I'd consider a revamp of the SC but a change in speed (i.e. movement speed) isn't going to happen. The lack of mobility is the only way to balance the significant boost in power.

He's a pure Fighting type, that's hardly news. You don't pick up a Conkledurr for ranged battles, If you do, you probably want to drop it.

I know I dont. But Im asking because theres a big time gap between when he starts moving towards his opponent, and getting there to do what he does best. With his movement severely nerfed, theres really no way to narrow it down at all, unless you count Mach Punch. I guess full mobility might be a bit OP, but I think a "significant drop in speed" is a little much.

We're in the process of finalizing SCs so we'll go over it when we get to Conkledurr. It's hard to find a good balance.

Shadow Claw has been shown to have a variation that allows it to be used ranged, stretching the shadow, in a similar way to what we do with Shadow Sneak.

Spoiler: show

2) Provide links to the Bulbapedia article for the move, pokémon etc. in question

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wi...dow_Claw_(move)

3) Explain the in game effect of the move in question

Basic Ghost critical hit move, more or less Ghost Slash.

4) Briefly note the differences between what we do and what the animé does

We have it merely as a Ghost claw move, without the ability to stretch it as a ranged move. The anime has it much more fitting to the name, having a shadow actually stretch to hit the foe. It's been shown in ranged capacity more than a single time in the anime, as well.

As well, we have a ranged variation for X-Scissor, and Ghost moves are still pretty limited in variety.

Trevenant

So since we are weird and allow Fighting moves to hit Ghosts then a least we should make Trevenant and Pumpkaboo(Evo and Pre-evo at your discretion) be able to shift to ethereal as shown where stupid Hawulcha passes through the both of them with High Jump Kick/Flying Press respectively.

Combusken uses Fire Spin, which Roselia counters with Petal Dance. Instead of burning up, the petals manage to maintain their momentum and disperse the flames, breaking through to strike Combusken. Youtube Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXVAGGxXg&t=13m15s [13:15 - 13:21]

When Roselia uses Petal Dance, Beautifly launches a Silver Wind. For a moment, the wind stops the petals, but the petals continue bursting through, overwhelming the wind. Youtube Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXVAGGxXg&t=14m49s [14:49 - 15:02]

To use a more recent example from B/W:

Tepig is ordered to use Flamethrower, a strong Fire attack, and Maractus is used to counter it with Petal Dance. Instead of burning up, Petal Dance manages to break through partially, although not to the same extent as the weaker Silver Wind and Fire Spin. Youtube Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDpjHscuXds&t=10m35s [10:35 - 10:46]

Petal Dance / Petal Blizzard

3) Explain the in game effect of the move in question

"XY - The user stirs up a violent petal blizzard and attacks everything around".

Petal Blizzard does damage to all adjacent Pokémon, including allies. In Horde Encounters, it will target all opponents. Petal Blizzard will also destroy grass patches found in the background of battles.

4) Briefly note the differences between what we do and what the animé does

Right now, Grass Pokemon still need a little help, and I've seen people ref Wind moves dispelling/Fire moves burning up the Petal moves because they think that the petals are literally petals. The two Petal moves at the moment are primarily used by Pokemon such as Lilligant and are labelled as a "high-powered Razor Leaf", liable to be stopped by a well-timed wind or fire attack. Multiple episodes of the anime suggest that Petal Dance is a powerful attack which dispels Fire and Wind moves, breaking through the attacks and still retaining their power. If anything, the Anime portrays the Petal Moves are being similar to how ASB treats Steel Melee moves. Furthermore, the Games suggest that Petal Blizzard is a strong move that can devastate the local arena.

We should not allow the Petal moves to be so easily thwarted by Fire and Wind, when the Anime has portrayed Petal moves as breaking through other moves while retaining its power. When we factor in the factor that Grass Pokemon like Cherrim and Lilligant are the main users of this move, we could look into boosting the Petal moves by giving them a Steel move-like or Swords Dance-esque ability to break through weaker fire/wind moves. It would help Grass Pokemon a lot and bring us closer to the Anime.

---

On a separate but related note, Vileplume really shouldn't be given a SC nerf that limits her motion. And on the topic of Vileplume and Petal Dance, the anime had two separate instances where Vileplume's use of Petal Dance confused the target:

Vileplume (not weighed down by her head) fires a Petal Dance, which strikes and confuses Munchlax. May even says that Petal Dance confused Munchlax, and Max later says something about Petal Dance being a specialty of the Vileplume line. Youtube Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb9CL4F1KVo&t=4m35s [4:35 - 4:41]

Using this evidence, maybe we could grant Grass-types using Petal Dance the ability to confuse. Or at least just the Lilligant and Oddish lines, since they're the ones who really are affiliated with petals. And maybe we could consider removing the movement nerf off Vileplume? Obviously, this "Petal Dance confuses/Vileplume isn't heavy" proposal is separate from the Petal Moves proposal above. I just didn't know where to put it except as a footnote to the original proposal about granting Petal Moves the power to be robust and overcome weaker Fire/Wind moves.

So, watching Indigo League

[1:34:42 AM] Princess Big Mac: > Scyther uses Quick Attack
> works like ranged Slash
[1:34:49 AM] Princess Big Mac: can we have that in ASB?

Bulbapedia says:

"When Jeanette commands her Scyther to use Slash, the next command was a dubbing error. In the dub, Scyther uses Quick Attack. In the original Japanese version, it was Swift."

At about 7:56 in here is the part in question.

Now, the change seems minor, but allowing Swift to be a potential ranged slashing move (see: Air Cutter or X-Scissor) definitely adds something, and all you'd have to add is a short clause saying that if you have claws/scythes.etc, you can slash them to create waves instead of stars. Maybe something about wider potential spread, but more prone to partials than full-on hits unless the Pokemon is of a fair size.

The world needs more partials anyway
