Fizzy Power Co. Raid Battle 8: VS Monferno

Dynamax Boss Monferno
★★★

Health Gauge: 100%
Shields Up: 0
Status: N/A

Raid Challengers:
  • Median Dia, Starmie: 400 HP
  • Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 300 HP
  • ChrisClark13, Buizel: 300 HP
  • Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: 500 HP
  • Sneaze, Pidove: 300 HP

A small group of trainers arrives to find Monferno climbing the reactor, the monkey jumping down to challenge the group and their Pokemon as soon as it notices them. Stomping around wildly, it's clear the boss is ready to go, but with the raiders a bit short staffed things will clearly be tough as Dynamax energy begins to surge, signaling that this can wait no longer.

Dynamax Initiative: ChrisClark13, Buizel.
  • Trainers may only list 1 order per round. They are also permitted to using 1 item in lieu of an attack.
  • Dynamax Initiative will select a trainer at random. If a trainer has initiative, they may choose to Dynamax their Pokemon for a duration of 3 turns. Dynamaxed Pokemon may only select a Max Attack of a corresponding type from their registered moveset, or Max Guard in place of status moves.
  • When issuing an attack, please state the attack's unbuffed Base Power (BP).
  • If a hold item or ability’s effect is activated in the present round as a result of the previous round’s damage calculation or the present round’s orders, please state it clearly in your response.
  • Roleplaying your orders is optional, but $250 may be collected for responses of 250 words or greater, and Bond will accumulate only for the trainer’s active Pokemon in battle.
  • You have until Thursday, 10th of December to place your order.

It had been several weeks, if not months since Wolfe had last stepped into any raid to take on the Dynamaxed creatures that had appeared.
To him and Drake, the Dynamax phenomenon quite simply didn't exist in their homeworld so this was a new ( albeit not so new as when they first learned about it ) experience for them.

Today's Raid was up against a Monferno, which was odd and an unusual pokemon to have wandered up into the Dynamax den considering this was a power plant and monferno have been documented to live in... different areas from here unless this world had different habitats from their homeworld. However, that was highly unlikely as so far with the exclusion of the Dynamax phenomenon Fizztopia matched up almost identically with Home. That mattered naught though Because Wolfe and Drake were here to help take down the Monferno.

Wolfe was a great selection to pick for this raid among Drakes's arsenal of partners since he had the ability to change his typing, this helped so that way other partners could use supereffective attacks as well as set up things such as Rain to inhibit the Monferno greatly. As Wolfe ran into the battlefield his Striped pattern shifted and moved all across his body and crackled with energy... This time Camouflage changed him into the Electric-type, meaning any of his electric-based attacks would have an increase in power, and thanks to his ability Flash Fire, he could take in Fire Type attacks from the Monkey and increase his own firepower should the monkey lash at him.

Using the Move Camouflage ( 0 BP ) to change into an Electric type

The time had come for Zak to embark upon his next raid battle. This time, he had chosen to partner up with his Frillish, Blu, given that the threat was one of a rather fiery nature. The man had yet to visit the Fizzy Power Co. either but the prospect of facing off against a Dynamaxed Pokémon there seemed like a great excuse to make a point of taking a trip to check the place out.

Arriving at the site on Pidgeot-back, it wasn’t long before the man spotted the danger he had elected to help vanquish there: a massive Monferno was clambering about on the factory’s main reactor, giving off a rather remarkable likeness to King Kong himself. Upon sight of the man and his fellow trainers gathering nearby, the monkey launched itself down from the tower without a second thought to land directly in front of the party. Whether they liked it or not, the battle was about to begin.

Deciding not to waste any time, Zak grabbed for the Friend Ball attached to his belt that he had recently transferred Blu into and quickly released the jellyfish into the air before him. Knowing his mission for the day, the Frillish nodded confidently to his trainer before spinning on the spot to face off against the Dynamaxed Monferno. With his Pokémon released and ready to start the battle, the man deliberated between Blu’s moveset before settling on one of his attacks with a little extra bite if things worked out in their favour.

“Right Blu, I want you to start things off with a Water Pulse (60BP + Mystic Water) to try and befuddle that monkey!”

Dynamax Boss Monferno
★★★

Health Gauge: 85%
Shields Up: 0
Status: Atk +2
Weather: Rain (4 Rounds)

Raid Boss Attack Summary:

Attack 1: Fake Out (40 BP)
Median Dia, Starmie: 360 HP
Attack 2: Swords Dance (0 BP)
Monferno's Attack sharply rose!
Attack 3: Max Phantasm (120 BP)
Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 84 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Median Dia, Starmie: 360 HP [Def -1]
  • Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 84 HP [Def -1]
  • ChrisClark13, Buizel: 300 HP [Def -1]
  • Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: 500 HP [Camouflage: Electric]
  • Sneaze, Pidove: 300 HP

Buizel seizes the initiative, literally, and Dynamaxes immediately. Monferno isn't exactly about to deal with the sheer amount of typespam lying down, though, and a Fake Out stops Starmie in its tracks, causing it to flinch. Arcanine then uses the Power Plant's natural energies to Camouflage, becoming Electric type, while a Max Geyser comes out, dealing some nice damage and setting up rain. This is followed up on by a Water Pulse, then a light Gust for a bit of damage. Monferno proceeds to massively boost itself with a Swords Dance and unleashes a Max Phantasm, bringing Frillish low while also lowering the defenses of most of the raid, though Pidove's Big Pecks prevent the stat drop.

  • You have until Tuesday, 15th of December to place your order.

Before the Dynamaxed Monferno can begin the bout, one of Zak’s fellow raiders was quick to take the initiative and have their team mate join the monkey in instantly colossal proportions. The monster in question was a Buizel and in a mere few seconds there was two towering mammals in the vicinity of the Fizzy Power Co. grounds.

Despite having an opponent that matched its size, the Monferno focused its attentions of one of its Water-type enemies, causing the Starmie it had targeted to flinch and miss out on the opportunity to join in on attacking the monkey. The second Dynamaxed Pokémon on the other hand focused its attention directly on its giant kin, delivering a hearty Max Geyser which brought the rains with it.

Feeling the benefit of the weather, Blu jumped in to the fray to take his turn and unleash a Water Pulse on his target. Though this attack landed on its intended mark, the pulse did not create any confusion and the Monferno was already gearing up for its next move. Before the raiding party, the giant monkey began to spin and wave its arms around in a Swords Dance before focusing its attention directly on the Frillish. In a moment, a wave of spectral overtook the jellyfish and he was wracked by the sheer power of the Max Phantasm attack.

After just one round, the Frillish was already flagging having taken a direct hit from the one of the Monferno’s strongest attacks. This sort of hit would have been enough to shake any Pokémon to their core but it was even harder for the jellyfish to take given his weakness to the attack’s type. Rather than go for another assault on the giant fire monkey, Zak decided on a more defensive strategy.

“I think you’d be best to try and regenerate some if you can, Blu - a Recover (0BP) should do it!”

With a more defensive strategy in place, Blu the Frillish adorned himself in a pale pearlescent glow and replenished a decent chunk of hitpoints whilst the other raiders continued to chip away at those of the Dynamaxed Monferno. Such a heavy assault triggered the monkey to erect a series of defensive shields around it, two of which were destroyed instantly by the continued attacks from the raiders.

Once the Monferno was satisfied that the Pokémon before it were not going to tarnish its defences any further, it geared up for its own set of attacks by starting to focus all of its energies. With this tightened focus, the fire monkey swung one of its long limbs at the camouflaged Arcanine to deliver a powerful Max Knuckle. That wasn’t it, though, as the Dynamaxed Pokémon turned its attention to Starmie and scraped at it with a Shadow Claw for a critical hit to the bejewelled starfish’s lifeforce.

With just two shields remaining, Zak thought it would be a good idea to make use of the opportunity and have Blu destroy one of them to make way for the stronger members of the party to attack the Monferno directly. The rain was still lashing the surroundings of the Fizzy Power Co. so the man made sure to call out his order to the spectral jellyfish as clearly as he could over the downpour.

“Right Blu, now you’re in better shape, it’s time to take down one of that Monferno’s shields with a Water Pulse (60BP + MysticWater) attack!”

Dynamax Boss Monferno
★★★

Health Gauge: 57%
Shields Up: 0
Status: Atk +5, Def -1, SpDef -1, Focus Energy
Weather: Rain (2 Rounds)

Raid Boss Attack Summary:

Attack 1: Power-Up Punch (40 BP)
Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: 244 HP
Attack 2: Max Knuckle (90 BP)
Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: 0 HP
Attack 3: Focus Punch (150 BP)
ChrisClark13, Buizel: 0 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Median Dia, Starmie: 39 HP [Def -1]
  • Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 234 HP [Def -1]
  • ChrisClark13, Buizel: 0 HP [Must sit out 1 round to recover]
  • Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: 0 HP [Must sit out 1 round to recover]
  • Sneaze, Pidove: 300 HP

The raiders break down shields before further deluging the boss with Water attacks, aside from one, Arcanine, who sits around waiting for orders. This leaves the dog a sitting duck as the boss boosts up off of him with a Power-Up Punch followed by a critical hit Max Knuckle, knocking out the dog. Now boosted, a Focus Punch connects with Buizel, dealing another critical hit, knocking out the Water type in a single, extremely powerful blow. The boss laughs at the trainers, mocking them as the round ends.

Dynamax Initiative: Expired.

As the next round of attacks began, the raiding Pokémon who had been given commands set about destroying the Dynamaxed Monferno’s defences before making a start on its hitpoints once again. Not showing off any of its legendary ferocity, the monkey sees the Arcanine standing before it as a sitting duck and focuses its attention on the canine, souping itself up initially with a Power-Up Punch before delivering another of its Max Knuckle moves to bring the dog to its knees.

Things looked set to get worse for the raiding party, though, as no sooner had the Monferno knocked out the Arcanine did it turn its attention to bringing down another member of the party temporarily. This time it was the Buizel who had recently Dynamaxed that felt the monkey’s wrath as an enhanced Focus Punch left the once massive mustelid collapsing in a heap.

With the round over, the Monferno was unguarded but didn’t seem all too perturbed by this, taking to laughing at and mocking the raid party before it. This pissed Zak off; the man had never been a great fan of gloating and he was sure that Blu the Frillish would be feeling similarly as he awaited his next command. The man wasn’t wrong either, turning his attention to the floating blue jellyfish to see him making some rather crude signals to Monferno with his tentacles. He wondered where the youngster had picked up that sort of thing but couldn’t do anything but laugh as he called his next orders across the pouring rain.

“Ignore that fool and hit it where it hurts, Blu - this time with a Bubble Beam (65BP + MysticWater) attack!”

The party's certainly starting to look a bit rough, huh? Perhaps then it's a good thing that Fake Out hit who it did, since that means that our first attempted move never actually got used! Surely this Hydro Pump (110 BP; Rain-Boosted) won't be so quickly confiscated!

Dynamax Boss Monferno
★★★

Health Gauge: 42%
Shields Up: 3
Status: Atk +5, Def -1, SpDef -1, Focus Energy
Weather: Rain (1 Round)

Raider Healing Summary:

Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: Cheer
Median Dia, Starmie: 239 HP
ChrisClark13, Buizel: Cheer
Median Dia, Starmie: 400 HP
Raid Boss Attack Summary:
Attack 1: Max Knuckle (90 BP)
Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 234 HP
Attack 2: Thunder Punch (75 BP)
Sneaze, Pidove: 0 HP
Attack 3: Shadow Claw (70 BP)
Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 0 HP
Raid Challengers:
  • Median Dia, Starmie: 400 HP [Def -1]
  • Pearl's Perap, Frillish: 0 HP [Must sit out 1 round to recover]
  • ChrisClark13, Buizel: 300 HP [Fully recovered]
  • Prof.Enigma, Arcanine: 500 HP [Fully recovered]
  • Sneaze, Pidove: 0 HP [Must sit out 1 round to recover]

The raiders push the boss lower still with further Water attacks after Starmie earns some healing cheers from the fallen raiders, the deluge forcing up the second set of shields. One of such shields is immediately broken before Monferno begins to retaliate, a Max Knuckle coming out immediately, though it phases harmlessly through the Ghost type Frillish. Aiming for a guaranteed super effective blow after its failed attack, a Thunder Punch strikes, with another lucky crit, knocking out Pidove in a single blow, before another guaranteed crit Shadow Claw strikes down on Frillish, bringing down the water type as well.

Dynamax Initiative: Expired.
