Latin & Greek
Hello UPN. As you guys probably know, I am currently taking intensive courses in Classical/Medieval Latin and Attic Greek. I also have some experience with Koine Greek from a previous course.
With that out of the way, considering the longevity of Talon's Japanese thread, and the knowledge that there are at least some people on the forum who have taken Latin before, or are polyglots (or close to it), I thought it might be useful to gauge the interest of the board regarding a Latin/Greek thread. Would anybody be interested in this? I was thinking that I could make posts gradually explaining beginning Latin (declensions, conjugations, etc), while also attempting to answer more advanced questions and do review for people who have taken a year or more of Latin. |

My Latin is ridiculously rusty and I'd totally love to see some stuff on Latin.
Maybe I should do a thread for Spanish...? |

You're a good man, Jeri. Maybe we can get Morg to do some Italian? Language subforum gogogo
Also, I just realized that there might be a problem with the Greek alphabet on UPN. Does anyone know if UPN supports standard unicode fonts? At least that's what I think they're called. |

I'm taking Latin.
...Not that I've gotten past toddler-level competence.

I like that idea. I remember I used to think the Japanese Word of the Day was spammy until I found out that people were enjoying it and they just weren't publicly letting us know. So maybe there could be appreciation for Latin and its relatives!
Perhaps Amras could start us out with some daily (or more feasibly, weekly) words/phrases/grammatical stuff in Latin, and then Jeri and I could follow with the Spanish and Italian equivalents! You get 3 for the price of 1! Also it shows us how the language has been mutated and corrupted over the years, and could provide some amusement when the words are almost totally identical across all 3 languages.

I would totally love to do derivatives; Latin helped me improve my Spanish tenfold so I think it would be a great way to do a little Romance Language teaching.

I'm about to go to college majoring International Communication and I would kill for a language subforum. Not that it's likely to happen.
I'm hella rusty in pretty much all of my languages, though, which is a shame given I was studying German, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian, and Japanese. And by hella rusty I mean it's been two years and I've forgotten most everything. |

Taking my third year of Latin at the moment, though I'm not so good at learning any sort of language. :3

Just a quick note: I have not forgotten about this thread. FF7 and exams have gotten in the way. Will do a post soon. I'm guessing no one but me is interested in Greek ;; but I will certainly do a Latin basic grammar + vocab post.

If you do Spanish, I'd like to participate, since I need to practice on this and I really want to without trying. And doing it online seems like a good exercise.
