapult really threatens. Fire Blast, Thunder, Hydro Pump, Acrobatics and Solar Beam will pack a real punch despite lacking STAB and will give Dragapult some powerful Max Move options. Given what we've seen so far, its safe to assume that Dragapult will be sporting the Cursed Body ability, which could prove troublesome. Let's break down our raiding party now. Biggest thing in our raiders favour here is Assurance. With a lot of Dark types present, expect the powerful STAB move to be dealing some strong hits. Scrafty resists Dragapult's Ghost moves and can strike back with powerful STAB. The lack of Fairy moves is a real boon for the Dark/Fighting type. Bisharp will be looking to abuse its Defiant ability if given the chance, pumping up its power. Resisting both of Dragapult's STABs is fantastic, however it'll have to watch out for those Fire moves. Mawile likewise will look to avoid Fire moves, but being one of 2 Fairy types present is handy. Immune to one of Dragapult's STABs, expect this Fairy to stick around. Drapion will feel safe knowing Dragapult has no way of hitting its weakness, the Raid Boss lacking Ground coverage. It's Dark type moves are going to sting, especially with the addition of Black Glasses. Sableye also avoids its one weakness here, however it lacks resistances to either of Dragapult's STABs. Sableye may pack the strongest Assurance out of all our raiders however, thanks to its werewolf claws! Tyranitar thankfully isn't kicking up a Sandstorm. No Fighting moves saves it from having to worry about its main weakness, however it is still exposed defensively. Resists Ghost but has weaknesses to Grass and Water which Dragapult could really abuse. Impidimp is our second Fairy and this little bastard is well suited to this raid. Immune to one STAB and resisting another is a great start. Add in that both its STABs are super effective and you've got the makings of something great! Look for it to deal some damage early before keeping itself alive with some powered up Draining Kisses thanks to its phallic-like Big Root. Rounding out our raiding party is Eevee, one could be mistaken for thinking it the weak link. However, the Normal type offers some much needed assistance. Helping Hand should help power up some of the big hits, while it also benefits from being immune to Pult's Ghost STAB. Heal Bell could also prove to be an invaluable asset. No doubt this is probably going to be one of the most action packed raids yet. Prepare for an absolute blockbuster. See you all back here for the post-raid breakdown. Keith gritted his teeth as a strange aura came over Scorpius for a moment following his use of Assurance. "I was afraid of that," he sighed. "Dragapult must have Cursed Body!"
"Cursed Body?" repeated Maribel, taking out her Rotom Phone. "OK, Rotom- tell me about Cursed Body." "Dragapult's Ability- Cursed Body," said Rotom. "Dragapult can sometimes disable attacks used against it for a short time. Even if it doesn't make physical contact. What a stupid Ability, that makes no sense." Maribel frowned, but did not comment on it. And then, Rotom piped up again. "Dragapult, the Stealth Pokémon. A Dragon and Ghost-type, and the evolved form of Drakloak. When it's battling, it fires the Dreepy resting in its horns at supersonic speeds. Apparently they like it or something. Dreepy are into some weird stuff for being total wimps." "So it does evolve from Drakloak, I had a feeling," smiled Maribel, choosing to ignore her Rotom Phone's rudeness, which got her a noise from the phone that sounded somewhere between a raspberry and static. After everyone had launched their attacks, Dragapult did began to fight back, seemingly intent on lowering everyone's Attack, with a forceful Hydro Pump to wrap up the round. Nothing had fainted so far, a promising start, though it did not go unnoticed that the Hydro Pump hit two Pokémon at once... But Scorpius didn't get hit at all, and moreover, Keith's eyes widened as he saw the energy swirling around his Dynamax Band. "OoooooOOOOOOOOH!" he exclaimed. "Whoa, you can Dynamax Scorpius!" breathed Maribel. "And this seems like a good time to do so," Willa added, with a glance at the big shield Dragapult had erected before it. "A good Max Move is just what that shield needs." "Couldn't agree more, my love," Keith agreed, grinning widely. "Scorpius, what say you-" "DRAAAAAAAAP!" Scorpius was already calling as he ran towards Keith, slapping a claw to his own Poké Ball and withdrawing himself. The family chuckled- Scorpius's actions certainly spoke louder than words. "Heh heh... Alright. The strange energy that courses through us both," Keith began, holding out the Poké Ball containing his Drapion. "Let us embrace it," Willa stated, placing a hand on the ball. "Harness it!" Maribel chimed in, likewise putting her hand on the ball. "Use it to draw out our true power!" the family declared as one. And as they spoke, the ball they were all holding onto grew in size and changed in appearance, until it looked like a Premier Ball the size of an Electrode. "Alright, Scorpius!" Keith declared. "Ready..." "...let's DYNAMAX!!!" the three Masterses exclaimed as one, hurling the ball into the air behind them. Scorpius emerged from the ball, whereupon he started to grow... and grow... and GROW! "DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!" Scorpius thundered, towering over all present (raid boss obviously excluded), looking eager to fight with this newfound power. Following this, Keith, Willa, and Maribel whispered to themselves for a second, before facing Dragapult once more. "USE! MAX!! FLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE!!!" they bellowed in unison. OOC: Scorpius Dynamaxed and used Max Flare (130 BP; Base move is Flamethrower (90 BP)). Last edited by Missingno. Master; 04-08-2021 at 05:07 PM. Reason: Minor grammatical fix. |

"Ah!" Diana Macks exclaimed as the forceful Max Shockwave blew throughout the area. "At this moment, Dragapult has unleashed a shockwave unlike any I've experienced in my career!" she stated into her microphone. "Far more intense than the sort of shockwave you get from your average Dynamaxed, or even Gigantamaxed, wild Pokémon! Studies have shown that such a shockwave not only resets everything the normal variety does and then some, but the lingering effects ensure that such effects cannot be immediately reapplied! The gathered Trainers are going to have to rely on brute strength this time around..."
"Gah, that was forceful!" Keith grunted, he and his family having braced themselves against Dragapult's Max Shockwave. "Indeed," Willa concurred. "Moreso than usual, I would say," she added. "Yeah, I was reading up on these kinds of raids," Maribel spoke up. "Apparently the shockwaves the bosses can use not only clear out just about any kind of effect there can be in the battle, but also prevents those kinds of effects from being applied immediately after." "Hm, so it's gonna be all about brute strength," Keith murmured. Then, he grinned. "Well, then, we sure Dynamaxed the right Pokémon for that!" he declared. "Ain't that right, Scorpius?" "DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!" thundered Scorpius in response, the Dynamaxed Drapion grinning eagerly, ready for action. And the Masterses weren't gonna keep him waiting for much longer. It only took a few moments of conferring with each other before the family called out the command as one; "USE! MAX!! DARKNEEEEEEEEEEESS!!!" OOC: Scorpius used Max Darkness (130 BP; base move is Dark Pulse (80 BP); powered up by Black Glasses). Last edited by Missingno. Master; 04-11-2021 at 03:30 PM. Reason: Minor grammatical fix. |
