I'm well aware of that. What does that change about anything I just said?

One possibility to avoid this is make Struggle hit through Protect/Detect, but that would only solve this one issue. I'm pretty sure that Funbro can keep their foe alive infinitely, even with Struggle, due to Heal Pulse.

It's also ruined by switching out when they switch in Sableye, a much more effective counter than just happening to have a ghost type out.

That's much less of an answer to why Game Freak needn't address the issue than to why Pokémon Showdown needn't. Showdown theoretically only need worry about what breaks play at the top of the ladder amongst competent, experienced players. Game Freak, on the other hand, is responsible for the gameplay experiences of all its customers. The unintelligent and the inexperienced should not be forced into games of Chicken where they must either forfeit the win or else their time. This is different from stall where, while slow and painful, a win is being reached. This is an infinite loop that flat out won't end until the game's 30-to-60-minute timer runs out.

... Not that you disagreed with any of this. Throwing that acknowledgement out there. I just wanted to reply to your post in the context of what I said previously. I don't feel like, "It can be countered by switching out the moment you see the Entrainment Durant die and replaced by a Sableye" should be an answer out of Game Freak as to why they've left an infinite loop in their game for trolls to exploit.

Oh it's totally beatable; it's not a win condition automatically, you just have to predict it. It's the same as letting most other things set up on you. It's also beatable by Whirlwinders and Knock Offers, so it's probably not going to be fucking with the meta too much.

What the RNG giveth, the RNG taketh away. What the RNG taketh away, the RNG restoreth.

As seen in this battle (Random Battle, 15 turns), I'm gifted:
  • an opportune lead
    • no Sleep Powder on his Roserade
    • ample opportunities to Quiver Dance and Roost
    • no critical hits from his Emolga's Air Slashes
  • a Choice Banded, blistering fast Ice-type ... when five out of his six creatures are weak to Ice
    • presumably; we never get to see the last one
    • and his Emolga was already dead before Weavile arrived, if you don't want to count her (she's still Ice-weak though)
And as for what was not seen ...
  • Blaziken @ Blazikenite waiting in the wings ^^;
  • Xerneas waiting in the wings too ^^;;
I mean, damn. Thank you very much, RNG goddesses, for favoring me over my opponent. But damn. Talk about overkill. ^^;

One of the haxiest matches ever. (VGC 2014, 21 turns)

This isn't my battle: it's one between Alex Ogloza (US national champion) and a stranger on PS named Aqu4m4n. It is also pretty insane how many misses and flinches there were in total. The battle serves as a reminder that Pokémon is fundamentally and deliberately different from games like Go and chess.

Wherein I battle half blind. (Random Battle, 23 turns)

Spoiler: show
This battle took place several yards away from the computer screen, from the comfort of my bed in a freezing-cold apartment. Which meant that I was using Windows' magnifying glass application to make the far-away screen contents legible. But because of how it works and how you have to hover over creatures in PS to preview their moves, it meant that I could only ever see the bottom two moves of my creatures. I couldn't see their top two moves nor could I see their hold items nor could I see their stats nor could I see their abilities. At least, not until they were sent out. Once they were sent out, I could see all of their moves and their hold items, though I can't recall if I could see their abilities and stats or not.

So yeah. Whenever I'd decide to leave someone in or to switch someone out for someone else, I had to base those decisions on the limited information available to me. Which resulted in me not switching out nearly as often as I normally would have.

Wherein Mew. (OU, 48 Rounds)
Spoiler: show
This match was only as close as it was because of my not knowing Speed tiers as well as I should, and a little bit of hax on both sides. Like, it could have easily gone in my opponent's favor at the end with a miss, or a flinch, or whatever. Luckily the outcome was as it was, and I took home the victory, 1-0 (Or at least 1-1 forfeit) Also, Mew is a phenomenal Pokémon in OU. It breaks stall and dismantles physical attackers so well. Definitely glad I have it in my team.

Meloetta is fun (ORAS OU, 14 turns)

Everybody forgets about the fact that Meloetta is part Normal and with Gengar around it's so easily exploitable, as seen here.

My opponent is Miror B's Ludicolo. HILARITY ENSUES. (ORAS OU, 15 turns)

Yache sets up a glorious victory. (ORAS OU, 9 turns)

Spoiler: show
Life Orb on that Greninja is basically the entire reason I pulled this off, as one DD can't put him up to outrun the ninja frog. Relic Song putting it down low enough and poison killing Meloetta at the right time...The stars aligned on this one. Truly.

Alomomomomomomomola is MVP.

I hate entry hazards so much.

Someone tell me what I did right because honestly I'm not sure how I did so well on this one.

My opponent gets wrecked by a Kyurem, but then gets too greedy ^^;

Spoiler: show
My other pokemon were Rhyperior, Wormadam Trash, and a Kingdra! Not sure about the movesets but nothing that could handle a Crawdaunt most likely :u

Felt bad for him the entire time up until Turn 32. The first DD was strictly necessary. The second one I can forgive but it's debatably greedy. The third one, though, there just isn't any debate: far too greedy to ask for you to be paralyzed yet again. Crawdaunt's defense is so poor that even Outrage might have KOed or come close to it. *in before damage calcs* Oh well. It was a haxy match for him regardless. I echoed his sentiments on Turn 10 -- aloud and before seeing his text.

Spoiler: show
No. Not just the end. Too tired to walk you through it if you don't see it, sorry. :\ This battle was the chess equivalent of each player taking a piece of the other player's ten turns in a row. Decisive sacrifices and/or risks many turns before the final turn.

Man, the number of times your opponent used Protect annoyed me so much xd; But it's nice to see that's what made them fall in the end \o/

The following is idk how old, but it was sometime during Gen 5. Not my battle. I think it's hilarious and shows that even when you're really high on the ladder sometimes it doesn't take a lot of skill to win.

The odds of that happening were low. (Duh. But it has to be said.) Also the loser had been banking on scaring out the Jirachi with Hippowdon, a Flying-type or Levitator arriving to take his place. When that didn't happen, it set the loser back by a huge amount. Had he done the "wrong move" there and Earthquaked immediately, he still would have likely lost this match in the end because of too much attrition but at least he wouldn't have been taken from 6 to 1 (and nearly 0; or indeed 0, depending on how you want to call it) by a single Jirachi.

I'm honestly surprised he didn't use Slack Off when Jirachi had beaten him that low. Like that was his one-misplay...likely because it was his only play but still.
